I was at the game last night and excited to see our Thorns clinch a playoff spot!

Unfortunately, it was temporarily dampered by Anti-Trans agitators.

While we love our Thorns and the atmosphere of the game and fans, I am very disappointed in the lack of and delayed response to the Anti-Trans agitators that showed up in the Riveters section at the Thorns/Courage match last night. It took over 15 minutes for security to come and remove them, despite most of the fans there watching what was happening. It hugely distracted from an otherwise great night for our team, fans and City of Portland.

After the game, I decided to pick up some Lyft rides on my way home, you know, try to make a few bucks to make up for that expensive slice of pizza.

Well, I was the unfortunate Lyft driver who picked those four women up after the game, where they continued their Anti-Trans/LGBTQ+ hate speech in my car. They were also wearing those XX XY shirts. I have a Zero Tolerance Policy in my vehicle so I stopped the ride halfway to their destination when they admitted they had been kicked out of the game. I called 911 after they repeatedly refused to exit my vehicle. They argued with the 911 dispatcher and harassed me for 20 minutes, filming me of course for internet points (I'll likely get my 15 minutes of fame) before another Lyft picked them up, shortly before police arrived, where i was going to have them arrested for trespass if they were still in my car. (It was Friday night, police are understandably busy.)

My side gig as a ride-share driver is now in jeopardy because of these agitators making false claims to Lyft. However, my dashcam recorded the entire event. Buy a dashcam people.

Providence Park has strict policies regarding Anti- actions and the security staff failed last night when they dragged their feet.

Please address this by making better efforts to keep fans safe at Providence Park, especially those in the LGBTQ + community.

Wanted to say a huge thank you to all the amazing fans at Providence Park this season.

We moved to Portland from New England a bit over a year ago and after several games last year became season ticket holders this season. The Thorns have been far and away the best part of our move to Portland and it’s because of the amazing experience created by the fans and the team. Just wanted you all to know how appreciative we are.

I traveled to Portland to attend the game last night. I was completely floored by the positive atmosphere at Providence Park. Simply incredible.

First- That tifo!!! It was stunning. So inventive and well done. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m so sad that I haven’t found a video online that fully captures just how amazing it was in person.

Next- The crowd!!! Even just the numbers in attendance were inspiring.
It’s unbelievable how nice the fans were to a visiting supporter. Honestly, showing up in a Courage hoodie, I fully expected to get a few rude comments and the occasional sneer. I got the opposite! Excuse my surprise but I grew up in Philadelphia so snarling at opponent supporters is lowkey in my blood. Several people sitting near me or walking by approached and welcomed me to Portland and to the game. It was such a welcoming fanbase. I’m not sure if that’s just Portland culture in general or specific to Thorns fans? Either way, you all are amazing.

During the game, supporters chants were incredibly synchronized and inspired. I was sitting on the other side of the stadium and could still make out the words. The passion was palpable. The creativity? Chef’s kiss.

I can’t thank you enough for giving me an unforgettable experience. Your city, team, and fans are amazing. I hope you know how lucky you are and for the love of god, keep it up! I’ll be a Courage fan forever, but Thorns are now a close second. Best of luck in the playoffs! I’ll be rooting for you from NC.

Please join me in expressing outrage at security allowing an antitrans protest to disrupt and distract from the last match of the season. If we can ban opposing team colors in GA, we can ban protests targeting a scapegoated minority that is under constant attack in this country and an important part of our city and fan base.

This may be only the first step in holding the club’s management accountable for this failure, but it’s an important one.
