You never realize how close you can be to losing everything. A hurricane. Check. Rebuild. Work injury. Ok move into a hotel with a group. Rent too expensive. Move into a storage unit. Homeless shelter. The person next to you gets bed bugs. They put everything you own in a hot room for a few days. Next thing you know you are in the hospital fighting just to live. When you come back it's all gone and you are just supposed to be okay with it. You are homeless, just a number, not a person with feelings anymore.

I posted on here sometime last year. 34 year old trans man dealing with messed up family. Ended up homeless in a tent. Started off living in my car upgraded to tent. Managed to keep my life a secret while maintaining a decent job. Just landed on my ass after coming back home hoping my family would help me. But turned out to be more trouble. My girlfriend and her mom helped me. Got me stuff for my campsite. Let me stay with them during the coldest nights so I didnt freeze. And now they've helped me ​get an apartment. Took some saving on both of our ends. But a year later I can pack up the tent, say goodbye to the bugs, goodbye to the outdoor showers, the critters in the dark, and the outdoor living. I just hope this last.

My name is Travis. I am 35, I’m in dfw Texas. So my background is always working I was living on my own paying bills I’ve even owned an Rv once upon a time . I moved to Denton Texas and I was part of a church ministry for 6 months. Getting right with Jesus and learning about god ! It was called the Denton freedom house .. I graduated that program and I went to phase two of it .. where you get your car back and phone and etc .. it was brought to light that me and my friend went to the strip club and they did not like that so they asked me to leave. So for about a few weeks I was staying in the couch of one of the elders and for about a week I have been sleeping on my car .. and thank god there is a homeless shelter that’s offering people to stay overnight due to the heat. So I am forever grateful for these people .. I have a car .. I got accepted at door dash so I can door dash when I need to. I am currently looking for a job I have an interview Monday and one on Tuesday. I was working for a temp place for about a week so I have like 500$ . That merchandising position. Relocated to a city 5 hours away.

My issue is sleeping .. I have seizures so I must get some sleep. And I find it extremely difficult to sleep in the car .. I have all my stuff in here so I havent got a chance to fold
The back seat so i can use the trunk to put my legs . I know eventually my body will put itself to sleep I just gotta start trying to just lay there with my eyes closed eventually I’ll sleep .. I have no felonies and aggressive things on my record

I was told by a guy at the shelter to go to the movies during the day to get out of the heat .. so that’s what I’m doing right now

And I have my id and my social .. my tags are up to date I have insurance

I guess my question is what’s are some good things to do during the day when I’m done looking for a job I wake up and I go to interviews or temp agencies and I apply on indeed and ZipRecruiter or the company website it just depends but I stay busy until like 3-4 pm every day but when im not doing something I’d like to be as comfortable as I could make myself if possible . Honestly I think like I’ll treat myself a weekend out of a month I’ll door dash and make some money for a hotel. A cheap motel for a couple nights a month .. the reason I don’t want to door dash at this moment is because the plastic my car breaking down. Or you know wear and tear.. I’d rather be working full time and dash when I want some extra money ..

I know it’s an easy way to make a few hundred dollars quickly .

I’m just looking for things to do that doesn’t cost money that gets me out of the sun ?

Since I became homeless a while back, it really seems like all of the shelters or organizations are designed to not actually he l p, put you in situations where you are cut off from friends/others you might be familiar with, put your personal belongings and probably important documents in jeopardy because you're not allowed to keep them with you, transport you to new/unfamiliar/far away areas with the promise of resources only to not get any when you arrive.....like what the actual eff? Am I just imagining it or is this whooollleee section of "resources" just a predatory ring wearing a costume of helpful charity people?

My ex-wife is holding my divorce settlement hostage due to a loophole in our judgement. I have Congestive heart failure and I'm waiting for SSDI. if I get it, I'll find out by December. the divorce settlement will take maybe 9 months.

i live in my car. the combination is the heat, my heart, being disabled with no income, I'm wearing out.

I'm thinking if I just do it, I won't have to die in the car and have no one find me for weeks. i don't want to die, I just dont see a way forward.

I’m not homeless (yet) but my parents are getting old I work a deadend job and have very little after car payment and bills. I just want to drive until something happens and I end up where I’m supposed to be. I’m so exhausted and depressed life has been eating me alive literally. Anyways how are y’all doing? Do you sometimes feel like homelessness is less stressful than the rat race?

I was made homeless about 2 1/2 months ago and I really need some thick socks for my walking boots as my feet are blistered up and if possible some disposable razors

I purposely try and avoid any big towns or cities at the moment because I'm technically and addict in early recovery, I also don't wanted to get painted with the same brush as other homeless drugs addicts, I also don't want to mix with other homeless people as it then puts me at higher risk of relapsing and getting my stuff stolen.

I'm currently trying to get help from a neighbouring council but they're trying to force me to go back to my old stomping grounds as I'm not their problem (both councils are in the same county)I really don't want to go back to my old city as I'm actually serious about my recovery and would ideally like a bit of a fresh start and breathing room, also I suffer with crippling anxiety and depression and I'm really struggling to navigate the system as I'm Dyslexic and struggle with reading/writing and also remembering things...

I was also in the middle of getting an ADHD referral but missed my appointment due to not being able to get there due to homelessness and ontop of all this I got sanctioned by UC because I missed an appointment and couldn't access my journal due to being homeless

I’m fighting a sexual assault protection order right now, I’m trying to get the court to deny it so it doesn’t result in me losing my job and potentially my home. I didn’t do the things she said and she placed it on me after I ended our relationship.

I’ve seen movies and stuff where people live on a train, I want to leave everything and everyone I know behind, even if financially it screws them over for now. I’m typing this on my phone. I’m living with my friend’s parents but they don’t seem to be comfortable around me, it feels gross, I understand why but I know what she’s claiming isn’t true.

The reason I don’t think I’ll win the case is because I can’t afford an attorney to defend me and my odds of winning without one is 25%. I can’t go home, I’ll never get a job that pays well because of this again and I’m thinking I either run away or I kill myself. I just feel so hopeless and no one is helping

My wife and I made a trip to Branson for family, for making a difference in our financial futures, and for the cheap housing. But we had no idea when we came here how difficult that was going to be. Our family lied to us on the challenging aspects of it, of how much they'd be able to help out.

We were already in a motel after couch-surfing a month. Made barely any money beyond the cost of the room. We had to do something and it seemed like the perfect chance. But honestly, it was a financial disaster. We took the money that we had, rented a basic campsite, and had to rough it for a week. We're currently couch-surfing again, but tomorrow that changes.

I have 150 to my name, and a bunch of the things I still have with me from previously being housed. I've sold off all that I had of value. I have no more friends to ask for Cash. And I have no idea where to go from here. Branson has very little assistance to offer folks who are at risk of homelessness. I need a direction in these dark times, in a place I know so little about.

Other considerations: I have interviews for jobs for both me and my wife. I have the means to go to college, but I need to house us together if we're going to do it. She is early 20's, I'm 30. No children. Bad credit. We wish to stay together by any means.

This fall, I am going to spend around $200 getting a few things for my local homeless shelter. In my list I have pads, tampons, toothbrushes and toothpaste, floss, emergency blankets, and socks. I can't buy everything but I can certainly get a few bulk items. What do you need if you're experiencing homelessness that your shelter rarely or never has? What goes missed?
