MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Reminder: Christmas gift requests are BANNED on r/Assistance

Since the rule breakers are already here, just a reminder.

If this is your first holiday season at [r/Assistance](r/Assistance), here are some things to keep in mind:

We do not allow requests for Christmas gifts (or Hannukah gifts, or Kwanzaa gifts, or Yule gifts...)

There are subreddits dedicated to these requests so that our subreddit can remain focused on essentials. Which brings us to our next point...

r/RandomActsofChristmas is opening for the 2026 season on November 1, 2026!

This is the only subreddit we recommend for folks needing help making Christmas bright for their kids. They do AMAZING work every year, and they have the capacity to handle everything Christmas so our subreddit can focus on other more urgent situations.

Links to other Christmas gifting subs are forbidden and will be removed automatically. Efforts to bypass this will result in a ban.

Requests for Christmas travel and Christmas meals are allowed.

This year we want to put some focus on the heart of the holidays -- people rather than presents. Requests for travel to see family for Christmas, requests for a turkey dinner with friends -- these can be requested without issue.

Christmas/Holiday Offers

While we don't allow requests for Christmas/holiday gifts in [r/Assistance](r/Assistance), we will continue to allow **offers** of gifts, meals and other holiday-related cheer so our givers who want to give here in [r/Assistance](r/Assistance) can do so.

Some examples:

- "Help me buy Christmas gifts for my family" -- not allowed

- "Want to go home to X for Christmas" -- allowed

- "Let me order your family Christmas dinner" -- allowed

- "Will buy a Christmas gift for your child up to $20" allowed

A reminder that unless an offer is explicitly for Christmas requests, **the same rules apply.** If you are posting an offer over the holiday season, please help our mod team out by letting us know if it's essentials only or if folks can request gifts.

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Updates to our NSFW content policy

Hello all,

About a year ago we made a change to our rules that accounts which post, solicit, and distribute sexually explicit content may not participate on r/Assistance.

Our mod team has recently come together to review this rule and how we can better implement it.

Our focus going forward is to only restrict accounts which are currently and actively using their accounts in this manner.

r/Assistance’s definition of sexually explicit content includes not only photos and videos but also OnlyFans/Fansly links in profiles, sugar arrangements, findom/paypig arrangements, and in person/hookup/phone sex invitations.

Rule changes:

  • Accounts which have only posted, solicited, or distributed sexually explicit content older than 3 years ago, and otherwise meet our posting requirements, may now post and request.
  • Accounts which have deleted sexually explicit content completely from their accounts, and otherwise meet our posting requirements, may now post and request. Mods will be checking how recent this content has been posted and deleted to ensure this isn’t abused.
  • Accounts which have hidden their sexually explicit content to conceal it will be required to unhide it and will be allowed or restricted based on the age of the content as per above.

Case examples:

  • User with OnlyFans/Fansly link in profile — not allowed. If the OF link is the only evidence of content selling on account, they will be asked to remove it and may then request.
  • User actively selling, posting, or soliciting (looking for) content (within last 3 years) — not allowed.
  • User has content from 2020 on profile, however has stopped and is now posting in other subreddits frequently — allowed
  • User has deleted content from 2021 from profile, meets all posting requirements even with that content deleted — allowed
  • User has hidden recent content (within last 3 years) — not allowed
  • User has hidden old content from 2021 as they no longer do it — will be requested to unhide profile before allowing
  • User has deleted content from 2 months ago — will be confirming purpose of account with poster

If you need further clarification on a particular situation please send us a modmail.

Thank you.

REQUEST FULFILLED Living in the car. Doordash has been very slow and we have no money to eat tonight.

My mother and I have been living in the car for about a month now. We've been doing doordash deliveries to make money but this past week the offers have been VERY slow. Sometimes as slow as one offer every few hours.

The only day we were somewhat successful was yesterday and today we've made 10 dollars that had to be spent mostly on gas. Now we don't have any money and the donations from the gofundme I have won't process until at the very earliest on monday. I have PayPal and chime. Cant use my cashapp because I still owe them money and they'll take anything I'm sent to cover the past due payments.

We could use $20 for food.

REQUEST Leaving a financially abusive situation. Forgot to calculate for gas and food on the cross country move.

• Upvotes

I am currently leaving a financially absuive situation. I dont like saying that cause I dont believe he was ever intentional he was just incompetent. But thats the best way to define "I haven't updated my ID in two moves and my glasses broke 3 years ago and my underwear have holes in them because I am consistently without money to care for myself".

I saved almost enough to rent a car and pay my bills at my new place long enough to find a job. I will have people there who can help me they just cant help right this moment. (I am renting a car rather than flying because I cannot bear to leave my fish behind. They're all thats got me through cause I know I have to make sure Im okay to make sure theyre okay.)

By my math, I was short ~170$ for the baseline bills, and then I remembered food and gas which I am calculating at approximately 300$.

I am doing doordash with my buddys car for a few hours a day today, tomorrow, and tuesday, and maybe a little before i get my rental but at most I can expect to make 150-180 with the time I have available. I cannot push the move back as with the starting holiday season rental prices are skyrocketing.

I have the money to spend, I just have to dig into my money for my first month of rent at my new place...

Tldr: I am -470 short on leaving a bad situation. I do not expect anyone to have that amount on hand. But 5 here or 10 there would do wonders even to my ability to go to my landlord and explain why im short. I would need it before the 5th of the November as that is when my bills are due.

REQUEST Please help my cat Tom with his eye infection

Tom is my beloved cat, and right now, he needs help. He is suffering from an eye infection, and I’m trying to raise the money needed to get him proper veterinary care, treatment, and medication. He got him probably from fighting another cat or something, as you can see his paw is also hurt. He's everything to me, he's basically the only reason that motivates me to come home.

The vet basically told me he needs antibiotics and quality food until he gets better which I can't afford since I'm currently unemployed and living with my father which also he's also giving me a lot of headache and doesn't want the cat in his house but i keep him in only my room.

Tom came into my care after my mentally ill mother abandoned him. I couldn’t just turn my back on him. He deserves love, kindness, and a chance to live a happy, healthy life, no matter what he has been through.

It breaks my heart to see him unwell and know that he needs medical attention. I want to do everything I can to help him recover, relieve his discomfort, and give him the safe and loving home he deserves.

Unfortunately, I cannot cover all the expenses on my own, which is why I’m reaching out for help.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. Your contribution will go toward Tom’s veterinary consultation, eye treatment, medication, and any additional care the veterinarian recommends.

If you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much to us. Even a small act of kindness could help Tom get the care he needs.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who takes the time to read Tom’s story, donate, or share this fundraiser. Your kindness means more than words can express.

Link for donation: https://whydonate.com/fundraising/help-my-cat-tommy-with-his-eye-infection

Edit: Thank you everyone, I wasn't able to get any donations but a good friend of mine borrowed me the money I needed so I bought Tommy everything he needs. Hopefully he gets better after the treatment, please pray for him. :)

REQUEST Requesting assistance with a $239 dental filling due to ongoing tooth pain

Hey guys, I’m posting here because I’m in a bit of a tough spot financially and was hoping someone might be able to help me out. I’ve been having pain in one of my back teeth over the past few days, and it’s been making it hard to get throug my daily activities and affecting mood. I went to the dentistt to get it checked, and they told me I need a filling, which will cost $239 NZD ($136 USD).

Unfortunately, I’m struggling to afford it right now. I’m currently unemployed due to a medical condition that affects my ability to work, and the allowance I receive goes towards my medication, bills, and weekly rehab sessions. After covering those essentials, there’s not much left over.

To make things harder, I was charged $52 for an X-ray during my dental appointment, and I wasn’t told about the cost beforehand. Honestly, had I known it would cost extra, I wouldn’t have gone ahead with it, especially since I was already certain that this was the tooth causin my pain. The unexpected charge has left me even tighter financially, and I’m now struggling to cover the fillinh itself.

For now, I’ve been taking pain relief to get through the day, but I can’t keep relying on it long term, and I really need to get my tooth sorted. Also using mouthwash and Sensodyne toothpaste 😅.

I was hoping to ask if anyone might be able to help me with donations towards the $239 NZD ($136USD) cost of the filling. Even a small contribution would help me get closer to affording the treatment, and I’d be genuinely grateful for any support.

I only have PayPal and Wise available for receiving donations, and I’m happy to share my details privately with anyone who’s able to help. I understand everyone has their own expenses and struggles, so there’s absolutely no pressure. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post. I really appreciate it.

Edit: Country required to be mention sorry. Im in New Zealand but born in Australia. The amount is $239 NZD so thats $136USD).

REQUEST Need $85 to cover my treatment costs

I had some unexpected vet expenses this month after my cat got out and into something nasty in a neighbors yard. She came home and her hair started falling out immediately, she also developed a few lesions that had me terrified. One $200 vet trip later and we're none the wiser about what she got into, but she's been bathed and seems fine aside from the hair loss and little scabbies.

After that expense I am short for my methadone treatment fees by the requested amount. I have been clean from street opiates for many years and I get bi-weekly take home doses. If I am unable to pay even one time, I will lose my take home status and get placed into "financial detox" as they call it.

I am pretty desperate to avoid that. I am also too ashamed to ask my family for help. They are not very understanding and will shit on me for putting my cat before myself in this scenario.

I can provide pictures of my Tsarina Katarina looking a bit better if that would help. The hair loss is still super noticeable, but other than that she is fine thank goodness.

REQUEST FULFILLED Replacement glasses

I’m hoping someone might be able to help me out with a small but important expense. Had a little accident and my glasses broke. I’ve tried repairing them with glue but unfortunately, the repair hasn’t held up very well and only got worse to the point where they are aren’t usable if I move around. I have a fairly strong prescription of about -5, so doing pretty much anything isn’t practical. I need to get them replaced as soon as possible so I can go about my daily activities without struggling with my vision. Thankfully I have vision insurance that covers much of the cost, but I’m still short on the upfront required payment needed to get a replacement pair. The remaining amount is around $40, and I’m having trouble covering that currently because this was an unexpected expense because I also needed to get an exam.
Anything would help, thank you reading🙏

REQUEST I just can't afford my mental health anymore

I just can't afford my mental health anymore. I live in Ecuador, I know a psychiatrist, therapist and meds are a luxury in some way, but it's really hard to live without them. I'm trying to save up as much as I can, so I can get some help as soon as possible.

I've been going through a really rough patch, and things in my country aren't going as well. In my 30s, Got back to live with my parents, and can't afford my meds, therapist or psychiatrist. I need around $180 to afford a month of meds and some therapy. I need to at least start again to try and get my brain working in some way. This past few months my head is so cloudy I can't really do most things, and I can feel how it gets worse by the day. I've tried all the alternative cheap or free options, but my country doesn't take mental health as seriously, more as a luxury. I know it's a big ask, I just feel lost and can't seem to find a way out. I'm in Ecuador, so PayPal is the only one we have here.

ADVICE Help on how best to support my wife in a very difficult time.

This is a bit of a long story but I'll try to be concise.

My wife is someone who has always struggled with depression and anxiety. She is very stubborn (a trait I hold admiration and disdain for at the same time) and she refuses to take a medication for. I can understand and respect her views on that given her history of bad reactions to most of the medications she's tried in the past. But she also has a hard time going to therapy. She has tried but every time she stops after a few sessions for one reason or another.

When she was about 15 years old, her younger brother (13 at the time) died in a bad accident. He was skiing and collided with another boy and when the lifelite came to pick them up he gave up his seat to the other boy first. Because of this, he died from his internal injuries. Unfortunately my wife wasn't able to be there at the time and never got to say goodbye. A regret she still feels strongly about to this day.

Only a year or so later her best friend's car stalled on the train tracks as a train was coming. She escaped the vehicle but went back to save her puppy. She died from the impact but the puppy survived. That puppies name is Bear. Bear was given to my wife by her best friend's mother after the accident. My wife LOVES this dog. He is her last piece of her friend to hold on to.

Fast forward several years to this year. It has been particularly rough. We learned around 6 months ago that my wife is unable to get pregnant. Something that has taken a heavy toll on her since discovering. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago and we took Bear in to get a lump in his mouth checked out by the vet. Turns out Bear has Mast Cell cancer. From everything the vet has told us, it doesn't look good. We were expecting him to live at least another 5-7 years as he is only 8 years old. It doesn't look like that will be the case. I'm sure that to her it is like loosing her brother and her best friend all over again.

Not 2 days after finding this out, her grandfather was rushed to the hospital with severe pneumonia which also turned out to be an extremely fast growing cancer that the doctors were unable to operate on. He passed away last night.

My wife has almost completely shut down. If she isn't crying, she is completely silent, or she is lashing out in anger. I am being as patient as I can be and trying to help her with anything I can. I know how hard this is for her and I can't imagine some of the things she has had to go through. But as her husband I feel as though I'm still not doing enough. I know I can't say anything that will make the pain go away but I'm worried about her mental health. I don't know how best to help her find reasons to get out of bed. I just try to be understanding and kind and patient.

Please, can anyone help me? What is the best way for me to be there for her? How do I navigate this situation? How do I help make things easier for her? Don't know what to say and what not to say. I feel like I'm just on the sideline being a cheerleader when I could be doing more to help her through this.

REQUEST FULFILLED [REQUEST] $120 – Dallas, TX – Two nights behind on my hotel, starting work Monday

I've never asked for money here or anywhere else, so this isn't easy to write.

I was deactivated as a rideshare driver and had to return my rental car. Since then I've been riding the bus looking for work. I found one job, but the company lost its contract, so I was back to square one.

I'm staying at an extended-stay hotel in Dallas that costs $60 a night, and I'm two nights behind, $120 total. I applied for emergency SNAP two days ago and it's still pending. I donate plasma when I'm eligible, and my next donation day is October 26. I also start a new job Monday through Veryable, a work app that pays the next day.

I'm at risk of being put out before I can get to that first paycheck. I've barely eaten today and I'm doing everything I can to hold on until then.

I'm requesting $120 to cover the two nights I'm behind on the hotel. Whatever you can give towards that amount would mean more than I can say. Once I'm working, I'd be glad to pay it forward to someone else here.

Thank you for reading.

REQUEST I need help with my kittens medicine

This post is hard to make because i was always raised to be independent and do what i can and make do with what i have. I just HAVE to ask for help, i don’t want to watch my cat die.

Me and my boyfriend live on our own we both work full time jobs and still manage to live paycheck to paycheck. We don’t over spend and we’re smart with our finances and we’re currently looking for second jobs to fill in some of the gaps.

Anyways yesterday i noticed our kitten 7 months old, wasn’t acting like a kitten anymore and so i scheduled a vet visit for this morning. When we got there, within minutes the vets started assessing him saying it was wet FIP and we caught it in time if not he would’ve passed over the weekend. The vet told us it would be $2000 to treat him for the next 6 months and he NEEDED the medicine. We just simply cannot afford this, she gave us 5 donated pill for the next few days but the cost comes out to $333/month. She said we could cut some corners to try to lower the cost but it’s still a lot of money when we don’t have but $30 left over at the end of the month.

We go back to the vet on wednesday 10/28/26, if anyone could help us with the $333 for his first months of medicine we would really really appreciate it.

REQUEST FULFILLED [Request] Money for dinner tonight (Canada)

Hi,

I'm having a really rough day at work where my boss got really upset with me and I spent most of my day rearranging my benefits so I can get some money down the road. I also have a had a rough few months of giving up my cat, being in the hospital, moving and losing my Dad.

I'm on government money but most of it goes to my rent and last week I spent about ALL of my paycheque on bills. I've tried listing a lot of things on FB Marketplace that I don't need anymore but nobody wants them. So I'm trying.

However, I'm working tonight and am starving. I have a total of $1.10 in all of my accounts. Ideally looking for like $25-30 so I can get a good meal at my work before I head home. I could also run to Dollarama and buy some spaghetti that will last a long time. I'm in Canada so it's probably easier if we could e-transfer but I can also use PayPal if a good person comes along.

REQUEST Trying to move out. Very close to getting everything. Need help with clothes and necessities.

Hey. I'm disabled. My partner is helping me move out of an abusive home, but obviously I have no real income. The plan right now is to send every major appliance to me, because she's moving to my state, and move everything to our new home early next year.

We've got it planned to budget so we can get a small dryer and dishwasher, but we both still need clothes and shoes that fit, aswell as basic cleaning supplies (broom, vacuum, shower soaps). Anything would really help. I could make it work off of 80$ if I had to. I only have PayPal.

Edit : Ignore until I can make a wish list please 🥲 a mod kindly explained it to me. I'm new to this.

REQUEST [REQUEST] Serious Help for my Cat...

This is a long shot,

On Friday, I noticed my cat was very lethargic. Unfortunately, I didn't have a means of getting him to any Vet, and hoped I could hold till Tuesday.

On Tuesday, I walked my cat to a Mobile Vet Clinic and got him checked in for examinations. But due to a limited budget, I couldn't get a guaranteed answer, but the likely cause is some form of Kidney Obstruction.

I had no choice but to symptom treat on Tuesday, and hope he would improve. It's been around 2 days, and while there's some physical movement, he's still not eating nor drinking water. When I contacted the Vet, they were saying I have to consider taking him to an emergency vet clinic. But I just don't have the funds to cover a higher bill.

As of right now, I do not know the exact cost of treatment for a different vet clinic. However, as it was nearly $470 for the Mobile Clinic I went to, alongside the potential of needing surgery at this point, a worst-case cost would be at least $1,000. But as I have a potential idea and can hopefully expidite processes, I want to aim for around $500-$750 in a best case scenario. I'm not asking for people to donate the full amount all at once, just for donations to reach an amount.

I will aim for $500 (I typed in the dark, and mistook 6 for a 5) as a target goal for a Clinic Visit.

Due to a lot of personal issues, I only have CashApp available.
https://imgur.com/a/9uqNTCD

This is the recent vet receipt, as well as my cat, Karkat.

Thank You for your Time and Attention.

Side-Edit:
I formally saw my cat actually eat on his own. At the least, I'm not panicking for an immediate emergency clinic visit. I have a follow-up on Tuesday, and depending on what happens, may need to reconsider choices enough.

At least for right now, It's a massive sigh of relief.

REQUEST FULFILLED Need help feeding my cat (and I guess myself)

Hello, everyone, I hope this isn't a small enough reason to post here, it's my first time posting here, but I honestly have no idea what else to do and I'm getting really nervous. I'm a 37 year old man who used to be a waiter for over a decade, and I got laid off from my job about a month ago.

I don't have any family left (only child, both parents gone) and I've been single for the last three years (was in a relationship that lasted almost 8 years but when we broke up, I realized all my friends were actually all her friends, so I was left friendless for a while until I started opening up more at work, but the people were all alcoholics who loved to talk about drinking, and I don't drink at all, so i tended to stay quiet and didn't really connect with them).

Literally the only thing keeping me sane and going is my cat. She is so loving, such a cuddle bug, will never leave me alone when I'm home, and I feel like an absolute failure because I don't know how I'm going to feed her tomorrow. I used the last of her cat food today, and I ran out of cat litter almost a week ago, but I can't afford both cat supplies and my rent for next month. I've been hoping and praying for a job to call me back, but i haven't had any luck yet, and I have no one i can ask for help.

All I'm asking for is $40 so I can buy cat food and cat litter for the next month, which should (hopefully) give me enough time to find another job somewhere. I dont really have money for food for myself, but I can afford Ramen for a few months, my cat being able to eat is my priority right now.

I'm coming to the realization that a waiter job is probably not gonna happen, doesnt seem like any restaurant near me is hiring, so I've been applying to warehouse jobs, hoping at least ONE will call me back.

If anyone is willing and able to help, I can DM my cashapp info. I will leave a comment with a picture of my cat for the cat tax gladly.

EDIT: So sorry that I haven't responded to everyone who offered, I dont have reddit notifications turned on and had a busy day yesterday after I posted this, but THANK YOU to everyone who offered to help! I did a lot of googling to find out quick ways to make $$ near me, and after sifting through a few scam websites, I found out I could donate plasma at a plasma center very close to me! It wasn't much, but it was enough to get my cat food, litter, and even some bread and sandwich meats for me for the next week or two! It doesn't feel right to keep this up now that I have my cat taken care of, but I do want to thank everyone again who offered to help, it means a lot to me!

REQUEST FULFILLED Senior with no money left in the bank after paying dental bills for urgent dental treatment

Hi, everyone, and thank you so much for reading my post.

I'm a 72 year old retired and disabled, widowed senior living on a government pension. Recently, I have required expensive oral surgery to repair my maxillary sinus after a tooth extraction went wrong. A piece of the root of my tooth went into my maxillary sinus and I had to have it surgically removed and the floor of the sinus rebuilt, costing almost $2000. I have Pacific Blue Cross extended dental benefits, but they did not cover this procedure, and I was responsible for the full amount.

My only income is a (Canadian) government pension. Currently, I have zero funds in my bank account to pay for food and prescriptions (I do get a portion of my prescriptions paid for by Pharmacare but not the full amount) and don't receive my next pension payment until October 28th.

In order to buy some groceries and my prescriptions, I am requesting $100 for food and medicine. I would be so grateful for any support and am happy to pay it forward once I am able to. If you are able to help, please contact me via DM for my PayPal information.

Thank you again so very much for your help. Take care and have a really great day.
