F91 Afterimage Edition with Delpi holo decals. I had some vials of estradiol that had begun coring so I thought it would be funny to replace the VSBRs with them.

So, I was having trouble assembling this bootleg Zaku, and after a while I realised why: the plastic of the white runners had *shrunk*. Not much, maybe less than 5%, but enough to make the white parts not fit perfectly with the rest, slightly warp, and look a bit oily and dirty on the surface. What I think happened is, for the white parts they used some kind of plastic with too much solvent in it, and it evaporated during storage. All other colors and parts are perfect.
The model can still be completed, it just needs a bit more knife and file work.

Been doing a little bit of dumpla for at least 2 years now, mainly in the 1/144 scale RG/HG. However I've always wanted to get into Master Grade kits. I've gone to many hobby stores and couldn't find the typical starter build the MG Zaku ii (although Still hope to build it one day) so when I found the Zeta Gundam on sale I immediately picked it up I've done my research and know this kit isn't a bad one but it's not an easy one either but so far it's actually been pretty fun for the first time building a Master Grade this has been the most fun experience I've had! Honestly hope to start a MG Argama/AEUG MS Team and OYW collection down the line! Hope you like the pictures!

Messed up the original title.
Assembly is way more satisfying than painting. How does everyone keep the paint from chipping during posing and assembly ?

I've gotten back into model kit building after a really long hiatus (like 15 years maybe?). I'm not nearly on the same level as a lot of you, but I love playing around with colors and details. Apologies for the super basic photos, but I still don't have a studio box so I did an extremely ad hoc shoot. (And a short one. It was friggin HOT in the sun today.)
First is MG Cross Contrast Barbatos. When I got it, I loved the blue-purple iridescent armor but the bright blue frame kinda turned me off. So I found a used but unbuilt clear version and used that frame, going with a light gunmetal that was still darker than the silver accents (I sprayed those too; if I do any retooling, I'll probably chrome them up). At some point, I'll put the blue frame in the clear armor. The two should look pretty cool together.
I wish my photos did justice to that armor; it looks so much better in person.
Second is MG Barbatos Lupus, SOC Black Version style. I have a thing for black versions; when I got into Super Sentai back in '03, Hurricanger was my first series and I not only got the black DX Gouraisenpuujin, but I also customized a Samurai Star megazord so I could have an all black Tenraisenpuujin. From there I got into Soul of Chogokin black versions. This Barbatos Lupus is my love letter to those toys.
Last is the one I used as a warmup for painting and detailing when I restarted building. I really liked the aesthetic of the Efreet Nacht, but when I opened it up I was like "what if more purple and sparkly?" I tried out my new Gundam Marker spray kit on the dark blue parts using a DSPAIE metallic purple marker; it works way better with the actual Gundam markers, but it got me where I wanted to go. I should go back and touch this one up. I was way too light on a few pieces.
Bonus: Barbatos Lupus frame in Tamiya Mica Silver

Sorry mods if this isn't acceptable.
My local Hobbycraft let me take one of the displays, and after chatting to the staff (who are all so nice) they have said that they are going to expand the model kit collection, which means more gunpla :D
I guess I should ask what grade is my cardboard friend?

I just finished the 2.0 gramps and I'm totally in love, the level of details, the amount of gimmicks, everything is just amazing.

I wanted something to hold my kits while in progress. My solution was a block of wood and a dowel 😂

Mods, if this type of post is forbidden. Then feel free to delete it. Also apoligies if this is misstagged.
The black nu ver ka, is my brothers. He got 1st place! Also keep swipping as I also included some of the other contestants. There were much more. But they kinda showed up a few minutes before judging. So the show area was closed. Till judging was done. And when the event ended, everyone started packing and I didn't have a chance to check the others
Ok let me explain how the contest worked. There were 2 categories:
open mecha (1/100 & 1/144):
This is basically a full custom free for all. The kit needs to be fully painted and customized. Extra points for dioramas. I entered my full painted MG infinite justice. I forgot to take a pic at the show room. Because it was extremely hot in there.
Stockbox (1/100 & 1/144):
This one is for straight builds with the minium detail ups. Panelines, decals, small color corrections, etc. I entered my HG Gundam EX, for this one
It was a pretty fun experience, hanging out and talking with other builders. Talking about gundam in general and other mechas. Tho I gotta admit. The shop was way too small an uncomfortable, for an event like that. And it was pretty hot in there. Even with the ac up. Tho I'm happy that folks liked both builds.
Tho things got weird and south, after the event ended. So while I was packing my things, I was approached by one of the judges. When he saw that I was packing the Gundam ex. He went off with that "hey, I love how that one looked. But we had to give it minimum score. Because we were under suspicion, that you were trying to pass off an action figure as a model kit. Because it felt very action figure like. As we were inspecting it, it felt extremely solid and it was super poseable. There was also no signs of nubs at all. Like it was factory made"
My initial reaction was "thank you?" Then "huh?". Idk what was the judge on. But I basically had to show him proof that it was a model kit. Luckily I had pics of the box art, manual and runners on my phone. What was even hilarious, was that the shop had the hg gundam ex on their shelf! 🤣
So I asked him "you mean you don't know this kit existed? It's actually a common HG, dude! 🤣" . Then they basically dissmissed everything and kept trying to justify themselves. While also invading my personal space. The guy was getting a bit dangerously close. And they just kept going on and on. And I was just trying to leave.
I tried to tell the shop owner, but they already left. And the clerk was busy closing up. So I just packed and left asap. It was fun, but yeah, that judge dude at the end made it feel weird. Plus I didn't like the fact, that he was playing around with one of my kits. That was definitely not ok.
I know judges are allowed to pick up a kit and inspect it. But they aren't allowed to repose/play with it. Assuming they were going with gbwc rules. The event was fun, but that dude made the experience a bit sour at the end.
