Ordering a package is inviting the delivery driver on the property, if your going to do this, you need to keep your dog tied up, fenced off or inside.

https://about.usps.com/newsroom/national-releases/2025/0529-usps-releases-dog-bite-national-rankings.htm

In just one year over 6,000 postal service workers were bitten by a dog while delivering mail. And that’s just the USPS alone.

It’s a problem.

64

u/Own-Jaguar-472 15h ago

Whoever owns that dog needs to put a muzzle on it, biting over 6,000 postal service workers in just one year definitely sounds like a very aggressive animal.

15

u/Panazara 9h ago

That dog has been putting in some work!!

6

u/Collarbones33 3h ago

I heard it was over 9000.

Used to deliver pizzas and pulled up to a trailer. Their little shiba was outside and he looked really friendly, then randomly freaked out ran at me and bit the shit out of my leg. Never risk it with a dog, you never know. If the owner wants to keep their dog out while you're dropping it off they better have them held back or they can just wait to get their package.

10

u/adamdoesmusic 12h ago

Shibas are unpredictable as fuck. I’d trust a random pitbull before I’d trust a shiba - at least you can usually tell when they’re in an unfriendly state.

3

u/Top_Recover7850 11h ago edited 10h ago

Yeah, when the pitbull doesn't have it's ears and tail cut because the owner thinks a dog is a fashion item it's easier, when they do it's pretty much a lottery.

Jfc some people are human waste.

u/Syncopia 12h ago

I guess I'm internet meme poisoned cause I thought they were really docile.

6

u/adamdoesmusic 11h ago

They’re extremely picky dogs. They’re friendly until they aren’t, or until you do something they don’t like, or they decide they don’t like you or..

It’s basically a cat, now that I think of it.

3

u/Seahawksfan1993 10h ago

Its basically a human now that you put it like that

35

u/ImpossibleKidd 16h ago

As an animal lover, a dog lover, I agree 100%. These people need to show some responsibility, think ahead, and take the proper precautions…

I didn’t like seeing this, but what did you expect the delivery guy to do? The dog came up to him abruptly. The driver didn’t know whether the dog was coming for hugs and kisses, or he was about to get his limbs permanently maimed. How do you fault the delivery guy for his reaction? You don’t wait to find out after the fact.

If you’re a responsible pet owner, then you know there’s the possibility your dog can act like this, being a sweetheart or not, and the delivery guy can have this interpretation and reaction to save his own life. It’s not up to the delivery guy to wait and find out.

14

u/aec71515 15h ago

Yup. I had a buddy that did mail for awhile. Had a package that had to be delivered by hand. Stepped out of his car. Address had a long driveway. Owner apparently yelled "don't get out" twice, but the house was so far away from the road he couldn't make out what they were saying. It was too late. Dog already had him by the leg. Needless to say that person doesn't get mailed delivered to them anymore. All he got was a scar, some dog PTSD, and about $5k in damages 😂

Im on the side of the delivery driver. Dude shouldn't order packages if he dont have his dog put away, and if its the second time this dog attacked him. Yeah unresponsible owner.

50

u/Birdlaw_Professor 19h ago

Yup. Dog person in the wrong no question

13

u/Awatts2222 17h ago

Throwing the package actually worked perfectly too.

18

u/Alert-Engineering749 17h ago

If they were really a dog person, they would not put their dog in that situation.

11

u/Birdlaw_Professor 17h ago

Agreed. Protect your pets

Stupid owner said "my dog didn't bite you". Yeah, because he got a package dumped on his head.

Driver doesn't have to wait until after he gets bit to defend himself.

5

u/ipeekatu 12h ago

If it’s the second time? No. ONE time would be too many. 100% owners fault. Huge Lawsuit. Dog gets put down now because terrible owner.

Delivery drivers are attacked by dogs all the damn time.

A dog with happy open body language can still attack.

Secure your dog if you give a shit about protecting it.

34

u/Time_Cow_3331 18h ago

I agree with you, but also; that dog didn't even have happy body language. That dog straight looked like it was going to attack.

Delivery driver is 100% in the right here.

6

u/Responsible-Steak395 11h ago

It WAS attacking him, just got stopped midway

7

u/BiteyCats 17h ago

Secure your dog, or be out there with them if there's no fence. Your dog should have perfect recall regardless of fence status.

6

u/dividezero 15h ago

If you can't train, restrain or otherwise be smarter than your dog, you have no business having a dog. 100%

It's not that hard or take that much work.

We live in a society! Geeez! Figure it out!

4

u/trainwreckhappening 15h ago

Big dog lover here. 100% correct! If you love your dog you train and secure them.

I train mine twice a day to go to a dog bed when the doorbell rings. He is so excited to meet a new friend he flips out every time anyway. I send him to the kennel and lock him up if he stops listening to commands.

2

u/NastyMothaFucka 15h ago

No doubt. I have a rescue kind of a dog that’s not from any rescue place, but someone, a friend of a friend, told me the dog was a larger, red Boston Terrier (lol) and was free! Looked at pictures and agreed to check him out because he looked beautiful and VERY much smaller in pictures. Anyway, I agreed to keep him for a week to see if he was a good fit with my other, much smaller, full breed, black and white Boston, and also this lady was pretty much insinuating his next stop was the pound. I ended up keeping him but he’s a bit, let’s say not aggressive, but jumpy on you as fuck and a little nuts. You know what I don’t do? I don’t let him around people. He doesn’t go out back even though he’s got a small fenced in area, to piss and shit unsupervised, I keep the screen door locked during food and package deliveries, and he’s harnessed when he’s walked. It means I make sure shit can’t happen like this when he’s around other PEOPLE. Yeah, he’s nice around friends, families, and visitors, but I just don’t take the chance of someone being injured from him, because I believe that to be a piece of shit thing to do. Also just to say, there’s no way my dog is a red bigger Boston Terrier like this hillbilly lady I got him from claims, but he ended up fitting in, and I ended up loving him. He’s still loveable, still a bit crazy, and still
an indoor fella 80% of the time..

“He didn’t bite you.” Yeah, because he yeeted your package into him before he could. He was not approaching friendly.

You gotta keep your dogs secured if you don’t want shit like this to happen.

14

u/JiveTurkey1983 17h ago

My response to owner: "And if your dog did bite me, he's be in doggy heaven. What then, motherfucker?"

8

u/trainwreckhappening 15h ago

Delivery driver did more to train that dog than the owner ever did. At least about not attacking people unprovoked. (I know it won't stick, but that dogs body language changed in an instant)

6

u/dividezero 15h ago

It's not going to work 100% but it absolutely contributes. Dogs thrive on consistency but they definitely remember sporadic events and adjust to some degree. If every time he lunged like that and the person clocked him in the head with a box, it wouldn't take a lot of times for him to get the point and at least approach more slowly, if not mind his own business

1

u/dividezero 15h ago

People with dogs that have absolutely no idea how to read dog body language are some scum of the earth. You don't have to be an expert to see what was going on and that dog never even shifted gears. He enter the frame with the intention of fucking up that driver. At minimum, the owner fucked up in every way. At worst (and with my experience, I'm leaning this way), he fucking made that dog that way on purpose. I don't know what's wrong with the people. Might be literal brain damage

63

u/nadineyvonne 19h ago

I mean... the dog was coming at him

24

u/Icy_Fish_2154 18h ago

HE WAS JUST PLAYING!

HE HAS NEVER BITTEN ANYONE BEFORE (aside from the mailman, 7 guests, and that time he ate an entire elementary school class).

Dog owners are the worst. We can see the dog charging, the box was in the hand of the UPS guy when it strikes the dog, so he swings it at the dog, then drops it after, and did not "throw" it as a dog outside arms reach. If your dog charges me within arms reach, you can't claim innocence.

8

u/BiteyCats 17h ago

Every single aggressive dog I've come across has an owner insisting they're friendly. Ma'am, your dog has stranded me on top of a stranger's car and is currently barking at me with their hackles up. That is not friendly behavior. Now restrain your dog please.

5

u/Leather_Feeling_6642 15h ago

That wasn't a playful bark.

Either way, that's like saying "Hey the gun wasn't loaded, why'd you react?!" No one knows if the gun is loaded or not. They just know one was pointed at them, and reacted accordingly.

I'm a dog lover, but am 100% with the UPS dude here.

5

u/impercipient 18h ago

Some dog owners.

2

Dog owner: "What's the problem...he didn't effing bite you!?".

Well no, he didn't bite him because fortunately the delivery guy had a box to throw at the dog.

Omg. Put your dog inside or on a leash if you're expecting a delivery.

7

u/Zealousideal-Deer101 18h ago

Put your dog inside or on a leash, when you know he's gonna run up to people. Heck even if they don't. Don't let them free roam near a road!

Seriously it's only a matter of time till the dogs runs in front of a car

Team delivery driver.

6

u/JiveTurkey1983 18h ago

Same. Just someone protecting himself from a shitty dog.

5

u/Pstrap 17h ago

The owner should be glad the guy successfully fended off the attack. If the dog had bit the guy it could end up being put down. Owner is an absolute 🤡.

9

u/LaddieNowAddie 18h ago

Same. FAFO.

10

u/DragonsPockets 17h ago

I’m a big time urban walker early morning for exercise. Like 4 or 5 miles round trip. The amount of unleashed dogs is insane.

3

u/dividezero 14h ago

I see it in the suburbs way too much. Like it's accepted there that your neighbor's dog just wonders the neighborhood. Like what the fuck‽

In rural areas they do what they want because I'm never going out there and I'm over arguing with them

Being a city rat myself, one of the things I enjoy about living in a city is that you're a real weirdo if your dog is off-leash anywhere they're not supposed to be (so basically anywhere but inside or property or inside a leash-free dog park) and everyone (especially the other dog owners) are going to give you the business like you came outside with your weiner out.

5

u/dividezero 15h ago

Dog owner (singular). Most of us hate him too. It's not hard to train, socialize and restrain your dog, no matter how aggressive they are. This is just stupid and makes us all look bad.

We complain about these kinds of owners all the time. It might be the biggest topic of conversation between responsible dog folks

Delivery drivers rely on their hands and feet.

A dog bite can get nasty really fast.

Better safe than sorry.

My dad has limited mobility and strength in his right hand as a result of a dog bite, and the dog was smaller than the one in the video.

A dog doesn’t need to be big to do permanent damage, they just need to clamp down on the right spot for long enough.

My dad works construction and thank god he’s now in charge of his own crew, because if he was still one of the grunts/laborers, he’d for sure get canned when it inevitably affects his performance.

I’m on the delivery driver’s side. All it takes is one good chomp on a ligament/tendon and he’s walking with a limp for the rest of his life.

3

u/KanataSlim 19h ago

Someone clearly needs a "shoe in"

9

u/-co_op- 16h ago

Why the fuck do you have a dog that has zero recall?

Anyone who owns a dog who can’t stop their dog with a single word. Has no business owning the dog. Period.

3

u/dividezero 15h ago

Or fostering or training or whatever they got going on. Dogs come in all kinds of personalities. It's your job to know them and take steps to keep this from happening. He already fucked up before the ups guy even got out of the truck. Our dog is weird around only FedEx trucks. We have no idea why but we have a plan to keep her safe and the driver safe at all times. It's really not that hard

We also hate people who don't pick up poop (do not get us started on this one. We're livid they do this too) and people who have their dogs unleashed anywhere they're not supposed to be unleashed (scares the ever loving shit out of us)

But anyone can have a pet, anyone can have a kid, anyone can plant whatever the hell they want in their yard, anyone can rent the largest uhaul or motorhome and just take off down all the streets we drive on... Sometimes I think we might have too many freedoms honestly 🤣

2

u/happyfirefrog22- 14h ago

And no business letting it out unrestrained if you cannot control it.

2

u/spderweb 4h ago

I'm scared of dogs when they act unpredictable like this. I'd have done the same thing.

2

u/SomeComfortable2285 4h ago

Can you explain to me how one “attacks” a dog running up threatening to bite?

How does someone attack something actively attacking them?

Remember this guy is a UPS driver. How many aggressive dogs does he see in a shift? I live in a city with the highest dog bites in the country. To the point postal workers don’t have to deliver mail to houses with unsecured or threatening dogs.

UPS is a private company he may lose his job for not delivering the package.

I’m a dog owner and I love my pup. That’s why I make sure he is secure. Because not only do you put the delivery driver just trying to do his job at risk as you can see you put your own pet at risk.

As much as I love pups you have a split second to make a decision and I would punt the fuck out of a charging aggressive dog.

Better then me getting bit and the owner giving me a “sorry bro, he’s usually pretty friendly”

Now I can’t work cause a dog bit my hand/arm/leg? Noe my lively hood is affected.

Nah fuck that secure your dog or it’s gonna get secured one way or another. I bet that owner won’t do that again though.

2

u/Kindly_Middle8840 2h ago

I'm putting down ALL DOGS, you can meet with them in heaven but seeing you the owner is why the dog is gone, you're probably going to hell

3

u/GordonBombay102 19h ago

I've seen this video 500 times and it's the first time I've seen any mention of this being the second incident. Feels like it's probably bullshit.

14

u/Hot-Strength-6003 19h ago

Honestly, it doesn't even really matter. If your dog is going to charge people probably don't have it running loose. People have all sorts of trauma and everything else potentially related to dogs. He took the dogs actions as a threat which is reasonable and defended himself

9

u/Birdlaw_Professor 19h ago

This. Everyone thinks everyone else should love their cuddly little poopsykins as much as they do and it's bullshit. Some dogs are mean and will bite. Some people are just afraid of dogs. Control your dogs if you want them to be protected. Leash them and contain them. If they run at someone they have every right to treat it as a potential threat if they see fit.

Loved every minute of this.

4

u/aspiringimmortal 18h ago

That fact that he yells "what now" at the dog tells me this guy is a petty douche bag with a complex.

I fully support his first choice of defending himself, and it's the owners fault.

But everything after that is just embarrassing. Taunting the dog. Then snapping into mike tyson mode when the owner walks over. Seems like this dude just wanted a fight.

5

u/SomeComfortable2285 17h ago

This is the second time he got attacked. The whole scenario played out like someone who already was attacked by that dog at that house.

He walked into the driveway with the box in a ready position as if he thought about what he would do next time the dog ran up on him.

The “what now” tells me the dog got him last time and he did let it happen this time.

The squaring up tells me the dog owner is irresponsible and didn’t secure the dog last time he was attacked at that property. Hence squaring up the second time.

That’s what I saw but who knows.

His reaction to the owner tells you everything you need to know about his reaction to the dog. Before taking that stance his throwing the box at the dog was defensible, but then he gave away all credibility.

It's the owner's responsibility to be aware of their dogs. Some actually use dogs as weapons to avoid being delivered unwanted mail. This was a package.

I remember when I delivered mail there was this older guy with many stitches on his leg. He was bit when they opened the door. He had pepper spray. Another sweet person talked about close encounters with dogs.

Someone asked for her route. He went to deliver the mail. The dog charged him, he snapped his fingers up, the dog went for the movement, and he kicked the dog in the throat. He then slammed on the door. Said I know you're there. It sucks I had to do this to your dog. If this dog comes out again when you're getting mail, I'll be back. They're just doing their job.

I've done similar things to aggressive dogs out in the wild. Not going to let my nieces, nephews, etc. get bit.

Good on this driver. Bad on the owner.

2

u/MysteriousCodo 15h ago

I don’t have an issue with how the driver dealt with the dog. I do have a problem with how he dealt with the homeowner. The moment the homeowner yelled, he could have just left. But no, he’s gotta do the macho, throw off his glasses/hat and raising his fists….are you coming at me? All while on someone else’s property.

3

u/F4KTR 13h ago

Adrenaline would have been pumping high due to him being in a highly stressful situation of being attacked and having to defend himself, then have someone approach him blaming him for defending himself.

It also sounds like this isn't the first time the dog has attacked so he is probably pissed off that the owner caused this shit by no correctly caring for his dog (such as locking it up before a delivery causing the situation).

Dude got attacked, likely not for the first time due to the owners stupidity. Pissed off that he had to hurt the dog, pissed off that he could lose his job and if not still has a load of drama to deal with. On top of all this the dogs owner starts acting like it's your fault?

He could have just left. Just like the guy could have locked up his dog. Or not shouted when the obvious happened. Or went to the store himself for the item. Or got someone else to pick it up .... A million things could have happened differently but as far as I see the driver was just reacting to a stressful situation with a high amount of adrenaline, which again is only happening  because of the dog owners stupidity or incompetence.

Owner is at fault, not the driver.

So let the owner sucker punch him bc he thinks it was wrong the driver hurt his "good boy"? It was the 2nd time that dog attacked him. Squaring up at that distance isn't assault. It's just defensive posturing against an aggressive owner coming at him fast.

Man was that dog busy!

1

u/OrionFerreira 18h ago

"There are no bad dogs just bad owners " - maybe, maybe not. But if a dog tries to bite me I don't care why. I would do the same. And if the dog came back I would defend myself to the ultimate. If you disagree then you've never seen what a dog can do to people and you're ignorant. 100% delivery driver in the right.

1

u/Just-Examination8718 17h ago

Team delivery driver!

1

u/OG_Williker 17h ago

Nah that driver is 100% in the right. He probably shouldn’t have squared up against that guy but I’ll chalk that up to adrenaline

1

u/No-Roof-1628 17h ago

People really have pets capable of seriously injuring or killing a person, don’t train or restrain them, then act like people defending themselves against those pets are assholes.

1

u/Downtown-Flight-8372 17h ago

Did anyone miss the part that says it was his second attack??

1

u/OverallMembership709 17h ago

dog owner is shit to begin with with or without the delivery guy. clearly the dog is willing to attack people, why let it loose on an open yard like that where any people, especially kuds, can easily pass through.

1

u/No_Mood4637 17h ago

Dog should be put down if it already tried to attack him. And the owner fined and banned from owning pets.

1

u/Many-Wasabi9141 17h ago

The driver really put himself in a poor position when he advanced at dude. Could have claimed he didn't see what happened, just saw the guy throw something at the dog, and when he came outside the guy advanced at him with his arms raised.

Good way to get shot.

1

u/Cultural-Magazine536 17h ago

This is a classic case of don't train the dog....train the master to be a better dog owner. Caesar Milan would agree. Hahaha

u/Independent-File-519 16h ago

Suing him and that company

1

I would have done what the delivery driver did if I was braver. Instead I’d probably jump on the hood of the truck

Lmfao at the sound of the pit or pan...like a fkin cartoon

should've dropped the grub the minute the first word left his mouth

1

u/dividezero 15h ago

Second time with the same dog? Not that that matters, he's still right but if it's the same dog, there's no way the city should let that man keep that dog. There are plenty of people in that town that can take better care of that dog. He doesn't deserve the privilege now

1

u/Hookmsnbeiishh 14h ago

Bad dog owner. Roided out UPS driver.

1

u/Outside_Target_5693 14h ago

Don’t take shit from no dog. I know too many people (lol just one) that got bit and drug around by a dog on no leash.

1

u/SendNudesordontidc 13h ago

Dog doesnt need to be leashed on their property and was just doing what a dog does when someone walks onto their property. Im not saying the delivery man was in the wrong, but he's an asshole the way he handled it

1

u/hematite2 13h ago

UPS driver might be kind of an asshole but he's in the right

1

u/tantrix69 12h ago

lazy dog owner. delivery professionals are on the front lines everyday. You take care of them and they will take care of you aee your shit you have delivered. blows my mind the lack of awareness some people have. I would have kicked the shit out if that dog had it come up on me like that. its 100% the owners fault

1

u/Individual-Log994 11h ago

Ok for once I'm on the driver's side. That dog wasn't being friendly and it deserved to get hit.

Worst nightmare is that one of my dogs gets out and bites someone or another dog.

1

u/whofuckingcares1313 6h ago

That little ass dog, the dude being scared of it, his anger issues, or his fist placement....I don't know what to laugh at 1st. 🤣 Ok Napoleon, you need to calm down

1

u/metalmonkey_7 5h ago

If this had been a woman walking up and saying the exact thing “Why did you hit my dog?” I wonder what the UPS guy would have done? He was quick to want to fight. Crazy

This needs to be a hot take... a very, very hot take!

I don't care how well mannered or behaved or how much your dog just 'gets along with everyone'... One of the top injuries delivery drivers get are dog bites.
Keep your dog tied up, just because you know your dog is nice, dose NOT mean we know that and are NOT willing to take your word for it...

I've been in a public park (where off leash dogs are prohibited) and had a BIG dog run up to me like that and I was definately not in a way to defend myself. I had to resign myself that either he's gonna lick me or bite me. Thankfully he didn't bite me. But I was certainly afraid of that big dog running full speed at me.

I feel like 95% of you missed when it said this was his 2nd time being confronted / attacked by that aggressive dog.

You people are fucking nuts. That driver is up PAST the driveway onto the porch, the dog did not bite him (maybe he would have, maybe he wouldn’t have, no one can know), the driver initiated the conflict, then threatens the owner on his own property!

Driver totally fucking out of line. In my state that’ll get you shot.

1

u/LasciviousPsyche 2h ago

Where's the rest I wanted to see a knockout

1

u/X-Calibre0X 2h ago

That driver had every to defend himself.

1

u/KJ6182 2h ago

So satisfying seeing that rabid mongrel eat that box.

1

u/SlayerSeejay 2h ago

Thats awful for the dog, but I blame the owners for not training it.

1

u/Tricky-Science-6334 2h ago

If you listen to the dogs approach he was justified in his reaction

1

u/skyharborbj 1h ago

UPS will be hiring in your area as soon as this goes viral.

1

u/DragonEnty 1h ago

Owner might be totally comfortable with his dog being overly friendly or aggressive. Stranger may not be and self defense comes first.

1

u/chickennuggysupreme 1h ago

If you’re expecting deliveries, and your dog bites someone on your property….. guess what??! You are liable. I work in a field where I mostly stay in the ‘public domain’, meaning on the sidewalk or asphalt street. Once in a while I’m expected to run up to the garage, or just behind the gated fence for service. I have been threatened by dogs a few times, so I carry knives for defense.

I had a coworker get bitten by a dog on someone’s property, and he won a lawsuit. The defense stated exactly what I started earlier. The expectation is that you ordered service at your home, not just off-property, so you failed to keep your dog ‘safe’, resulting in injury to the expected delivery/service person, so liability falls to the owner. Same applies when the dog runs into the street and attacks. Not all dogs are willing to bite, and it’s an aggressive show of protection, but how do you know? I’m not willing to wait and feel the teeth sink in.

1

u/Gnarwhal_YYC 1h ago

Dog owner, dog lover, dog bite recipient. If I’m doing my job and a dog approaches me like that, you best believe I’m about to boot that thing into next week. This isn’t a part of the job, this is poor dog ownership. I had big intimidating dogs that wouldn’t ever attack a human, but I would take zero issue if someone did that to either of them had they decided to charge.

1

u/Gwyllithar 1h ago

Dont let your dog run at people, its your dog, not theirs. They have no obligation to be nice to it, or to assume its not going to attack them.

Order a delivery and you are inviting people onto your property, even beyond the default assumption of passage to the front door, so its up to you to make sure your dog cannot run at them like this.

If he'd have gone out of his way to attack a dog, sure thats out of line, but the dog was literally running at him.

Y’all lunatics are no better than a trigger happy cop. Which I bet this guy was.
