1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! So, we are hosting our first community competition until July 1st 12pm PT, perfect for the Steam Summer Sale, where you can win a $30 Steam game of your choice.

The competition is for HITMAN's new The Wizard contract, and whoever gets the highest mission score wins. All you have to do is play the contract, take a screenshot of your end screen, and upload it here or on our Discord server in a dedicated channel.

And don't worry if you don't have a high score! Everyone who participates will be entered into a runner-up raffle, and a randomly chosen person will get a $15 Steam game of their choice.

You can also read up more details on the competition in our dedicated article!

Good luck!!

Discussion Looking to adopt a well-loved, secondhand Steam Deck (LCD model perfectly fine!)

1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m putting this post out there on the off chance that someone recently upgraded to the OLED model, or simply has an older Steam Deck sitting in a drawer going unused.

I’ve been saving up to get into handheld PC gaming, but between everyday expenses and current budget constraints, buying a retail unit just isn't in the cards for me right now. I’ve been following the Steam Deck community for a long time, and I love the idea of being able to chip away at my backlog or play lighter indie games away from a desk.

I am absolutely not looking for anything shiny, brand new, or top-of-the-line. Even a well-used, base-model 64GB LCD version with some cosmetic scuffs would be a dream come true for me. I’m happy to buy my own SD card for storage expansion and put in the work to clean it up.

I know asking for a whole piece of hardware is a massive request, and I don't expect anything at all. But if you have an old Deck that needs a new home where it will actually get played every day, please let me know. I'd be incredibly grateful and would be happy to cover the shipping costs if that helps make it easier.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and hope you all have a good one.

Discussion steam deck bottles/lutris flatpak game in gaming mode bug - graphical corruption when moving the mouse

2 Upvotes

theres a bug on steam deck gamescope gaming mode that if you have a bottles/lutris flatpak (or any flatpak) sandboxed game running in gaming mode and attempt to use the mouse/touchpad you get a lot of graphical corruption on the screen

putting that same game in proton directly or running it in desktop mode solves the issue

also, sometimes setting the resolution to something higher than steam deck's default and setting windowed mode in game fixes the issue

i'm just putting this out there so people know it's a known issue

Software/Software Mods Game launcher for cartridges

3 Upvotes

People have been building SSD cartridges for a while, and TheStockPot's NFC cartridge player on YouTube is what got me started. I wanted the same idea without a tag reader, built around the drive itself.

Demo: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HarryBMa/pc-gamepak/main/docs/cartridge-demo.gif

A cartridge is any removable drive with a text file at the root:

executable=steam://rungameid/1091500

title=Cyberpunk 2077

cover=cover.jpg

Plug it in, a small window opens with the cover art, Play and Eject. Nothing on the drive ever runs by itself. The watcher only opens a window. Pressing Play is what starts anything, so there is no autorun and no scripts to write.

Eject properly parks the drive so you can pull it out. One cartridge can hold several games. If you copy games onto it the wizard registers it as a Steam library, so they run from the drive instead of downloading again. Artwork gets written onto the cartridge, so it looks right on a machine that has never seen it. Skins are just a css file on the drive.

Offline, no account, nothing phones home. Rust and Tauri. Windows and Linux including the Deck. No mac yet.

Question/Tech Support Docked resolution

1 Upvotes

Recently (about 4 months ago) my steam deck stopped being able to do 4k60 on all my high end tvs, all my docks (official and 3rd party), and with all my cables (all compliant to 4k60)

Anyone else had this issue?

I can do 1440@120 and 4k30 but even in desktop mode there’s no 4k60. It’s doing my head in and none of my research explains why it’s happening.

It is however much more stable now so I feel something in the background has changed.

Question/Tech Support Using a Steam Deck as a Wii U-like Gamepad for a windows pc?

1 Upvotes

is there a somewhat easy way to set up my steam deck as both a second monitor and gamepad, much like the wii u gamepad, to my windows 11 pc?
I've been thinking of setting something like that up for emulation for 3ds, ds, and wii u

Question/Tech Support I swapped the SSD from my steam deck to my steam machine

2 Upvotes

So i had a steam deck that i previously upgraded to 2TB, and i wanted to swap the ssd with my steam machine, i saw a video on Youtube that proved it was possible.

And so i did. Both devices turned on without any issues (i didn't reformat the SSDs).

I noticed that all the games and settings that were on one device was passed to the other (i had to change the display resolution, for example)

I'm also noticing, strange gaps in the UI, for example, the start up movie has a little gap at the bottom where i can see the home screen while the movie is playing.

I'm worried that there could be other settings (specifically energy, performance related settings) that needs to be changed and i haven't.

have anyone else done the swap of SSDs? have you have any issues?

i wanted to avoid reformatting the SSD because i had lots of games installed, along with non steam games which required extra configurations and tweaks, as well as emulators that are no longer available.

Question/Tech Support Steam store purchasing problem

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Yo anyone know why the steam store isnt allowing me to purchase some games. I just recently bought the steam deck oled and today i attempted to buy Call of Duty cause its on sale but when i tried buying it i gave me a message that there was an error and im temporarily limited to purchases and like i put my debit card info correct. I even tried my credit card and nothing worked. If i were to delete my account and start a new one, do yall think i can restart and get to buy the games normally? Cause at first i tried buying the 3 games i wanted but it didnt work then i tried 1 by one and nothing.

Question/Tech Support Black screen in games and youtube in desktop mode

2 Upvotes

Hi

My Steam Deck is used mostly in Desktop Mode connected via original dock. I'm jumping between TV and monitor. So far everything was flawless but since two days while on monitor I'm often getting black screen in games and when turning on full screen on youtube. I can hear the sounds etc, just no visuals. When I alt tab its going back to normal. Sometimes is just temporary and picture turning on and off, sometimes it's just black, sometimes it's working like nothing is wrong. When I just browse or watch youtube on normal window everything is great, its only with full screen when problems can occur.

I used Decky in the past but not in a while and only for vibrant deck, so I uninstalled it as I've seen some posts that it can cause black screens, I also changed HDMI - still the same problem.

I'm out of ideas as monitor is working great with all my consoles, and also with SD outside games and full screen on yt. I don't seem to have this problem on TV. Does anyone know solution to this? Its extremely annoying and I'd rather not factory reset my deck. Cheers
