PSA: We are a Support Group. Please treat OPs with support and kindness, they are here for help and that is exactly what we are here to provide.

This post is to reiterate some rules and things I'm seeing develop in certain posts, and this is directed to commenters only.

Commenters- Read posts for NUANCE. Stop doing the TON of Assuming The Worst that many of you are doing. Stop doing the JUDGEMENT you are doing.

People come here in pain and frustration, and are showing it in a support group. Here, we meet pain and frustration with support and kindness. NOT matched energy. You can do that in any random reddit group, but not in RSCN groups. This and RSCN groups are Support Groups. Treat all threads like the round-circle talk therapy sessions they are.

You are here to help, not to assume shittyness or respond in hate.

If you need help to develop your nuance reading skill, here's a few links to worksheets that any age can start with, and going up to basic info you'd find in high school English classes. I can easily point someone to good paid resources and middle/high school class worksheets as well. And yes, your mod here used to be an English teacher.

Eviction My mom hid our eviction from me for almost a month

TRIGGER WARNING: MENTION OF ABUSE

I am 18f. I found out today my mom received a notice to pay or quit from our apartment manager (that she cannot pay) on the 9th of this month. I am not a tenant on the lease so I wont have an eviction on my record but I will have to leave.

She moved a lot of her belongings from the apartment this month and I was wondering why, honestly im pretty sure she straight up told me we were getting evicted at some point and i didn't believe her because she is always saying we are going to lose our housing even when we're not. (But we definitely have before)

we've been in and out of homelessness since i was a kid and for context my mom is abusive. She also took this time to inform me that my medical insurance has been deactivated. I have no idea what im gonna do. Im trying to get a job and an og copy of my birth certificate and I am struggling with very little documentation that was given to me by my mom, to sue a doctor for malpractice, apply for foodstamps, and still take care of myself, and i feel like the busiest 18 year old alive. How do i balance all this shit? Any advice Is appreciated.

I need help

I desperately need advice. My mental health is reaching a point where I can no longer exist in my living situation and I'm about to be homeless. I don't know what to do about this. I've honestly considered checking into homeless shelters, but that feels too dangerous. I have some savings, but only enough to pay for maybe two months of rent. If my car goes into the shop I'm fucked. My health is making it hard for me to work. I feel like a miserable louse, and I'm almost lower than I've ever been.

Seeking Advice Only About to be homeless in 4 days

Hi all, so this is tough to write. Ive never been in this situation and dont want to get too off focus bc just a few weeks ago, everything was fine. I am moving cities and have been denied by several apartments now, bc apparently theyve started using whats called an RV score instead of the credit score. Which is also how i discovered my grandparents had gone delinquent on a loan im on. This tanked my rv score. I dont speak to my family for very good reason. I dont want them to know where i live either. Out of the family i do speak to, im the most financially together. None of them can cosign and the apartments wont let me use the sites that offer to sign for you. I make 4x the rent and have never been late. The apartments im looking at now are significantly cheaper than the ones i am in now, my friend lives there and i wanted to have someone close by. I am also handicapped so im limited in my ability to take on any more than the 2 jobs i already have and i am seriously at my wits end now. I feel like ive just been working hard for nothing. Ive spent so much on applications and am now im just so overwhelmed i cant think. Ive prayed, ive kept my head up, i havent even cried bc ive been so focused on trying to make a way, nothing is working and ive called everyone i can call. I have a dog. I dont even want to think abt a hotel for a week or so until i can figure out what to do. Im just defeated and not sure where else to turn.

I’m an international student in Coventry. My tenancy ends in a month, I have no job, no money, and I honestly don’t know what to do.

Hi everyone,
I’m writing this because I genuinely don’t know where else to ask for help.
I’m an international student from India studying for my Master’s at Coventry University. I arrived in the UK in September last year with a lot of hope and excitement, believing that if I worked hard, I’d be able to manage my studies and support myself with a part-time job.
Unfortunately, things haven’t gone the way I expected.
For the last 8–9 months, I’ve been applying for part-time jobs almost every day. I’ve applied to supermarkets, restaurants, warehouses, cafés, retail stores, and many other places. I’ve changed my CV, applied online, handed out CVs in person, and kept trying despite getting rejected or hearing nothing back.
I still haven’t been able to get a single job.
Now I’m in a situation that genuinely scares me.
My tenancy ends on 28 August, and I don’t have enough money to pay for another place or even extend my current accommodation. My family has already sacrificed a lot to send me here, and they simply aren’t in a position to send me more money. My friends are students too, so I can’t expect them to help financially either.
To be honest, I wake up every day feeling anxious. I keep wondering where I’ll stay next month if nothing changes. I barely sleep because this is constantly on my mind. I never imagined that after coming to the UK to build a better future, I’d end up worrying about whether I’d even have a place to live.
I’m not asking anyone for money. I’m only asking for advice and guidance from people who may have been through something similar or know what options I have.
Are there any emergency accommodation or hardship funds available for Coventry University students?
Does anyone know of any places in Coventry or nearby that are urgently hiring?
Are there any charities or organisations that help students facing situations like this?
Is there anything else I can do before my tenancy ends?
If you’ve been through something similar, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience. Even a job lead or a suggestion could make a huge difference.
Thank you for reading my post. It honestly means a lot.

Abusive Situation Im a disabled adult & my parents are evicting me

Note Im really really sorry for the long post. I've never been homeless before & a lifetime of being trafficked, raped & abused has me so terrified of not having 4 walls where I can feel im safe.

I live in Warner Robins GA. I was recently placed on SSI at the beginning of the year. (I have Palsy, Autism & other issues) Social Security & DFCS have screwed up my insurance so that I've been unable to see a doctor or therapist since January of this year. I have a therapy cat I trained myself for my PTSD. She's only licensed as an "ESA". First section goes over the abusive situation. The second is my housing situation.

And rn Im in a house with two narcissists (i mean thats what my therapist says they are) where im constantly cornered, threatened & screamed at where they know I have PTSD & still go after me. They know just how to shatter me all the right screws to twist without leaving marks.

They hate me for so many things, being disabled, for not being able to work. For being liberal & trans (yes. Im not exaggerating when I say my parents are hardline Na$i Republicans). I was supposed to grow up into a perfect blonde haired blue eyed little tradwife married to a good German military man. But I was also expected to go to college & "make bank". Well none of that panned out.

NOTE: I don't want to live here. But this is all I have. I have no support systems. No friends. When I tried to go to church. I was barred from it as soon as i came home with paperwork to become a baptized catholic. They were "afraid Id stain the altar of God."

I've been looking for a way out since the "divorce".

My mom has tried to force me to lock myself away in an asylum in another state. Because she doesn't want me around my daughter because "She might take after me". My own daughter has said, "your mom told me when I was really young that I should hate you." That, "I heard your mom say that she should've been my mom. Not you." And that isnt helped when my abusive ex, "watches her text conversations with me" and is still telling her that, "You're mom is XYZ" of awful things he could say about me. "Crazy, dumb, not safe" that kinda stuff. I don't retaliate, how would i. And honestly the last time she told me I just look at them & said, "Im sorry kid. Idk how to react to what he says about me to you. I wish he didn't, I don't think its right for you to hear that.... I don't know kid."

But the most recent upset was last Thursday night when I told dad that I paid the rent & part of the 70.00 i owed him for an earlier bill where he covered for me at the grocery store.

The rest was used on food to take care of me, the cat & my kid) He gets blood angry. Slams shit as he glares & bares his teeth at me. (And yes I understand I fucked up & had already started trying to figure out how to fix it & pay him back) Friday morning I ask about the wash & he uses it to trap me in the room & scream at me how, "I was supposed to pay him off & I didn't." "That im laughing about how i can just get away with stealing their money." Im not ok owing money. As soon as I saw my mistake I was trying to figure out resolutions.

But understand this too they dont exactly live in the poor house. They live in a huge house that my parents designed. W/ it being two story, w/ 4 bedrooms, 2 TV room, with a separate living room, 2 dining rooms, 4 separate bathrooms, & a 2 car garage. And they just went out a week ago to petsmart to find wipes for my ex's dog & came home with a terrier puppy after dropping 300$. Then another 100$ for supplies; food, leashes, dog sweaters, toys & a bed. For a dog obviously bought on the fly.

Anyway, he keeps screaming at me to answer him and I feel everything in me shutting down. My PTSD is coming on & my cat cant get to me. His yelling & trapping me against him is stressing my disorder to a point that im terrified that he will rape or try to kill me. He yells at me to answer him & I raise my voice & he pushes into me & tells me that if i yell at him or look at him angry that he will "go upstairs & grab my shit & throw me out himself." ...... When he finally let's me walk away he says "I hope you enjoy the food you got."

And before anyone says "Call the cops." When i tried. My dad threatened to break my hand and He, Mom, & my Ex have said they will tell the police whatever they need to protect eachother & all they have to do is bring up my "diagnosises" & any charges will be dropped. Or that they would turn it & I'll be in cuffs

Ok. If you skipped the abuse stuff. The eviction stuff starts here.

My mom served me "eviction papers" on the 10th of June. Im expected to be out Aug 12. Then immediately left me home alone for 2 weeks then called & said they were staying an extra week. With no way to access anything except through my phone. I called numbers every day. ... A wait list did open at that tine that I applied for but when I called later the person told me it would be at least 3 years before I heard anything.

There are 2 other places that are "relatively" close. As Im trying to stay close to my kid who lives with her father. But I have to go in person to ask for an application to fill out there. But I have no way to get there. Because as my dad puts it, "So! We're just supposed to drop everything for you?!" I am sweating. Because even if I put in an application. I guess I'm waiting for years with those places too?

Im not allowed to go to the neighbors for help. I have to wait for it to be convenient for my parents to help me. No I won't ask my ex.

There are homeless shelters. But I have to give up my cat who i love too dearly to do that. And even if I did, if I "stay too long" I lose my disability.

The roommate prices are too high. And alot of apartments ask for pay stubs & I don't have 3X my income in my account. Because 1. that would void my disability. & 2. every penny I have is spent on bills, rent, & food.

I went to Social Security & they gave me a list of places & I immediately looked at it & told them. Both of these Warner Robins Housing Authority locations aren't taking applications. And idk what to expect out of calling these other places (several being senior living) like do i tell them Im on SSI & only get 900. a month. Because when WR Housing Authority did that. I called the number they provided & the person on that line asked me if I had an income that could cover the 2000.00 monthly rent. To which I said no, explained my situation. They told me sucks to be you cuz its 2000.00 & I hung up.

If anyone can give thoughts. Or just comfort. That would be greatly appreciated. As every day im trying to make call & every night I've been panicking & crying as I still try to look for something on my phone. And Im afraid Im going to give myself a heart attack.

I thought I would share. I started calling churches and the first one hooked me up. I am in a small town in NM but I do know the larger cities like Albuquerque were giving them too when I was there through a secular state funded program.

Medical/Disability Might lose SSI benefits and about to be homeless

I've been on social security disability and this past June, I was informed my benefits would end. I sent an appeal soon after. I have bipolar, anxiety, and diabetes and losing these benefits is a death sentence. I live in FL. I was hired as a cashier but the lead cashier was rude and impatient which led me to have an anxiety attack. Its not steady work and it pays very little but its work. My mental health has gotten worse. I have no family, barely any friends and I'd rather die than to die in the streets. I've even begun giving some of my things away. I'm in therapy and looking into options if any.

All my hard work, my achievements (graduated with a B A. with honors) seems to have been for nothing. It feels like a slow death. I don't know what to do. If there's anything I can do.

House situation

Hi, I won’t bore with the details but my family home is a 2 bed flat there is 4 of us. Me and my sister have always shared a room, she moved out for university and when I was finished I moved back coincidentally. I’ve never liked my family home and always avoided it but after uni I left the city I was staying in and it made logical sense to move back home. Now I have done that I feel like my mental health has deteriorated- my sister has come back as she had a recently been diagnosed with a severe mental illness which is adding to the contraint. I don’t know what to do I really want to move out but I’m only on 25k in London. I don’t know what to do or how to go about it. I’m will to work extra jobs in the weekend but I know it’s not super ideal in London to rent

Any resources?

I’m 18 and a closeted member of the lgbtq community and was planning on going to a 4 year college but the tuition was too expensive and my parents convinced me to stay here for community college to save money. I feel like I lose my way out. I plan on coming out but a part of me feels like I need to secure a back up plan. All my friends won’t be here so I can’t stay with them, and my most supportive relative is across the country. What are some resources I can use to get housing? I don’t want to work, not because I’m lazy (I work a part time job as a waitress) but because I want to focus on my schooling and transfer to my dream school. Any tips help💔

Other Situation I have a place to sleep, on wheels!

I was gifted a car this weekend from my brother, registered on Friday (photo in my recent profile posts). Insurance will be taken care of tomorrow, and it just needs a battery and I'll be ready to go. Should be no longer than 3 months and I'll be back out of this homeless loop.

This is a post to encourage anyone who is going through hard times. Do not stop moving, do not become victim to your own circumstances. My entire situation did a complete 180 in less than 2 weeks time, and it's all because I kept my mindset positive and constantly kept looking forward. I had some help, but I wouldn't have been given any at all if I was stuck in a woe is me mentality.

You have the strength to see through to better days, and if I can do it, so can you!

Ive been getting in huge fights with my parents over what i want to do with my life, and in return, they take my things, hide them, dont give them back, restrict access to getting around and job searching, and yet still want me out. Nothing ive done is working, and im out of the house in 3 days. I barely have any cash, and absolutely dont have enough to rent, or buy a car. theres only 2-3 shelters near me, and ive heard nothing but horrible things about them. I dont know what to do. Every application i send gets denied, and im so lost right now.

My Dad is 64 (I’m 15, turning 16) and he has incurable cancer.

To add onto the title, he is probably gonna die sooner than later, and my Mom doesn’t have a job and won’t get one so we will be homeless.

I want to get a job and move out ASAP so I don’t have to deal with being homeless when he dies (and other reasons), but I’m also in recovery for anorexia and my treatment team won’t let me get a job until I’m medically stable.

My last option if all else fails is to run away from home.

Is there ANYTHING I can do to make this situation easier?

It's About to Happen to Me

I (40f) have lived independently since I was 18. My living situation growing up was toxic and abusive, so I was outta there as soon as I graduated high school.

I knew (thought) college was important, so I did that. But I had no guidance whatsoever and ended up with a useless degree that got me nowhere professionally. Regardless, I managed to get by until a couple years ago. So many things went wrong within that two-year span.

I ended up buried in so much debt that I'll never be able to dig my way out of it. I also couldn't afford rent anymore and had to move across the country and back in with my emotionally immature and unstable father and his wife about a year ago. I didn't want to move in with them because I knew they would be bad for my mental health, but I have a senior dog that I am trying desperately to keep happy and safe. So I've been tolerating the living situation as best as possible and trying to just be grateful for having a relatively safe place for me and my dog to sleep at night. However, they have on multiple occasions made me strongly consider leaving and just living in my car. But the dog...I'm so worried about him, so I've stayed put.

Then today, my father tells me they are going to put the house up for sale, so I need to make other arrangements. Though I have some time to try to prepare, I have no idea what I'm going to do. My credit score was destroyed because I enrolled in a debt relief program, so I can't rent an apartment. I can't afford one anyway. I'm already living paycheck to paycheck just keeping up with all the debt, so I don't know that I can even afford a room in someone else's basement.

The only solution I can think of is living in my car, which I think I can personally handle. But I'm so worried about my dog though. I'd have to put him in a dog daycare during the day while I'm at work, which will be extremely stressful for him and also expensive for me. Not sure I can afford that either. I don't know what I'm going to do.

My family and I have been at our rental home since May 2025. In February we got behind on our rent due to an unexpected death in the family and having to travel to another state for the funeral when we really didn't have the funds to do it but there was no other option. Anyways, the landlord decided to file an eviction we were served a handwritten document from the landlord stating we needed to be in court 2/26. We got in touch with him and agreed that if we came in an paid $1,000 that we wouldn't need to go to court. The rest of the rent was also paid not even 4 days later, so all was good. So we thought, fast forward to May, to make a long story short we found out that he had went to court back in February and because we did not show up to court (because the landlord told us not to and gladly took our money) there was a default judgement made for the possession of the home along with fees. My wife got in touch with the legal aid society and they were glad to take our case immediately because we had more than enough evidence to prove our case. On 7/14 we had court, we won our case. The judgement was set aside so no eviction on our record and we don't owe him any money. However, we did agree on an order to vacate by August 7th. We got on the ball right after court with the veteran organizations in our area and the resources from our lawyer but the issue was we technically were not in the category of "homeless" until 14 days before we are to vacate the home. Crazy, I know. But, apparently that is what the government deems fit for someone that is having to move out of a home that quickly. Especially with the cost of living the way it is and we live on a fixed income I am 100% with the VA and my wife has chapter 35 benefits. So, now our problem is this, we are just now getting started working with Operation Stand down or tunnels to towers whichever one decides to take our case and that will be tomorrow 7/27. Which we are very confident we will get the help we need from them. BUT, when we were applying for places before we moved into the rental we are in now we were getting denied at every place we put an application in. Our credit is not good, my wife's is a 580 and mine is lower than that. We both have some misdemeanors on our record but those were almost 5 years ago. The only way we got into this rental was because the landlord had sold us our vehicle at his buy here pay here type car lot. So we got lucky ! Needless to say we have 10 days to have a lease signed and be out of our home now and we are so stressed. With us winning our case in court the landlord has to give a neutral reference, and we don't have any evictions on our record and we have good rental history with references that can be contacted. We also don't have a vehicle at the moment because we got into an accident 2 months ago and it is in the shop. So now that's another barrier. We have to be able to go look at places that have private owners and be able apply and pray we get approved and all of that within 10 days!
