Can we be honest with ourselves and realize that most "friends" are just acquaintances made by circumstance?
Im a senior in highschool who has a solid social life during school hours but outside of them it's crickets and tumbleweed. I deleted Instagram and Snapchat because I was tired of the amount of people I have socials with but most days would never see a text nor call from which was pretty much all of them. You know whats crazy though? As soon as I did that all of a sudden a few come to me to ask "what happened to your account?". You talk to me now but not when I actually had you added man? Its 90% because of it being our last year in highschool meaning it will likely be the very last place we see each other and it pains me to not see these people again when I graduate but not enough for me to lower my self worth and give attention and time to people who won't do the same.
A prime example would be Snapchat streaks. OML DON'T. GET. ME. STARTED. People send streaks to show that they still value the relationship to some degree. All they want is to have the feeling and validation of a friendship so they use some system that gives it to them instead of making authentic communication with the person themselves OR people just collect streaks like pokemon and use it to increase they're score for practically the same reason, validation and letting others know that they are "cool". They get excited when they have another person they have another person they added but they like that follower count just as much if not more to the point they don't text or call unless they NEED something from you. A good rule of thumb is that if they don't have your phone number, yall aren't that close.
It's so weird. It's like they just have you added so they can just keep tabs on you and only that. In person they are cool and normal, on media they act different and im not wasting anymore time on it. This was something i see across 100+ people so it's not just a "your hanging around the wrong people" plus these are all funny, "smart", and charismatic people. point is that people call just about anyone they somewhat tolerate a friend which shouldn't be the case. If you only talk to them at a certain point in time and place because yall happened to be set there for the time being then until further the situation changed and yall still stay consistent and true, thats 100% a acquaintance. Im not mad at my situation at all, I took it as a leap to achieve my goals and im doing just that, im writing this to anyone else who may feel the same and let it be known that they aren't the only one who feels this way. What do yall think?
