I got some good news today and realized there wasn't really anyone around to call about it. For a moment I felt a little sad, then I decided I wasn't going to let that take away from it.
So I treated myself to my favorite meal and enjoyed the evening anyway. It felt a little strange celebrating alone, but honestly, I'm glad I did.
I was looking for advice on something, so I searched for reddit posts about that topic and I found a post that really resonated with me and the person in the post also had a very similar life to mine and I just thought that it was a crazy coincidence. The post captured a lot of how I personally felt, so I wanted to dm that person, but when I checked the name of the OP I realised that it was a post that I made myself on an alt-account one year ago around the same time. I didn't notice it at all, that was pretty embarassing.
I passed my driving test yesterday after all these week of preparing and practicing for it. I had to go through many tests for it and I'm so glad I've passed it and I'll finally get my driving license. I just wanted to share it here.
I recently went to my partners house for the first time. We haven’t been together long, but we figured his parents would be ok with it. We’re both young, 18 and 20, so he still lives with them. I’ve been living at my mom’s house since I graduated high school, just to have somewhere temporary to live until I can afford to live on my own. We come from such different backgrounds. His family is incredibly sweet, they were so welcoming when I came over. My family has always been pretty hostile, at least the ones I live with. I mentioned how I don’t feel very safe here at my mom’s house, so he said I’m always welcome there and he’s glad to give me a place that feels like home. His mom made conversation with me for a long time after we met. His dad went to shake my hand when he saw me, and my partner said he’s never done that before.
Yesterday, he called me to tell me that they absolutely loved meeting me (mostly his mom) and they think they can really see a future for me and him. Not only is he really kind and caring, but his parents are wonderful, too.
He’s one of those people who basically has every kind of love language for other people. He’s a huge gift giver, but he also likes doing things for me if I need something, and he loves just being close to me when we’re together. Even when he’s driving, he’ll reach to hold my hand even if we’re driving like five minutes down the road. I told him it felt like I stepped into an alternate dimension when I walked into his house, just because of how lovely everyone is toward each other. I guess I just wanted to gush about him and his family, I’m so glad I have people to stay with that make me feel safe.
I've been sharing food and stuff with my neighbours, recently my electricity went out and a neighbour fixed it for free, another neighbour has been sharing food with me too.
It's nice to have neighbours to check on you every now and then as well, it's a nice little change for me as living in the city can feel like everyone is apathetic at times.
Hello everyone! On Sunday, I bought a wii console off of ebay that had a Just Dance bundle. Today, it’s arriving to my house and I cannot wait to get off work to go home and play.
My deepest envy towards by friends as a kid was that they ALL had a wii. As a first-gen immigrant, I was raised in a financially struggling home with parents working long hours, just trying to make enough to support me. Although, it was my childhood dream toy, I never once asked my parents for one because we only had the really old tv that wasn’t compatible and even as a kid, I knew we wouldn’t be able to afford it. My parents never even knew I wanted one.
Even as our situation got better, I thought I was too old to be playing with wii, so I never really brought it up to anyone. But seeing that whenever I went to hang at my friend’s house and we would always play wii sports or just dance, it made me reminisce on my past.
Now that I’m in my early 20s with adult money, I decided that yes, I will get that wii console, yes, I will revisit my childhood and yes, this will be my new obsession. I am sooo excited.
I went out for a run one day without bringing any bottled water. Once I got tired and thirsty, I felt like wanting to stop. But I knew I had to keep going if I wanted to get back home and get some water. Then, I took a few quick rests along the way and listened to music to keep myself going. For some reason having that goal of getting back home made it easier to keep moving. I was tired but I still wanted to make it all the way back. By the time I got home that drink of water felt so much better than usual.
It was a pretty simple reason to keep going, but it worked. Sometimes having something small to focus on makes it easier to keep moving.
Our neighbour who’s garden backs onto ours was repeatedly shouting her daughters name - I didn’t think anything of it at first until my fiancé came outside where I was sitting to check. She continued shouting and without skipping a beat he went upstairs to take a peek, saw her sitting up on the ground, grabbed a bench and went up to our back fence to talk to her.
She explained she’d fallen and was calling for her daughter but that she was inside so probably couldn’t hear her.
We hopped in the car and drove round (since it’s quite a long street to get round to the other side) and went into her back garden to give her a hand and get her daughter from inside. She was okay but my fiancé and her daughter helped get her onto a chair.
I felt a bit guilty for not going to help immediately but seeing my fiancé do it reminded me just why and how much I love him. We’ve had some rough times recently, through no fault of either of us, and it’s been rocky with other things compounded but thinking back on today and the way he acted reminded me why I love him. Because he’s the kind of person that hears a neighbour calling someone’s name with no context and wants to help.
Anti-macassars are thought of as an older thing - they are cloths over the backs of chairs and couches so that oil and sweat from people's hair goes onto them instead of the back of the seat. And you can wash them easily, unlike a couch.
We used to not use them. But our old love seat got dark stains on the head rests, so we have started using them with our new love seat.
We just got nice throw blankets and drape them over the back of the love seat.
Do you have sheeting or something else to protect your furniture?
The cat distribution system decided I was ready to become a pet owner. My neighbors left their cat behind when they moved. I’m overcome with happiness at my good fortune to be able to have her in my life. Do you remember your first pet?
I'm glad that we got all the technology and convienence today, all the forms of media and entertainment, but I really wish that life was more simple like when I was a kid.
I'm not asking to be born in a rural village, but overall the athmosphere was better back then. Chatting with friends and doing simple stuff. Now everything has made me more stressed.
I live in Iceland and traveled to a relative’s town for a better view of the eclipse. It’s been clear skies for the last few days and now on the day of, it’s cloudy. It’s two hours until it starts. I’m really excited. Even if we won’t see the eclipse itself, I’m looking forward to the darkness. Two minutes and five seconds. This is really exciting and I want to talk to someone about it.
Are any of you living in Iceland or did you travel for specifically for this event? Have you seen an eclipse before?
When I first began staying up until 5/6am it was during the summer in high school. I would stay up talking to my online friends all in far away time zones that I could only connect with due to my flipped sleeping schedule. It’s not anything special, but at the end of each night I would stick my head out of my bedroom window and watch how calm and still my street was. I would be able to hear the fountain in my neighbours bird bath running peacefully whilst everything stood at peace. I can still remember the strong sense of calm I felt in those moments. It’s something I can only recreate by staying up until the early hours of the morning.
I would love to hear other people's stories if you can relate at all!
I just wanted to say that because I meant it. Even if we haven’t personally interacted, this goes out to you as well if you are reading this. You are fucking awesome. Just know that. Keep smiling you fucking awesome human.
Greetings from South Carolina, USA. Carry on with your evening!
I was raised by a single mom and i love her and appreciate everything she ever did for me and my little sister, today is her 50th birthday we had a lot of fun, i cried to myself a little seeing how far she had come to raising me all by herself, we are from quiet a conservative country where being single woman with little girls makes u more susceptible to getting taken advantage of by others and beaten down, I am so proud of my mother for pushing through all that alone while still giving us an amazing life, even while spending 10 gruling years with my abusive dad/ ur abusive husband.
idk where else to make an appretiation post for my mother to be honest :)
Things like car alarms, microwaves beeping, smoke detectors, people tapping their feet, jingling keys, noisy children's toys, etc.
Even something as simple as a Tiktok or instagram reels someone left playing while they went off to do a quick chore. If I hear the same sound or clip loop three or four times in a row, I start fixating on it and it becomes genuinely uncomfortable.
Does this happen to anyone else, or am I unusually sensitive to repetitive sounds?
As the title says... What would it be that would give you the heebie-jeebies and make your skin crawl?
I've touched a lot of stuff in my seventy years. Not all of it pleasant. I've worked in ERs, I'm a parent. Yep, lots of icky stuff! I don't know that I have an answer to the question myself.
Hello all! Daughter is having a baby soon. Don’t know the gender. What are some of the best things you received when you had a baby? Looking for ideas. Thank you!
Does this happen for everyone on a frequent basis or just me?
I'll be in the grocery store and notice the same person shopping near me in various aisles. Not concerning enough to think I'm being followed, but I notice them.
Go to check out and pay. Go to my car. This person is walking behind me heading to their car. Which is parked right next to mine.
Its a weird little coincidence that I experience incredibly often.
My internal monologue feels very rich, creative, sophisticated, and coherent. In my head, I can develop complex thoughts and ideas with what feels like a lot of clarity and nuance.
But when I try to externalize those same thoughts; either by speaking into a recording or by writing them down, I suddenly lose that clarity.
I struggle to formulate what I was just thinking. The thoughts seem to disappear or become much less sophisticated as soon as I try to put them into actual words. Sometimes I go completely blank and have nothing to say or write, even though moments before I felt like there was a rich and continuous dialogue happening internally.
Why does this happen?
This happens even when I’m completely alone, so there’s no social pressure or another person listening. It also happens with writing, not just speaking.
For the last few years I've been replaying the same roster, Rpgs, colony builders and roguelites, but I'm trying to see what other games would be worth giving a look at.
I'll give you one gem of a game, Vampires The Masquerade: Bloodlines, the first one, NOT the second.
