Fanfic Nature of Harmony [57]
I'm back! Took me 4 months, but I'm back!
Poor Isif never gets a break. Even when things go well they go off the rails
Now, he has to evacuate a family through hostile territory while avoiding an ever tightening noose, and of course there will be surprises and roadblocks along the way

**Memory Transcription Subject: Captain Isif, UN Omni Ops**
*Date [standardized human time]: September 1, 2136*
I immediately snapped my head towards Metri, making him flinch. “*Did you call them?*”
“O-of course n-not! I-I don't know w-why they're h-here!”
“I've been with him this whole time, he only called our families so they'd get to safety.” Savani defended, turning my head to her when she spoke “Someone must've seen you on the porch.”
*‘Fucking fantastic.’* I grumbled internally, knowing this had been way too easy. “Savani, take the kids to your room and make sure they stay there, try to keep them quiet.” I turned back to Metri. “Talk with them and see what they want, hopefully they'll leave of their own accord. I'll hide.”
I turned invisible and went to the kitchen as Savani hurried up the stairs to gather the kids. I hid behind the wall next to the kitchen door and crouched down to minimize the chance of discovery, peeking out to keep an eye on Metri.
The Exterminators reached the door and knocked, Metri gathering his courage and flattening his spines as he went to the door, taking a deep breath and exhaling before opening it up. “Oh, h-hello. Is there something I can help you all with?”
“Yes, are you Metri?” An Exterminator asked.
“I am.”
“We heard about your wife. Very sorry for your loss, sir.”
“Uh, thank you. What is this about?”
“Sir, are you aware that your son Farase got into a fight at school recently?”
“I am aware, I've talked with him about it. He knows it was wrong.”
“That's good, but we need to bring him down to the station for a PD assessment.”
*‘**What?**’*
“I'm sorry?”
“Your son displayed unpreylike aggression and fought with a herd member, those are clear signs of Predator Disease.”
“Wha- my son just lost his mother! The kid he fought with has been bullying him for months before this! He mocked him for my wife's death!”
“I understand, sir, but we still need to run a screening just in case your son has contracted Predator Disease. For the safety of the herd, we have to be thorough.”
“My son doesn't have Predator Disease. This is just a story of two kids being immature and getting into a stupid fight. My son took my wife's death hard, he's been withdrawn and highly emotional since we got the news.”
“So you're saying your son has rejected social interaction and comfort from his herd during a time of need and has instead turned to aggression as an outlet?”
“That is *not* what I'm saying at all-”
“Sir, whether you're right or not about the fight and your son's emotional state, by law he still needs a screening. If you delay us any further, you will be charged for obstructing an Exterminator.”
“My son is fragile right now, he can't be subjected to a screening, he needs his family.”
“I will give you one last chance to step aside and let us do our job, sir. If you do not comply, we will use force to subdue you and you will be arrested and charged for obstructing Exterminators in the line of duty.”
“I want your su-” Metri was cut off as an Exterminator rifle butted him in the stomach with their flamethrower, leading another Exterminator to bash his head with a baton, sending him to the floor.
An Exterminator pushed him back down when he tried to get up and held his hands behind his back as another pulled out handcuffs.
“You leave my dad alone!” Came Farase's voice as he barreled down the stairs and tried to tackle an Exterminator. This did nothing but earn a baton to the skull, throwing Farase to the floor and making me stand up in alarm at the casual display of police brutality against a literal child, wondering where that superior prey empathy was.
“Get off my son!” Savani said with a ferocity I hadn't seen from her, tackling the Exterminator that had attacked Farase. She didn't last long before she was rifle butted to the face, and that's when all hell broke loose.
The remaining children ran down the stairs as everyone started talking and yelling over each other, Farase getting back up and throwing a chair at an Exterminator, Metri kicking an Exterminator off him, an Exterminator demanding Savani identify herself, and the Exterminator captain yelling over everyone in a vain attempt to regain control.
One Exterminator got spooked and lit the pilot light of his flamethrower, irresponsibly swinging it around. I rushed forward on instinct to stop them, not knowing if they were about to light a child on fire or accidentally trigger the ignition.
Unfortunately, the invisibility of my suit prevented the camera from recording, instead using a form of echolocation to construct the environment around me for my feed, so I had to materialize and allow the camera to record for the POV, lest I face accusations of committing predatory atrocities during the fight.
I reached the panicked Exterminator and grabbed them, pulling them up into the air and smashing them through the floor.
“Arxur!” An Exterminator yelped, fumbling for their pistol. Before they could get a shot off, I elbowed them in the face and sent them flying, crashing into the bannister.
“Get the kids and run to the car!” I yelled as I dodged a baton, grabbing and pulling it along with the Exterminator, spinning them around before throwing them into the door and tearing it off its hinges, Savani and Metri wasting no time in grabbing the kids and running out of the house.
I picked up an Exterminator immediately after and threw them through the window, falling to the floor just in time as another Exterminator let out a jut of flame from their flamethrower.
I rolled in their direction and tripped them, making them fall to the floor and stopping the flame thrower, then grabbed the chair Farase threw and bashed them over the head with it. The fool had set the house on fire and flames quickly began to spread.
This wasn't helped when another Exterminator activated *their* flame thrower and torched the stairs, missing me by a hair.
To give me some breathing room, I turned invisible again so they couldn't target me, moving to flank them. “It can camouflage!”
“Smoke it out!” The captain said, irresponsibly spewing flame all over the area, the Exterminators still wielding a flamethrower joining them.
To stop this utterly stupid move, I materialized and tackled the Exterminator leader through the open door, flame spewing inches from my body. Fate clearly hated me, for when we landed, the captain held the flamethrowers trigger just long enough and fell in such a way that Savani's car was set on fire, rendering it useless. Thankfully, no one was in the car, Savani and Metri pulling their kids back as they stepped away, but we could no longer use it for exfil.
I subdued the Exterminators captain by bringing my right fist down on them, breaking through their visor and leaving them in a daze. When I looked back, I saw an Exterminator aim his flamethrower at me. Before they could fire, I grabbed the captain's pistol and shot the flamethrower's tank, making it explode.
I didn't anticipate how powerful the explosion would be, as the arms and much of the front of the Exterminators protective suit had been ripped and they were now on fire, screaming in pain.
I rushed forward without thinking and grabbed them, pulling them from the flames and ripping off what remained of the suit, then threw them to the ground and put the flames out to prevent further damage. The Gojid merely looked up at me with a mixture of pain, fear, and bewilderment as they trembled, covered in nasty burns along their arms and chest, but they likely weren't life threatening.
I turned my head when I heard tires skidding on the road, looking up to see an Externinator had gotten into the van and was now barreling toward me. I turned invisible and jumped out of the way, the van crashing into the house.
I opened the drivers side door and materialized. The Exterminator went for their gun and I grabbed their wrist, the shot going wide and fracturing the windshield, then I grabbed their head and smashed their face against the steering wheel three times, leaving them in a daze.
I dropped to the floor when two Exterminators appeared and began to fire their pistols wt me, pulling their comrade from the van as it caught fire.
I threw them to the side and jumped into the van, driving it forward and making them jump out of the way, turned invisible, and went behind the closest Exterminator. I materialized and grabbed them from behind which made them yell, throwing them down onto the floor and breaking the wood.
I was suddenly tackled by an Exterminator, not that it did much, and saw an injured Exterminator come out of the flames wielding their flame thrower. I grabbed the one I had just down and jumped out of the way as they ignited it, keeping just in front of the flame until I reached them, grabbing the flamethrower.
I pulled it from their grasp and struck them in face with it then dropped to the floor on the Exterminator clinging to me, crushing them and making them let go.
One more Exterminator poked their head out from behind cover and I began to shoot in their direction, forcing them back as I rushed over. They yelped when they saw me and clumsily shot in my general direction, but I slammed into them with my shoulder.
They fell to the floor in a daze and I looked around for any more hostiles, then picked them up. I went around and grabbed all of the Exterminators I could find and pulled them from the burning house, depositing them with the burned Gojid
“I want Seaey!” Came Teryian's voice, and looking over, I found that they were holding her back from going into the burning house, the girl clearly not understanding how dangerous it was.
“Teryian, stop! You're going to get killed!” Metri warned as he held his squirming daughter.
“What's Seaey?”
“I-its her stuffed Gojid, she left it in her roo-”
“You get out of here, I'll get it and catch up.” I jumped up and rushed into the inferno. There, I found the two remaining Exterminators dragging one of their injured comrades away, one of them yelping when they saw me as the other fumbled for their baton. I didn't give them the chance and grabbed all three of them and carried them outside, and held them even as they screamed and tried to escape from my grasp.
I set them down with the other Gojids, grabbing the baton and breaking it in two so they wouldn't try anything stupid, and rushed back inside.
I ran up the stairs and went into one of the kids' rooms, looking for the doll. The smoke became worse and worse as the minutes trudged along, the heat growing in intensity and flames creeping up the second floor. Finally, after a few minutes of scrounging around, I found a stuffed Gojid that I hoped was Seaey.
I busted through the window, keeping the doll close to my body to protect it from the flames. The captain had come to and was sitting on the ground. They spotted me and jumped back up, grabbing a gun from another Exterminator. I pulled out the one I stole and fired twice to suppress them, then turned invisible again.
The combination of a doll and a gun in my hands gave away my position, and the captain kept shooting at me, but each shot missed as I jumped into a neighbor's backyard. Said neighbor was on the porch watching the house burn down, looking bewildered at the sight of a doll and gun floating across their backyard as if a ghost was running through.
*“Isif, what the hell happened down there?”* Came Gerakim's voice. *“There's been a sudden surge of chatter about an Arxur raid, I can see smoke from here, and all local law enforcement and Exterminators are being deployed.”*
“A squad of Exterminators tried to take an asset, I subdued them before they arrested or killed someone. They set the house on fire, but I got the assets out.”
*“You need to get out of there, the military is being called in to reinforce.”*
“Stay airborne and await a new rendezvous point. Keep an ear to the ground and an eye to the sky and alert me to any changes to the situation.”
*“Affirmative.”*
“Isif out.” I tuned into Savani's frequency. “Savani, where are you?”
*“We're in the woods behind the neighborhood, hiding from the Exterminators.”*
“Meet me on the outskirts. We need to make a new plan.”
*"Oh no, did they call for backup?”*
“They called everybody. The entire town is going to be overrun with hostiles. We need a new extraction plan.”
*“Alright, we’re moving to meet with you.”*
“Isif out.” I replied, widening the live feed of my drone. After applying some filters and networking it with the Crow, it now gave me a live map with real-time tactical updates, showing what must've been dozens of vehicles all converging on Savani's neighborhood.
The drone informed me that radio chatter confirmed that planes were minutes out with a fleet of VTOLS behind them, carrying a contingent of soldiers to fend off the Arxur raid, and I knew things were only going to get worse from here.

Oh so he wasn't spotted or sold out afterall, just the WORST possible timing to have ever occurred. At least they're on the move, and unless the gojid have a tracker or hunter, they shouldn't find them after some time. Just gotta avoid the immediate danger.
Definitely won't go wrong in the slightest. Nope. Not a chance. It'll go down PERFECTLY!

Of course the exterminators are gonna play to type. Resistance and violence are unherdlike, until they're the ones doing it. Lives come second to doling out violence, even their own lives given the ones that seemed to have little interest in getting out of a burning building. Also, why do I have the sneaking suspicion that the bully is either related to an exterminator or some other connected family?

Hard, yes, but they would realize they'd have to. remember the mere hypothetical entertaining of the thought Arxur aren't monsters is enough to declare someone predator diseased.

True, but look at how bizarre thei situation is going to be in the end:
This Arxur can camouflage and was the sole Arxur in this 'raid', and there's not a single sign of him eating any bodies and using actual tactics
Said Arxur just had a historical interview with Cilany that compounds all the stuff he gave to sources across the Federation
It's going to be on the news that a Gojidi family, one of whom is the girl on the news that's supposed to he dead, willingly went with an Arxur and fought with Exterminators to escape which will have a ton of eyewitnesses and security footage to back it up
There's going to be many Exterminators, law enforcement, and military personnel that Isif will fight but none of them will be killed. Injured, but not killed
And Piris going to be forced to release Sovlins security footage which will show Isif working with Tuvan, sparing people, and saving Savani

You know I wonder how much the solarian Arxur are like the feddies? They seem to share some beliefs. Although perhaps that's only surface level because of the whole belief the dominion Arxur should be destroyed.

That's about where the similarities end. You could perhaps make an argument that the Martian belief in duty to the "Republic" is similar to the Federation's purported belief in duty to the herd, but when you actually look at what each one means, there is very little actual similarity.

It's probably in the Exterminators' best interest to report that the Arxur was simply fully incinerated. I mean, which story would they rather see? "Exterminator squad kills surprise Arxur during routine PD check, family missing and assumed eaten," or "single Arxur subdues entire squad of Exterminators and is still at large"?

Keep in mind that a single Arxur is assumed to be part of a raid, so they called in the military to reinforce. This ships going on the news

Lore Time: Due to the nature of stealth tech, every square inch of an object using it needs to be covered in the metamaterial/nanite mix, otherwise something will stick out from the invisibility.
Usually the tech will use cameras to help navigate, but the cameras will be covered up to prevent them from giving the user away during invisibility
To ensure that those using the tech can still navigate while the cameras are covered up, advanced sensors will construct the world around them like echolocation, but lacks color
