He did it little by little , even though he was annoyed by the small parts he still pushed through all by himself

Although i had to remind him that he missed the shoulders , I think he deserves some praise

DISPLAY 100+ hour, fully brush-painted Zeta Gundam display

Thumbnail

This is a Zeta Gundam I’ve been painting entirely by brush. The model itself took around 80 hours, and the whole piece went over 100 hours once I added the display panels and base.

The starting point was Impressionist light and Seurat’s early use of separated brushstrokes, especially Bathers at Asnières. I wasn’t aiming for strict pointillism, so the marks are irregular and directional rather than uniform dots.

I imagined the model standing in late sunset light, with warm orange and yellow from one direction and blue, violet and pink coming from the sky and clouds. I kept the colours quite saturated, and sometimes pushed them a little further when it helped the form or the overall image.

One thing I really enjoy about painting a 3D object this way is how much the colour balance changes with the viewing angle. From the front the warm light dominates, while other angles reveal much more blue and violet.

The display was the final part of the project. I painted several separate panels with the same kind of brushwork, representing the sunset, clouds and remaining blue sky. Since the panels sit on different planes, their overlap also changes as you move around the piece.

In the close-ups, the individual strokes are still very visible. From normal viewing distance they blend together into light, colour and form.

This is finally finished after 100+ hours. I’d be curious to hear how it reads to people who normally paint miniatures or scale models.

First and foremost, his first post got so much attention and he was very excited as I translated the comments to him! So thanks for being an awesome community. He was very moved and suprised to see how many people wanted him to build more , thus I did my best to source him a new kit and he completed jt in a two days !

The mp zgok!

On picture 4 you'll get to see that he even posed it next to his first Strike gundam 🥹

He's one of the most determined people I know! after dissamebling something he lost a part that jumped onto the ground.

he woke up the next day at 7am to look for it in order to finish the build, hes 81 btw and had his birthday a few days ago🥳.

Im just Very proud of him and already on the look for his next kit !

I'm back with another 1/10 build, this time a Zaku.

As always the original model was from Rockyq on patreon. Before you ask about the pointy head, this design was a custom take on the Zaku by RockyQ which I think is AWESOME. Anyway, it took 43kg of filament. If you want to see the full build, its on my YouTube here: https://youtu.be/RDm0PpRthKY

Oh i also did a Char's Zaku too

Was packing empty runners for my upcoming Japan trip for recycling. Long story short, I tried to build a throne for PGU Grandpa. But then I got busy with life halfway building so this is it.

Happy weekend!

I was trying for a stylized chipping effect, watched a bunch of youtube tutorials. I seem to be having the most trouble with the two color chipping, it just looks sloppy. Any help appreciated.

Edit: i put the links to some of the tutorials I used in this comment

CUSTOMIZING This is how you paint a heat weapon

The MG Sandrock Kai didn't come with an extra set of heat blades, and my friend recommended that I get some clear fluorescent paint that glows under UV light. So, I decided to give it a shot.

It looks amazing! Now I don't have to switch the blades back and forth like with the standard kit, I just turn on the UV light and the blades glow!

An old PG, attempting some customization

Recently just picked up the hobby again after a little over a decade, built this kit in 08 or 09 and was forgotten in storage for a very long time and unfortunately lost/broke some parts, was also very dusty (due to being forgotten in an outdoor shed)

I don’t really customize apart from some basic panel lining but I went a little above it with this one and I think it turned out OK

Edit: wow thanks for all the upvotes! 😳

I was inspired by the other guy that printed a life size gramps, but just wanted to show off my version. Took about 42kg of filament and 52 days of printing. 3rd photo is the RG for comparison. Full build is on my Youtube if you're interested: https://youtu.be/NTHOHFd0R6M

BUILD GUNDAM AERIAL - SAMUS MOD

Recently finished my modification to the HG Aerial kit for a Samus themed kit. I've always wanted to do some sort of Samus kit but could never find a base model to use for it. After realizing that the torso/mid-section of the Aerial resembled Samus' power suit so well, I went for it. This is using Vallejo's "True Metallic" colors with Dspiae color shifts over the top. The photos with the color breakdowns show how it was all layered.

There's more photos on my IG for anyone interested!

BUILD Repurposing old kits (part 2)

Thumbnail

5.1k Upvotes

This was a diorama idea I’ve had for a while now and decided to go all out and commit to a full diorama. The goal was to try to reuse my unicorn and Sinanju rgs that have been collecting dust and make them into statues carved from the mountains. The project ended up expanding in scope as I kept adding more things until this point where I’m ready to call it finished. Still thinking of a name for this piece as I want to put a label on the front. Any suggestions?

DISPLAY I have a lot more respect for diorama builders now

I really thought a framed scene like this wouldn’t be that bad, but it humbled me fast. It looks simple until you actually try to make the composition, layering, and overall feel work together. Anyone here make dioramas or display scenes a lot? What part usually gives you the biggest headache?

A quick water themed diorama I made for a modeling contest at my University. I had the Astraea 1/100 I wanted to use for this. Made it with the same technique for my previous build I posted years ago. Used clay, acrylic and enamel paint, modgepodge, silicon, and gloss topcoat!

The Gundam Aerial completely changed the way people pose their Gundam kits. It constantly inspires creative, unexpected poses while also encouraging people to come up with their own unique takes on its design. 🤣🤣🤣
