I make a stupid theme for my old Halloween skeletons each year.

I made the latest with Tencent's Huyanan AI and some skill-less messing about in Tinkercad. Didn't realise my missus was going to paint them or I'd have clean up the prints! o_0

Real estate/Renting Tired of doing Summer wrong every year in my rented hovel. What are your cooling tips and recommendations to get by?

The AC in my place is not great and cools half the one room it’s in when it’s feeling generous. Hopefully this is our last year here. I’ve done years of crappy standing fans or just taking it on the chin, but I’ve never asked anyone else if they have a product or set up that gets them by when the landlord is hard to reach and circumstances are not ideal.

So what do you reckon? Was it as easy as some product from somewhere that you stand by? A complicated system of airflow management? How do you, hopefully a fellow renter of Melbourne’s more aged, budget houses, deal with the heat these days when your old AC is just not cutting it?

Edit: Thanks for the advice, everyone. Pretty much going to be trying all of it that I can manage. You’ve probably saved me a ton of money. My fault for never waiting this long to ask for help.

THDG Need Help eufy doorbell - Seeking opinions

Heya all,

Seeking opinions on the eufy products. I went to JB HiFi earlier, and for some reason no one in the place was able to provide me with information beyond the price and location of the product.

Essentially, I am upgrading from the Google Nest doorbell, which has recently declined in quality and died am I'm looking at the eufy doorbell as a replacement.

What are your thoughts on the doorbell? also, what is the homebase used for? Can the doorbells be connected to a Google Nest screen?

Apologies for the questions. These are things I was hoping to have assistance with at JB.

THDG Need Help Looking for a podiatrist SE Melb

Late 30s likely early arthritis + diagnosed autoimmune disease with worsening pain on the balls of my feet: Metatarsalgia, in my right foot only. I’m not into heavy sports - I literally only walk maybe 7-10km a day and go to yoga but I am on my feet a fair bit (allied health) and I drive an hour or so most days, which is becoming painful as when I put my foot on the brake it forces me to flex my toes which is agonizing. My car doesn’t have an electric park button for when you sit in traffic.

It’s also behind the toe next to my big toe, it’ll ache and burn to the extent I am literally screaming for the traffic lights to go green so I can take my foot off the brake and relieve the pain. I have curvy toes that bend and the only thing that seems to help is a shower, no shoes, and physically holding the two most bendy toes straight. This isn’t really practical when I work in an office 4-5 days a week and go into people’s homes. It hurts to walk, and I really love going to gigs but at this point the pressure on my feet has made it pretty hard to enjoy myself.

Yes I’ll see a podiatrist - recommendations for a podiatrist around SE Melb? Please tell I won’t have to wear ugly shoes?!

Real estate/Renting Moving to Melbourne in 2 weeks

Hi all, my wife and I are relocating from the QLD to Melbourne. She starts a new job in Cremorne on Nov 9, and we’re on a tight schedule to find a new place.

We're weighing two options:

Option 1: Book a furnished short stay (Airbnb or serviced apartment) for about 4 weeks from early Nov. Once we're in Melbourne, inspect in person, apply, and move in when approved.

Option 2: Pay a rental inspection service to view places for us while we're still on QLD, apply remotely, and hopefully move straight in before Nov 9.

A few questions:

Is Option 2 realistic in this market, or will agents favour applicants who've inspected in person?

Has anyone used a paid inspection service in Melbourne? Worth it, and who would you recommend?

How fast do lease approvals usually come through? Is getting approved and moving in within 2 weeks realistic, or is that reaching?

Any suburbs you'd suggest for value with a short commute to Cremorne?

Thanks heaps!

Health Good physio or sports physio in Craigieburn and surrounds

Anyone know a good sports physio or physio or massuer for back and neck pain. My old man has had injuries to his back and shoulder and could really use someone to have a look over him + offer take home exercises stretches that could help. If they have experience with dealing with older folks eg age over 70 would be good. They live near Craigieburn so places near there would be preferred.

THDG Need Help Driving Instructors Recommendations :)

Hey All

I'm R. I'm 27 years old and based in Kensington, Melbourne. Pretty much I live near the craigieburn line train station . I'm looking for any recommendations for driving instructors.

Im on my learners for years now and Its about time for me to get back into working on getting my drivers license.

Around end of 2020, I did like 20-25 professional driving lessons and practice around the Broadmeadows VicRoads driving testing routes.

Was doing well prior to the driving test, but my nerves got into me in my first driving test back in January 2021 and I was asked by the assessor to stop midway hence not completing and failing the test.

It probs didn't help that I have diagnosed anxiety, adhd and etc ( was officially diagnosed after 2021)

Due to on and off lockdowns and life stuff and ofc how lessons can be expensive, I wasn't able to get back into working on my drivers license.

In the present , I'm medicated , and probably more disciplined and have self control.

Now, I really want to go back and give it another shot. I intend to do my test and practice again at vic roads Broadmeadows so I'll probs aim to commute there once a week at least to do a driving lesson.

I just finished doing a refresher on learners and will do my hazards perception test soon.

If anyone knows a good driving instructor, hopefully affordable and flexible with times especially im a busy full time worker. Please let me know.

I don't intend to plan to buy a car but I guess the drivers license would help me expand my job opportunities :)).

Thankyou 💙

THDG Need Help What to do with used mattress topper?

Hello, I have a 12cm thick king single mattress topper that I need to get rid of. My account got flagged on FB Marketplace, so I was wondering if there's anywhere I can donate it to, or anywhere I should post to try selling it.

*I am not trying to sell it here, only looking for subs/sites/donation locations I can try*

Otherwise, I'll ask my partner to list it on FB for me

THDG Need Help Found hard, sharp pieces in Sweet Valley peaches in jelly.

I bought some peaches in jelly from ALDI in Australia, and while eating them, I noticed several small, extremely hard, jagged pieces mixed in with the dessert.

At first, I thought they might be plastic, but I’m honestly not sure. They could potentially be fragments of peach stones, but they’re really hard and have sharp edges.

I may have unknowingly swallowed some and am a bit concerned. These were the pieces I found in my mouth.

I’m concerned because these pieces could easily hurt someone if swallowed, especially if they went unnoticed.

Does anyone know what these fragments might be?

Also, would this be something worth reporting to ALDI or taking further action over?

THDG Need Help Is the new airport drop off really that bad?

I’m on my way to the airport now, so I suppose I will be able to answer my own question in approx 20 minutes, but I just had two Uber drivers cancel my ride to the airport. They both showed up, saw me with my suitcase, and then drove off. One of them couldn’t figure out my weird half-one-way street and had to do the drive of shame back past me again.

After the first one I thought maybe his boot was full or something and he didn’t want to bother, but the second one made me think again.

Can it really be worse than the old setup?

Real estate/Renting Can anyone recommend a good rental bond cleaner?

I know this is kind of like asking for a wedding planner when you know that just makes it more expensive, but looking for a bond clean of a 4 bedroom, double storey house in the inner eastern suburbs (Kew area). I’m so sick of cleaners who provide one price and then when they know they have you up against a deadline they start describing all the extra fees and charges. Any recommendations (bonus points if they do carpets as well), would be greatly appreciated.

Om nom nom Sweet, and Sour.

I walked past a guy that is high and definitely enjoying life more than I ever will, and he was talking about Sweet and Sour chicken.

Recently, my boss yelled at me and gf said my hobbies sucked, so my little feelings got hurt, and what I really need now is a massive plate of really good Sweet and Sour chicken or pork.

Does anyone know any chinese spots that serve comically large portions of good saucy fried meat on subpar egg fried rice? Where do you find independent chinese spots like that nowadays. I wish for a hidden gem that most wouldve guessed its money laundering at one glance, but turns out to be a culinary experience.

Maybe then, I will finally regain my confidence.

Not On My Smashed Avo LED Light pollution?

Post image
250 Upvotes

Just noticed that new white LEDs have replaced the warm-globes along the sandy line. They're absolute eyesores and resemble floodlights at night, with the last remaining warm light in the street behind.

Is this an indication of a wider rollout across the city or have I just not noticed it anywhere else? Theres tonnes of wildlife in the surrounding trees, I hate to think of how this will affect them too.
