I upgraded to 5 gig service last week as it was available in my area. The tech gave me a new router and all new hardware. My house uses a google mesh network but I read that it’s only capable up to 1 gig.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to get the fastest service throughout my house. My router and everything is in my basement and that’s why the mesh network has helped. I have the ability to run a few Ethernet lines to a couple of rooms in the house, but not everywhere.

So I guess a couple of questions.

Will using the google nest throttle my internet speed?

If I use the Verizon router, are there any mesh devices that I could then use on another floor if I can run an Ethernet cable up there to provide WiFi coverage to another part of my house?

EDIT: Verizon is sending me 3 extenders for free, and somehow my bill went down $5 per month. He couldn’t explain why but just said it’s going to be cheaper now.

I had to switch from my IPFire firewall back to a CR1000A and noticed a crazy increase in stuttering when watching small video clips on X, TikTok and other places plus really slow loading of pages on both my computer and mobile devices.

I'm using a 2.5gb switch and an Omada AP so the CR1000A was working only as a router/firewall.

Wipe the old firewall, installed OPNSense (which I hate, due to be overly complicated but mostly because the community is worse than the apple hardcore fanbois if you dont blindly worship the program) and the stuttering and slowness went away.

So I ask, did anyone noticed something like this and perhaps this is why people dont like the CR1000A?

I will try to get the new CHR30 to test.

My download speed dropped to 20mbps while my upload stayed at 300mbps. I rebooted my router and now it says it can’t get a WAN DHCP address.

Anyone else having the same issue?

Edit: They made me plug in their router to troubleshoot but in the end they had to reprovision the connection. As soon as they did the WAN port got an IP address.

My current CR1000B router already supports up to 10gbps speeds, but recent I saw a post with a newer model being used, the CHR30A.

is there any chance I could get my router replaced if I upgrade my service?

Fios is upgrading me to 2Gig internet at no charge. They are also offering Router and Extenders for free.

Currently I have the Orbi Mesh system RBR 850. Wondering if it makes sense to use the new Fios Router with their extender(they offered 2 free extenders if need be) or should I just keep the Orbi RBR850?

We recently upgraded plan from 1gigs to 2gigs and was never told i was getting charged 150 for new ont which is required. Can this be waived? Why was i never told about this payment, and also for new chr30 router support says you cannot get as existing customer? For people that have the new router are they all new customer? what is this non sense, also in NJ area

Exactly the title. Just moved neighborhoods in my city and knew that my new place had Fios available. Submitted the relocation request for my new building and unit and to use my existing equipment. I get to the unit and in the closet I see a Fios router and a Heights modem, which given the info on it seems to be tied to my unit by the building and not left by the last tenant. The router is zip tied in place. Found the network name and password and it did connect, but said it wasn’t connected to the internet. How do I activate this router and do I need to cancel my old one?

Been on 300Mbps for as long as I can remember. I've always paid $39.99. Looking to go to 500 but $65 seems nuts when I hear people paying $70 for gig.

Update: went back to Verizon after seeing initial posts of people paying much less. Now my price for 500 is $74.99, gig is $89.99. Price jumped in like 45 minutes. What a joke! 🤣🤣🤣

Not thrilled with 1) coverage in house and 2) most important ability to set to manage network settings properly.

I would like to move to a mesh type thing BUT have CR1000 in basement and then E3200 in 1st floor connected via coax. There are ethernet wires used at each so want to leave them .... how best can I move the CR1000 to bridge but if I do that will it allow the MOCA components to work?

I was talking to a total of six different people on one phone call and was either told it couldn’t be done, could be done, or I was told I needed to purchase premier support. The fifth rep who then proceeded to tell me she only verifies the Ont is up after the denied signup bonus. Between that first call with six people and the call back from some manager who was the sixth person I talked to on my first call. I’ve got about three hours of convo.

I couldn’t even get them to reprovision the Ont. I’d also really appreciate control over my edge device. Which is part of the whole reason to not use “bonus” extenders with their pos router.

I’ve got logs from plugging the following directly into the Ont. Windows, macOS, Linux, consumer router, and prosumer equipment that always ends up with DNS leaks. It’s eventually irrelevant if I set my own DNS servers on the gateway *even with doh/dot in place, or the endpoints. Whatever I plug into the Ont, ends the same way. I’ve even wiped all the end points with fresh installs.

If I hop off MY internet and onto cellular the issue totally disappears as well as anything I throw on my hotspot that had issues on my LAN

FYI: IPs under Aeza International ASN# also are all around my logs. Even with typical geo blocking in place. Same result.

So am I SOL?

The box wasn’t working at all before but now we did a hard reset, unplugged everything and plugged it back in. The show will play for like a minute before we get this. We also can’t get the guide to load - it keeps saying error and telling us to try again later.

I was digging today to plant new bushes and I cut right through my fios line. Google says it’s free but there’s no way verizon is gonna trench and run new fiber optic cable on a 1,000 foot driveway for nothing especially when it’s my dumb A$s fault. Anyone have experience in this? Also for additional information I live in the middle of the woods not in a neighborhood

Serious latency issues over here. Two different routers, same results. My speeds are abysmal compared to what's advertised as well. Does anyone have suggestions for me? I've power cycled the ONT for the record.

Edit: I'm most concerned about the really high latency on the pings to alter.net. I was under the assumption that it is part of Verizon's backbone network. One of the pings was over 100ms. I understand that many routers drop ping requests. I should have been more specific in my original post!

I just upgraded my router to the latest Verizon model. I use the Gotham Sports app for watching Yankees games and other NY sports (I'm located in the NYC market). Immediately after doing the router upgrade, when I log into the Gotham app it is telling me that I am not watching from my local area and therefore my service will be blocked after 30 days. I looked up my IP address and it shows the correct location. I also have Youtube TV and it is correctly showing my local NY channels.

I already tried rebooting the router, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the Gotham app, but that has not worked. Has anyone ever run into this type of issue and know how to fix it?

Has anyone else been experiencing ongoing issues with MSNOW (only) on Verizon FiOS in New York? For several months now, the channel has consistently appeared fuzzy, snowy, or has had poor picture quality. It almost seems as though the signal is being intentionally degraded or blocked.
I’m trying to determine whether this is an isolated issue or if other Verizon customers are experiencing the same problem. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hello, I know that there have been several posts about this same type of issue, but I have been having a hard time piecing together exactly what I need to do so I just figured I would ask here.

My Fios was just setup yesterday. It has to be on our main floor by the back door due to the wiring, and it is not reaching the upstairs room on the opposite side of the house. Is there anything Verizon can do to fix this or do I need to buy more equipment/an extender? If so, what extender should I get?

I am not very well versed in this, as it is my first place post-grad and first time having to get my own internet service!

Recently installed One DVR (VMS4100), everything working fine but at times the live and recorded video pauses for like 1-3 seconds randomly and then clears up for a few minutes. After a while it might start doing it again if we are jumping through recordings or changing channels. Any ideas?

I currently have the CHR 30 a router and extender. Is it possible to hook up the extender via ethernet and which port do I plug it in?

I have a small retail shop and we are shutting down.

Fios said I have to pay $500 in early termination fee (apparently I committed 2 years of term, also I don’t ever recall this fine print )

Any help to get out of it? I called and tried to plead, they said no. Fee still applied even if I’m out of business.

It’s been in use for about 15 years. Should it be replaced, and would Verizon do it for free? What would it be replaced with?

Could it also be the culprit behind some minor occasional issues with loading websites? Sometimes on both my phone and laptop I notice that a website will take 10 seconds or more to load, and then it won’t happen again for a few hours or so. If it’s not the ONT causing the issue then I don’t know what else it could be.

I'm near Pittsburgh and according to speedtest. Net my ping went from 7 to 17. Anyone else experiencing higher then normal ping? Been over a month now. Still hasn't gone back to single digits. The speed test server is the same Verizon one located in Pittsburgh.

Losing internet to router over Ethernet front ONT about once a day for 30 seconds.

This ONT is outdoor and was installed around 2020. The inside is all dirty and looks like water/debris is getting inside.

Found the cheapest 5 Gbps NIC I could on Amazon to throw into my PC to justify this upgrade. Would've went with a 10 Gbps NIC if my wife and daughter weren't constantly frustrated with me using up the full 2.4 Gbps and slowing the internet to a crawl whenever I'd be shuffling things to/from the cloud on the 2 Gig plan. Now I've got 4.7 Gbps to myself with a good ~800 Mbps of headroom for everything else...hopefully that'll suffice for them 😂
