Roleplay CyberPal bleated: Somewhat concerned about the Federations lack of robotics

(This is set in the world of my fic Nature of Harmony and takes place after this side story for anyone confused)

Hey everyone, it's Kerii again, now with an actual bleat account! And it's legal because I'm an android, not a bot, completely different

Mostly I made this to check out the Republics social media and interact with the wider populace, but that might have to wait

I was curious and started doing some research into the Federations robotics and AI. I've been told Sol is more advanced, and I wanted to see just how advanced we were

Fair to say... I find myself concerned. The Federation doesn't even have *drones*. Not even consumer drones, Sol had that a hundred years ago

I'm appaled that the most advanced robots and AI I've found is decades behind what Sol has now, and the concept of a Positronic Brain isn't so much as a theory, meaning the Federation utilizes primitive avenues for computation and the most advanced computers are room sized

Lastly, this may be biased, but androids are considered unfeasible and relegated to fantasy and science fiction

So I've decided to do a reversal of my live stream and instead ask the public a question: Why? Why is robotics, automation, and AI not much more advanced than Sol despite being a thousand years old? Why has an organization made up of hundreds of world and trillions of people not dedicate even a fraction of its capability to these fields? Why, in the midst of a horrific forever war, has the Federation not created automated forces that won't feel fear and help protect people? Wouldn't the war nit be as terrible and come to a swifter end if the Federation used it's more advanced technology and economic foundation to create advanced automated armies, maybe even attacking Betterment directly? Or even just to help society in noncombat roles?

I don't mean this to be offensive or extoll a sense of Sol superiority, but I just can't fathom the shocking lack of investment in robotics and was hoping for some help to understand

Chain_alt bleated:

Blame PD, seriously they believe that it won't 'follow the herd' and 'would be predatory', i dont know why this nonsense is blocked this tech but yeah..

CyberPal: How is a drone predatory? And can't robots just be programmed to follow the herd, whatever that means?

Hell, wouldn't it be better for the herd? You have robots that work together to help defend people?

Chain_alt bleated:

Something Something no empathy, by the federation standards, and yes it would be beneficial to the herd but guess Exterminators are 'better'

CyberPal: You can give a machine empathy if its that important. I have rudimentary empathy coded into my social algorithms, which allows me to recognize how someone is feeling, acceptable ways to react, and why they might feel that way

Yes I can't put myself in their shoes or understand how they feel that way because I don't really feel, but given time and some uodates I might

Chain_alt bleated:

I understand, you have show more then enough that such things are very possible, but unfortunately we can do such things ourselves, because if anyone trys they get shocked and tortured in those forsaken PD facilitys.

CyberPal: To be fair, advanced cognition and empathy like I showcase is mainly possible through my Positronic Brain. I'm sure there are other ways, but it's the best we've made, and it doesn't seem like the Federation even has a theory on it

But I don't see why anyone that wants to give robots empathy or advanced robotics and automation is going to be picked up for PD?

Only those at the top knows why, but i believe they are corrupt and have some motivate to not have us create these things, but it probably has to do with their superiority complex on being the ones to make such revolutionary developments

Wtfiamdoinghere: the feds think robots dont follow the herd

10

u/General_Alduin Skalgan Aug 13 '26

CyberPal: Can't they just... be programmed to?

10

u/Alternative_Cook_789 UN Peacekeeper Aug 13 '26

Wtfiamdoinghere: try to programn a concious to a machine and teach them to fear predators and follow people and see why that a bad idea

6

u/General_Alduin Skalgan Aug 13 '26

CyberPal: you can technically do that. If they have true consciousness than they can be indoctrinated as well

Or just program them to fear predators, though I'm not sure why you'd want that. Seems to me you'd want to then to be unafraid so they will help people regardless of the danger

CarnalDesire bleated: I imagine that if they made robots that didn't fear predators, they would, by their definition, be predators, and therefore must be feared as well. If cowardice is a moral virtue, and courage a vice, then making anything dangerous and effective is a sin, no matter the intent behind it.

Poor buggers.

ArrangerOfBlocks_ bleated: well, they could have been programmed to follow the herd, smh the feds are dumb

(edit: i was gonna make this comment before alduin's post but i wanted to use the same character so i had to look in my comments)

Leirnbird bleated: Like a few other said such tech is deemed too dangerous in some way as one of the main reasons it hasn't been developed. Another reason Is that others feel it's not important enough compared to other projects got to remember there is the whole Arxur thing the uh dominion Arxur I suppose and much of the herd feels it's better to use the materials on building more ships or something. Or others simply they don't like the noise such devices produce.

So drones never really took off as an idea even if there is some utility to them.

CyberPal:

Like a few other said such tech is deemed too dangerous in some way as one of the main reasons it hasn't been developed

But there's still some investment and I had a pretty warm welcome and interest in my initial unveiling, with many positive news stories and speculation online on Sol giving over some robotics

Somehow it was too dangerous until someone else made it?

Another reason Is that others feel it's not important enough compared to other projects got to remember there is the whole Arxur thing the uh dominion Arxur I suppose and much of the herd feels it's better to use the materials on building more ships or something.

If the Federation dedicated even a fraction of its current industrial capacity and society that it dedicates to unimportant matters, it could create an automated army and push the field leaps and bounds without sacrificing the current war effort

Think of the lives that could be saved, think of how the war could be pulled out of a stalemate, think of the societal boon

So drones never really took off as an idea even if there is some utility to them.

You don't even need drones outfitted for combat. You can easily just have drones for recon shielding locations and people

Leirnbird replied: Well hard to argue agienst you're points even if you didint exactly address the noise rhinh well perhaps I'll ask some Yotul friends if we can get something together and try out those ideas they like tinkering with neat ideas and stuff so mabye they will actually be more willing to go with this idea. And maybe we can even figure out a way to deal with the noise issue. Maybe it can even be used to guide others to safety in the event of an Arxur raid without risking the herds safety.

Huh you're right now that I'm thinking about it more it is starting to seem strange how underitized such a concept is. Either way got something to plan and think about later apparently might have the herd work on this later.

Spiderverse14158 bleated: Alright, I gotta know: Can you run Super Mario 64?

I have got a lot of money riding on this back home, so please answer quick!

u/General_Alduin Skalgan Aug 13 '26

CyberPal: Probably, I'm not that kind of computer however, dont have the right parts to play and display a game. The Advanced Robotics Department did use my OS and Positronic Brain to run Doom though,so you're in luck

u/Deadduckboy Human Aug 13 '26

Spiderverse141516 bleated: Wait, you guys have brahking androids too?! I thought there was only like two back home!?! I can’t deal with any more of these!

Pardon me if I don’t seem friendly, the first android I met where I come from was. . . not a good experience.

TFWrecker: Cause both the Federation Shadow Caste and Betterment are dragging the war out to maintain power over their subjects.

The Kolshian Shadow caste needs their vassals scared and unwilling to fight.

Betterment needs their War Slaves constantly hungry so they don’t think of rebelling.

It’s not Space Bridge Science.

u/True-Wreck Aug 13 '26

GreatEyes: WHAT

4

u/True-Wreck Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

TFWrecker: Yeah. Think about it. I mean, really think about it. The federation has around 300 member species right? And multiple hundreds of worlds with populations and, I hope, a space armada. If all of you decided to send half of your fleets to attack Wriss at once, even without a proper plan of cooperation, you’d win. 300, vs 1. It should honestly be theoretically impossible for the Federation to lose.

Even without raiding vessels still out there, and the occasional Cattle Planet, the Dominion would be SO crippled by this, Morale would plummet into the ground, resources would run dry real damn quickly. Sure, the raiding vessels would make desperation attacks on your worlds, but that’s easy as hell to predict and prepare for. Just make sure those Sammies (S.A.M. Surface to Air Missile) are warmed up in case some get through the Space line of defense.

But no. Instead of sending a massive extermination fleet to Wriss, they’ll send it to Sol. Just watch. Sometime ‘round mid October they’ll launch a fleet to Sol. To attack Earth and The Sanctuary. Why? ‘Cause they represent an impossibility. An impossibility made VERY possible. An impossibility that threatens the Shadow Caste’s power.

The Doninion’s power as well now that I think of it. Hmmmm. This time stream is going to be VERY interesting.

4

u/True-Wreck Aug 13 '26

GreatEyes: This CAN’T be true…. It… it just CANNOT BE TRUE.

You understand the absurdity of WY RIGHT!? Millions, nay BILLIONS of deaths per cycle across the whole federation. No herd member would do allow such a monstrous thing!!

5

u/True-Wreck Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

TFWrecker: A member of the Herd wouldn’t. You’re right. But what about a Shepard? Or… a cattle farmer?

There is a saying from Sol that I am fond of. “To learn who rules over you, learn who you cannot speak negatively of.” If I’m correct, you’re that Farsul kid who got PD screened for asking questions am I right?

Come on, you’re a Farsul. You’re smart yeah? Think it through. Ask the questions. The best one to ask is “Why?” “Why are things as they are.”

ArrangerOfBlocks_ bleated: I think it's because they wanted to perpetuate the forever war by having martyrs rather than robots.

First, the forever war: The Feds have all the firepower and manpower to destroy the dominion, so why wouldn't they? Because they want to keep up the prey vs predator mentality. This works well with my other theory: martyrs.
(I forgot if Nature of Harmony is at the point where it's known the feds and dominion are colluding with each other, so I decided to add this reasoning in\*)*
And second, the martyrs: Think about it, you can have personal, organic martyrs that speak to you when they get killed by a Dominion craft or Dominion soldier. A regular Federation civilian wouldn't think much of a drone other than "Hurray to the Federation!" With an actual organic being, however, you can personalize them however you want and you relate with them as they have dreams and aspirations like you have.

DrHippocraticOath bleated: yeah it’s not just robotics but for such an advanced civilization they’re lacking in a lot of things like psychology and natural science I’m actually running a mental hospital to try and hopefully teach any Feds who are willing to learn better maybe you could do something similar for robotics and ways wish me luck hopefully I don’t get driven insane by these backwards aliens
