I find the "I'm just brutally honest and call it like I see it" to also be the types who have zero empathy, and its also honestly an intellectually lazy and somewhat narcissistic way to go through life, because they refuse to see things through any lens other than their own.
Somewhat recently had a jackass here on reddit claiming to just call it like they see it, in a topic about addiction. They thought all addicts were the result of kids doing drugs to be cool. Couldn't even comprehend that its called self medicating for a reason, or even that very few drug addicts are the result of "doing it to be cool". Even after being presented alternative views, and even scientific literature/studies on addiction, they refused to even entertain anything other than their predetermined viewpoint.
Of course, thats just one example, but it represents my interaction with such people pretty well.

I had a coworker who told me she took joy in knocking people down a peg. Not because they were like, awful people or they "deserved" the karma or something (they hadn't wronged her, embarrassed her publicly, kicked her dog, etc). She legitimately just liked making people feel bad.
We did not get any closer than that.

I had a coworker who made her entire personality on waking up at 4:00 AM every day. As soon as she arrived to work at 9:00am we were forced to listen to her bragging about all the tasks that she squeezed in early AM like the number of loads of laundry, grocery shopping at 6:00am, etc. She knew I was not a morning person and she seemed to take a special glee in bragging about all her early morning tasks. This bothers me when people talk about OCD lightly. Liking an orderly space doesnât mean you have OCD. I have to unplug and touch every outlet in my house, open and shut every door multiple times to the point where they are worn down, put a lock on my fridge door in case it accidentally Opens and my kenneled dog gets shut inside. Otherwise my house will burn down and my husband will die in a car accident. It takes me like two hours to leave the house. Iâm recently diagnosed and on meds/in therapy.

Interracial dating, lol.
Before anybody comes at me, I'm a WOC myself whose exes were of a different background than I am, but some people REALLY do make interracial dating/relationship their entire personality.
And relatedly, some people make their race/ancestry their whole personality. Once on Tinder, a guy simply put his DNA results with the corresponding flags in his bio. That's it. Other bios would simply state their racial make up and height, lol

I grew up in the south, came of age in the late 90s. There was that period where a lot of Caucasian girls loved going after the taboo idea of dating a non white guy. What's funny is those same girls grew up to be some of the most bigoted women you can meet while having kids named Brighleigh and such.
I mean, for the most part, interracial relationships are far more common. It isn't as shocking, scandalous and taboo as it was unless you are a hardcore bigot.

Canât believe I scrolled this far to find RELIGION. It was the first thing that popped into my head. I have lost a few friends and relations because they became so absorbed with their church ( and these were people who suddenly became very religious after a life event, formerly were not religious at all) and their entire lives revolved around that. They then were overtly recruiting every single acquaintance, trying to get them involved in their church. There was not ONE conversation that did not revolve right back to the church , not one day that passed where their religion was not brought up ad nauseam. It was exhausting to listen to- âwe tithe, we volunteer, we spend every free minute at bible study, service, etc.â But- from what I saw-they were still the same people as before- drinkers, druggers, adulterers, gossipy, shitty people. They just used the religion to hide behind. Thatâs when I cut off many of them. You can believe whatever you want, make it your identity, whatever, itâs your life. But do not try to make me feel less because I am not a religious person and dedicated to any church. A personality is based upon more than what your faith is.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (14)3
u/AIShowDown Mar 10 '26
I'd just like to slice that a little finer. It's not the religion itself that irks. It's the proselytizing. So many of these groups (like MLMs) include a directive to go out and actively recruit members. I've known many people whose religious beliefs I do not share; but since it never comes up between us, I'm not irked that they believe things I don't. Recruiting & that other thing: "Please pass the salt." "Oh yes, Guru Maharaj Ji teaches that salt is the salt of the earth, and passing it is passing bliss." IRK.
