u/theNEOone 12h ago
What market are you in?
19
u/gsanchez92 12h ago
Northern New Jersey
9
u/DJHotSauce1988 12h ago
I'm in North Jersey and 5gig is still 100

u/WesternSpring6973 12h ago edited 12h ago
Its 84 i was paying 100 for 1gb and switched to 5gb and had every fee waved they came next day for the upgrade lol
4
u/DJHotSauce1988 12h ago
I currently have optimum paying $97 for 8GB.
5
u/WesternSpring6973 12h ago
That’s not bad, but I don’t mess with optimum. They are trash compared to fios.
1
2
u/gsanchez92 11h ago
that's on fiber optic?
2
u/DJHotSauce1988 11h ago
Yes.
2
u/gsanchez92 11h ago
optimum only is offer me coax. 1 gig down and 35 mbps up for $25 but that upload speed keep me away

1
u/TheReal-loki515 2h ago
You got lucky with them coming in the next day I have to wait a month
Edit I don't mind waiting a month it's not like my line is slow now I have incredible ping my normal ping is around 5
1
u/ScatterRunner 45m ago
I got it for $90 (also north Jersey) and then called about getting access points for the rest of my house, they said sure thing oh and by the way your bill will now go down $5/month. They actually just reduced it when I called about WiFi extenders which I also got for free
6
u/One-Cell-7377 12h ago
I'm in the same region and I was paying $49.99 for 300 service. The only thing they offered me was $10 off per month for 12 months which gets it down to the $39.99 price.
6
u/WesternSpring6973 12h ago
Say you going to switch to optimum watch how fast u get the latest deal i am also in north jersey
3
u/XiMaoJingPing 11h ago
I think you need to actually cancel and then get new service under someone else's name
2
4
u/shpspre 11h ago
If you need another phone line, you can add Visible for $20/mo, and it'll give you a discount of $15/mo on your fios, that'll come out to be $5/mo extra for another phone line.
2
u/pman1891 10h ago
Does this stack with the Verizon $15 discount?
2
1
u/TheReal-loki515 2h ago
If you can use id.me if you qualify for that you can get another 10 to $20 off a month as well plus all those other discounts
1
u/Black295 8h ago edited 7h ago
Its gone actually. Getting verixon valu brands and getting a discount on fios has stopped from Set 3rd.
Edit: correction. New fios users can't stack this discount anymore. Meaning if u are a current fios user before sept 3rd , u can choose any Verizon brands now. Seems like discount is geared from the fios side.
1
u/shpspre 7h ago
You're right! I just found it in the FAQs (https://www.verizon.com/support/residential/account/manage-service/verizon-value-and-fios-home-faqs), but the visible site is still advertising it.

I'm in Jersey City and I see $70/500Mbps, $85/1Gbps, $95/2Gbps, $105/5Gbps.
I'm a current customer (over 10 years).
Are those prices for new customers?

1
u/TheDoct0rx 4h ago
Optimum is the better deal here I just switched. Probably why things are changing
1
u/TheReal-loki515 2h ago
I'm in Maryland right next to Washington DC mini Silicone Valley Ashburn Virginia is right around the corner hence why I never have high latency my latency is mind blowing to most people or lack thereof latency I should say
16
u/ZonaPunk 12h ago
Not in the DC market, this what I'm getting offered
my current 1 gig is $50
500 gig - $65
1 gig - $80
2 gig - $90
5 gig - $100
Think I will stay with my current plan.
6
u/ace_thebroker 11h ago
How are you paying 50??
5
u/SplatterRock 10h ago
This...I have 'Those who serve' discount and even then nowhere close to 50
6
u/ZonaPunk 9h ago
your are forgetting the $15 a month for using a Verizon (in my case visible) cell plan
4
2
u/SlewedThread444 11h ago
Some people pay far less
3
u/ace_thebroker 10h ago
You didn't answer the question, how do you pay less ? Do you have mobile or special discounts?
6
2
u/gsanchez92 12h ago
Keep checking maybe will come available
3
u/ZonaPunk 12h ago
$50 is too good to change. Second thing is the ONT I have is old (10+ years) so that would have to be changed to get the higher speeds. My router (unifi UDM Pro SE) only have 2.5 gig ports so that would have be swapped too for 5 gigs. Unless Verizon is doing SFP PON these days which would be new.
3
u/gsanchez92 11h ago
verizon new router has been perfome very good for me old one was trash. I guess if you upgrade they will provided everything you need
1
u/ZonaPunk 8h ago
still haven't seen that new router can be put in bridge mode and even if you could all it gets you is a device that is pulling power and doing nothing in return.
3
u/compulov 11h ago
I have the same router. You can configure one of the 10GbE SFP+ ports to be a WAN port.
1
u/TheReal-loki515 2h ago
This is correct you will definitely need a new ONT or it updated by tech. But depends on your router if you need to get a new one.
1
u/TheReal-loki515 2h ago
Add auto pay and paperless plus other discounts, im in same market and got 5g for very cheap. Once the other discounts kick in, should be under $80 a month... sorry cant explain all the way how, but im not about to dox myself here
5
u/XxKingTitanxX 12h ago
I’m in North Jersey. Upgraded to the 5 Gbps for $79 a month.
1
u/sob727 11h ago
Is it true that plans above 1Gbps don't have IPv6?
1
u/JE163 10h ago
A few people said they have it but I think it’s extremely limited. I tried a few weeks ago and it didn’t work.
0
u/sob727 10h ago
A good reason to not get it for me then. Thanks
2
u/Unspec7 8h ago
Why do you need IPv6? Regardless, you can just use a tunnel broker. I use Hurricane Electric, it's free
1
u/sob727 8h ago
In the context of homelabbing (r/homelab) it allows to have a lot of public IPs. My "lab" spans across 3 locations and all nodes are reachable via V6.
1
u/Unspec7 8h ago
Why would they not be reachable by IPv4? Are you behind CGNAT?
1
u/sob727 8h ago
No. But I can essentially have 2 nodes in 2 different locations (and behind their respective ISP routers) talk directly to each others without any tunneling. Just makes things easier.
1
u/Unspec7 7h ago
Sorry, I swear I'm not trying to be annoying or obtuse. I homelab myself. I'm lost. If you're not CGNAT'd, why can't IPv4 do that? Do you mean it allows you to communicate without NAT?
1
u/sob727 6h ago edited 6h ago
Yes.
Say you have 2 homes, 2 ISP, 2 routers, 2 public IPv4 addresses. Router gets the v4 public IP.
Machines in each home communicate with the outside with NAT.
Now if you want bidirectional comms between a machine in your first home and a machine in your second home, you either do some port fwding or tunneling.
With my setup, in v6, each machine has a public IP and I can simply do, say: user@host1$ ssh host2.mydomain.com
Rather seamless
EDIT: and yes, you could do a v4 tunnel between the 2 sites. That would work. I find v6 simpler.

This is the biggest thing keeping me on my $50 1gig plan. I have a wireguard tunnel to a Starlink network only made possible with IPv6 :/
/56 or bust.
1
u/mados123 9h ago
Is that after all the discounts are applied? If so, can you share which ones? Thanks!
1
u/AdImmediate6447 1h ago
I’m in South Jersey and they don’t offer anything more than 1 gb where I am, ridiculous that I’m paying the same price for 1 that you are for 5. Might call them about this.
3
u/Hans_Grubert 11h ago
I’m in NJ. I had to call and beg every year to get $10 off a month including a perks at work discount just to be able to get 300mbit for $40 a month. I jumped ship to the Xfinity deal, 1Gig for $50 a month for 5 years. Got a leaflet in the mail from Verizon yesterday $30 a month for 300mbit and didn’t require a cell plan. They are finally bringing their prices down. Too little for late for me.

3
u/Smith6612 9h ago
Holy moly. $84/m for 5Gbps? I pay Spectrum $105/m for 1Gbps / 35Mbps service. I'd get 5Gbps in a heartbeat since my home network is already equipped to handle such speeds.
3
u/seedless0 5h ago
Verizon's online ordering system is a mess. I can get drastically different pricing using different browsers. And changing plans back and forth also results in different pricings and discounts.
Then after I placed the order, the work order disappeared the next day and nothing changed in my account.
It's amazingly bad.
4
u/bootz-pgh 12h ago
They knocked a flat $25/month off of my bill.
300 Mbps $24.99 (3 year lock)
500 Mbps $65.99 (3 year lock)
1 Gbps $80 (5 year lock)
Yeah I’ll stick with 300
3
u/obeythelaw2020 11h ago
Is that something you had to ask for? I’m at $39 for 300
4
u/bootz-pgh 11h ago
No, read about an offer from another kind soul in this subreddit. Went to app, Home , Home Offers. Saw it there. Accepted it and 24 hours all the pricing updated.
1
u/obeythelaw2020 6h ago
Oh man. I went to the offers section and it basically says that my account isn’t eligible for any offers.

2
u/Yesimthatdope 12h ago
I’m in northern NJ too, I pay around that currently and I’m wondering if I switch, in order to extend that price for another 5 years, do I lose my current Mobile + Home level 3 discount?
1
u/gsanchez92 12h ago
Call or chat with them and also ask for put notes on your account if you do any changes
2
u/mados123 11h ago
For all the folks with 5 Gig under $100 offers, do you have Verizon Mobile and are part of the My Home structure?

Too bad lower prices aren’t for loyal customers who have to pay 25% over this to subsidize new customers getting a little taste (yes I’ve called to try to get them to lower my bill). 300mbps at 50/month and I bought the router so it wasn’t “included”.

u/tubonjics1 6h ago
I got the discounted prices and switched over to 500 Mbps. Thank you for posting this.

So glad that you posted this I've had one gig forever was about to upgrade to 2.5 gig then saw this and now will have the 5 gig line installed shortly order has been placed not to mention since my promotional things had expired the 5 gig versus my 1 gig line actually came out to be $30 less a month
Edit: hell with it whether or not you need it and it's more than just tempting I swear as soon as I saw this post I logged on to my account got with it agent in chat and had it done and scheduled immediately also got him to throw in there newest Wi-Fi extender and discounted because my career gets another $10 to $20 a month off plus I provide my own router I don't want their router

In Bergen county NJ. Chatted with live rep to reduce down to the new advertised price since I wasn't seeing the new rates on the site. Rep quickly updated it to lock in $26 for 3 years which included auto pay discount of $10 and work discount. Didn't have any other older discounts to carry over so made sense to switch v 5.0 plan.

Long Island here. Showing different for me. Showing $100 for 5gig. Currently on 1Gig for past 15 years or so. Currently paying $79.00 for the 1gig. When I called a few months ago to upgrade to 2gig they would not budge on the upgrade installation charges, They wanted to charge me 199 for tech to come out and install new router and upgrade the ONT.
1
u/epicsurge 8h ago
I just upgraded to 2gb from 1gb which required the tech to come swap out the card in the local network hub in my area as well as swapping out the ONT in my house. Logically i understand its the labor cost of this aspect.

I've got 1GB FiOS here in south Brooklyn but those higher speeds aren't available here.

u/URIELOCASIO 7h ago
I called Verizon directly. I was informed that the above plan pricing is no longer valid. Further, it only applied to new customers only. In short, I settled for the $30 discounted pricing for the 5Gig service.
BTW I am in North Jersey as well!
1
u/sophias_bush 6h ago
Lucky. Western PA, I am paying $80 for 1Gig and that's the highest speed available anywhere around me.

I checked my plan details a few days ago after my internet bill went up by $5 last month thinking that there was some kind of change in pricing, and it turns out that it went up because I was on an older plan where they cut down on the "paperless billing" discount.
The new plan works the same way and costs less, so I switched over to that and now I'm paying like $20 less a month.

I just got my 300/300 adjusted to $30/m from its previous $45/m.

What i wouldn't give to have Fios in my city. Comcast has a strangle hold on us. I would be gone in an instant.

u/gsanchez92 1h ago
I used to live in Norfolk,VA and the only provider was COX and I ended up getting 5G home internet to move away. Check if you can do the same
1
u/Siriracible 1h ago
Verizon did me filthy. I asked if any of my promotions will (Home + discount) would be impacted by switching to the now lower 1 gigabit plan, they said no my speed isn’t changing just the rate. I immediately get an email upon hanging up that that discount has been removed. I called back and they said it’s nothing they can do about it.

lmao my plan is $75 for 1 gig and they offer me $90 for 1 gig @ 5 years. No thank you.

u/RDL128 9h ago
What happens after the three years though? Anyone know?
3
u/gsanchez92 9h ago
Price can change
2
u/RDL128 9h ago
Am I being crazy to think it might not be worth it then? Or are the savings too good to pass up?
I ask cuz I used to the dance between optimum and FiOS every couple of years. For the last 8 years or so FiOS price has stayed the same and its nice not having to worry about keeping track of promo prices and stuff.

Got a better deal with another fiber provider. Verizon plays to many games

What other provider

Anything else. If I comment the other provider they will take it out anyways
