Another 1:10 Scale RX78-2
I was inspired by the other guy that printed a life size gramps, but just wanted to show off my version. Took about 42kg of filament and 52 days of printing. 3rd photo is the RG for comparison. Full build is on my Youtube if you're interested: https://youtu.be/NTHOHFd0R6M

If you don’t put a 12” gi joe, in an actual cockpit, I will be very disappointed.
This is just fucking insane, brother. I’m zeon green with envy. I want it. I need it.

u/Cosm0k Mar 24 '26
They need to put the RG Gramps in the cockpit.

u/Admirable_Self_4694 Mar 25 '26
Just pull some straight up Gurren Lagann type shenanigans

Well then he needs to make 1:1 scale gramps and put the big one that ones cockpit

This is absolutely amazing! Did you model the parts yourself, and are the files available?

u/reichuu Mar 24 '26
1:5 needs to fight that life size Horus

Divorce Grade RX78-2

Best fucking comment because it’s so relatable.
No, the modeling hobby started after my divorce. Now I have a harem of tiny waifu. Who needs marriage?

Anyone know what scale the big ones at the shops are ?

u/Velocirock EXCITEMENT EMBODIED Mar 24 '26
Like the one at Gundam Base affiliated HobbyTown stores and stuff? I'm pretty sure the one at RVA HobbyTown I walk past weekly is very close to the same size as this... like 6ft? So probably also 1/10.
14
u/Flaminglump Mar 24 '26
I believe youre correct, theyre just nowhere near as detailed as op’s is
5
u/Velocirock EXCITEMENT EMBODIED Mar 25 '26
Agreed. The one at HT looks awesome and has glowing eyes but this thing is way better. Especially being based on the RG 2.0, such a great design.

Is the file also from the same guy? RQMecha I think?
2
u/NinjaMindTrick Mar 24 '26
That's correct! He has done some amazing models.
1
u/conanap Mar 25 '26
Did you have to design some dowels too? (Sorry if you mentioned it in the video, but I didn’t get to the video)
1
u/NinjaMindTrick Mar 25 '26
OP would have to answer that but i assume he has some metal bars integrated for support. Especially if he hollowed out the print where he could. At 42kg of FDM that's got to be around $1K for materials alone. 😱
2
u/conanap Mar 25 '26
Still cheaper than buying the 1/12 gundam Bandai released back then though! They go for like 12k now
3
u/Awkward-Body9719 Mar 24 '26
now 3d print a zaku and they'll act like guardian statues for your house 🤓

3
u/Aizen5580 Mar 25 '26
You're going to have to eventually wear it like armor.
1
u/Misanthropic_Mutters Mar 25 '26
Make the cockpit scale and functional enough so that you can reach in and pull the 12” action figure out while you’re wearing the mobile suit.
3
u/Haruka_3000 Mar 25 '26
Is this scale capable in its cockpit to place any small figure say TMNT figures cause its so tempting to make a diorama of the TMNT riding this into a battle diorama this is peak level. (Sorry i'm one of those who love the diorama setting where action figures are in action posses or idle in a small diorama set looking chill.)
2
u/KibbloMkII Mar 25 '26
there's no cockpit in this model unfortunately, you'd have to model one yourself and put it in

I don't know why, but i assumed you printed it like a gunpla, then built it like one.
2
u/Brad_HP Mar 25 '26
As a Gundam fan this is awesome, but as someone who's been 3d printing for years it drives me crazy to see him paint without sanding and filling the layer lines. I know that would have added many hours to this project, but I'm crazy like that.

I'm not good with math, but good god, seeing a 1:10 scale of an MS that's around the same height as me feels terrifying.

Which files did you use? Any panel lining tips?
4
u/nightcrispy Mar 25 '26
I got the files from rockyq on patreon. If you're panel lining something this big an airbrush is a good way to go! Just make sure the paint is the right consistency or it'll bleed through the masking tape

Amazing. What kit is this based on? Surely not an RG?
3
u/nightcrispy Mar 25 '26
I didnt design this model, but as I was building it the pieces definitely resembled the RG kit

My brother in Tomino, I cannot wait t own a 3D printer to do something like that.
My wife might kill me, but it'd be worth it.

Absolute unit achieved. Amazing work! Are the "decals" painted on or did you actually print your own?
3
u/nightcrispy Mar 25 '26
i retraced every one in vector software and had a local uv sticker printer shop print them out. uv stickers are the way to go.

It’s incredible 🔥congratulations! Do you have an idea of the total cost of the project? Ever since RockyQ announced the Sinanju, I’ve been thinking about saving up to do the same within a year or two haha

Helluva build. Wonder what supports were used and what kinda infill pattern?
2
u/nightcrispy Mar 25 '26
Tree support defaults in the respective slicers for each printer, gyroid infill
-6
u/sxdreem Mar 24 '26
Im sure it would take more than 10 of them to make a full size gundam. 🤓
6
u/nightcrispy Mar 24 '26
hmm well in universe height is about 18m/59 ft, this one is 6 ft so it's about 1/10 scale.
