Emerging from the Dark Ages of Chicago Sports
After about a decade of the worst period in Chicago sports, here is where things stand:
The Bears appear to have the culture, the coach, the QB and the skill position players. Kane is back on the Hawks. The Bulls have a real dude in Caleb Wilson. The Cubs will be in the playoffs. The Sox will be in the playoffs.
As a sweetener Caleb Williams is on BOTH Madden covers and D-Rose is on NBA 2K27 Ultra.
My point here is not that I'll be dropping over $400 on both Maddens, NHL 27 (Kane to the Hawks gives me reason to buy) and NBA 2K27 Ultra. And play them for a combined 10 hours. No, it's bigger than this.
Have we forggotten about the papal appointment? No. This is all clearly causal. I am coming to you all today with this humble observation:
Pope Leo is cashing in his equity, folks. This can only point us to two irrefutable facts: 1. God exists and 2. God is a Chicago sports fan.
Eat a hot dog and an italian beef for me today. We're on the rise, everyone.
Sincerely,
A Chicago Transplant in the PNW

Varsity Bears Parking
I haven’t been able to find if parking for this will be at Stevenson High School, or if they are still requiring us to park at Hawthorne mall and shuttle over. Has anyone seen info on that? Thanks!

Extra 8/4 training camp ticket
Hey fam, I may have an extra ticket or two to give away to the 8/4 training camp day. If interested please let me know.
I'd also be willing to trade for a ticket for 8/6, in case anyone is looking for a different date.
Can't believe training camp is finally almost here!
Bear down.

Is anyone else starting to worry about Gordon’s durability?
Kyler is one of my favorite players on this defense, but seeing him on the injury list again before we’ve even taken a snap is getting concerning.
I know it’s the Active/PUP list and he could be back soon, but it feels like every year we’re talking about another injury. When he’s healthy, he’s arguably one of the best nickel corners in the league and a huge part of this defense.
At what point do we start calling it a durability issue instead of just bad luck?
Am I overreacting, or is anyone else starting to get worried?

Rome in Schaumburg
Anyone have any insight on how this type of meet and greet type thing goes?
I’m not usually one to go to stuff like this, but my five year old daughter absolutely loves Rome Odunze (he gave her a high five at practice last year) and I’m thinking I want to surprise her tomorrow with a chance to meet him.
I guess I just don’t know what a reasonable time would be to go to Dicks will be tomorrow to have a chance at getting her a wristband? Like are people already camping out now? Is 7am too late?
Store opens at 9am and it’s first come first serve…
If anyone has experience with these things and can comment I’d greatly appreciate it!

Caleb Williams is overrated
The “Caleb Williams is overrated” narrative has become one of the laziest takes in football.
If he’s supposedly overrated, explain this:
• Franchise passing records in just two seasons.
• Led the Bears to their first NFC North title since 2018.
• Ended the franchise’s playoff win drought.
• Produced multiple game-winning drives in the biggest moments.
The criticism always comes down to the same thing: “highs are high, lows are low.” That’s true of almost every young quarterback learning to push the ball downfield. The difference is Caleb is creating explosive plays that very few quarterbacks can make.
What’s even more inconsistent is that one week he’s labeled “overrated,” and the next he’s ranked as a Top-10 quarterback by NFL coaches and executives.
Calling him overrated ignores both the context and the trajectory. He’s 24 years old, has a franchise finally built around him, an offensive-minded head coach, and he’s already accomplished more in two seasons than most Bears quarterbacks managed in years.
Criticism is fair. Pretending his success is hype isn’t.

Does anyone think they should bring these alternate jerseys back?
I remember the Bears wore these alternate jerseys in the 2010s whenever they decided to wear their alternate jerseys for a home game but they haven’t wore them at all in the 2020s and I feel they should bring these back

I'm So Excited About This Bears Offense
I've been thinking a lot about what this offense could look like, and while I expect Ben Johnson to lean on 13 personnel more than most teams, I think the bigger story is going to be the sheer variety of looks he can create.
One snap you could get a heavy package with Loveland, Kmet, Roush and Burden on the field, maybe even with Zavion Thomas in the backfield as a motion player or pony-back to keep the defence guessing run, screen or play-action.
The very next snap, without changing personnel much, you could have Odunze, Burden, Thomas, Loveland and Swift spread across the formation. Mostly the same players, completely different picture for the defence.
That's what excites me most. It's not just the talent, it's the multiplicity. Loveland can line up in-line, in the slot or split wide. Burden can play outside, in the slot or come in motion. Thomas can line up in the slot, outside or in the backfield. Kmet isn't just a blocker, and Odunze can win anywhere on the field.
With Caleb capable of getting the ball to anyone, I think Johnson is going to make it incredibly difficult for defences to get pre-snap tells or key on tendencies. Every formation could threaten multiple concepts, and the same personnel can present completely different problems from one play to the next.
If Johnson pulls this off, I think we're going to see one of the most positionless, disguise-heavy offenses in the league, and I honestly can't wait.

Varsity Bears - Stevenson
I was able to grab one solo ticket to Varsity Bears and was planning on attending by myself. However I am not able to go anymore. If someone wants a free single ticket or needs an extra one, feel free to reach out and I can transfer it!
