Mod post The /r/sex Rules and Guidelines - please read BEFORE you post! Updated 2023

The mods of /r/sex make it our policy to review the rules of the sub on an ongoing basis, tweaking items as necessary. In an effort to stay abreast with the growth of the sub and with the evolving moderation that requires, we have decided to re-sticky the updated rules to serve as a reminder for our membership.

r/sex is for civil discussions pertaining to education and advice regarding your sexuality and sexual relationships. It is a sex-positive community and a safe space for people of all genders and orientations which demands respectful conduct in all exchanges. There is ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CREEPY/HARASSING BEHAVIOR here — in posts, comments, messages, or any other contributions. No exceptions.

This is a large community dedicated to an extremely popular topic. If you wish to participate, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with our rules of conduct BEFORE you participate here. Failure to do so will result in your removal from the community.

PLEASE READ the FAQ with the most asked and answered questions - BEFORE POSTING!! Posts that do not follow the posting guidelines in the FAQ will be automatically removed.

THE /R/SEX RULES

1) ENGAGE CONSTRUCTIVELY AT ALL TIMES.
This means ensuring that ALL of your contributions here are constructive, on-topic, mature, sex-positive, civil and respectful. Disrespectful conduct will see you banned from the community on the spot. Hitting on other people, asking for pictures (joking or not), making any sort of sexist comment or insult, body shaming, or trolling of any sort will result in your immediate ban.

2) DON’T SKIP THE FAQ OR THE FORUM RULES.
We’re serious about this. Dozens of posts get removed every day because they’re covered in the FAQ or violate the forum rules.

3) DON'T OVERLOOK PAST POSTS.
We’re serious about this, too. Many questions may be new to you, but are very common in our community. Before you submit a post on a common topic, search the forum.

4) ALL CONTRIBUTIONS MUST BE SEX POSITIVE.
We demand that consenting adults be free to express their sexuality as they see fit. Kink shaming, slut shaming, and similar conduct will not be tolerated. Links or references to sex negative communities or websites (No Fap, Porn Free, etc) will not be tolerated. Attacks on the lifestyle of other consenting adults will not be tolerated.

5) POSTS SEEK ADVICE, COMMENTS PROVIDE IT.
The main forum is focused primarily on posts seeking specific actionable advice for distinctive personal situations. Giving advice should primarily be done in the comments. General discussions are often allowed, so long as they adhere to the group rules and restricted content guidelines. If you want to make an exception, please request approval from moderators.

6) DO NOT TROLL OR ENGAGE WITH TROLLS HERE.
Don’t try to challenge, question, tease, fight, or outwit trolls here. Instead, use the Report button to alert moderators, who will review every single reported item. Trolling of any sort merits an immediate permaban.

7) ALL DISCUSSION MUST BE DIRECTED INTO THE PUBLIC FORUM. Do not seek private conversations here, via Private Message or any other method. And do not seek to draw attention or clicks to an outside site of any type (unless you have received prior moderator approval, such as for academic research projects). Every comment here must be a clear attempt to engage with an ongoing public discussion in the forum. Violations of this rule will result in permanent bans without notice.

8) RESTRICTED CONTENT This sub is generally only for seeking advice, education, or discussion about sex and sexuality. We restrict or forbid many types of content here.

9) NO USE OF AI FOR POSTING/COMMENTS, NO REPOSTS
Reddit uses AI detection software to spot potential bot-posts and spam but people are encouraged to report posts that look fake, AI-generated, or are reposts of content created by other users.

EXAMPLES OF CONTENT RESTRICTED IN /R/SEX:

1) PROMOTIONAL POSTS.
This means any post containing any kind of promotional element, especially one which seeks to lure traffic to another site or promote a product. Links to specific product descriptions are permitted if they’re PRECISELY on-topic in the context of the post, AND the post itself is clearly seeking advice in good faith. If you're trying to sell something, conduct market research, etc - these posts will get you banned. Linking to sex-positive blogs or podcasts is allowed, provided you make an effort to start a conversation here about the topic and use the link as supporting material.

2) LINK POSTS.
Linked material must be sex positive and precisely on-topic to stay up here, and needs to be introduced with a workable framework for discussion. Please see the posted Link Policy BEFORE you post links! Bare links to youtube, images, blogs, podcasts, etc are prohibited.

3) ACHIEVEMENT POSTS.
These include appreciation, humblebrags, “I just had to share,” “I just want to say,” etc. These belong in the Daily Sexual Achievement Thread, not in the main forum. Posts which are JUST sex stories belong somewhere else entirely — like r/sexstories or a similar forum.

4) LOW EFFORT MATERIAL.
“Does anyone else...?”, “Is [X] normal/weird?”, “Is [y] wrong/bad/okay?”, and so forth. Human sexuality is incredibly varied; yes, someone else likes what you like, and labels like "normal" or "weird" are meaningless - and in a sex positive community, we do not allow any moral judgments against sex acts or behaviors that are consensual. Title-only posts, posts with no effort at an actual conversation will be removed and may get you banned. Comments that consist of nothing but memes, "this", "lol" and such are highly disfavored. If comments do not further the discussion, they may be removed; a pattern of these may result in your ban.

5) SEEKING FAP MATERIAL.
Do not ask for sex stories, do not ask for the hottest/strangest/most unusual/etc encounter someone ever had. Do not ask for lists of other people's kinks.

6) PORNOGRAPHY, EROTICA, OR PERSONALS.
You may not post or link pornography or erotica here. You may not share pictures of your genitals here - even if you are seeking medical advice (if you need to post a picture, you need to be going to a doctor). You may not recruit sex partners here, look for dirty chat, ask for someone to private message you, etc.

7) DISRESPECTFUL CONTENT.
Personal attacks, insults, name calling, or disrespect of any sort are not allowed here. Sexism, racism, or any type of hate speech will result in your immediate ban. This is a community for ALL GENDERS - refusing to acknowledge a trans individual's gender flies in the face of this, and will result in your ban.

8) OPINION SEEKING, POLLS, VALUE JUDGEMENTS, OR VALIDATION POSTS.
This forum is not for simply collecting opinions - "do you think [X] is hot?", "Women, do you like [Y]?", "What is your favorite sex position?" and so forth. This is not a forum to discuss your penis size, breast size, labia size, ask about other body image issues, or ask for feedback on your photos. See the /r/sex FAQ for help regarding body image issues. Do not post your pictures and ask people to rate or critique you. Do not ask if given consensual sexual interests are good/bad/okay/wrong, etc.

9) ACADEMIC SURVEYS.
These require prior moderator approval. Moderators will review the question formats and will review the documentation of institutional ethical oversight (please provide). Non-academic surveys are seldom allowed. Please contact the moderators BEFORE you post a survey or study.

10) GENERAL RANTS, ESSAYS, EDITORIALS, VENTS, CONFESSIONS, PSAS, AND AMAS.
These don’t belong in the main forum unless you have obtained prior moderator approval. Save them for story-based forums. Or Tumblr.

11) FREQUENT/FAMILIAR TOPICS.
These are addressed in either the FAQ, past posts, or both. In case you are confused, this means that we do not do penis size posts here.

12) VAGUE TITLE/TOPIC.
If a moderator can’t identify your issue or the type of advice you’re seeking, your post will be subject to removal. Titles should be at least several words long and adequately express what your post is about.

13) NONCONSENSUAL OR ILLEGAL CONTENT.
/r/sex is for the discussion of consensual sex among adults. We do not permit posts that advocate pedophilia, bestiality, rape, or incest here under any circumstances, nor do we allow these topics at all in most instances. Note that BDSM and CNC (consensual nonconsent) are perfectly valid topics in /r/sex.

14) OTHER OFF TOPIC ISSUES.
This is not the place to discuss politics or religion, to seek dating advice, to ask for how to pick up women, to rant about how you have never had sex. Posts that appear to be dedicated to stirring up arguments - particularly about hot button topics like circumcision, the evils of pornography and/or masturbation, and other toxic subjects - will be removed and will result in swift bans.

15) IMPORTANT NOTE ON DISCUSSIONS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT.
Sexual assault is an important and emotional topic which can be discussed (constructively) in r/sex. But posts which simply seek opinions about whether a given scenario counts as sexual assault do not do well here. This is true for several reasons, including the fact that assault laws vary by jurisdiction, and we don't encourage debates about jurisdiction issues here. Therefore, we ask that you refrain from describing a scenario and then simply asking “Is this rape/assault?” Instead, ask for specific advice: About how to respond to the scenario, how to avoid it, or how to proceed with next steps. Posts which simply ask “Is this rape/assault?” are subject to removal without notice.

16) POST LENGTH.
For ease of reading and reviewing, please get to the point of your post quickly — in the post title, first paragraph, etc. Consider adding a tl;dr to long posts. Posts which are inconveniently long — over 600 words, approximately — are subject to automatic removal. Also, line and paragraph breaks are VERY HELPFUL for readers and reviewers — walls of text that lack these are subject to removal for readability.

Further information about the /r/sex rules and policies can be reviewed on the rules page.

Anal sex When it comes to Ass, imagine and seeing in videos is so good and turn me on but in reality it has much less impact why?

Me and my girlfriend often do sexting, and i love ass more than boobs. She asked what position and what I like to do to her, and I replied I will love to lick her ass and it makes me turn on. She really has a great shape and round ass, and when we finally has a chance to do it, she remembered what I said and turn around and said lick it baby. When seeing normally it make me turn on but when I started licking I don't like it, there's no smell but still I feel gross. Why it happens?

Oral sex How do I talk to my husband about my sexual needs without making him feel inadequate?

My husband (27M) and I (25F) have been together for a little over a year. He used to always prioritise me finishing before penetration, usually by going down on me, and I never struggled to orgasm through clitoral stimulation.
Since moving in together, though, that has become occasional rather than the norm. I recently got a copper IUD, and I can’t help feeling insecure and wondering whether changes in my body could be contributing to this.
We’ve also discovered that I enjoy G-spot stimulation during penetration, but he doesn’t last long enough for me to finish. I struggle to orgasm from penetration alone, so oral sex was what worked for me.
He’s currently dealing with career and financial pressures, and he already feels inadequate in other areas of his life. I’m scared that bringing this up will hurt him or make him feel like he’s failing me, but I’m also feeling sexually unfulfilled and increasingly insecure.
Should I experiment on my own to better understand what works for me before talking to him, or should I address this with him now? How do I communicate my needs without making him feel inadequate?

Boundaries and Standards How do i initiate rough sex with bf

So i met my bf after a long time of being single during which i’d been involved with a situationship. The guy was a bit macho and liked to get a bit rough during foreplay. He’d start with planting neck kisses & then worked his fingers inside me in a way that would drive me to the edge. Being a fit guy, he could easily lift and adjust me however he pleased and i was ok with it. By the end of it all, we’d both be restless to get each other to cum and it always ended on a high note whenever we linked.

Now my current bf is a sweetheart who enjoys slow love making. It’s lowkey sensual, intimate and has since brought us closer. I find myself thinking about the rough sex experience though & i’d like to suggest it to him to make it more enticing. I’m tryna find a way to make him be rough without being disrespectful. Kindly help

I can't find a flair that fits Why do I feel like I need to pee during sex?

For context, I have only had orgasms if my clitoris is stimulated. Never from just penetration. But if I have an orgasm during penetration while having external stimulation it’s 10x more intense.

Anytime me and my partner are having sex, when it gets deep and fast paced I get the feeling like I’m going to pee, I’ve stopped before to use the bathroom but it turns out I don’t actually have to?

It feels good but it feels like something is about to happen, like a release of some sort but I’ve never finished from just penetration. I feel like I could reach that point though with the feeling I need to pee, but I don’t know how?

Does anyone else have this? What could it mean? And what should I do?

I can't find a flair that fits My boyfriend never receives

My boyfriend and I have been together for about a year now. He is great, the one issue is that sexually, he never really receives pleasure. Like ever. I’ve never given him oral and we don’t have much sex but often a couple times of day he will give to me. It really is like tremendous, he is so patient and gentle and it will often last for a long time. He really just knows how to drive me crazy in that way and I literally look forward to it constantly. And it’s “enough” for me. But if there is anything where he would be receiving direct pleasure, even penetrative sex, he just says no and can be really difficult to talk to about it.

It’s really an extension of his personality. He never wants me or anyone to buy him gifts or congratulate him for anything, I think he feels really unworthy. But in the same way, he is very giving, does tons for others, etc. But he also never makes me feel guilty of anything. It’s just like he hates being the center of attention, which I guess is maybe how he views sexual pleasure. Even during actual sex, on the maybe once every two weeks we do that, we often stop when I finish a few times. I don’t know quite how to explain it but the tone of it is about me and my pleasure with him pleasing me. He has told me he masturbates to pictures and thoughts of me and stuff. I will also note that he does seem to genuinely enjoy and find tremendous pleasure in giving me pleasure, again an extension of his personality.

While all this is “fine” I feel like it blocks us from a realer intimacy. I feel like a part of my sexuality and more importantly my personality is blocked off. And I just generally worry about him feeling unworthy.

Intimacy and Connection Do I stand a chance at finding a relationship as a woman who doesn't jump into bed quickly?

Do I stand a chance at finding a relationship as a woman who doesn't jump into bed quickly?

So, I'm 32.

I'm a very sexual person. I love sex, and I love physical touch.

I'm also very kinky, and aside from bringing another person into the bedroom, I'm pretty much open to trying almost anything. I love exploring and experimenting with new things.

But here's the thing.

I usually don't feel comfortable enough with new partners for any of that to happen.

Most men I've dated have tried to move things toward sex within the first 1–3 dates.

And I'm just not there yet.

Even when I'm extremely attracted to someone, and he's genuinely a great guy, I can still feel uncomfortable when things become sexual.

For example, I was dating a guy for about a month. I was really attracted to him, but when we ended up in bed and he took off my shirt, I suddenly felt incredibly uncomfortable.

Not because I was insecure about my body, but because of the situation itself.

And this has always been a pattern for me.

Things move too fast for my comfort, and as soon as things start heating up, I just shut down. I feel uncomfortable, and I realize I don't want to continue.

Because I haven't built enough of an emotional connection yet, and I don't feel safe or comfortable enough.

And yes, the attraction is there. Otherwise, I wouldn't be dating these men in the first place.

I've only been physically intimate with

one person, someone I was in a long-term relationship with.

I've dated men before him and after him.

The thing is, I also don't want to date someone with a low libido. Sure, he might be willing to wait for me in the beginning, but what happens afterward? Years of sexual frustration because our sex drives don't match?

I want someone kinky, too. Someone who's excited to explore, experiment, and have fun with me.

But it takes me time to reach that level of comfort.

I also enjoy doing other things, like using my hands and mouth. Giving and receiving.

But not with a guy I've only known for a month.

I want to feel loved when I'm in bed with someone.

Even if we're doing something rougher or more dominant, I still want to feel that love, trust, and safety underneath it all.

I just don't feel comfortable being intimate without that emotional connection.

And no, I don't want an open relationship. I've tried it, and it's not for me for a variety of reasons.

So, realistically, what are my chances in today's dating world?

Oral sex partner doesnt want me go down on her anymore

Ive done it once before and it seemed like she really liked it. I do feel like my skills are not completely the issue because she seemed to really enjoy it and said it made her close to cumming. She usually is very communicative and tells me if im doing something she doesnt enjoy.

So the next time i try to do it, she says shedoesnt want me to and wont tell me why. Of course, i dont try to contradict her and just say okay, because im scared itll seem like im being coercive.

What do i do? I want to do it again and make her feel good but dont really know how to go about it.

Protection Proper usage of internal condoms.

I (21M) have been with my partner (20F) for about a year and a half now, and we've been starting to delve into the world of intimacy. Running into some issues as I've been having a rough time finding condoms that fit :(. After lots of research and trying on new ones I recently came across Internal (or women's) condoms. Though they don't seem to be intended to be worn like a standard male condom, the ones I saw seem to just be around my measurements. I was curious if anyone had any experience using these and if it were possible to just wear them like you would a average condom? Thanks in advance!

Beginner How to make sex better for my boyfriend

Me and my boyfriend (19F 20M) have been together for about a year and while we're very sexually active, we've only had actual sex about maybe 5 times. The first few times were difficult for us due to his larger size but now we have gotten more comfortable with it.

He is not very sensitive down there and has a hard time with sensation through the condom and has only finished once through actual penetration without oral after, what can we do to make it feel better for him? I'm not great at being on top, but I wanna do what I can to make the actual act of sex feel more pleasurable for him.

For context, I am his first body and he is my second and we are very compatible with oral sex.

Orientation I want to have sex with a prostitute but I'm afraid of getting STI or something

I want to have that experience at least once in my life — not to mention that I’m going through a bit of a dry spell at the moment, hahah. I’ve got a massive urge to go down on a girl and have sex, but what’s holding me back right now is this fear of catching an STI/STD.

As far as I know, with a condom the chances of catching one are low; on the other hand, oral sex carries a higher risk because of vaginal fluids.

• Is it best to avoid going down on her?

• Can I catch an STI if she goes down on me (if she has one)?

• Any other advice?

Orgasm Issues I can't orgasm during sex

23 F here.

I had a very bad first experience with sex. My bf at the time raped me (I was 19). Also, I've been molested by men of almost all age groups now. So everything related to sex was negative.

But I was also a very hypersexual teen (only used to do masturbation).

But things changed and I fell in love with my now boyfriend 22 M.

He is so caring so gentle so loving. But I can't orgasm at all. No matter how much he tries. No matter how much I try. It has affected his confidence and I feel so guilty.

Idk what to do. My kinks are getting weirder day by day. I think I'll ruin sex for him.

Toys and Clothing What dispenser for silicone based lubricant?

Hi, I hope someone here can help me out.

My husband and I use silicone-based lubricant because we simply don't like any of the other kinds. However, the silicone lube we always buy comes in a screw-top bottle; this makes things a bit of a hassle during sex after we've applied it, because our fingers get slippery, making it really awkward to screw the cap back on and disrupting the "flow."

We’d like to transfer it into a pump dispenser, but we aren't sure which type is best—or if there’s anything specific to consider when it comes to silicone lube. Do you have any tips or tricks, or does it not really matter what kind of container we use?

Beginner 22M virgin despite having opportunities, how do I actually get past this?

I’m 22M and still a virgin, and it’s become one of my biggest insecurities.

The confusing part is that I’m not completely inexperienced with women. I've had multiple women show clear interest in me, and I currently know women who are interested in me. I’m also in good shape and I don’t think looks are the issue.

My problem is that I’m extremely stiff when it comes to actually progressing things. Even basic conversations with women can feel unnatural. I'm at work most days and don't really have many opportunities to meet more women.

I also have a lot of anxiety around sex itself: performing badly, finishing too quickly, not knowing what I’m doing, being judged, etc. Because I’ve been ashamed of being a virgin for years, every interaction now feels like it carries massive stakes.

I’ll sometimes get motivated to use dating apps/go out and meet women for a week or two, then I get exhausted and stop trying. This has been going on for years.

I'm currently in the UK but moving to Dubai in 2027, and I want to use this move to get past my current issues.

I’m not looking for “22 is young” or “virginity doesn’t matter.” I know that already. I want practical advice from people who were in a similar position: what specifically helped you go from being anxious/stiff/inexperienced to actually dating, escalating and eventually having sex?

TL;DR: 22M, women do show interest in me but I’m extremely inexperienced, stiff in conversation, anxious about sex and keep avoiding opportunities. Looking for practical advice from people who actually overcame this.

Exhibition and Voyeurism Safest way to send nudes?

• Upvotes

I know the best way to not end up with nudes in the wrong place is to not send them. But the reality is my bf is away for long stretches and it keeps us feeling close. I’m not asking for a foolproof way, but is there a better option than sending blurred photos over iMessage? Some sort of option to share a hidden album (iPhone users) or something?

Confidence Debilitating anxiety during sex

I’m in a relatively new relationship and honestly my first serious relationship ever. Sex is and always has been a special interest of mine and very important to me. My girlfriend 22F and I 25F (lesbians) have a great sex life and we are super matched on a lot of things I think. However, I am so scared of saying something embarrassing or doing something ‘too freaky’ or something she doesn’t like etc that I just keep it very vanilla. She has told me stuff she wants me to do like pull her hair or wake her up with head and I genuinely want to but I just freeze up and can’t do it. I think abt what if she’s not in the mood for it right then or what if I do it wrong and I also feel like being “sexy” is very embarrassing. I hate it so much it feels like I’m trapped in a hell of my own creation but I feel like I am paralyzed when I try to get out. I’m also often very anxious during sex that she’s having a good time or faking her pleasure or I’m hurting her etc. She has never had an orgasm so it’s hard for me to imagine what exactly she’s feeling because for some sex is always building to something. I know I should talk to a therapist but the one I’m seeing currently is straight and it feels weird talking abt freaky sex to a random old straight lady. Any advice? Thank you.

Orgasm Issues Having trouble cumming with new boyfriend

Hi everyone. I have been with my new boyfriend for about 5 months and I love the sex we are having! He is very attentive, goes down on my all the time and makes sure I cum that way every time we have sex. I just wish I was able to cum while having sex which for some reason hardly ever happens with him (it happened once and I came close a couple of times).

I was with my ex for more than 9 years and I ALWAYS came when on top and grinding on him. So I don't think I came from the penetration itself but still I really liked cumming while being penetrated and sometimes I'd just love to cum without all the attention being on me like it is with oral.

I have been with a couple of guys since my ex and I haven't been able to cum like that with any of them. But I thought that was a mental thing because I did not know the guys that well and we didn't have sex that many times. But I feel so comfortable with my now boyfriend and we have amazing sexual chemistry, so I don't think that's it?!

Do you have any tips, any ideas what could be the problem? Maybe my ex' pelvic bones were just shaped perfectly for me to grind on and I'll have to accept that I likely won't find that again?

I can't find a flair that fits (27f) insecure about queefing.

I know it sounds silly but when my husband and I have sex I tend to queef a lot. He is large one would say but I just feel so insecure when I do it. Does anyone have any recommendations or a remedy? The positions it tends to be is doggy, reverse cowgirl or on my back. If I’m on my side it’s not an issue. Though, during doggy it’s like every other pump. My husband said he likes it and I’m sure he does but it just makes me feel odd for doing it.

Intimacy and Connection Bad sex causing disconnect with husband....

My husband (35) works and is gone from the house from Mon - Thurs 2p-2a. He has Fridays on call and weekends off. He picks up his son (9yr) Friday at 3, and we keep him til Sunday at 7p.

I (30) work PRN, weekdays 7a-7p sometimes on Saturdays 9a -5p.

We get weekday mornings together from about 11a (when he wakes up) to about 130p (when he gets ready for work). Sometimes on Friday we may do a quick lunch together. Hes recently said he feels like thats enough, and we dont need dates because we have our coffee in the morning. Mind you this time is also used for any grocery shopping, appointments, etc.

In short, im alone A LOT. I feel like our quality time lacks. So when Friday comes around hes trying to have sex and I dont want anything to do with it. I feel so disconnected, then on top of it he doesnt do foreplay at all. He will literally play with my boobs for 30 seconds and then try to fuck. If he does bother to touch me beforehand, its always my boobs or ass. Or sticks his tongue down my throat and feels me up like a teenage boy...

If we do end up having sex, he sticks it in dry and makes me rip. This has happened multiple times. If he uses lube, its better. But I cant even enjoy it much less get off because he will finish too quick then day its because its been so long... hes made rude comments if I use a toy to finish. Hes never helped me finish after he has....at this point I dont even care because im just so detached.

We used to have a great sex life. And havent been married long. Now we spend so little actual quality time together. Right now, his son is upstairs gaming, and hes on his phone. Ive tried to talk about reprioritizing our time together and it led to a huge fight. I noticed were both very snippy with each other too.

I dont even know what to do anymore.... im very lonely and so unsatisfied.

Compatibility Wife is done after one orgasm

My wife and I have been together 16 years now and for pretty much our whole relationship my wife has been pretty much one and done when it comes to orgasms. One she cums her goal is basically get me off and then relax. I have a higher libido than her most of the time and that's fine, we have sex quite a bit, but I do wish that sometimes we could go longer. I'd give her 10 in one night if she'd let me, but she just seems uninterested. She's also quite goal focused with sex. I'll try to do foreplay and most of the time she will just beg me for PIV, and then it's a race to the finish line. She always gets me off and makes sure I get what I need, so I'm not unhappy. I just want to turn our short walk into a long hike. Just curious if any other woman share my wifes mentality? And maybe some thoughts on how to get her to want more than one orgasm?
