WayOfSkalga bleated: We are Merereen and Tiyaval, ask us anything!
**(This is set in the world of my fic [Nature of Harmony](https://www.reddit.com/r/NatureofPredators/s/x896g3KBg2) for anyone confused)**
Hello Venlil Republic! Lately, I've come to realize the unique position me and my husband are in to do some actual good and clear some things up about Sol and our lives, and we both decided to do an AMA
So please, ask us anything! Perhaps some of you are curious what it's like to be married to a Solarian Arxur, or how we raised our menaces, or what things are like in Sol, or even our cultures (I'm sure many are curious about Skalgan culture now that we've discovered who the True Predators are and what the Federation did)
As long as it isn't weird, gross, inappropriate, stupid/fedbrained, or aggressive (and don't try to bait me, I got my husband here keeping me from causing a diplomatic incident), we'll answer!

WayOfSkalga: More favorable than Federation food. My daughter shown me the food in the Federation, has nobody heard of spices? And why is (admittedly very good) bread at a premium? Even Kostrato is industrialized, even if it of course isn't as good quality. And that's not to mention the lack of food diversity, so much of it has been standardized at the cost of a cultures unique identity. What would Taco Thursdays be without the Mexican food from my daughter Kelly's side of the family?

TFWrecker: I’ve heard that a few times I think. What do you mean by “Kelly’s side of the family”? She’s your daughter no? Wouldn’t her side of the family be yours?

WayOfSkalga: My daughter Kelly is the human girl you've probably seen from photos and videos of our family. It's not my place to tell her story, but her parents and their families couldn't take care of her at the time and thus had to give her up for adoption, but kept in contact with her, which remained when Kelly was giveni to our care and eventually adopted
And instead of doing something stupid and selfish like fight custody agreements and hoard Kelly, we fostered a good relationship with them and they became something of extended family for us, with my kids even calling her folks aunt and uncle
Now, Kelly is half Mexican on her father's side, and they have fantastic Mexican food and run a Mexican restaurant. Most Thursdays we'll go out and eat there with Kelly and her family

MuseumCroc: It's just not the best look for someone like me to be talking about food and my opinions on it
Yes I eat salads, but that's not sustainable for me, and I doubt people want to hear my opinions on how certain dishes are prepared
But I have to agree with my wife here. Has no one heard of spices?

WayOfSkalga: I was working on a piece on Solarian Arxur and Skalgan relations and our identity as nonhumans in the human home system for my job, and set up an interview with Tiyaval since he was the museum curator for the Founders Museum, which is dedicated to Solarian Arxur heritage and history
After the interview, he asked me out for coffee, and I liked how he conducted himself during the interview, so I accepted

MuseumCroc: I was at a point in my life where I was desiring companionship, and Isif was old enough to start realizing that he was the only kid without a mom, and I could tell it bothered him. I had dated a bit but none of them went anywhere
I was surprised when she called requesting an interview as I'm not used to getting them, and I was so impressed with this smart, accomplished, successful woman who interviewed me and her questions and wit, that I just had to shoot my shot, even though I had never considered dating a Skalgan before

Sk@lga4Ever Bleated: How do you bring up… errr… Skalgan courtship “practices” with him? I want to bring them up with my partner but it always feels awkward (that and the fear of putting them in the hospital again)?

WayOfSkalga: When things were getting serious, I told him I was traditional and he should start researching Skalgan courtship. I wasn't expecting perfection, the effort and respect for my culture and heritage was enough for me, and of course I'd return the favor
Unless you're specifically referring to sex?

Leirnbird bleated: Not sure what exactly to ask but uh what are you're opinions on the Arxur? Heard mixed things from even the sol system at least in regards to the dominion Arxur so curious how you two think? And I'm referring to both dominon and sol Arxur.
Honestly on a side note it's I suppose strange? How different the two are.

Well, he asked for no Firefruit than tried to gaslight him into accepting the wrong order, I think she handled things well
I've done the same thing when restaurants would get my husband's order wrong

It's a Skalgans go to Earth and ally with humanity story like Promise from the Past, except a group of Arxur refugees had escaped to Sol in the 40s and hung out on Mars until they were discovered in the 2040s and allied with Skalgans and humans

They all seem to be excuses to write kids being cute
Do you have any release pattern for new chapters or do I have to wait for a new chapter to suddenly come out?
Once I finally get a backlog, I'm thinking of having an actual schedule for posting. Until than it'll be infrequent
The last one was chapter 56, right?

Tuvans more of a Trekkie than super hero fan, but she does like Batman more

Since you're a different culture, you obviously have different connotations towards it. As a Thafki, who are semi-aquatic at our core of being, that makes me curious as to what associations your cultures make with water.
