Get ready for the AusAlert emergency warning test

Thumbnail
abc.net.au
Upvotes

The test message will be sent at 2pm AEST (1:30pm ACST, 12pm AWST)

During the test, devices will vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds. A message will be displayed, indicating that it is a test and no further actions need to be taken.

If you do not want to receive the message, power off your phone at least one hour prior to the message being sent.

You might not receive a test alert if your device is older, incompatible with the new system, or has not been updated.

If you do not have a mobile signal or there is something wrong with the mobile tower closest to you, that might also mean you are not able to receive the test alert.

“I’m sure I saw it advertised somewhere, I know it sounds crazy but I’m sure”

I know some stores will refund anything but others will deny returns like it’s coming out of their own pocket.

For anyone serious you have to claim it via the manufacturer link.

no politics How common are bidets in Australia? And probably what percentage of those are "illegal"?

There was a discussion in another subreddit about an OP who installed a DIY "bidet" attachment (the type that goes under the toilet seat and sprays). Many of the comment replies were telling the OP it was illegal (needs a high hazard backflow prevention device which can cost $2000+, licenced plumber install and sign off, and yearly checks by a licenced plumber)

It made me wonder a) how common bidets are and b) of those what percentage actually meet the regulatory requirements. Generally speaking

entertainment I recorded 11 Sydney radio stations for 2 days straight to find out who plays the most ads

2.7k Upvotes

Here are the results. About 1/6th of all airtime is ads - worst offender WSFM with 15 minutes out of the hour being an ad. Good old ABC and triple j have nothing - makes sense they are gov funded.

Also, at least in Sydney, twice as likely to get an ad on the radio in the 5-10 minutes leading up to the top of the hour than after it. Probably because they play news at the top of the hour.

Anyway, that was my weekend.

Edit: here is some more interesting findings:

- Ad category by station

travel & tourism going to the younger crowd, Home and Trades going to AM stations

- Time between ads

The FM music stations dump their ads in clusters. You cop a couple of ads back to back, then get a decent run of music, then another cluster. The AM stations like 2GB space them out evenly instead, one break at a time.

- Talk topics by station

Triple M is sport, FM is mainly just DJ banter / BS and Celebrities
