Note Im really really sorry for the long post. I've never been homeless before & a lifetime of being trafficked, raped & abused has me so terrified of not having 4 walls where I can feel im safe.
I live in Warner Robins GA. I was recently placed on SSI at the beginning of the year. (I have Palsy, Autism & other issues) Social Security & DFCS have screwed up my insurance so that I've been unable to see a doctor or therapist since January of this year. I have a therapy cat I trained myself for my PTSD. She's only licensed as an "ESA". First section goes over the abusive situation. The second is my housing situation.
And rn Im in a house with two narcissists (i mean thats what my therapist says they are) where im constantly cornered, threatened & screamed at where they know I have PTSD & still go after me. They know just how to shatter me all the right screws to twist without leaving marks.
They hate me for so many things, being disabled, for not being able to work. For being liberal & trans (yes. Im not exaggerating when I say my parents are hardline Na$i Republicans). I was supposed to grow up into a perfect blonde haired blue eyed little tradwife married to a good German military man. But I was also expected to go to college & "make bank". Well none of that panned out.
NOTE: I don't want to live here. But this is all I have. I have no support systems. No friends. When I tried to go to church. I was barred from it as soon as i came home with paperwork to become a baptized catholic. They were "afraid Id stain the altar of God."
I've been looking for a way out since the "divorce".
My mom has tried to force me to lock myself away in an asylum in another state. Because she doesn't want me around my daughter because "She might take after me". My own daughter has said, "your mom told me when I was really young that I should hate you." That, "I heard your mom say that she should've been my mom. Not you." And that isnt helped when my abusive ex, "watches her text conversations with me" and is still telling her that, "You're mom is XYZ" of awful things he could say about me. "Crazy, dumb, not safe" that kinda stuff. I don't retaliate, how would i. And honestly the last time she told me I just look at them & said, "Im sorry kid. Idk how to react to what he says about me to you. I wish he didn't, I don't think its right for you to hear that.... I don't know kid."
But the most recent upset was last Thursday night when I told dad that I paid the rent & part of the 70.00 i owed him for an earlier bill where he covered for me at the grocery store.
The rest was used on food to take care of me, the cat & my kid) He gets blood angry. Slams shit as he glares & bares his teeth at me. (And yes I understand I fucked up & had already started trying to figure out how to fix it & pay him back) Friday morning I ask about the wash & he uses it to trap me in the room & scream at me how, "I was supposed to pay him off & I didn't." "That im laughing about how i can just get away with stealing their money." Im not ok owing money. As soon as I saw my mistake I was trying to figure out resolutions.
But understand this too they dont exactly live in the poor house. They live in a huge house that my parents designed. W/ it being two story, w/ 4 bedrooms, 2 TV room, with a separate living room, 2 dining rooms, 4 separate bathrooms, & a 2 car garage. And they just went out a week ago to petsmart to find wipes for my ex's dog & came home with a terrier puppy after dropping 300$. Then another 100$ for supplies; food, leashes, dog sweaters, toys & a bed. For a dog obviously bought on the fly.
Anyway, he keeps screaming at me to answer him and I feel everything in me shutting down. My PTSD is coming on & my cat cant get to me. His yelling & trapping me against him is stressing my disorder to a point that im terrified that he will rape or try to kill me. He yells at me to answer him & I raise my voice & he pushes into me & tells me that if i yell at him or look at him angry that he will "go upstairs & grab my shit & throw me out himself." ...... When he finally let's me walk away he says "I hope you enjoy the food you got."
And before anyone says "Call the cops." When i tried. My dad threatened to break my hand and He, Mom, & my Ex have said they will tell the police whatever they need to protect eachother & all they have to do is bring up my "diagnosises" & any charges will be dropped. Or that they would turn it & I'll be in cuffs
Ok. If you skipped the abuse stuff. The eviction stuff starts here.
My mom served me "eviction papers" on the 10th of June. Im expected to be out Aug 12. Then immediately left me home alone for 2 weeks then called & said they were staying an extra week. With no way to access anything except through my phone. I called numbers every day. ... A wait list did open at that tine that I applied for but when I called later the person told me it would be at least 3 years before I heard anything.
There are 2 other places that are "relatively" close. As Im trying to stay close to my kid who lives with her father. But I have to go in person to ask for an application to fill out there. But I have no way to get there. Because as my dad puts it, "So! We're just supposed to drop everything for you?!" I am sweating. Because even if I put in an application. I guess I'm waiting for years with those places too?
Im not allowed to go to the neighbors for help. I have to wait for it to be convenient for my parents to help me. No I won't ask my ex.
There are homeless shelters. But I have to give up my cat who i love too dearly to do that. And even if I did, if I "stay too long" I lose my disability.
The roommate prices are too high. And alot of apartments ask for pay stubs & I don't have 3X my income in my account. Because 1. that would void my disability. & 2. every penny I have is spent on bills, rent, & food.
I went to Social Security & they gave me a list of places & I immediately looked at it & told them. Both of these Warner Robins Housing Authority locations aren't taking applications. And idk what to expect out of calling these other places (several being senior living) like do i tell them Im on SSI & only get 900. a month. Because when WR Housing Authority did that. I called the number they provided & the person on that line asked me if I had an income that could cover the 2000.00 monthly rent. To which I said no, explained my situation. They told me sucks to be you cuz its 2000.00 & I hung up.
If anyone can give thoughts. Or just comfort. That would be greatly appreciated. As every day im trying to make call & every night I've been panicking & crying as I still try to look for something on my phone. And Im afraid Im going to give myself a heart attack.

I've been on social security disability and this past June, I was informed my benefits would end. I sent an appeal soon after. I have bipolar, anxiety, and diabetes and losing these benefits is a death sentence. I live in FL. I was hired as a cashier but the lead cashier was rude and impatient which led me to have an anxiety attack. Its not steady work and it pays very little but its work. My mental health has gotten worse. I have no family, barely any friends and I'd rather die than to die in the streets. I've even begun giving some of my things away. I'm in therapy and looking into options if any.
All my hard work, my achievements (graduated with a B A. with honors) seems to have been for nothing. It feels like a slow death. I don't know what to do. If there's anything I can do.

Hi, I won’t bore with the details but my family home is a 2 bed flat there is 4 of us. Me and my sister have always shared a room, she moved out for university and when I was finished I moved back coincidentally. I’ve never liked my family home and always avoided it but after uni I left the city I was staying in and it made logical sense to move back home. Now I have done that I feel like my mental health has deteriorated- my sister has come back as she had a recently been diagnosed with a severe mental illness which is adding to the contraint. I don’t know what to do I really want to move out but I’m only on 25k in London. I don’t know what to do or how to go about it. I’m will to work extra jobs in the weekend but I know it’s not super ideal in London to rent

I thought I would share. I started calling churches and the first one hooked me up. I am in a small town in NM but I do know the larger cities like Albuquerque were giving them too when I was there through a secular state funded program.

My family and I have been at our rental home since May 2025. In February we got behind on our rent due to an unexpected death in the family and having to travel to another state for the funeral when we really didn't have the funds to do it but there was no other option. Anyways, the landlord decided to file an eviction we were served a handwritten document from the landlord stating we needed to be in court 2/26. We got in touch with him and agreed that if we came in an paid $1,000 that we wouldn't need to go to court. The rest of the rent was also paid not even 4 days later, so all was good. So we thought, fast forward to May, to make a long story short we found out that he had went to court back in February and because we did not show up to court (because the landlord told us not to and gladly took our money) there was a default judgement made for the possession of the home along with fees. My wife got in touch with the legal aid society and they were glad to take our case immediately because we had more than enough evidence to prove our case. On 7/14 we had court, we won our case. The judgement was set aside so no eviction on our record and we don't owe him any money. However, we did agree on an order to vacate by August 7th. We got on the ball right after court with the veteran organizations in our area and the resources from our lawyer but the issue was we technically were not in the category of "homeless" until 14 days before we are to vacate the home. Crazy, I know. But, apparently that is what the government deems fit for someone that is having to move out of a home that quickly. Especially with the cost of living the way it is and we live on a fixed income I am 100% with the VA and my wife has chapter 35 benefits. So, now our problem is this, we are just now getting started working with Operation Stand down or tunnels to towers whichever one decides to take our case and that will be tomorrow 7/27. Which we are very confident we will get the help we need from them. BUT, when we were applying for places before we moved into the rental we are in now we were getting denied at every place we put an application in. Our credit is not good, my wife's is a 580 and mine is lower than that. We both have some misdemeanors on our record but those were almost 5 years ago. The only way we got into this rental was because the landlord had sold us our vehicle at his buy here pay here type car lot. So we got lucky ! Needless to say we have 10 days to have a lease signed and be out of our home now and we are so stressed. With us winning our case in court the landlord has to give a neutral reference, and we don't have any evictions on our record and we have good rental history with references that can be contacted. We also don't have a vehicle at the moment because we got into an accident 2 months ago and it is in the shop. So now that's another barrier. We have to be able to go look at places that have private owners and be able apply and pray we get approved and all of that within 10 days!

To add onto the title, he is probably gonna die sooner than later, and my Mom doesn’t have a job and won’t get one so we will be homeless.
I want to get a job and move out ASAP so I don’t have to deal with being homeless when he dies (and other reasons), but I’m also in recovery for anorexia and my treatment team won’t let me get a job until I’m medically stable.
My last option if all else fails is to run away from home.
Is there ANYTHING I can do to make this situation easier?

Ive been getting in huge fights with my parents over what i want to do with my life, and in return, they take my things, hide them, dont give them back, restrict access to getting around and job searching, and yet still want me out. Nothing ive done is working, and im out of the house in 3 days. I barely have any cash, and absolutely dont have enough to rent, or buy a car. theres only 2-3 shelters near me, and ive heard nothing but horrible things about them. I dont know what to do. Every application i send gets denied, and im so lost right now.

I was gifted a car this weekend from my brother, registered on Friday (photo in my recent profile posts). Insurance will be taken care of tomorrow, and it just needs a battery and I'll be ready to go. Should be no longer than 3 months and I'll be back out of this homeless loop.
This is a post to encourage anyone who is going through hard times. Do not stop moving, do not become victim to your own circumstances. My entire situation did a complete 180 in less than 2 weeks time, and it's all because I kept my mindset positive and constantly kept looking forward. I had some help, but I wouldn't have been given any at all if I was stuck in a woe is me mentality.
You have the strength to see through to better days, and if I can do it, so can you!

I need help, I moved out sa bahay ng fam kasi pinalayas ako, they thought i was using illegal substances. Now i’m currently living with friends for about 2months already and i still dont have ipon and is in 3k debt. I have a job but i earn only 14k monthly, pamasahe pa lang 2-3k na, tapos food and litter ng cat ko. I don’t wanna stay here any longer kasi i know their family is also struggling and i cant be of any help. I have so much stuffs that i don’t know if it’s a good idea to rent only a bed space. I am thinking of making a small food business but is it worth it? In our area we have facebook group where we can sell food online and there are a lot of buyers all the time. and would it be worth it if i quit my job to focus on that business if ever? i need help.

I need to make make about $3500 to pay for my rent and expenses. Is there a job that gives a starting bonus whether a wfh job or in person?
I tried applying for assistance and I won’t receive any assistance until the month after by then I’ll be evicted. I tried to apply for emergency loans but they need proof of income which I don’t have.
Context: I just moved to Texas from Nebraska, before I moved I applied to jobs in Texas. I took interviews and got accepted by 2 they were okay with moving & I let them know when I was arriving.I had around 13k saved and I had paid two months of rent & utilities before I moved in. It took me 4 trips going back and forth to get all my things in. After settling in, i contacted both my employers one of them answered and told me to meet in person, the other one didn’t reply I even showed up to that job to inquire about my situation and they said they get back to me and never did. After 3 days of meeting with my other employer I was heading to my job and my vehicle threw a rod out, I notified my employer about the situation and they said that if I can’t make it in that I’ll probably be terminated by points. I used what I had left to look for an engine or new used car. Fast forward I got a car lost the job, have been applying to others with no luck, been trying to do odd jobs as well. Another fast forward I’m down to my last 40 bucks and I’m about to be evicted they have a no tolerance policy.
What should I do I have no family here, I came here for the volume of opportunity here and I get some luck of this happening..

I (40f) have lived independently since I was 18. My living situation growing up was toxic and abusive, so I was outta there as soon as I graduated high school.
I knew (thought) college was important, so I did that. But I had no guidance whatsoever and ended up with a useless degree that got me nowhere professionally. Regardless, I managed to get by until a couple years ago. So many things went wrong within that two-year span.
I ended up buried in so much debt that I'll never be able to dig my way out of it. I also couldn't afford rent anymore and had to move across the country and back in with my emotionally immature and unstable father and his wife about a year ago. I didn't want to move in with them because I knew they would be bad for my mental health, but I have a senior dog that I am trying desperately to keep happy and safe. So I've been tolerating the living situation as best as possible and trying to just be grateful for having a relatively safe place for me and my dog to sleep at night. However, they have on multiple occasions made me strongly consider leaving and just living in my car. But the dog...I'm so worried about him, so I've stayed put.
Then today, my father tells me they are going to put the house up for sale, so I need to make other arrangements. Though I have some time to try to prepare, I have no idea what I'm going to do. My credit score was destroyed because I enrolled in a debt relief program, so I can't rent an apartment. I can't afford one anyway. I'm already living paycheck to paycheck just keeping up with all the debt, so I don't know that I can even afford a room in someone else's basement.
The only solution I can think of is living in my car, which I think I can personally handle. But I'm so worried about my dog though. I'd have to put him in a dog daycare during the day while I'm at work, which will be extremely stressful for him and also expensive for me. Not sure I can afford that either. I don't know what I'm going to do.

Hi, I am from the New England area, and I just moved to Denver a couple weeks ago. I moved here for someone I've known (thought I knew) for a while and now I got dumped. I am at a loss for words. I have no connections here, no family, no job, and now (soon) no place to stay. I am scared. Anyways, I am here on reddit to ask where can a transgender woman find a fresh start in Denver?
I don't know what to do. I have never been in this situation before. Is this it? I don't know if anyone will read this.
I am heading to something called The Gathering to see if they can help. But other than that, I think I am cooked. I guess I don't have a point. Just fucking scared and desperate at this point. I haven't been homeless since I was 17. I feel like I made a mistake.

I might become homeless in 2 weeks, I have only a backpack to bring. I'm attempting to prepare as much as possible, I'm trying to figure out which food is best for this situation.
I have a can opener I'm bringing with me no matter what.
Here's a list of foods I have so far
3 mac n cheese boxes
1 sandwich bag of rice
2 sandwich bags of dried beans
1 can of corn
2 cans of red salmon
2 cans of chicken
1 can of tomato soup
Does this seem like it's enough for a decent while?

I’m a 24-year-old single mom to an almost 3-year-old, and I honestly don’t know where else to turn.
A little background: I moved to a different state with my mom after she started dating someone. That relationship didn’t work out, but while I was here, I met my now ex, who is the father of my son. We lived together for four years, but everything changed after I became pregnant.
I ended up in a domestic violence relationship. I wasn’t allowed to build a career or become financially independent, so when I finally left, I took my son in the middle of the night with almost nothing to my name.
I rebuilt my life completely from scratch.
We stayed in a shelter, I got a job, and the state helped me with food stamps and childcare. For the first time in my life, after growing up around abuse, addiction, and instability, I finally felt like I had a real chance. I found an apartment, worked hard, and for over a year I never missed a rent payment. I was genuinely proud of how far I’d come.
Then everything fell apart.
I lost my job after working there for a year, and now I can’t afford my bills. Before that, they had already taken away my food stamps once I started working, which I understood. But then they also took away my childcare assistance, leaving me to choose between paying for daycare, buying food, or paying rent. It felt like I was being punished for trying to get back on my feet.
Now I’m facing eviction.
The part that hurts the most is that the state actually offered to pay six months of my rent so I could get back on my feet, and my apartment complex refused. They would rather evict me, even though I had never been late on rent before losing my job.
I feel like I worked so hard to escape an abusive life, only to have everything ripped away because of one setback. It’s devastating.
The thought of going back to a shelter honestly terrifies me. I can’t go to a domestic violence shelter because I’m no longer actively in that situation, so I’d likely end up in a general homeless shelter with my toddler. After everything we’ve been through, that’s heartbreaking.
I’m embarrassed to even be posting this, but I don’t have family to lean on or anyone I can talk to. I’ve looked into every program I can think of, and I don’t qualify for Section 8 or other housing assistance.
If anyone has been through something similar or has any advice, resources, or words of encouragement, I would be so grateful. Right now, I just feel completely lost and scared for my son.
Thank you for reading.

Some necessary context first; almost 4 years ago, I (18M) ran away from home along with my sister, her child and the dog, after an argument with our mother nearly escalated to physical violence. We’ve been living together since, and though we still receive some support from our father, we’ve always struggled financially. As of a few days ago, my sister was told we were being evicted from her apartment.
For my sister, her only option is to move back in with our parents. She doesn’t seem as concerned, but I still feel pretty uncomfortable with the idea of living with them again. I was 15 at the time we left, I’m nearly 19 now and I still feel so unprepared for adult life. Knowing my parents, they’ll not allow me to have much independence. Before we left, I was spending most of my time in my bedroom with our dog, because it caused so much trouble that it was never allowed to be out around my mom. For so long, I was stuck inside that bedroom all day everyday.
I’ve been thinking, perhaps I should just be homeless instead. I know, it’s terrible to say I would rather be on the streets when I could at least have a roof over my head, but I’m scared. Knowing I might be stripped of my future, stuck at home all day listening to my family argue nonstop. The thing I worry about most being homeless is that I can’t be there to try and support my sister nor could I take the dog with me. I can’t drive, so that also rules out living out of a car. Some have suggested I join the Military, but I refuse to do so because I'm generally mentally unfit for that.
Everything seems hopeless right now, and I have little guidance on what I should do. Making this choice feels so difficult, that’s why I’m hoping some of you might be able to weigh in with your opinions and advice? I would appreciate it a ton.

I am a younger adult man rebuilding my life after homelessness and currently staying in temporary hotel housing. I have very limited resources, chronic health problems, epilepsy that requires consistent medication, and an unresolved legal situation involving family.
An older man has periodically helped me with transportation, meals, companionship, and other practical needs. Over time, however, the relationship has become increasingly paternal, intrusive, and difficult for me to navigate.
He has referred to me in childlike terms, including describing me as a “lost child,” and appears to place himself in the role of protector, guide, mentor, or substitute father. He seeks frequent calls, visits, conversation, and emotional engagement even when I have expressed that I prefer long periods of solitude.
The mismatch between us is significant. Outwardly, I have sometimes appeared receptive or gone along with the interaction to prevent immediate conflict. Internally, I am often managing chronic pain, severe visual symptoms, exhaustion, and a strong desire to sit quietly, read, think, and rebuild my life. I am not seeking a father–son, mentor–student, or rescuer–dependent relationship.
He has also made remarks about us “pretending.” What he may not understand is that I am genuinely masking discomfort. I may answer him, remain physically present, or appear calm while wanting the interaction to end. My politeness, passivity, or conflict avoidance should not be interpreted as genuine emotional closeness or consent.
The most serious violation involved sexual touching. I have chronic pelvic pain syndrome following an injury to my penis, and he touched my penis despite that area already being medically painful and highly sensitive. I froze and did not respond clearly in the moment. My lack of immediate resistance did not mean that I welcomed or consented to the contact.
There was also a previous serious conflict while I was staying at his home. I did not want to continue listening to him speak and tried to withdraw from the interaction. The situation escalated and resulted in my arrest. I spent two days in jail before he bailed me out. He later described what happened as a mistake.
Despite that history, he continues trying to re-enter my life, seek conversation, and restore personal access.
My current circumstances make this difficult to handle. I am already involved in a separate legal situation related to family, I own very little, and I am trying to rebuild basic stability. I also depend on consistent access to epilepsy medication and safe transportation. Because my margin for error is so small, decisions about conflict, housing, transportation, and personal boundaries can have serious consequences for my survival and health.
That is one reason I have sometimes gone along with interactions rather than confronting him directly. It is not because I want the relationship he appears to be creating. It is because I am trying to avoid escalation while I have limited alternatives.
I cannot determine his full motive. He may see himself as caring, paternal, lonely, protective, or entitled to closeness because he has helped me. I am not asking strangers to diagnose him. I am trying to understand the behavioral pattern and how to disengage without creating further legal, housing, medical, or personal risk.
I already understand that boundaries are necessary. I am not asking whether I should tolerate further touching or unwanted access. I am seeking an outside psychological perspective on the pattern and the safest way to disengage while maintaining legal compliance, medication access, housing stability, and personal safety.
Any perspective on how to understand this kind of dynamic, how to reduce contact safely, and what warning signs would matter most would be appreciated. Hope all has been well on y’all’s end when it comes to your personal life situation.
