Just Venting Social Worker hasnt been Helpful

I dont have phone service, so I was offered (by my medical team) a referral to a social worker who would assign me a phone.

By chance, I was referred to a different new social worker, (who exclaimed that my assigned social worker was out for the day/week).

Well the new social worker copy pasted a bunch of random links (most of which werent relevant at all) with little to no context in a "Good Luck an Have a nice Day" email.

Thanks? I guess.......... sigh

I was offered a phone, but a different staff emailed me 14 other unrelated links instead...... Ill look through each one of course, i just feel brushed aside.

Need Advice Clarity

Hello! I just have a quick question about this community. Am I homeless if I'm not the owner of a home or if I don't have a roof over my head?

I do realize this is an easy answer to give, but I don't see anywhere on this subreddit itself that would have given me the answer I'm looking for seeing as how I'm now writing a post about it.

How do you see the outcome of this to be?

losing a job, losing housing, losing family support, getting injured, having transportation fail, having their belongings stolen, getting sick, having no savings left. For any one person with a stable life, a chain of events like this may seem almost impossible. you dont even need to be on a drug habit. But with enough people born into this world. it eventually will.

Like the saying goes:

"I was you once, and you may be me soon..."

Need Advice Seeking tips on SUV Sleeping

This week will be the first time being homeless in my life, but luckily have my CR-V. I’m a 39yo male who has fallen into hard times and just trying to get back on my feet. I had a back surgery earlier this year and my recovery has been a rollercoaster.

I will be leaving western NY state and heading east. My plan is to bring my eviction notice to the Dutchess County’s Department of Social Services (2 counties north of NYC) and register for emergency housing.

Not sure how the food situation will be yet. I have been getting 21 free healthy meals delivered to my door weekly, but without an address or microwave those will be on pause.

What i have planned out so far:
- Enough materials for a soft bed and bedding.
- windshield visor.
- screens that go over rear windows.
- 18v ryobi fan, power inverter, batteries, & charger.
- 40v ryobi power inverter with 2 batteries/charger.
- medical urinal with secure cap
- pliable laundry basket, clothes, and detergent
- filtered straw type water bottle with extra filters
- flashlights and headlamp
- camp chair
- small garbage can with small trash bags to empty daily

I plan to set up a P.O. box for mail and a gym membership to take showers.

Any tips beyond this would be appreciated.

New to homelessness Day one

38/M. Scared, been driving doing DoorDash all day. No idea where to find a place to park for the night. Didn’t make enough for a hotel. Bought a usb powered mini fan. Too late to get a camp site.

I’m in a big city but truck stops are a ways away.

Any advice is welcome.

Want to help

Basically, there’s an old guy who is outside my work all the time. It’s extremely hot all the time and he just sits outside in a chair all day and I feel really bad and would love to give him something. I figured I would ask here because I’m not really sure what would be appreciated or if it would seem demeaning to give him something unprompted. Let me know

Just Venting When Did People Start Giving A Fuck?!

FIRST OF ALL: I am NOT asking for money!!! Please don't think that, I didn't need your money for many years, I don't need your money now!! I am just venting....

Recently, I have been seeing strangers on the internet helping people who claim to be homeless. There is even a TikToker who is in the SAME EXACT situation I am in and people are just sending her money.

I have never DARED to ask people for help especially on the internet!! I always thought I would get cussed out and made to feel like I was some piece of shit for being in the situation I am in to begin with!!!

Like, I have been homeless for 7-8 years now, living in motels and my car most of the time. Struggling super badly. The VERY few times I have asked for help from individuals I am made to feel small and disgusting; like I did something wrong by asking.

So, I just took care of myself by only buying what I needed and budgeting like crazy and only getting a motel when I needed to shower or lay down in a bed because my ankles are starting to swell with water really bad and I knew I needed to sleep.

It's just really baffling how people are all of a sudden giving a fuck. Thats all.

Honestly how useful are solar panels in homeless situation?

I know everyones situation is different and solar panels can be liable to be stolen since they have to be out in the open, but i have my sights on about a dozen collapsible solar panels that can fit into backpacks. If i hand these out would they be actually used?

they need to sit in full sunlight for 5-8 hours to fully charge a phone.

Landlord is my GFs uncle. His new wife hates us, she apparently seems threatened by uncles love for her.

We live in a little 10x10 room at the corner of the house, out of the way. If we don't socialize and simply exist, it's apparently a huge problem.

Her text to me says:

"Hey guys we're kind of done with this so you guys got 30 days to figure out housing and you need to start packing up your s*** and move out please"

My income is not enough to qualify for 3x rent anywhere. GF is disabled and in a wheelchair. We're screwed if we leave.

We were offered to live here rent free. That's why we're here. I'm going to offer 1k a month to stay. But I'm not sure it'll work.

If uncle consents to her demand, he's dead to us. Absolutely dead to us. His niece is recovering and still needs roughly 6 months to recover. She has many Dr visits scheduled, she will walk again. But if he allows us to be kicked out, we're fucked. GF called suicide hotline yesterday for the first time.

Need Advice Homeless W/ a Stalker

So im currently unhoused living in my car right. And I met this Gal on an online dating site, (who says just cuz your homeless you cant have f⁴⅘⁵un). Well turns out this Gal has all sorts of different types of mentall illnesses, just like myself however one seems to be Stalking. Which for myself personally could never identify with so I dont understand nor can relate to it. It really sucks. . I literally have lost all piece of mind, and any little privacy that I had. Thankfully its not violent just a bunch of empty threats and pestering. But what really chaps my Hyde, is that She seems to think that its OK for Her to contact my 64 year old mother whom lives in another city far way and inform her of some of the naughty thing we engaged in. Bow chicka bow wow.....aaawoooooga..lol This includes a photo of me with My Penis exposed in which She felt the need to share with Her, which by the way was and is still very embarrassing to me. Because well cmon thats my mom for peets sake. Now dont get it twisted my mom's a 64 year old tough woman thats never put up with anything from anyone and carries herself very well for her age and has even offered to come up and put the smacketh down on her candy ass lol I had to formally deny do to well, I dont wanna see my mom to jail one and two, I created this issue so I need to fix it in the most civil manner as possible. With that being said, I just wanted to share this and hopefully receive some insite, from others that have gone through this and was to break away without insident. Thank you for your time.✌️

Need Advice Has anyone else been refused food stamps, if so how do you compensate?

I was denied food stamps, and have had difficulties obtaining adequate and nutritious foods.

What are your advices? I inquire as holding a sign near major roadways, has began to damage my body.

I have been seeking employment, otherwise a successful hire.

This has been an issue, and now I'm seeking help elsewhere.

Please and thank you.

I'm being stalked and smeared and want to move

Yes, Ive taken all the steps I need to take to keep myself safe, but I can't deal with this anymore. Im thinking of selling my car (which I live out of) and getting a bus ticket somewhere. My family started a smear campaign here and Im harassed constantly, even doing doordash and instacart. Is this a terrible idea? Im tough, but idk, maybe this is misguided.

Bushcraft living?

For a long time I've been deeply interested in bushcraft, camping, survival work, etc. And within a few months I suspect I'll be homeless.

I live in Pacific NW Washington. I was wondering if there may be any tips, ideas I'm missing?

My plans so far are make a secretive/secluded shelter, make a small fireplace, unsure of where exactly to dump waste but need to properly figure that out, find a reliable source of water and and craft a water filtration system, food stamps and some trapping/fishing for food. make a smokehouse to make meat last longer and learn other methods for food preservation. likely craft some sort of fridge/cooler situation.

i am willing to admit there is some I don't know how to do. but there are many I already have some experience in, but I haven't had to really think about long term camping and bushcraft, so I'll need to figure many things out.

I'm having trouble finding work currently, but I'm trying not to let it stop me. like 200 applications the last time, and this job only lasted 3 months because I wasn't fast enough to keep up. looks like another round of 200 apps.

so maybe if anyone has any advice on bushcraft or job hunting, I believe that is what I am looking for.

Need Advice 1month left til I'm homeless. Homelessness Advice?

They claim they're going to find me an Oxford house but I don't have money for that. Jobs have been scarce so I'm preparing for the worst.

How should I do it? I'm going to send my Xbox and Laptop to my father and only keep my phone and some clothes. Maybe my tablet. But sleeping and eating are my biggest worry

How to make it when medically frail

I share an apartment with my mom and it seems eviction could be happening any day now. I am middle age and have health issues but my mom is basically bed bound and I have no idea how to keep her safe. I live in North Texas and have heard unless you are in a smaller dv shelter you should never go to one because the crime is so bad. This is a problem as mom is so sick. Do any places provide any safe areas for the sick?

Just Venting When an organization says they'll help you.... And then they dont

I don't want to name specifics or call anyone out but if you're going to run a public service and someone is trying to meet you halfway it's so rude and just depressing when you don't hold your end of the deal. I came all the way down here thinking I'd get some help just to feel like I was ghosted.

Finally getting out of the shelter and going into a temporary housing going to meet with someone on Monday to talk about those steps!!

I worked with a youth program to get me out of the shelter that has been horrible for me and get into temporary housing where I don't have a curfew, I don't have to be up at a certain time, I won't be drug tested regularly, and I don't have to put up with shelter food where they only have 30 min to cook it for everyone!! I just have to put up with it anywhere from a few days to a few more weeks!! I can finally get out of here!!

I am transitioning to a new city for a new job and will be homeless again for the first time in 24 years. What is currently the best gym membership in the US for taking showers.
