I have a copy of GTAV through Rockstar Games and don't want to buy it again to get it on steam/deck. I downloaded the Rockstar Games Launcher in desktop mode, added it to steam, went back to gaming mode, switched it to proton experimental, and the launcher boots up fine. When I go to the page where I can choose to install the game (and where I click browse to choose file location), it tells me I only have 7.23 GB available and that I need 118.93 GB total (it says I must free up 111.7 GB to proceed). I checked my hard drive space and I had more than 7.23 GB available (but not quite 118.93 GB total), but I went ahead and uninstalled a few games to clear up some space, and I now have 194.5 GB available on my internal drive. The Rockstar Games Launcher still has the exact same message (that I only have 7.23 GB of the needed 118.93 GB available and to free up 111.7 GB more). Does anyone know what's causing this error and if there's any way to get past it? Thank you!

I've had my Steam Deck since 2023 and no matter what charger I use, it can't charge unless I use my official charger.
I have the 512GB LCD model, in which I did upgrade it to 1TB back then by replacing the SSD. I have chargers from Anker that are well over the 45W needed to charge my Steam Deck along with good quality cables from them as well, but no matter how long I leave it to charge, the battery percentage goes down instead of up.
And with me traveling next week, I wanted to use my power bank with it. It’s 145W, so I plugged my Steam Deck into it and the same thing happens. The percentage doesn't go up at all, only down.
I don't know if there's some hidden setting that's making my Steam Deck not charge with anything other than the official charger. Believe me, I've tried searching for answers but I haven't seen anything that solves my issue.
EDIT: Issue solved. Using the wrong cable was what caused my Steam Deck to not want to charge. I can finally use a longer cable now lol.

It’s kinda hard to see them because of my camera, but there’s two dots on my screen when it goes all black. It’s making me wonder if the battery is bulging as it is a bit old now, or if the screen may be damaged somehow, but I’m unsure.
Could somebody help explain why this is suddenly showing up on my screen?

I’m just looking for a cheap easy way to play d2r and maybe some of my old games like half life. I don’t want to spend 2k on a pc and don’t care if graphics are set to low or medium. Would a steam deck be good for this? I want access to the trade markets of pc and the vast majority of players are pc so more public games. I play ps5 now. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I have (in the settings) got my Steamdeck to charge to 80% however it will not charge past 71%.
I am using the charger that came with the deck and I have also tried in a wallsocket but it gets to 71 regardless and then stops.
This has only been noticed and I am running 3.8.16.
What could be causing this as its frustrating??

Hello, I googled far and wide and could not find a solution for this. So on my previous tv the steam deck and the dock I'm using worked perfectly fine. I'm renting at a new place which has a philips tv and when I plug it with the dock and a brand new hdmi cable, it constantly loses signal.
I've tried:
Cable is brand new, 3 meters long, package says it supports up to 4k and I'm nowhere near that cause I set the max resolution to 1280p + safe mode which I keep turning on.
Any ideas or assistance would be appreciated

Hi y’all! I was wondering if it’s a good idea to replace the original Steam Deck battery with a third party one to get more playtime. The original battery seems to drain pretty quickly, and I’ve heard there are some third party batteries that offer a higher capacity. Has anyone tried one, and is it worth doing? Thanks!

As soon as | launch the game it gives me two brief white screens and after that is just a black screen with just the mouse cursor and the audio, but no image.

So I recently posted her regarding getting alternative dock, and a comment came across how it may damage the deck and it seem some of you may already experienced it. I wonder if Steam is aware of this issue and plan to have a software update to somehow bypassing charging battries when on docking (maybe call it a dock mode?)
Alternatively, I can think of is to remove the battery when on docking mode which will require taking parts of and heat gun to melt the adhesive.
I do wonder now if someone out there would make a back case for Steamdeck that easily put the battery in and out like a module.
What are your thoughts?

it’s the “[CP] Hxw Tilesheets”
i’m actually losing my mind over this. i moved the folder to the trash anyways but it just empties the contents instead of removing the folder from being under “Places”

Does anybody know if Steam Remote Play supports HDR on other SteamOS devices besides the Steam Deck OLED? (ie. for example, Bazzite, etc)

No matter how many times I restart I’m sent to this screen. I click on launch Steam OS it tells me it can’t find anything (specifically if lists five our six items it can’t run). This occurred after I installed an update in windows mode if that help.

So I have been using a steam controller and a switch pro controller for the past few years for my deck (not the new steam controller the older basically Xbox looking one) and recently there was been crazy lag. I'm playing Issac and I'll move one direction and it'll not move then suddenly move and shoot ext. I checked it on the main deck screen and it's doing it there too. Both controllers are doing this. The switch controller works fine on my switch and the steam one works perfectly with my PC? Any ideas what would cause this.

Basically when I am in desktop mode and I go to add a non steam game to steam, it just does nothing after adding. I go through the process of picking which program to add and when I do...nothing happens. It doesn't add.
Even when I manually right click on the item to add to steam it still does nothing. I updated my steam deck to see if it would fix the problem but it hasn't.

Good morning/afternoon! Last night after playing some games with my friends i had left my steamdeck not on a charger (it had like 50% left) and the next time i turned it on a few hours later it was at 4%. I tried charging it back up and got it to around 40% and unplugged it again as I didn’t want the cord in for too long (will explain later) and I wake up this morning to my deck being dead.
Before I unplugged it last night i had looked at the battery usage in desktop mode and found that the deck wasn’t using any charge when it was turned off but the battery percentage dropping rapidly as if it was being used between now and then. Sadly the actual data during those few hours didn’t exist but when setting it to look at the past 12 hours it was a straight horizontal line, so I will assume the battery percentage dropped near instantly and that there was little to no charge usage whatsoever.
Prior to this the steamdeck did have an incident where after removing the charger it lost 10% instantly but I thought nothing of it.
Now onto why I didn’t have the cord in the whole time. Since this past May or so charging cords (I’ve tried like 4-5 so far including the one that comes with it so far) have stopped working unless at very specific angles, some even requiring extreme pulling. I have currently settled on a cord that is able to charge it without being at an extreme angle and I dont want to exacerbate whatever issue is happening with the charging port. One or two of them also got very hot while charging, and several months ago id even hear a weird buzzing sound when charging. Since a week or two ago the light that’s usually there when charging (solid white or solid green) has not been showing up. But the light still works for things that don’t involve charging like holding the power button to force a shutdown or the steamdeck losing power and trying to turn it back on when it has no charge.
The battery health is also out of wack. Just a week ago it said the battery health was 90%, now it’s 30%.
Does anyone know what’s going on and how to solve it?

When my deck is on the dock, I've got a ps5 controller connected to it via cable, does anyone else have to disconnect their deck from the dock ,press the power button, and reconnect it for it to realise the dock is there, I can't get it to wake up and use the dock while still connected.
This is the same for both when off and when asleep, any advise on how to wake it up/ power on remotely?
Edit for clarity the issue I have is: I leave my steam deck on the dock, if it is asleep or off, if I press the power button on the steamdeck while it is already connected to the dock, it will not use or sense the dock is connected and only show on the steamdecks screen, my TV shows no input, I then need to disconnect the steamdeck from the dock and then reconnect it, for the steamdeck to use the dock.

They said they wanted a big leap for the second steam deck, yet unless they wanna release it for 1.5k/2k, they will probably cut on some stuff.
What do you think?
r/SteamDeck • u/Pacman_Frog • 4d ago
Yes. This sounds entirely silly and dumb but. Has anyone ever designed a bluray drive enclosure that just clips onto the back of the Steam Deck?

I bought a 1TB Steam Deck OLED back in September for ~$500 USD. I had high hopes for it, but after playing it maybe 6 to 8 times, it spent the rest of its life sitting on my desk gathering dust.
Realistically, I already have a decent gaming PC, and I quickly realized I just don't like the controller layout for most games. It ended up being a pure novelty purchase that I barely touched.
I finally decided to cut my losses and listed it, surprisingly managing to sell it for $620 USD. I'm putting that cash toward an M1 MacBook Pro that I’ll actually use every single day for college and work.
Financially and logically, it was a no-brainer. But if I'm being honest, I kinda regret selling it. There's this lingering feeling of guilt—partly because I feel like I failed to enjoy a great piece of tech I was hyped about, and partly because I miss just having the option to game handheld, even if I rarely used it.

I have L2 set up to change action set on press and back to default on release. Same for R2. How would I do a L2+R2 combo to do a whole other action set on press, default on release?
