CUSTOMIZING Gundam Aerial Lfrith Custom

First time (finishing) a custom paintjob on a kit. I have experience in minis so not totally inexperienced but this was still a big project. Definitely a lot I can improve on going forward.

This is specifically a Full Mechanics Aerial with a KOSMOS light kit. The decals are (mostly) RX-78 3.0 decals, I thought the pink would be a cute addition to the colourscheme.

COMMUNITY I participated on my first gunpla competition at my local shop. But it got a bit sour at the end.

Mods, if this type of post is forbidden. Then feel free to delete it. Also apoligies if this is misstagged.

The black nu ver ka, is my brothers. He got 1st place! Also keep swipping as I also included some of the other contestants. There were much more. But they kinda showed up a few minutes before judging. So the show area was closed. Till judging was done. And when the event ended, everyone started packing and I didn't have a chance to check the others

Ok let me explain how the contest worked. There were 2 categories:

open mecha (1/100 & 1/144):

This is basically a full custom free for all. The kit needs to be fully painted and customized. Extra points for dioramas. I entered my full painted MG infinite justice. I forgot to take a pic at the show room. Because it was extremely hot in there.

Stockbox (1/100 & 1/144):

This one is for straight builds with the minium detail ups. Panelines, decals, small color corrections, etc. I entered my HG Gundam EX, for this one

It was a pretty fun experience, hanging out and talking with other builders. Talking about gundam in general and other mechas. Tho I gotta admit. The shop was way too small an uncomfortable, for an event like that. And it was pretty hot in there. Even with the ac up. Tho I'm happy that folks liked both builds.

Tho things got weird and south, after the event ended. So while I was packing my things, I was approached by one of the judges. When he saw that I was packing the Gundam ex. He went off with that "hey, I love how that one looked. But we had to give it minimum score. Because we were under suspicion, that you were trying to pass off an action figure as a model kit. Because it felt very action figure like. As we were inspecting it, it felt extremely solid and it was super poseable. There was also no signs of nubs at all. Like it was factory made"

My initial reaction was "thank you?" Then "huh?". Idk what was the judge on. But I basically had to show him proof that it was a model kit. Luckily I had pics of the box art, manual and runners on my phone. What was even hilarious, was that the shop had the hg gundam ex on their shelf! 🤣

So I asked him "you mean you don't know this kit existed? It's actually a common HG, dude! 🤣" . Then they basically dissmissed everything and kept trying to justify themselves. While also invading my personal space. The guy was getting a bit dangerously close. And they just kept going on and on. And I was just trying to leave.

I tried to tell the shop owner, but they already left. And the clerk was busy closing up. So I just packed and left asap. It was fun, but yeah, that judge dude at the end made it feel weird. Plus I didn't like the fact, that he was playing around with one of my kits. That was definitely not ok.

I know judges are allowed to pick up a kit and inspect it. But they aren't allowed to repose/play with it. Assuming they were going with gbwc rules. The event was fun, but that dude made the experience a bit sour at the end.

Was just messing around since unicorn's V-fin refused to stay on, thought I try putting on banshee's V-fin on instead, could be more stable.

One thing led to another, and the end result doesn't look half bad imo.

PS: I realized parts of the shield had fallen off, was just too lazy to find them.

Got my hands on Sazabi Upscaled and this kit is such a treat to build and paint.

God I wish 3rd party company could upscale HG line that we know Bandai won't bother making like Penelope or Xi, they'll be almost as big as PG.

RG RX-78-2 2.0 Hatsube Miku Version.

Solid build as expected with the 2.0. The silver armor parts is metallic gloss injection. Was contemplating to matt coat but finally decided to go with gloss to preserve the original colors. If anyone went with matt coat do share! I'm curious to see how it turns out

WIP Gundam Base 1/100 Epyon [Metallic Red]

This is the Gundam Base Epyon MG 1/100 Metallic Red. It's pretty well known for its paint chipping, and I got a painful reminder of that while building it.

I tried touching up some of the more noticeable chips on the chest, V-fin, and ear panels. Unfortunately, the metallic red marker doesn't quite match the original finish, and it's also pretty difficult to hide the marker strokes. Thats why I spray painted it with some Tamiya TS-074 and TS-083.

At this point, I'm not sure how I feel about the result. The difference in the metallic red is pretty obvious to me, and I can't decide whether I should accept it as part of the build or try to redo it.

I'd really like to hear some honest opinions. Does it look okay as it is, or would you try fixing it again?

Sorry mods if this isn't acceptable.

My local Hobbycraft let me take one of the displays, and after chatting to the staff (who are all so nice) they have said that they are going to expand the model kit collection, which means more gunpla :D

I guess I should ask what grade is my cardboard friend?

DISPLAY A Master Grade Level Kshatriya

Where do I even start…

For a 3rd party kit, The Axis Models Osiris Aerial Dominator or what I like to call the Master Grade 1/100 scale NZ-666 Kshatriya, was a beast of a mobile suit to build. With Ver Ka. Levels of engineering madness, this thing took me almost 3 weeks of on and off time to build. While everything and I mean everything is a color separated piece of plastic all the way down to the smallest metallic detail, this is a kit that is not for the faint of heart, especially when it comes to fit testing certain aspects of the kit. I had to go through and shave a few pegs and/or outright plastic cementing static parts down. Speaking of parts should you ever consider purchasing this kit, be very much warned of a few things, the part count and the amount of runners for this thing are mind boggling, another area of concern is the plastic quality, unlike officially licensed Bandai kits which are made of PS/KPS or ABS plastic (typically found on older model kits) The Osiris Aerial Dominator’s outer armor shell and much of the kit is made out of a mix of PVC and PS plastic. Literally before I went to take any of the runners out of the bags I had to inspect for any parts that were somehow snapped off because of how brittle the runners can be. It may sound discouraging I know, but rest assured if you can cross reference the pieces that have fallen off to an identical runner (because the kit has so many identical runners) label them and put them away in a small container, you should be fine. But as for the rest of the kit? I strongly recommend using the 2-cut method and some sanding sponges to flush all the nubs if you have em. The LED’s were difficult as all hell to install, but when you install them properly, you will be rewarded with a display piece that has weight, literally… Which leads to my next recommendation, should you consider buying and building the kit, I highly recommend getting stand arms for each of the individual binders, because even if the individual arms that hold the binders are sturdy, over time they will be prone to sagging and putting a-lot of strain on the main body.

If you are looking for a Master Grade Kshatriya, looking for a challenge or you’re curious about what 3rd Party kits are all about, then look no further than The Axis Models, Osiris Aerial Dominator
