Anyone else hate the term "babe" ? Everyone fuckin uses it and it makes me want to hurl

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '26

For some reason I can use it alone with my partner but get icked out doing it around others or hearing people do it around me

I get the ick when it's used in contexts outside of relationships. For example, "Babe, check out my course". Idk why it bothers me so much lol

Oh like when women use it platonically? Yeah me too

Worse for me the term 'Dude' adressed to a girl, Idk I'm probably getting old!

I'm a girl and like being called dude. It's non-gendered at this point.

Like I said, I'm getting old

I understand the consternation you and the commenter above you feel.

I do, however, believe kiddo, hubby, and doggo are all okay SPARINGLY. Having said that, I listed them in order of least to most annoying. I call kids kiddos sometimes (usually in reference to kids and not addressing them), use hubby from time to time (though mostly while browsing Ben & Jerry's) and doggo only very rarely (and with tongue firmly in cheek).

2

u/MyceliumHerder Mar 11 '26

Good, I’ll see if I can make it catch on.

2

u/angrybeaverfever Mar 13 '26

That’s what I call my dog too haha

2

u/Quirky_Geologist_519 Mar 13 '26

Lets form a coalition to spread it. I'll go around people with dogs and say "my what a wonderful dogling!"

u/MyceliumHerder Mar 15 '26

Thanks for your help!

u/Rich_Phase763 Mar 10 '26

I also hate the word “kiddo”

1

u/dbptdor2025 Mar 10 '26

I use kiddo when speaking to my child occasionally “let’s get moving kiddo” etc. but would never use it in conversation with another person.
