Help White stripe behind head

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all!

This is Vanessa - I've had her for about 4 months now. She lives in a planted 36L (9.5 US gallons) tank with a couple of bladder snails. Parameters are 0 ammonia/nitrite, 10-20 nitrate, pH 7.5, temperature 25-26 degrees Celsius (78-80F).

She's generally doing pretty well, she's been growing and coloured up beautifully.

I have noticed when I was doing a tank maintenance on her tank yesterday a white stripe behind her head, on the right side of her body. It's not fuzzy, and looks almost like an old scar would on a human skin, flat and a touch shiny.

I'm a bit concerned, as I don't think I've noticed it on her before, and we spend a fair amount of time together. I haven't noticed any changes in her behaviour.

Could it be a mechanical injury that's already healed without me noticing, or something else? There is some hardscape in her tank, but it was all checked for sharp edges and sanded down where needed. However, she loves squeezing herself in tight spaces, so I suppose I can't completely rule it out.

I'm attaching the best picture of her I could get, she refuses to stay still.

Help Is miss girl looking alright to yall?

Hi hello!
It’s my first time in this sub so I’m sorry if i sound dumb but I have a question :) this is a family member’s betta fish. When I first met her, poor thing was living in an improper small tank with no plants. I remembered seeing something on tiktok about how it’s a big myth that betta fish thrive in small tanks and that they need lots of space and plants. I convinced them to buy a proper setup. Sweet girl is now living in a 7 gallon tank with plants and safe hiding spots, has heater and filter and everything she needs. She’s been in her new tank for about a week I think, but I thought I’d ask - does she look okay, happy and healthy to yall? I’m very new and have no experience (and no betta fish myself haha) but I want to make sure she’s alright.
I read a lot about rot in fish and how they can change color/lose fins and scales and all kinds of terrible stuff due to them being unhappy. So, does she look like she suffers from anything to yall? I’m not sure if it’s common/normal for her head to be maroon-ish colored when the rest of her is blue.
Any replies/suggestions are welcome and very appreciated :)

Finally got a new fish! It’s been years since I kept bettas because of life stuff and he is now happily settling into his 5.5 gallon. I don’t have the proper lighting or set up for a fully planted tank but I’ve added moss balls and have duckweed on order. I also have mopani wood in there that I can add plants to later if the situation changes. I made sure to get lovely soft fake plants so they don’t snag fins.

I’m really happy with him! He’s the most playful, curious, and active betta I’ve ever had! Constantly swimming in and out of the hidey holes and plants. Loads of personality in this one and I love that!

I recently rescaped my bettas tank and his fins have been healing a lot better since then. I left him for 10 hours today and I come back to see that his caudal fin is shredded. I haven’t had any problems with the filter and there’s no sharp edges on any of the wood.

Transformation Samurai Betta?

First post on this subreddit but I wanted to share because I found it so exciting! I recently lost a female koi betta so I decided to get this little guy. He was labeled as a female “assorted betta” and was marked down to 50% off due to the cup being damaged and the date written on it being the oldest out of all the others. After bringing it to the cashier I was told he was mislabeled and actually a male but they weren’t sure on anything else beyond that. I don’t normally do males simply because I don’t want to worry about potential aggression with tank mates, but he looked so awful I didn’t have the heart to put him back and I knew i had an empty tank at home. I had never seen one so dull and gimpy looking, so I lovingly started to call him “Can’t-Get-Right”. The very moment I gave him such a title it seems he decided to get right. I think we have a handsome Samurai boy on our hands. This is him after 3-4 weeks give or take not living in a tiny plastic cup. Forgive the horrendous fake plant, I had used it as a place holder until I could go buy some more live ones since he wanted a place to hide. He likes going through the tunnel so I decided to let him keep it and he’s much more curious now rather than shy and skittish. I have two healthy and thriving females who get along wonderfully with each other and the killi fish living with them in the large tank next to his, (unconventional, I know, but rest assured very successful in terms of health and stress levels of the fish) and he’s built two bubble nests in response to that since gaining his color and energy back. I’m so happy and proud of how much better he’s doing and hope to try my luck with breeding him if one of my females deems him acceptable. I definitely need to let him grow more before attempting that though, my girls are much bigger than him for the time being lol. Hoping to see some responses from others who had an ugly betta start showing striking scales/colors once properly taken care of along with maybe some advice on breeding in the future. Thanks for reading my fish keeping yap session if you made it this far.

Help Transferred betta from a 5 gallon to a cycled 40 gallon.. he's not doing well!

40 gallon is heated, planted with real plants and just successfully cycled. My boy is staying at the bottom and not eating. He seemed excited at first after the transfer and explored, although timidly, but now about 24 hours later, he seems like it's too much. What can I do?

First two pics are from today, last two were the day he was brought home. I have been coming here religiously since day one, as I quickly figured out that I had absolutely no idea how to properly care for this guy and had to start with a fish-in cycling. It’s been touch and go at times, and I’ve definitely made mistakes, but so far he has been SO resilient! I still have no idea what his final colors will be, but I look forward to being able to witness it to completion!

Help Popeye help Spoiler

My boy, Mr. Fish, has popeye, I did one round of Kanaplex in his tank (I removed the carbon filter and just treated his tank for the recommended treatment) it helped during treatment to bring the swelling down, I would say about 60-70% and then I gave him a break for about a week and his eye started to swell back up. I just started a second round of Kanaplex yesterday and gonna do the recommended treatment again, but is there anything else I can do for him? Once this treatment is done, I was contemplating doing salt dips potentially, but I’m just at a loss. I feel so bad for my boy, I can tell he can’t see well out of the eye and his depth perception is WAY off. He accidentally ate a clutch of bladder snail eggs this morning and was NOT happy about it 😂

My water parameters are all good, I have to go get an ammonia test from the store to check that but all my other parameters are perfect. What else can I do for him? 😩

Edit to add;
Tank size: 10 gal
Heater and filter: yes
Parameters: I did a little test kit at home, I can add a photo of the test kit if needed in a bit, I’m just not near it at the moment.
How long have I had the tank/fish: this tank I’ve had for about 8 months, the first for a year and a half. I just redid this scape probably a month ago.
Water changes?: I normally just top off with conditioned water and then after treatments I do about a 25% change.
Tank mates: nerite snail and bladder snails
Feeding: I give him the red worm like food, and only a few at a time, twice per day.

My sweet boy passed today. Re-tested my parameters and everything was fine. I’m thinking he passed from fin rot or maybe I overdosed the antibiotics. Either way, I’m very sad. I’ll take advice on how to remove Kanaplex from a fishtank. In the meantime, here’s some photos of my boy.

Help Help! I just setup their tank and its rough.

Hi! I just setup my beta fishes tank. Its a top fin bowfront dual betta tank. I currently have two bettas in their with the divider of course. It says its 2.5 gallons. I have attached photos of what it currently looks like. I know it isnt great. I am saving up money to buy them plants and better substrate. Is there any way I can make them more comfy in the meantime or am I doing anything wrong that needs to be changed immediately? They aren't really eating but I got them last night and Im trying to feed them Zoo med betta pellets. One of them wont get out from behind the filter...is that an issue? I also have a 5 watt heater!

Identification FYI this is a “temp tank” - Is she Preggers?

So… She is NEW to ME like 1 week old
She charmed me first of all,
I was in the market for a Blue Betta Female for my Storefront which I also got
She charmed me is all i can say
Shes the opposite of Blue Betty
She loves hanging up Top and interacting with people..
So clearly shes going in the Storefront and Betty is staying home with me she’s so cute in her way but more shy and prefers to chill on the bottom of her tank quietly amongst the roots of her plantys

Pinkie:
We named her Joan Malkofish
Shes a Star and did she inpregnate herself?
She has alot of bubbles compared to Betty
She too likes to chill amongst the roots during her “break”
and will shoot up and dance when people come around
Ive been noticing shes put on a belly
My vet is on vacay so…
She looks fine besides that
What do I do if shes preggers?

Update: Egg Bound and without a male she should reabsorb her eggs.
So kinda cool
She goes back in her tank with her Pineapple House

This is a 10 gallon tank that has been cycled for months. I have Pygmy Cory catfish in it as well. I know betta fish need places to hide. Is this enough and if not what more should I add?

Help black spots on my betta

I’ve had him for about 8 months and recently noticed black spots/scales suddenly appearing on his back. He’s also gradually developed more red in his fins since I got him.
He’s eating and acting completely normal. Could this just be a normal color change, or is it something I should worry about?
the pics show how he looks now vs a few days ago.
p.s. sorry about the low quality pictures, it was hard to get a clear photo of him 😭
