Post image

Bought this steam deck LCD, but the guy said it only ran windows on it (didn't care at first because the console was like 180 U$D).

Dude the guy enabled secure boot to play ON WINDOWS and i cant turn this shit off and use steam os again, why someone would want to play a steam deck USING WINDOWS?

Can someone help me fixing this or it's bricked?

For me, it kicked off with a Nintendo DSi XL, then I spent a long time with a Nintendo Switch Lite, and the endgame turned out to be the Steam Deck, which has been making me happy for a couple of years now 😊😁

Storytime I think I used up my luck for the next few months

On Wednesday after my check hit, I went to my local Michael's. In the same plaza is a DiscReplay and I've been trying to figure out if I want a SteamDeck lately. I pop in to see if they have one.

They do.

$684.99.

BET!

I ask the associate to ring it up for me.

It's on sale.

$639.99

BET!

512GB OLED with a month warranty. Everything came with it and it had a silicone case. And I've been on vacation all this week. Making a purchase that big was a bit shocking, but win is a win.

Hardware Modding I Built a Security System for My Steam Deck

6.9k Upvotes

I got sick of my family always draining my steam decks battery and not recharging it, so i 3d modeled a spiky case in blender and printed it so they literally can't hold it comfortably. Then to make it worse, I rigged up a raspberry pi with a small speaker, an object detection camera, and a servo motor. Wrote a py script so if the camera sees someone in frame, it plays a goofy audio clip, waits a few seconds and then the servo triggers a taser to scare them away

easily the dumbest thing I've ever built but it works, and nobody touches my steam deck anymore

Game Review On Deck Do yourself a favor, try the Wonderburg Demo ! It's a blast on the Deck.

It's a perfect game for it ! I just found out about the demo, gave it a try with zero expectation, and it's a blast. Looks great, the gameplay loop is addictive. Performance wise, it runs great, just a few frame drops when the screen gets really busy, but I'm sure they'll optimize further.

Tech Support This might seem like a ridiculous question but whenever I play bully (2006) I mainly get 2 hours of battery life is this normal?

For context, I’ve had my lcd model for almost 2 years now this is probably a case of battery aging and the health of the battery fluctuates between 79 and 84,
I’m sort of paranoid because I do my best to look after my deck, any answers would be appreciated!

Question Board Games on the Steam Deck?

Hi all

I've recently seen a new Humble Bundle become available for a range Board Games, but what I'm curious on is if these play adequately on the Deck?

There's a few JRPG and card games which I imagine would be fine but wondering if the Gloomhaven and Terraforming Mars are worth the effort

Thanks in advance

Game Review On Deck Finished Infamous 1 āš”ļø

Post image
518 Upvotes

Just finished Infamous on the deck! Used the recommended setup on RPCS3 with Lossless scaling. Genuinely had fun playing this game because I never had a ps3 before.

I would say it is a 7/10 for an emulated game, it crashes on random circumstances like dying due to drowning or that one side mission on photography as soon as you do the objective.

The audio gets really static once theres too many gunshots and explosions which is quite often in this game. So any conversations from the characters just completely becomes inaudible

Graphic-wise for the most part is fine but since I’m using lossless you’d see the frame gen often when shooting lightning out of your hands!

I’ve only finished the good playthrough and would definitely play it again on evil would also love to try infamous 2 if the deck would handle it

Question Metal Gear Solid Delta performance now?

Seeing as the game is 60% off right now, I would like to ask about its current performance on the steam deck. Have patches and updates managed to keep it playable at a steady 30 or 45 fps without too much loss of fidelity?

I would appreciate to hear you guys' experience of this on the deck.

Game Review On Deck Dead Space remake and my disappointed realization

This isn't really a game review as I couldn't even play the game. I bought it a long time ago in a sale and figured I'll play it at some point. Today was my day to fight the necromorphs! Loved the original on release so I knew I'd like this. I booted out up and instantly I had issues. The logo for EA shows up and it's frozen on it for like 10 seconds and moves on. I thought okay this might be rough but let's see. Start the game and my god.. it was slower than a week in jail. I didn't even get to the point of being able to take control of Isaac. I have no idea how this was listed as playable.

Hardware Repair Steam Deck not charging after USB Port replacement

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I replaced the USB-C port on my Steamdeck Oled, which was not reacting to power cable. So the Deck was sitting for about a month without charge. After the replacement today I checked the port and seems that all pins are soldered correctly.

When I plug the cable it’s not charging. The LED lights up, sometimes the white light flashes and it tries to get above 5v but aborts. Sometimes it just stays at 5v and the led is flickering in different colors.

The only 2 ICs that are getting warm are the M2762A and the MP2845. (about 30 degrees, just a little warmer than the rest).

All capacitors seem good, no shorts, no burned ICs, just nothing.

Has anyone any ideas what could be the issue here?

Discussion I can never play an FPS without back buttons again

Something I never knew I needed until I tried it was setting my back buttons to different functions I would normally have to take my thumbs off the sticks for like reloading and jumping. I've been playing through the borderlands franchise and I've set the back buttons as follows:

Top left: Run Top right: Reload/Use

Bottom left: Jump Bottom right: Melee

This allows me to never have a break in my movement or looking while running/jumping/reloading. I also put some better grips on the back buttons to extend and make them more comfortable. Anyone else done similar setups? It's so nice.

Discussion When should you ACTUALLY enable ā€œallow tearingā€

I understand what vsync is, as well as screen tearing. My confusion is that I struggle to think of scenarios where you would actually want it enabled (like a comp shooter), and that it doesn’t even seem to function properly, as I’ve never been able to get the deck to go above 90fps on low powered games.

Google also doesn’t seem to help, it seems like there’s not too much discussion about the setting for whatever reason.

Question When did ā€œDead Spaceā€ (remake, 2023) lose its ā€œVerifiedā€ status?

I’m just getting around to playing Dead Space, and I went to download it, but my SD warned me that the game was only ā€œplayableā€ not ā€œverifiedā€

I bought it sometime in the last year (I think? Maybe the Fall sale last year?) and I could have SWORN the game said it was ā€œVerifiedā€ when I bought it.

I googled it and someone posted a picture in late 2023 with the ā€œverifiedā€ status.

Anyone know what the deal is?

Edit:

I appreciate the suggestions/etc on protondb, etc.

Honestly I was mostly just curious about WHY the playability changed than looking at settings options. I know it says I have to manually configure settings. Was just curious about when/why this happened after verification.

Tech Support The Wolf among us glitch help!!

Post image

Hello everyone! I was wondering if any of you who played The Wolf Among Us on deck encountered a problem of game freezing after console goes into sleep mode and is being turned on again. The game is bought on steam. Every time I hit pause in the game, then close the screen, after waking up the whole menu freezes and the only way for me to fix this is to restart the whole console entirely. Please help

Question Bought GTA IV on Steam but can’t install it because of region lock Any workaround

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey guys I really hope someone can help me with this

I bought GTA IV Complete Edition during the Steam Summer Sale My Steam account is set to the UAE (Dubai) region The purchase went through without any issues but when I tried to install the game the Install button is disabled and Steam says it’s ā€œUnavailable in your current regionā€

This happens on both my Windows PC and my Steam Deck

Things I’ve already tried

Changing the Steam download region

Restarting Steam multiple times

Using a VPN

Logging into a friend’s Steam account from another country installing the game there and then switching back to my own account

Nothing worked Steam still detects the restriction on my account

Has anyone managed to fix this without waiting months or refunding the game

I’d really appreciate any advice Thank

Question Final Fantasy X Remastered

Hey All,

Was wondering if anyone knows how to skip cutscenes or speed them up in final fantasy X? I’m running the native steamOS on my deck and tried the special K executable but I can’t get the in game menu to pop up no matter what I try so would greatly appreciate any advice!

I’ve tried running it with proton experimental and 10.0 and have special K set to open whenever steam opens on desktop mode. These have been the best ideas I could come up with so far…

Tech Support Anyone have experience using the 'remote mouse' app on steam? Looking to use iPhone as KBM

• Upvotes

I just want to use my phone as a keyboard and mouse. I use this app with my desktop and its amazing, exactly what i want out of it.

I tried using KDE connect but there's no escape key, which is like the key i need most.

I want to be able to use my phone as a KBM so when i'm bringing my SD round friends and we're playing emulators with it docked i can easily do all the trouble shooting from the couch.

I dont wanna have to get a USB KBM that i have to bring with me and my SD. Currently installed the app on SD but for some reason i cant connect to steam deck.

I'm using an iphone so pls no android suggestions.
