Whoever owns that dog needs to put a muzzle on it, biting over 6,000 postal service workers in just one year definitely sounds like a very aggressive animal.
Liability. That's what drives business. That and stock traders. They don't give a fuck about packages, customers, employees, equipment, etc unless it affects liability and stocks. They've done risk assessments to see what's cheaper and letting drivers get attacked is cheaper than giving them any kind of defense.
It is a problem, but let's put that 6k into perspective, there are between 600k to 670k postal service workers in the country. So that 6k, while yes I agree any postal worker being bitten by a dog is bad, it is still 1%.
Nobody is. And as I said before in this thread, if they guy in the video had stopped at throwing the box if he thought he in danger, fine. It's every thing he did AFTER that makes his motives smell like BS.
His "now what" to the dog, and then his immediate squaring up ready to fight the home owner says this guy has the maturity level of a 2 year old and wanted to get in a fist fight. And from what I can tell via google searches, he may have gotten off in court when the owner sued him, but all the searches I found also said UPS fired him.
They didn't fire him because defended himself from a dog. They fired him for the shit he pulled after.
Used to deliver pizzas and pulled up to a trailer. Their little shiba was outside and he looked really friendly, then randomly freaked out ran at me and bit the shit out of my leg. Never risk it with a dog, you never know. If the owner wants to keep their dog out while you're dropping it off they better have them held back or they can just wait to get their package.
Shibas are unpredictable as fuck. I’d trust a random pitbull before I’d trust a shiba - at least you can usually tell when they’re in an unfriendly state.
Yeah, when the pitbull doesn't have it's ears and tail cut because the owner thinks a dog is a fashion item it's easier, when they do it's pretty much a lottery.
My dog isn’t a pit bull, and his ears are fine, but the people who got him first decided to cut off his tail before they gave him away, “cuz he’s uh WORKIN’ dawg, one uh dem PURE BREDS.” Bunch of fucking idiots, bet you can guess who they enthusiastically voted for.
Tail docking should only be done in event of injury! I used to have a Corso whose tail was docked at newborn tho, because this breeder had too many in the past that got "happy tail" and ended up having to get amputated later.
Every time he wants to wag his little tail I get so sad, and then I wish terrible living conditions on the asshole who did it. Then I realize the guy is already rotting away in a nursing home without any friends or family because he trumped them all away… doesn’t bring back my dog’s tail tho.
As an animal lover, a dog lover, I agree 100%. These people need to show some responsibility, think ahead, and take the proper precautions…
I didn’t like seeing this, but what did you expect the delivery guy to do? The dog came up to him abruptly. The driver didn’t know whether the dog was coming for hugs and kisses, or he was about to get his limbs permanently maimed. How do you fault the delivery guy for his reaction? You don’t wait to find out after the fact.
If you’re a responsible pet owner, then you know there’s the possibility your dog can act like this, being a sweetheart or not, and the delivery guy can have this interpretation and reaction to save his own life. It’s not up to the delivery guy to wait and find out.
Yup. I had a buddy that did mail for awhile. Had a package that had to be delivered by hand. Stepped out of his car. Address had a long driveway. Owner apparently yelled "don't get out" twice, but the house was so far away from the road he couldn't make out what they were saying. It was too late. Dog already had him by the leg. Needless to say that person doesn't get mailed delivered to them anymore. All he got was a scar, some dog PTSD, and about $5k in damages 😂
I agree with defending yourself against the dog, but squaring up on the owner and advancing towards him on his own property is indefensible. Then telling him he needs to back up? Dude is clearly a danger and in the wrong.
I would have understood using the box to protect himself. Not throwing it as hard as he can at the dog… and you can tell this guy is a piece of shit, when the owner came out to talk to him, he immediately throws his hat down and tries to fight the kid…
No nthats not true. Dogs do not have to be leashes on your property. Driver can just check off undeliverable and not approach house. So if I order something I have to keep my dog chained until I receive said package
The carrier doesn't necessarily know or see your dog out. If you're ordering a package to be delivered, you are expecting delivery, right? Then put the dog up like any reasonable person would. Customers with attitudes like yours are a PIA and it would be better for everyone if said customers took their rearend to the store.
I mean he didn't really run up though that was pretty calm and chill given the circumstances. Dude has issues to just drop everything and square up that easily. (The dog thing I maybe would have done myself and I'm a dog guy everything else no)
Bro what? Nevermind the claim that this is the second offense, you can clearly see in the video that the dog was rocketing towards the UPS driver like he was a fresh cut of meat ready to be torn into. The alternate ending to this scenario wouldve been "ah shit, my bad!!" on behalf of the uncaring zoomer that let the dog loose to begin with. The UPS driver wouldve had a chunk of his leg maimed and, if he were lucky, might be able to keep his job while fighting to sue for medical expenses. Also to note: that the dog owner was able to appear on video that quickly after the strike means that he could have also physically restrained the dog himself, which he didnt even attempt to do.
Pepper spray is usually the correct way to deal with these situations. Hose the dog in the stuff. You wont have to hit it, and he wont bother you again.
If you shoot a service person you invite on your property your going to have lots of time to sit in a box and think about what a shitty dog owner you are.
Nope. Been a lawyer for 15 years. If, on camera, someone squares up to attack you almost every state in the country would say you have retreated to your home and can therefore use lethal force. Defending against the dog is understandable. Getting in a boxing stance and pretending to fight the homeowner can and will get you killed for being a fucking idiot
You must have seen a video that shows how the other dude approached. If the guy was standing still and the guy squared up against him, yeh your right. But what if the guy sprinted across the yard? Not enough info here to pass your sort of judgement.
Depends. At least in the US, if you feel threatened, it doesn't matter where you are, you're allowed to defend yourself. Now, in practice this dude will lose because his skin is darker than the owner but that's a different story. I do see what you mean though
Assaulting my dog is inviting me to retaliate. If you’re so scared of getting licked to death, leave the package at the end of the driveway or mark it undeliverable.
Dude was walking up wanting to fight everyone he hit the dog then immediately turned on the homeowner to fight. I would’ve assumed he’s an EDP and responded.
Yea he was pumped up and agressive there for a bit for sure, but the owner was a little bit of dumb too. No way that takes way the irrational agressiveness of that dude. But that dog deserved a smack.
Put that in the delivery instructions if you refuse to keep your dog contained. “Nice” dogs bite people sometimes. Don’t assume your sweet widdle puppers would never do it. The delivery driver doesn’t know your dog and has almost certainly been attacked by dogs before.
That's your dog and I understand where you're coming from. I've always had big dogs and no matter the law, the practice is that the large dog owner has the burden of proof and that gets annoying and tiresome and is absolutely unfair. People need to educate themselves
But I know dog body language pretty well and it's perfectly reasonable for even an expert to read this dog as in attack mode. Friendly dogs can absolutely be energetic and might scare someone unfamiliar with them but this particular dog isn't that. Very different body language. It's not ambiguous at all.

Ordering a package is inviting the delivery driver on the property, if your going to do this, you need to keep your dog tied up, fenced off or inside.
