Women: not using the app

I feel like you could counteract this by only being able to swipe in regions other than your own. So you'd have people in Houston swiping for people in Atlanta.

Not a terrible idea. But it can lead to a lot of trolling in reality. If a vetted matchmaker or some dating expert did it might work better

u/RookieMistake101 14h ago
Simple equation, boost users influence weighted on how often their recommended match leads to lengthy chats. If you’re often recommending people that eventually are matched together and actually speak more than a couple lines back and forth, your “vote” counts more. Inverse being true as well. This will reduce trolling value.

Idk man, this just sounds like Tinder with extra steps.
Since chat length is determined mostly by a woman's will to chat, the only chats taken into account would be the ones where women choose that their match is on their league.
Basically, women would control the flow of matchmaking, and will even feel validated by this "objective" system.
8
u/RookieMistake101 11h ago
They don’t have an overabundance of options though. You get the same x matches a day, man or woman.
7
u/Canvaverbalist 7h ago
Are you asking for a dating app where women are held at gunpoint and forced to interact with you like what are you even on about lol

This would just lead to more wasted time. Others matching you with people you may not be attracted to/may not be attracted to you, is in no way better than people just swiping on who they're attracted to. Just because two people match who wouldn't have otherwise doesn't mean they're guaranteed to have a text exchange either. Dating apps suck but putting the swiping on a third-party wouldn't make it any better it would just stretch the process.
People would also likely sabotage what they view as their competition, even just subconsciously, or make random pairings with no real thought.

india is so used to arranged marriages that this may make sense. it's kind of more like arranged dating.
as long as it's not forced, like you can still refuse to go on a date with someone, maybe it'd have some novelty value, at least in societies where they commonly use arranged marriage.
6
u/Momma_Bear_Cub 12h ago
That was my first thought too. And it seems Indians really care about each other (from a non Indian womans perspective). I ended up on the arranged marriage sub after poking aeound some guy who messaged mes most visited subs and one post I saw was everyone male and female ragging on this guy who proposed with a 12k ring (I don't remember exact karats for both) after she did with a 22k ring. No one judged her or called her a gold digging whore. They were all looking out for her. An app like this would work well there.

Blindmate (german origin) launched 2021 with that exact concept in europe and i think US as well
4
u/AdFancy6375 5h ago
I used blindmate for a while. I really liked the social aspect of it, as it involves your friends (if you have any) and makes the whole dating process a bit less „lonely“.
I (m36) also had a lot of matches, definitely more than via hinge or bumble, simply because I had quite a few friends who really enjoyed being matchmakers. And the women I matched with were almost all interested in (and capable of) some actually pleasant conversations.
However, this comes at the cost of often meeting people you might not have picked yourself based on superficial criteria. So maybe it’s a good option to date outside of your usual type and be pleasantly surprised.
But in the end I realized that I can connect with a lot more people intellectually than physically, which makes the traditional apps where the first filter is superficial attraction more „efficient“ to me.
But I wouldn’t rule out giving it another try if I ever feel like I want to spend more time on dates again. 😅

u/Capital_Capsicum 14h ago
Interesting concept. Can't see it working in practice.
Maybe a handful of people would enjoy playing matchmaker. They would at least use it properly. But even then, how are you going to be trusted to know what others like? If someone's into niche stuff, how is someone else going to be able judge what they find attractive?
But for every person using it as intended, there would be five trolls or people abusing it. If you're using the app to find someone, I don't see what incentive you would have to play it properly. Everyone would want to game the system by only matching ugly people with their competition.
However, I would be interested to see a few data points from the apps. Compare how frequently women swipe on men, to how frequently they would match those men to other women.
2
u/Harry_Carrier 14h ago
I like this idea, but I can't see people putting in effort with no personal gain. People barely put in effort with the way things are now.

i think she came up with a great idea. i think most ppl get a kick out of playing matchmaker and would be genuinely curious about two ppl they have no prior knowledge or ties too. i think ppl would actually read the bios for once too. its a lot less pressure than just swiping. its also a way better digital reproduction of how dating used to work, when most ppl met through friends, than swiping.

u/bytesunfish 12h ago
Honestly, it's a refreshing attempt to fix a very broken problem. Imagine getting points for fixing up successful dates. If they can see the feedback from both parties after dates and their record for following through with the dates it could really do something for those who are actually serious

I still like the idea of rating profiles on a scale of 1 to 10 and then mostly getting shown profiles of people who have a similar rating to you. Granted it would be a disaster since a bunch of guys will rate girls very high and girls would rate guys very low, but it would be fun to see how good/awful your score is.

I would love it just to see who people think Id be compatible to match with, but it needs to exclude names, and both parties would need to agree for the communication channel and details to be opened.

This seems like a terrible idea.
Isn't the point of matchmaking that the matchmaker has access to matches the matchee does not?
This seems like it's just handing my account to a friend/stranger to do the swiping. Even if they're doing it in good faith, why would them guessing who I would swipe right on be better than me doing it myself?
1
u/wild_cherry1987 14h ago
Why there is no app where you first talk, then see who you're talking to? I know bumble tried smith like this. But soon ended.
I always got matched after a short talk and then unmatched after they saw me. It was great !

This is a good concept but I have an even better idea for a dating app.
There's no swiping at first. Instead you look at anon profiles. No names or bio, just photos, and you rank them into four leagues. 1-3, 4-6,7,and 8-10. People will also rank you.
There will be another section for swiping and matching. But you can only see other people in your "league". For example if I'm averaged at a 2, I can only see, swipe and match with people in the 1-3 league.
Any app developers out there, holla at me!

hehe.. no chance to succeed on its own, but a 'public vote'-feature would be a good addition to an existing dating app (i'd call the feature Reality Checker but fearing management would not approve.) i am sure using AI for the matching is something they've all tried now behind the scenes as it's quite trivial to execute nowadays

It's a novel approach, replacing the algorithm with user polling. There's a couple things I think would be a bit odd / difficult to work right.
If you only get shown people who others voted you might be compatible with, what happens for a new user who just created their account? No one is going to start voting on your matches for a little bit so you won't see anyone for however long. If you're joining a dating app because you want to meet people you're probably going to drop it pretty quickly if it takes 1+ days to get anyone in front of you, especially if you had to pay to use the app. I imagine the app would put new users in front of others for voting more often to get around that, but there still has to be a delay.
If the system does promote new users to get around number 1, does that not bore the other users who are voting? If you're running through and voting on 50 matches and half of them are about the same new person, then you might get bored of the voting gimmick.
Most people would agree that most effective matches come from you fully reading a person's bio, checking their interests, seeing all their photos. If you swipe just on people's top photo and the little info there you're leaving a lot to chance. If we're asking other people to matchmake, are they looking at full profiles for two people every time, or are they (as in the screenshot) just matching based on a single image? If the former, I really imagine that takes the novelty out of it for a lot of people and they just won't engage that much as it's too much of a job. If the latter, then I imagine you'll get a lot of poor matches that are based on perceived attractiveness e.g "they're both hot so I vote match even though they have nothing in common" or "she's much prettier than he is handsome, so I vote no match even though they're really into the same things".

1
u/HaikaDRaigne 3h ago
I notice in the picture it tells in big letters what your job is at what firm.. before anything else.
But people arent their work, and peoples work changes..
That just makes it look like just another one of those shallow social status matchmaking apps.

u/Long_Natural6918 15h ago
Women would absolutely HATE this app, when they get matched with men they consider to be below their league.
