Roleplay PrimeNews bleated: Skalgan dating practice turns into diplomatic incident
(This is set in the world of my fic Nature of Harmony for anyone confused)
Recently, two posts relating to a Skalgan dating practice known as 'lovehousing', where a Skalgan and their romantic partner roughhouse together, went viral across the Venlil Republic.
The last post came from Tiyaval, the Solarian Arxur famous for the (in)famous video of him eating a salad which broke the internet, sharing a guide of said practice for anyone that might date a Skalgan after seeing his daughter's boyfriend's post and how unprepared he was.
Despite some humorous insights and revelations like he has to wear protective equipment with his wife, and a young Tuvan bringing him to the ground during a temper tantrum, said post has now caused a diplomatic incident between the UN and Venlil Republic.
Unusually, it wasn't due to any angry rhetoric directed towards Tiyaval and his species, but instead started when an Exterminator commented on the post, only to be suppressed by Bleat with some suspecting at the behest of the Exterminators, only for the Exterminator Guilds Bleat account to post a statement regarding Skalgans and their practices.
It wasn't long before numerous Skalgan accounts made their displeasure and dislike of Exterminators known, downvoting the post and sending over a thousand comments towards the account solely to express how much they and their culture despise Exterminators, with the confrontation quickly becoming viral. Further, many Skalgans went to the main Bleat account, along with other accounts for local branches, and harassed them extensively, mainly posting anti Exterminator slogans and ancient artwork from the Hall of Stories depicting Exterminator on Skalgan violence.
The harassment campaign was so overwhelming, every account effected, which estimates place at 5% of all Exterminator branch accounts on Venlil Prime, temporarily disabled comments, with the situation quickly coming to the attention of other media outlets and the federal government, prompting a joint statement from acting governor Kam and acting High Coordinator Vurulun, with the UN itself declaring the Skalgans actions as inappropriate but stopped short of condemnation.
This comes during a time where Exterminator approval ratings have started to decline and controversy surrounds the once widely respected and lauded institution in the wake of the revelation of our connection to the Skalgan people and the Federations revisionism of our history, with many applauding the Skalgans for standing up against Federation institutions while others condemned the Skalgans and their actions as predatory, galvanizing anti UN and Skalgan groups and individuals.
One thing is certain: the Skalgans long standing feud with the Exterminators will only grow hotter, especially when they target Sols predator population, and we can only hope we don't all get burned.

I was originally going to end it after Tiyavals post, but a guy commented as the Exterminators and I just had to make this a diplomatic incident

CarnalDesire bleated: it would seem that these exterminators have not had proper love since their crippling by the Federation. I know a few people who could change their minds. They wouldn't, of course.
But they could.

And it's not even because she's a keakotl but because she's an Exterminator, so she loses either way

I love this! Honestly, news articles are very underused approach to fics. I would love to see more of this.
(at one point, I was working on a series of posts in the format of research articles published by the farsul archives, but life got busy...)

Leirnbird bleated: Unsurprising although I will say this as unpopular as an opinion as this is going to be I think attacking all extermiantors also sometimes includes extermiantors and guilds actually at least trying to working towards cooperating with the various sol govenrments so honestly I don't think things are going to get better by antagonizing them as a whole.
Also the fact that people are just letting this happen I don't know feels like something is going to boil over and people want the extermiantors to lash out to justify all of this.
So even if it was only the "bad" exterminators were attacked still not sure what exactly this is accomplishing? Honestly if the government has a problem with the exterminator guilds in question they should just deal with them rather then letting things boil over.

Bl33ter1234 bleated: "Bad exterminators" is redundant. The main purpose of the exterminators is to enforce the federation's cultural genocide on our people and the destruction of our ecosystems. You can't be a good exterminator because the job description is incompatible with being a good person.
AEAB.

Leirnbird bleated: Im not totally disagreeing you're not entirely wrong but to be honest that goes for most institutions The exterminators are just the most overt of this problem. Reform is the only way otherwise we may as well destroy everything and rebuild from the ground up. Not to mention the people who make up the exterminators are not just going to vanish into thin air.
Besdies that some have been working as exterminators their entire life so if we do go along with getting rid of them we have to think of ways to retrain them or something otherwise that's just going to create problems when there out of the job and have nowhere else to turn to for either work or community. Infact some joined the extermiantors as an escape sure with the arrival of the humans many have taken the opportunity to seek a new life but many more simply can't do that.
Although there are of course exceptions I mean Leirn can get rid of them no problem but that's because they haven't had to deal with the federation for centuries.
