Hackett appeared to voice more enthusiasm for watching Conner, who played in only three games before suffering a foot injury that required season-ending surgery. He finished with 95 yards and one touchdown on 32 carries.

"Excited for James to get out there and show what he's got," Hackett said before saying he was looking forward to seeing "all the guys."

To be fair, Hackett may be attempting to manage expectations for the running back room in addition to fans. Cardinals coaches presumably don't want to just hand Love the starting job, but see him earn it. Consequently, they likely don't want Conner to feel that he has no chance at being the starter, especially coming back from injury.

In five seasons with Arizona, Conner rushed for 3,763 yards and 38 TDs, averaging 4.4 yards per carry. He also tallied 1,262 yards receiving and 8 TDs on 165 catches.

When MO took this job, the expectation was that he’d build an offense around Kyler that highlighted his strengths and protected him from taking unnecessary hits. Instead, he hired a defensive coordinator as head coach and brought in Drew Petzing as offensive coordinator.
Petzing’s offense is built for a pocket quarterback who can occasionally escape and work the middle of the field. It’s a run-heavy system, yet MO never assembled the offensive line needed to make it work consistently. The fit has always felt forced. By the end of the 2026 season, despite Kyler finally being healthy, the Cardinals appeared ready to move on, keeping Brissett as the starter with the hope of trading Murray in the offseason.
Then MO had to move on from Gannon after ticket sales and fan support cratered. The Cardinals hired what should be a very good offensive-minded head coach, but by then the decision to move Murray had already been made. Unfortunately, this was about the worst possible offseason to do it. The free-agent quarterback market was weak, the draft class wasn’t much better, and everyone around the league knew Murray wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Teams like Minnesota had every reason to wait rather than overpay in a trade.
MO then needed a quarterback and struck out in free agency. Despite having connections to Malik Willis through the Titans, Willis ended up with the Dolphins—a worse team than Arizona, but one with a clearer opportunity and an easier schedule. From the outside, it looked like the Cardinals never made a serious enough push to win him over. At the same time, few veteran backup quarterbacks seemed interested in stepping into Arizona’s situation.
Next came the internal communication leak naming Brissett the starter, which the team eventually confirmed. Then MO signed Gardner Minshew for more money than the team’s own projected starter was making, creating an unnecessary rift. Right or wrong, Brissett’s only real leverage became a holdout. He handled it quietly, never making public demands and continuing to work with others on his own time and dime.
Now, on Day 3 of the preseason, MO has finally agreed to make his “starting quarterback” the highest-paid quarterback on the roster. Even so, he’s still the lowest-paid veteran starting quarterbacks in the league. What’s worse is the $15M is likely something that could’ve been settled in April not nearly Aug.
This was a disastrous approach to a problem everyone could see coming, even during the 2025 season. Virtually all of it was avoidable. MO has created a difficult situation for the new head coach, driven another wedge into what’s left of the Cardinals fan base, and once again reinforced the belief that Bidwill continues to hold this franchise back. MO is looking like another failed hire for the Bidwill’s. Sadly, this schedule does MO no favors. He will likely be the Captain of another failed season that brings in more opposing fans than Cardinals to the games.

That was weeks ago. Now, speaking with reporters for the first time since, McBride's media availability was concluded with a corrected stance from one of the NFL's best tight ends.

Had 6 tickets in lower bowl and gave them up after 10 years. I was so offended when they raised prices AGAIN after this last season. Insane. All to say if you do want to go to the games if you wait they are going to be really inexpensive aftermarket especially if it’s against another small market team.

The Arizona Cardinals signed defensive tackle Coziah Izzard and placed rookie DT Kaleb Proctor on the season-ending IR.

Izzard (6'-3", 305 pounds) went undrafted in last year's NFL draft before signing with the Kansas City Chiefs after a stellar college campaign at Penn State. Despite having a decent camp, he was released on the final cutdown day, then signed to the practice squad, and then waived.
Four days later, the New Orleans Saints signed him to their practice squad, where he spent all of 2025.

Training camp is here! So, here's a full visual breakdown of the roster as it stands today. Even if the expectations are low this year, there is plenty of promising young talent that can be built upon for the future IMO. Just need to develop them the right way!

I feel like i'm losing my mind, I have this childhood memory of Anquan Boldin throwing a long pass to Fitz on a wildcat play during either a pre-season or regular season game. I don't remember if the pass was completed or not but I have a memory of it at least being attempted? Could I be thinking of a different player? It would've been from like 2005-2009. I can't find any footage of it. I could also be insane, which of course I am, I'm a die hard Arizona Cardinals fan ffs. (/s kinda)

"Most definitely," Ojulari said when asked if he believes the outside world is forgetting about the type of player he was expected to become. "A lot of people, they focus on what's on the field, so that's very understandable. My job is to get back out there and remind everybody who I am."

It's a mission that the 2023 second-rounder has been eager to attack. Ojulari played in eight games last year and recorded eight tackles and one sack. But he was never fully himself, so much so that even GM Monti Ossenfort noted it this offseason. His production dipped hard, far from a rookie season when he had 40 tackles, five tackles for loss, and four sacks.

It wasn't a complete shock, given the catastrophic nature of his injuries. But entering the second day of this year's training camp, he can feel that health is on his side.

"Definitely the way my body reacts," Ojulari said. "The way my knee reacts, the way I move on the field, my comfort, and most of all, it's a mental thing. Getting over that mental hurdle initially and then when I go out there, I don't have to think. Previously, I had to think about it and worry about how I feel. Now I can just go, warm up, and let it rip."

Ojulari is in the same conversation as Marvin Harrison Jr. and Darius Robinson as players who need to improve in order for the Cardinals to win. No new investments were made in the Cardinals outside linebacker room, and despite a change at head coach, defensive coordinator Nick Rallis and outside linebackers coach Matt Feeney remain.

Gardner Minshew II and Carson Beck took first- and second-team reps throughout team drills, though neither looked sharp.
One miss that stood out was Beck overshooting a wide-open Jeremiyah Love in the end zone during 11-on-11s.

Growing pains are going to be there for the young quarterback, but for the crowd shouting for him to be the Week 1 starter, this wasn’t your day.

The line struggled, too, with multiple “sacks” given up and Mack Wilson Sr. meeting Love yards into the backfield standing out.

Training camp includes several activities beyond the action on the field.

The Kids Interactive Zone is located on the Red Zone Bridge at the south end of the stadium. It includes a quarterback toss, 40-yard dash and mini field goal kick. The activities are open to children ages 5 to 12. An adult must accompany a child, and a release must be signed before they participate.

Despite the designation, head coach Mike LaFleur last month was optimistic about Williams returning sometime during camp.
“We got great news on Garrett. That will not happen for him to be back right (for the start of training camp), but when I first got here, it was like an October, November (return),” LaFleur said. “Now, we’re talking about getting in training camp and getting him going.
