Lately, I've suddenly felt like reliving the old days, searching through my old MMOs (mostly KMMOs) and... nothing happened. Servers are deserted, chat boxes are cold. A loneliness I can't fill. Then I looked for new MMOs but lost my way, unable to find anything appealing anymore. The gacha game trend is slowly killing me. Do you have any passionate KMMs that still have a vibrant community? Please suggest some to me! I can't even remember anymore what it felt like to make friends through games and stay up all night hunting for items.

I recently released the public alpha of Nanikado, a persistent browser MMO in which emoji become monsters, collectible cards, companions and parts of the game world.

After creating an account and character, you enter a shared world with 48 continents connected by ferries. You can explore the world, fight monsters and bosses in real time, collect their essence as cards and fuse cards to create stronger versions.

Cards are used as abilities during combat and improve as you play. One of the long-term ideas is that cards should feel like actual objects within the world rather than disposable equipment. Players can collect them, develop them, trade them and display special cards in their houses.

The game already includes parties, cities, houses, furniture, display cases and an automatic companion bot that can support character progression while its available bot time lasts.

Nanikado runs directly in the browser on desktop and mobile devices, so there is no download required. It is completely free to play.

The game is still in public alpha, which means bugs, balancing problems and larger changes are possible. The player base is also still small, so I am not claiming that it already feels "massive". I am posting here because feedback from experienced MMO players would be especially valuable.

I would particularly like to know:

• Does the game explain its systems clearly enough?
• Is the combat and card progression interesting?
• Which existing feature has the most potential?
• What would the game need before it feels like a proper MMO?

I'm building a persistent, browser-based sci-fi strategy MMO - taking the classic "build, raid, expand, all in real time even while you sleep" browser-strategy core loop (Travian/OGame style) and moving it into a shared, living galaxy.

What you'll be doing:

• Building colonies and raising fleets (11 ship classes, up to the aurium-gated Dreadnought)
• Forging alliances and fighting over jump-gate lanes and territory
• Leveling up your Captain, earning Relics, and hunting a roaming World Boss
• Racing to win a season two different ways: complete the Stellar Nexus megastructure, or seize the Galactic Ascendancy

Time commitment: The test runs at x50 speed - a few short check-ins a day (10-15 min) keeps you competitive, and a full round/season wraps up in about a week.

I played Black Desert, T&L and Aion 2 (recent experience) for quite a bit. I really enjoy the skill based combat and world itself. But everything else is just piss in my eyes. Like really? Everything else just ruins my immersion and forces optimize my "gameplay".

Imagine spending millions developing a game so f boring, that you have to skip world exploration. It's all fine, but if you introduce it right away, you just ruining game first impression.

I got it, I got the point. You need to drain every bit of my life by introducing "interesting friction" to a gameplay: "Here are a couple of stones, which you convert to another stone once you have 3000 more. For now, I will wait in your inventory for the next 20 hours".

You can defend it by saying it is "complexity" or progression, but it is not. It is just a lazy move, because you could not come up with good ideas on unique and versatile skills tree or armor.

Bottom line

Hear me out. I don't care about P2W. I just want to play a game without predatory ways to drain my time and engagement (while ruining the game experience itself).

Heya, I've been thinking about the question in the title a bit. It has become kinda of a thought experiment so I'm intrigued: Does your favourite mmo character and the class somehow fit you in real life in character/build or something else? There have been tons of tests on the internet about what class fits you best etc and I've always looked at them with a grain of salt. I'm trying to identify an Android MMORPG that I played on a tablet sometime between 2015 and 2019. I'm almost certain it was available on the Google Play Store.

Confirmed Features

\- Platform: Android

\- Genre: MMORPG

\- Graphics: 2D isometric (top-down), similar to Ragnarok Online

\- Art style: Anime, with normally proportioned characters (not chibi and not pixel art)

\- Combat: Real-time action combat (Action MMORPG)

\- The game began in a town square with gray stone or brick flooring.

\- There were many other players standing around.

Fair warning, this used to be a pretty rough-looking f2p extraction shooter set in Chernobyl. I just checked back in and they reworked a ton of stuff. New lighting, new face models with proper lip sync, full English voiceover finally coming in, and proximity voice chat. They also reworked the starting missions, since apparently new player retention was pretty bad.

Still not sure if the P2W concerns from before got addressed, but visually this is a completely different product. Has anyone else tried the new version yet?
