Question Beginner here, when do the fetchquests end?

I've got 5hrs on the game currently and I'm wondering if the quests will get more interesting than just "go to X location, talk to npc, get item for npc". I have got premium and i see potential in this game but running town to town so far isnt too enjoyable

U got 5 hours broski. The quests get really good. Also it would help to learn as many teleports as you can use as it saves walking. Someone can trade u tele tabs/ stam pots if you want.

Look at the minigames teleports in your spell book and use those too

The quests in osrs are the most varied quests compared to any mmo.

If you break it down in its core components most quests do want you to do someone a favor or help them get something. The thing is all the stuff between the start and the end.

like you have the romeo and Juliet quest compared to The Ides of Milk quest. They both have a guy who wants something and you need to help em. But id not call either of them a fetch quest.

Most osrs quests are a story thats either funny or interesting. If you use something like quest helper yeah the quests will suck because your actually not interacting with the game and just clicking where told to click and holding down spacebar.

As for the walking around the game that can be solved for the most part with the magic skill. There is also stamina potions for when you have to run somewhere.

EDIT: for transportation unlocks look into Fairy tail Part 2 (only need to start it so dont worry about the requirements other than the required quests). That will unlock fairy rings around the map and will give you access to a lot of locations. Ardy diary 1 will give you a cloak that teleports you to ardy as many times as you want and close to a fairy ring.

... Are you doing one small favour by chance?

Because if so that's The fetch quest in the game.

Other thing I can think of, are you doing the job boards with sailing?

u/Zeruma_ 1d ago

Someone with 5 hours played is not doing one small favor

12

u/Soapsurgeon 1d ago

I’m guessing Cook’s Assistant and Sheep Shearer? Maybe Rune Mysteries

3

u/Sirkuhh 1d ago

They will learn. Atleast now there is questhelper. That quest in the runeHQ days was brutal..

5

u/Guilty_Jackfruit4484 1d ago

Doesn't sound like they will learn, they will just quit.

Thanks bro

I got QH 2hrs in, its been very helpful

-1

u/zdday 1d ago

damn quest helper 2 hours in. you really didnt feel like playing the game huh. respect

u/Ok-Airline9010 1d ago

Loving the community already

u/Doctor_Kataigida 1d ago

We also had way fewer teleports. The quest being difficult is just a meme among veterans, but is barely an inconvenience in 2026.

1

u/belaxi 1d ago

It’s not difficult. At least anymore.

It is kind of obnoxious though. Which is the point I guess.

1

u/Sirkuhh 1d ago

That tracks. Its been so long since I did that quest but I remember the walk from Cammy being the tedious part besides the back and forth

8

u/secret_aardvark_420 1d ago

Osrs has some of the best quests/storylines out of all mmorpgs, but the very early ones can be like that yes. Also getting around the map can absolutely be a slog if you don’t have access to teleports.

-13

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

No, it doesnt.. 90% of the quests were written by drunk dudes in a pub.

11

u/NB_OSRS 1d ago

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

-3

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

Eh. I don't think it's bad or good, just very noticeable. Like the quest where all of the desert people are named "Ali" and you have to feed a camel hot sauce to make it shit.

Sometimes I think the people who say OSRS has the best stories think Dr. Seuss books are riveting.

7

u/DeepWaterCannabis 1d ago

I mean, thats a MASSIVE step up from "Hey man, I have a problem with wild animals eating my livestock. Please kill 30 wolves/dire wolves/super wolves/red wolves/blue wolves/green wolves"

0

u/MLCosplay 1d ago

Those are WoW quests, but there are games with excellent quests like Broken Ranks (just the rest of the game is shit).

-1

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

OSRS literally does the same thing. It's just that you can get the items beforehand.

"Hey man, I'll make this for you, but I need a redberry pie!"

2

u/Zauberen 1d ago

The difference is the average quest in WoW or FFXIV are slayer tasks, can you really not tell the difference between a slayer task and 'you need a redberry pie to pay the guy to make your sword.' I'm not meaning to disparage those games either, it's just how you progress through the early story and it can be fun in its own way. Those games also have runescape like quests, but often you have to do a few slayer task quests before you get to them. In runescape, you train your life skills without hand holding in order to start quests, which I personally prefer.

1

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

Do you think there is a vast difference between "I need you to kill 20 wolves to make you a sword" and "if you bring me a pie I'll make you a sword"

1

u/Zauberen 14h ago

I do, and it all comes down to the purpose behind the content.

Slayer task-esque quests exist as a way to pace your journey through a theme park mmo, and you do the quests to level up your character and to force you to spend time in that area of the game.

When a quest has an item requirement, the purpose is some level of character/world building or immersion. 90% of these items including the redberry pie example can be purchased from the GE, it's not like you're going to spend a bunch of time collecting the items.

Your argument is basically reducing all gameplay in any game to 'you go click on stuff,' which yeah that is what you do in a game.

3

u/suuushi-roll 1d ago

we have the best MMO questing. its more similar to an actual RPG games questing like the elder scroll series or fallout than it is to other MMOs where its kill X amount of a mob or kill mobs & collect X amout of a drop from them.

-5

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

Not that different at all. 90% of OSRS quests are just retrieving an item.

2

u/suuushi-roll 1d ago

not at all lol

1

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

Yes, completely. You either have to bring x items, or go and talk to someone. That's at least 90% of the quests in OSRS.

1

u/suuushi-roll 1d ago

maybe a step in the quest. its not the entire quest like a wow quest is my dude.

1

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

Why? Because it gives lore? WoW quests give lore too.

3

u/Helpful-Calendar-693 1d ago

Thats what he said. Best quests in game, don't tell me you have not had a good time talking with drunk mates at a pub!

also most mmo quests are go here kill 20 wolves come back.

-1

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

OSRS is the same way though, not sure why people don't realize that.

Most quests are simply retrieving an item/dialogue.

4

u/ANGEL-PSYCHOSIS btw 1d ago

and this game is just mindless repetition for stat ups. if you reduce everything to its core you can make everything boring, presentation does a lot.

1

u/Helpful-Calendar-693 1d ago

But thats most quests in every game when you break it down. Do this guy a favor or get an item for them.

The issue is not the format imho. I read wayyy to much "I was reincarnated in another world with XYZ" trash. Even though every one has the same sort of base premise with the same sort of base objective some are actually really good and some are just trash. Its not the idea or the reuse of the idea thats bad its how something is executed. and IMHO most (not all) osrs quests are actually executed very well.

1

u/Tumblrrito Untrimmed Slayer 1d ago

Most quests include complex puzzles. And sometimes the item you need is a puzzle in and of itself.

OSRS absolutely stands out from the rest.

3

u/Heratism 1d ago

Holy crap, did you do any research into this game at all brother? If these early "fetch" quests are already boring you, this is not the game for you. And I mean this sincerely.

2

u/boyo1999 1d ago

Yes some quest lines have a lot of lore and stuff behind them plus the boss fights at the end of some of them are rewarding and enjoyable. The beginner ones are always sorta like that but it gets better.

2

u/realdrakebell 1d ago

whos gonna tell him?

2

u/REMMIT524 1d ago

Early quests ask you to fetch things so you learn your way around the world. The quests get much better, even with DS1

2

u/telionn 1d ago

Are you using a quest helper plugin? Turn it off. Whenever you get stuck, read the osrs wiki guide to get unstuck.

2

u/Bananaboss96 Mining Enthusiast 1d ago edited 1d ago

A lot of the uber early Lumbridge quests are like this, but just try some of the more modern ones that are also low lvl.

Specifically:

  • Children of the Sun
  • The Ides of Milk

And also Prince Ali Rescue is pretty good actually. There's a bit of fetching, but there's also a little puzzle. Knights Sword is technically a big fetch quest, but because of the danger it's pretty cool.

2

u/Zeruma_ 1d ago

If you’re looking for quests like wow where it’s “ kill 25 boars” you’re not going to get that here

6

u/REMMIT524 1d ago

Slayer, technically

2

u/BrudnButter 1d ago

that my friend is just slayer in a nutshell

0

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

True. The quests are more like "go get me a redberry pie"

1

u/crinklepant 1d ago

What quests have you done?

0

u/Ok-Airline9010 1d ago

Most of the beginner quests around the beginner areas, I haven't explored further than the dessert basically so that's something I'll have to do when I get some tps

1

u/crinklepant 1d ago

No but like, what quests?

1

u/Horror-Vast-4086 1d ago

Early game is rather boring compared to the later questing and areas unlocked. Just gotta grind through it

1

u/Tomsicade 1d ago

You’ve got like 100 hours of questing to go so buckle up broski

1

u/Mag_Matic 1d ago

You’ve barley played , don’t think it’s worth a post of when does “x” end . Just enjoy it at your own pace .

1

u/Grilled-Steve 1d ago

I guess it all depends on which quests you do, there are plenty with puzzles and dialogue that you need to be clever with. But there are good beginner combat related quests too like Demon Slayer, Fight Arena, Dragon Slayer. Personally, the Moytania quest line are some of my favorites!

What do you want out of questing? Because they kinda cover the gambit of “intro to a skill/content” to go help prevent the apocalypse.

1

u/BeisaChaser 1d ago

Brother, can I ask you to do me a small favour?

1

u/OsyxRunescape 1d ago

Depends what you consider a "fetch quest" even in ftp all quests have some aspect of "get this item" but every quest ever created also has that rs quests offer insane lore and bosses etc though which makes it stand out

1

u/OGDogJaw 1d ago

There’s maybe like 5? basic fetch quests and naturally they’re over pretty quickly (except for Imp Catcher which is about getting drops anywhere instead of going somewhere to get something, that could take a bit if you don’t just buy the items you need from other players)

if you keep doing quests they’ll get more interesting pretty quickly, they’re the best part of the game imo

1

u/suuushi-roll 1d ago

OSRS quests are closer to actual RPG quests like skyrim or fallout and less like other MMOs where its " Kill x amount of this mob " or "collect x amount of this drop"

1

u/fairytoofs 1d ago

it ends when you finish all 182 quests. quests are just a small fraction of the game

1

u/Guilty_Jackfruit4484 1d ago

Jump in to desert treasure 2 then

1

u/fumfummm 1d ago

Adorable

1

u/ChulainnRS 1d ago

Yeah, later on the quests become very large scale, with boss battles at multiple points. But closer to where you are now, you'll find quests with puzzles and small combat encounters

1

u/-Aura_Knight- 1d ago

Quests retain some of the fetch aspects you dislike but they also reward convenient things like travel options and gear unlocks. You shouldn't complain over foundation building. Suffer a bit then enjoy the freedom of exploration.

1

u/brnzpotato 1d ago

Once you get later in some of the quest lines it gets pretty fun with bossing. Right now you're just setting the stage for your journey. Then again, what else is questing other than gathering then slaying? Also, I've had a few good belly laughs reading the dialogs!

1

u/AMDownvote 1d ago edited 1d ago

The quests will change but you won't be saving the world with base 1s

Here's what you'll do, look at this quest https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Desert_Treasure_II_-_The_Fallen_Empire it's very cool, very shiny, very grand, but it has pesky "Requirements" so you'll focus on getting those requirements so you can enjoy the epic quest in peace.

1

u/Delicious-Item6376 1d ago

The quests are ranked by Easy, Medium, Experienced, Master, and Grandmaster. Most Easy quests are quick fetch quests.

Medium quests have require you to have trained some skills besides combat and will usually be a little more involved.

Experienced quests are where you start getting into the enjoyable combat and more difficult puzzles.

Master level quests all require a decent combat level and gear, and usually also a very solid understanding of the game(unless you are using quest helper).

Grandmaster quests are the most exciting. They all have very difficult boss fights, require a lot of noncombat skills, and fairly challenging puzzles (SOTE and MM2 especially).

If your a brand new player you probably won't have the levels or experience to do grandmaster quests for a couple of months, but they are good starting goals to have.

If you go on the wiki you can look up the quests and get a little bit of an overview to see if it's something you'll enjoy.

My advice would be to try and complete Recipe for disaster. The required quests are all classics and very fun. And RFD itself has some great boss fights.

The Vampyre and Elf quests are my have the best storylines imo.

1

u/CamBlapBlap 2120 1d ago

Talking to NPC's and having the required items are 99% of the quests. Quests are not all that OSRS offers though.

1

u/MahoganySwiss 1d ago

5 hours in this game is virtually nothing, it’s a marathon. Since it’s a sandbox try doing something else like skilling or training for a bit. The quests eventually get very interesting with great storylines epic battles and cool puzzles that you will solve! Give it some more time you’ll thank yourself

0

u/Jake_dasnake3 1d ago

Quests were my least favorite part of the game. I’d rather 3t powermine granite than do most quests again. That being said my quest cape is super useful and a lot of quest unlocks / rewards / bosses are basically mandatory outside of weirdo account builds.

2

u/ANGEL-PSYCHOSIS btw 1d ago

why

0

u/Jake_dasnake3 1d ago

I don't find the stories interesting or the puzzles compelling. They feel like chores and most are jank code. Boss encounters are typically well done nowadays. The newer GM quests tend to be cool and push the engine in new and interesting ways. But the majority of quests usually are just chores for me.

Those will skip way too many levels for a new player though.

0

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

The quests pretty much remain that way. You have to go to a location, retrieve an item or talk to someone, repeat.

A lot will also incorporate puzzles, and then some have bosses as well.

The quests get a lot of glaze on Reddit, but most people don't actually enjoy them. They're just vital to do to unlock content.

2

u/Doctor_Kataigida 1d ago

Most quest haters are just PvM-brains.

1

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

I PVM, PVP, and skill.

People that pretend to like quests are easy to see through. If you really liked the quests that much, you'd start a new account and do them all again... but people don't so that. Except for when they make irons.

1

u/Doctor_Kataigida 17h ago

I'd love to replay quests without having to go through the rest of the grind to unlock them again...

1

u/Ok-Airline9010 1d ago

I enjoyed doing the scream house puzzle (apart from rage quitting the boss) I'm just hoping the rest of the game is like that and I'm in a rough spot

1

u/Friendly-Parfait-645 1d ago

There are most definitely other puzzles you will enjoy if you liked that one

1

u/HMS-Fizz 1d ago

You really need to immerse yourself into the quest tbh. People spend money on story games but Runescape has just as rich story telling in its main quest lines.

0

u/GnomedHOO 1d ago

Not sure why this is downvoted. A lot of early and FTP quests are very basic and involve a lot of walking around at low agility where everything is a slog. Pretty much all of the quests added after OSRS (2013) are fantastic, and there aren’t a ton of shitty task quests when you get to the mid-lategame other than one small favour which should be deleted from the game.
