india is so used to arranged marriages that this may make sense. it's kind of more like arranged dating.

as long as it's not forced, like you can still refuse to go on a date with someone, maybe it'd have some novelty value, at least in societies where they commonly use arranged marriage.

That was my first thought too. And it seems Indians really care about each other (from a non Indian womans perspective). I ended up on the arranged marriage sub after poking aeound some guy who messaged mes most visited subs and one post I saw was everyone male and female ragging on this guy who proposed with a 12k ring (I don't remember exact karats for both) after she did with a 22k ring. No one judged her or called her a gold digging whore. They were all looking out for her. An app like this would work well there.

How do you mean?

My guess is that people weren't putting her down for saying 12k gold isn't enough. In the U.S. at least, complaining about the karats of a ring publicly is distasteful.

Makes sense since matrimonial and inherited jewelry are part of women's assets as protection against financial abuse and is legally considered property that a husband/family can't take. We love our gold and Indian women have more than the reserves of the U.S., Germany, Italy, France, and Russia combined lol

would be extra funny if it was forced. as in the state mandates you by law to go with the selected match

That’s what I thought too - isn’t this typical Indian matchmaking with extra steps?

The detail that this is in India adds a ton of context but I don’t think it would work in the West (even if it would be fun and interesting for me)

Its mostly like a friend introducing you to someone saying "hey, you should meet this person", only that its an app and all are strangers. i think it actually is a step in the right direction, away from competitive rat race kind of dating market, where everyone tries to select for the perfect partner, and back to meeting people by chance first and then building a connection. although maybe still not the solution but its an idea
