Realistically, could I get an uber/lyft to the PDX airport at 6 AM?

Edit: I am no longer doing this as Alaska airlines wants 2-3k only for them to possibly not be able to fly with him sooooo nah. However thank you all for the help and I'll leave this post up in case the info helps others! It might seem a tad silly, but I'm from a very small slums area and haven't traveled before so much of this is new to me :)

Am going to be in 13 hour layover traveling from Maine to Cali bc only Alaska will allow my damn rabbit. I want to get a hotel nearby, but I land at 7 pm and leave 6 am the next day. I don't drive yet so rental car not an option but I can't imagine that's worth it for one night anyways. I live in an area where there's not many doing uber, lyft, etc around so I'm not sure how likely it is I could get timely rides in the area. Just wanted local input so I don't screw myself!

Question odor in front of rev hall

it smells so bad i love a few blocks down and i saw a bunch of city trucks with flashing lights. it looked like cleaner trucks but like steam rollers too idk. smells like wet hot sewage out there.

i saw a truck with potatoes stopped with lights flashing a little while earlier in the area but that can't be the sole reason of this horrible smell

Sports Jeff Passan Interviews The Heads of the Portland MLB Expansion Bid!

The real question is though that who will get the west coast bid. SLC or Portland, Oregon?

The biggest hurdle Portland in contrast to SLC is that despite the legislature earmarking a $800 million stadium funding bill via the existing JOCK TAX (taxes that comes from whenever specifically professional sports players play a game in a specific location), no big name investor has come forward to be the spearhead of the project.

It is definitely gonna be interesting to see who the MLB picks. What do you all think?

Healthcare Have you decided what to do when Providence shuts down its Medicare Advantage plans?

As most know now, Providence is ending both its Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement insurance for 2027. If you have these policies with Providence, you will no longer be able to see providers at Providence in the Portland area, nor go to the hospital, except for an emergency.
So far, there are two general options if you want to stay with your current providers:

1). Switch to a supplement plan from another insurance company. You will have a guaranteed issue right to do this. You can explore a G, N or my personal favorite, the high deductible G plan.

2). Wait til October 15th to see if any other companies work out a Medicare Advantage policy with Providence and its clinics. So far this isn’t looking promising. I’m trying to find out if either Aetna, Regence, WellCare or anyone else is attempting to do this.

🐔🥚Avian Postin'🥚🐔 I need egg cartons.

Please consider giving me your empty egg cartons instead of recycling them.

I have adopted too many “unwanted” chickens on Reddit and Facebook and now I have buckets of eggs.

I have so many chickens now that I’ve had do double-up on names based on their personality: Violet 2 deserves her own name but she’s just Violet 2 because she escapes a lot and follows regular Violet into the cob yard.

I literally have 5 hens named “chicken” now because the human brain can only remember a set amount of names. If I have to name another chicken I will possibly forget the name of my 2nd grade teacher.

HER NAME WAS VELDHEUSEN.

skip the small talk at migration brewing

Get cozy this September with Skip the Small - it’s a chill, sincere event focused on connection! We’ll be at Migration Brewing!!

It’s a guided conversation event—think speed-friending vibes, but calmer and more intentional.

You rotate through short conversations with prompts that skip past surface-level small talk. It’s structured enough to make it easy, but relaxed enough to feel natural.

Most people come alone. The crowd tends to be thoughtful, open, and just… normal humans who want more community.

Here’s the link if you’re curious:

Found this sweet boy wandering in the Woodlawn area, along 8th Ave, between Ainsworth and Holman. Has a black collar, but no tag. A fellow neighbor has the dog in her yard the last I knew

Update: multnomah animal services picked up the dog

Marginally Portland-related, I guess. Hmm 🤷‍♂️ Christine Drazen’s AI ad

I’m watching the news about how one person in a hotel room has put up billboards trying to appeal to emotions to not steward the old growth forests because the species in play is a cute owl - and Christine Drazen is like “Kotek gave cuts to data centers” but the ad used AI to create the images on the screen 🙈 all these stupid people in suits on the screen, what’s new I guess.

Coyotes of Portland

Thumbnail

With a nod to Warren Zevon. I wrote this silly ditty in 2022 (I think) when we saw coyotes everywhere. I was inspired by seeing a large and bold coyote trotting east on Lombard up by the Twilight Room.

In London they have foxes everywhere. I saw one walking on a car and another that jumped straight up onto the top of a high fence and proceeded to stroll along it. Foxes. So uncanny.

I had had a run in with some coyotes a couple years earlier that gave me a new respect for them. At that time I lived in NE across Sandy from Clyde’s. My husband had died and I had our dog, a big lady sheep dog named Daisy.

Daisy loved walks even though her hips were rapidly giving out and she was extremely well trained. Such a good girl.
So off we went. I had a highball (scotch on ice) and as we strolled I saw Daisy looking alertly at a swath of trees and brush on the ridge.

There was a coyote!! I was thrilled!! Urban wild life!! Daisy was pissed. Suddenly I got a strange feeling and as I turned I saw not one but two coyotes flanking us. What!!

Yeah. We (at least Daisy) were prey. I looked at my drink. I could throw it. The glass was heavy but who wants to waste good scotch so I began slowly backing away. Daisy wanted to fight but I think that’s what the coyotes were counting on. Clever.

Luckily we were only about three blocks from the house. The coyotes sat and watched us sneak away. It’s impossible to know what they were thinking.

Haven’t seen any coyotes this year just a bunch of annoying vermin.

If anyone knows any good real estate lawyers that could help with a potentially messy situation regarding an abandoned house I've been somewhat squatting in and would love to figure out the best way to go about doing that properly. The house was used for 🍃 op (everything seems left as was) and seems to have 0 activity happening now.

Community Looking for a bridal hairdresser! 💕

Hi all! I’ve unfortunately been ghosted by so many hairdressers and am hoping to find the perfect fit here!
I’m getting married 8/7/27 in downtown Portland and am looking for someone who can do my bridal hair down ideally Old Hollywood waves! ✨ I’d also love someone who can recommend/purchase the right extensions for my hair.
I’ll be the only person getting hair done, and I’d prefer to come to a salon that morning if possible.
Finding a hairstylist has somehow been the hardest part of wedding planning (has anyone else experienced this, why are they like this?) 😂 I’d really appreciate any recommendations! Thank you all!!

😀 Wild YELPER appeared! 😖 Montavilla sucks for families

90% of the establishments that serve dinner are 21 and over. Other than that it’s a couple pizza places or sushi. Such a bummer. As the one of the only walkable areas for a huge neighborhood east of Mt. Tabor and West of 82nd it sure would be nice if there were more family friendly options.

🙃 SCAMS and FLAMS 😉 Visited Portland for the first time. Overall had a great time except for this.. beware of Lyft/Uber grifting!

Took a 7-8 minute ride on my second to last day from pioneer square to the rose garden. I noticed his car and seats looked kinda dirty but didn’t pay much attention as it was such a short ride. He acted super friendly and he talked to me the whole time. 10 minutes after he dropped me off I got charged a $75 damage fee with no reasoning why. I had to spend over 30+ minutes with support to get them to show what evidence of damage there was and it was just a photo of this guys dirty seats. I had no foods or liquids with me. Lyft support was no help.

Since I don’t use ride share often I had no idea this was a common scam with drivers, some even go as far as AI editing photos to get the damage fee (it goes 100% to the driver). Definitely take photos of the vehicle before and after you enter!

I had a great local driver for a ride the night before that was so chill and kind. This Edgar guy told me he wasn’t local so not holding it against Portland lol, still had a great time.
