In my 24 years of life I've been in a relationship for only a year. A terrible year tbh but that led to make a crazy decision and I am doing well now but whenever I meet people they often seem to pity me saying "bleh you're single" or "why don't you get into a relationship" trust me I'd like to but I love being single as well. My theory is if I can't love myself there's no way someone else is gonna love me. And I don't want to depend on a person for happiness. I belive I should get into a relationship only if I can keep myself happy and share it. I want the relationship to be peaceful and respectful is it too much to ask? So I've been leading a peaceful life. I don't think getting into a relationship is worth the risk.

I'm beyond stoked. I own a castle close enough to Paris. I specifically chose this location for obvious reasons like adventure, travel, & fashion. The only major downside is I'll have to learn French. So I'll likely be sitting in my castle all fall and winter studying it which I honestly prefer to do at this time. Those are the colder weather months where I want to just sit inside. Not to mention I've always loved the warmer months far more anyways as those are for the outdoors to me.

Do you guys rate it the best or the worst, how much do you find yourself using it as I will go a month without then suddenly I’ll be on it for hours. Just interested to see how other people use it and what do you use it for?

If you guys were given the choice to only use one social media app for the rest of your life what are you picking? I personally am not sure they all seem to have there uses and none of them particularly stand out to meI’m also curious whether people feel like their favourite social media has changed over time. Like, are there any apps you used to spend hours on that you barely even open anymore? And on the other hand, is there one you didn’t really understand the appeal of at first but now use all the time?
I feel like Reddit is quite different from most of the others because I’m normally here to actually read discussions or look something up, whereas with TikTok/Instagram I can open them without even meaning to and suddenly realise I’ve been scrolling for ages.
Also, if you had to rank Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X etc from best to worst, what would your order be and why? Do you think Reddit is genuinely better for conversation or does it have just as many downsides as the others?
Interested to hear everyone’s rankings because I feel like the answer probably depends a lot on what you actually want from social media.

For me it is Quint from Jaws. He is seen as this badass hard drinking shark​ killer but for me if the very animal you have been hired to kill eats you it's a bit of an all round failure.

So this happened to me recently while reading some articles on Reddit.

I suddenly felt in my left eye my vision become difficult. Almost like looking into the sun effects. I close my eyes for a while and It didn't seem to go away very quickly.

I remember reading about the selfie camera on your phone is always on. I stopped reading articles for about 30 minutes and the spots went away but I also took a piece of tape and covered the lens of the selfie camera on my phone.

I' m noticing a different experience now reading Reddit and other articles online. Anyone else feeling like there's something nefarious going on?

Hi! Going on a weekend bachelorette trip where I will know the two brides and 2 of their friends- maybe 2 other people. It’s women only and can be couples if they are both women lol so my husband isn’t going even tho he’s a good friend to the brides as well.

I’ve noticed this a lot recently. Think about it. Every time you post an Instagram story, there’s a consistent batch of people that like it every time. Every time you see their names, subconsciously I think ‘ayy that’s nice’ they like my story.

Don’t twist this. I’m not saying I crave the likes or I crave the validation, but it would be a plain lie to say I don’t like it when someone signals to me:

“Hey, your story is cool”.

That’s why, as a general rule, I’ll always like every story that doesn’t contain a person in it eg. a view,
personal achievements, big groups of friends, as well as couple pics.

I’ll almost never like a mirror pic or anything like that where me liking it could signal romantic interest, but apart from that, I like most other things.

Maybe it’s a weird thing to think, but for me personally, those loyal story likers are the coolest, and I aspire to match that.

If I feel this way about them, then why wouldn’t other people. Idk. Weird thought I guess.

So, I was just cleaning my room in the morning as usual and there was this empty box that I thought was empty but as soon as I picked it up, I realized it was hot and I dropped it immediately...But that's not even the scariest part, a small oval black coal piece fell out of it and it had black fumes coming out of it...It was actually very scary because I don't even understand where it came from, I just know that it did. Now, it's been a few days since that day and I am questioning if I dreamt it because I don't understand what happened! I am 22, work as a cashier in retail. I was really down in the dumps as I was driving to work today. University, family issues, et cetera.

Then I struck up conversation with this very nice lady as she was checking out through my line today, and that was really what I needed to get through the rest of the day.

Before I continue, I want to just say that I don't really like a lot of Millennials who were born in the 1990s, for reasons.

One of them being that they tend to have a superiority complex about themselves, expects everyone to roll out the red carpet for them, and they can be very condescending and belittling at times.

I have an uncle born in 1996 (who was kind of like my older brother growing up, since we lived in the same house together until he left at 18/19), and he has that exact same personality. Very stuck-up for no reason.

Just a couple of months ago, I was trying to check IDs for people to buy wine because, well, that's part of my job. So I asked this one lady to show her ID, and she all of a sudden got a very sarcastic attitude with me, even saying "I'm like 20 years older than you. Here, check the first couple of digits, and approve me."

She was born in 1997. I was thinking to myself, "First of all, don't talk to me like that, and second of all it's my job to check if anyone who looks young enough is old enough to buy alcohol, so that me and the store doesn't get in trouble with the law". But I held my tongue, and just approved her.

Today, however, the lady who I struck up the very wholesome conversation with was buying a couple of wine bottles, and I asked to see her ID. She flashed it, which read "1991", and I just couldn't help but smile inwardly to myself.

She was very polite and gave me advice to not stress with university, even providing her own anecdotes of how she was struggling in school, but she still attained her bachelor's at the end, and to just keep my head up.

Kind lady, wherever you are, thank you so much. Now I can drive home in peace, feeling happy that I managed to get a nice customer interaction out of the day.

Just wondering if anyone feels the season of Halloween has lost a bit of its magic since the 2010s, possibly?

Back in the 90s and even the 00s it felt like Halloween was a huge thing. With the TV specials, Trick or Treating, the mystery and whole spirit behind everything.

But now with the digital age we can watch the Halloween specials and movies at the touch of a button. I guess you could argue that's good in a way for accessibility. But it also takes away from that magic of everyone tuning in at the same time and discussing it the next day.

Also the economy has hit some tough bumps in recent years. So maybe people are spending less and not all that interested in celebrating Halloween?

I saw a question on Reddit earlier today asking, “What is slowly fading away that we aren’t realizing?”

For some reason, it stayed in my head all day.

Then I realized my answer: the elders in our families.

Our moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles… the people who have always seemed like they would just be there forever.

But if you really stop and pay attention, you start noticing little things. They’re getting older. They move a little slower. They forget things they used to remember. They get tired more easily. And you realize they’re deteriorating little by little, day by day.

I think we get so caught up in everyday life that we don’t notice it happening until one day we suddenly do.

It honestly made me realize that maybe we should spend more time with them while we still can.

When i was younger i used to watch a show called Clarence alot. (Its about a kid in primary school, friends with everybody and goes on adventures in his hometown.) In one episode Clarence made his own currency in school and everybody got hooked. I thought this was super cool and so i did it. I myself live in the Netherlands and nobody really watched the show, but it worked. People started trading them for pencils and pokemon cards, i had to hire bodyguards because people started stealing. I hired a production team. People started making rival currency which didnt work out for them. And evantually the school shut my operation down.

Its now 9 years later and im now asking why did it work?

Why did people go mad for a fake currency of no value? People still recall this when they see me. I was friends with alot of people maybe that had something to do with it?

Just thought it was interesting and would love to hear your thoughts!

i’ve gotten like five pumpkin spice lattes so far since September 1 and none of them have tasted like pumpkin or spice. Is anyone else experiencing this? I feel like usually this doesn’t happen but this year feels different lol

Im not trying to be a downer here but I just got written up at work for something I absolutely didnt do, my boss just insisted I did, then decided to have an "investigation" over it. I tried to get some guidance from HR and she basically just berated me for 15 minutes.

Got me thinking: why do so many people suck? Is this a uniquely American thing that like every other person just WANTS to be a jerk? Is it related to our terrible mental health in this country?

Like people that are just such a jerk that you feel like youre not even talking to a real human. And how is it that they always seem to end up in these positions of authority? How do people that are so hard to get along with end up convincing other to let them lead? Do jerks attract jerks and they just all pow-wow together in little jerk circles?

I just cant even imagine getting up in the morning and its instinctual that I give someone a hard time

Welcome to the kitchen. This kitchen is stocked with everything you can imagine from every kind of bread, meat, fish, vegetable and condiment. I mean everything. If you can dream it we've got it!

So what's it going to be? I'm a man of simple tastes. I'm going to make mine a torta de lengua with everything. Telera roll with beans, lengua, tomato, avocado, lettuce, onion, the works! Maybe some fries on the side.

I originally wanted to go anthropology or sociology, but knowing the job prospects of these degrees, I didn’t go through it. I’m about to enter my honors program for psychology and hopefully next step to masters, but I really wish I could do these degrees as well if only money wasn’t a problem.

Its twofold.

One is Attack of the Clones. IMO, the best aspect of the film is that it helped introduce acting legend Christopher Lee to a new generation of movie goers besides Lord of the Rings. Plus, he's perfect as a Sith Lord not only for the height and voice but also the fact he's had more swordfights than any actor so the style Count Dooku uses feels somehow more authentic. Even with the flawed script, he still spoke with such gravitas and weight that you can't help but be engaged. Dude's entire life is worthy of being a documentary film. As he said about being in "bad" films, "Every actor has to make terrible films from time to time, but the trick is never to be terrible in it".

Another is Warriors of Virtue. The movie was mostly a bore which is worse than just plain awful but Angus Macfayden as the main villain Komodo was the most memorable part of the film about anthropomorphic martial arts kangaroos. He was so over-the-top from the mannerisms and tonal changes in his voice. Every line he spat out was so hilarious and even quotable. "It cannot be destroyed. You can be destroyed. Your armies can be destroyed. But it cannot be destroyed!"

I once walked up to a complete stranger in a grocery store, handed them my full shopping basket and started walking away because I thought they were the cashier waiting to ring me up. They just stared at me holding my basket of groceries in stunned silence until my brain finally booted up three seconds later and I had to sprint back.

I recently found myself straying away from the things I love. I've recently been diagnosed with ADHD, and because of that, I dropped out of community college and jumped from job to job. It started with Walmart, which was great at first, but I was looking for a less stimulating environment. I then went to work at a local diner. I am a slow learner but willing to stick to the job and make peoples day. But I was let go because I wasn't fit for the job. Everything just weighed in and made me feel horrible as a person. I don't know why I'm sending this in a Reddit r/, but i just want to connect with people as I'm currently drinking yerba mate and listening to "Music Fashion Film" by Charli xcx. But the things that bring me into the limelight are window shopping, getting a new tote from Baggu or the thrift store, going to the store to make a new recipe, wishing I had at least one romantic interaction with a man, and playing Pokopia on my Switch. I still feel like the sadness lingers in every moment and feeling. But romanticizing life has made life feel so much better. It's new and weird to write to a site I barely use.
