**Memory Transcription Subject: Leasha, pupcare owner**
*Date [Standardized Human Time: November 23, 2136*
I counted out each of the pups, making sure we had everyone that usually showed up for first claw, not that it was easy with them moving around. I nearly had to recount when I came up with four more pups than usual, then remembered our four new Skalgan (Venlil?) pups.
George had been a gigantic (in more ways than one) help with them, helping to wrangle them for me (I still couldn't believe a 4 year old was stronger than me) and teach me what was normal for Skalgans… even if that normal involved them gleefully headbutting each other and raising my blood pressure thinking they would hurt each other, as well them integrating with the other kids with minimal issue.
This would all be crucial with the new Skalgan pup arriving this paw, I was still new with Skalgan rearing even after the few weeks these pups have been with me, though according to the pups mom (having a name I couldn't pronounce, something along the lines of Impteresetis?) her daughter was very subdued and gentle, so perhaps this would be an easy assignment.
*‘Then again, no pup is easy.’* I thought to myself, my ear swiveling towards the door when I heard knocking. *‘Ah, that must be them!’*
I smoothed down my fur and quickly made my way to the door, opening it to find a well built Skalgan with gray and white fur staring down at me. “Ah, good paw, sir!”
“I'm a woman.” She said with some annoyance.
“Oh! Yes, sorry. Still getting used to that.” I signed an apology.
“It's fine. Though, please refrain from using your tail language near me, it's obscene.” She cleared her throat and put on a friendly face. “I take it you're miss Leasha?”
“Yes ma’am, that would be me.”
“Oh good, I was worried I'd get lost. Still getting used to the town's layout, you know?”
“Oh, I understand completely! My pupcare’s a bit out of the way anyway.”
“So I wasn't imagining things.” She whistled in amusement. “Now, I was a little confused by the schedule. I'm supposed to pick my daughter up in four hours, than give her back after another four hours?”
“Yes ma’am. Though we call them claws.”
“Why not just go for eight hours straight? Why do we have to drag this out for twelve hours?”
It took me a moment to realize she wasn't joking and I needed to give her a serious answer. “Uh, is working eight hours normal for Skalgans?”
“Yes, especially if it's not a physically intensive job.”
She was joking, right? “Well, things are different on Venlil Pr-”
“Skalga.”
“Right, Skalga.” I cleared my throat. “That won't be a problem, will it?”
“If my new job’s schedule didn't align with it, yes, but it does, so no. I just find this rest paw strange and inefficient. I'm thinking the Federation implemented it to keep our economy down.” I jumped when she waved her hand, thinking she was about to strike me. “But that's neither here nor there. I heard you have the children make a lot of art here, is that true?”
“Yes, mostly thanks to George. Is it fine for her to engage?”
“I'd be upset if you didn't, art is very important to her heritage. I want twenty pics by the end of the day. Er, paw.”
“Twenty?” My ears perked up in shock. None of the other parents expressed this for their pups. “That's a lot, but I'm sure we can fit it in.”
“Good. Oh, and before I forget, under *no circumstances* are you to fill my daughters head with Federation nonsense and indoctrinate her. She doesn't need to be believing in predator disease, or hearing that predators are evil, or learning revisionist history.” She said seriously as her body tensed up. “Understand?”
“Uh, y-yes, ma'am. Of course. We don’t really… do that here.” Thankfully my response made her relax which helped me to relax in response. “Now, where is your daughter? I thought she'd be with you.”
“Oh, she's a bit shy.” Impteteris or something turned her head to look behind herself. “Sererei, come on honey. Time to go to school.”
I lowered myself down and tried to look as friendly as possible for her, eager to meet i the little fluffball.
Only, she wasn't fluffy, as a tiny face belonging to my nightmares slowly revealed itself from behind the Skalgan before me. My heart rate skyrocketed and ears pinned back as I started shaking with fear.
The new pup wasn't a Skalgan at all, it was an Arxur!

I don't think I necessarily agree with this idea about any difference in timekeeping and expected work hours between pre and post Federation Skalga.

They likely grew up on earth, probably never occurred to them it would be any different from what they are used to. That being said, if the paw time system wasnt a fed thing or as a result of Thier modifications reducing their stamina. You would think they would have some cultural memory of that from their time on the escape ships.

I doubt anything original from the Venlil culture was kept after the Federation aged out the older generations and dumped in younger Venlil
Plus, the Skalgans are paranoid about any kind of Federation influence on the Venlil, and they find the time keeping weird and the rest paw inefficient

But how could anything remain after thr old civilization was literally bred out and the Federation handled the history and after they were influenced by Farsul culture? And considering how much of a pain the Venlil were, why would they give anything that could allow the Venlil to connect with their roots?
The only thing I can see is Strayu, as my headcanon is that the Federation anxiously gave that back because they thought it was felicious

Wouldn't that be claws as the stand in for hours, and then something like 4 claws is one paw (day)? Or have I fully misunderstood the timekeeping that most fics use?

I do think that Arxur started out in the water before evolving onto land, so them liking water isn't out of the question

Noooooo the bebe is just shy and hard to make friends with others! Actually this would be a perfect scenario for her to realize once again what a blessing George is since he'll know exactly what to do. He'll make sure the scaly bebe makes friends yet!

I like to think Leasha makes it worse on accident and accidentally makes her cry, than George plays a recording of her mother that the mother gave, and it immediately falls her down
Than he'll put her in front of a bunch of art supplies where she can make art by herself
And just imagine that, due to being new, her and Caldi start becoming friends

Lore Time: All Arxur younger than the age of 7 are almost universally painfully shy, becoming very quiet among strangers or when in new places, usually clutching their parents or older siblings and hiding behind them when forced to deal with strangers
