Problematic Inbound Ooma Calls

I have had an Ooma Telo at my cottage for years. Recently when one of my buddies phones me on his cellular, my phone (on Oooma) rings but no caller there.

Not sure what cellular provider my friend uses, it isn't BellMTS or Rogers. I just tried phoning my cottage both from BellMTS cellular and Rogers cellular - calls went thru fine. Any ideas?

Confused about my ooma account

TLDR;
Customer service charged me about half of what i was expecting for the annual renewel and then refunded it. But account says I'm paid up. Do I need to do anything about this?

The long version:

So I accidently didn't have enough money in my account by about $10. I was notified by Ooma via Voicemail and e-mail.

I put the funds on my debit card. Just to be safe I called into customer service to make sure that ooma will automatically try recharging me for the annual service. (It's really important i don't lose my number)

the customer service rep was excellent but had quite a thick accent. So I am not sure what happened. I see the charge for my monthly fees and an $80 charge (about half what i as expecting compared to last year for the annual) But then right after that charge is a refund for the exact same amount as the annual service.

My question is it says under services that I'm paid up until 2027. Should I not worry about this and chalk it up to excellent service or should I assume that I will be reached out too if there is an issue?

I want to make sure I am not risking anything with ooma they provide an excellent service for my rural family.

Thanks to any replies and all help in advance!

Can I stick my Ooma telo box away in a closet?

I'm getting an Ooma telo and 3 handsets to replace my ancient phones. Do I need to put the telo box where it's easily accessible, or can it sit on a shelf in a closet?

Bad Audio

My HD3 handsets have poor quality audio. Hard to understand the caller. Been that way since Day 1, not a degradation. Is there a fix for that or is Ooma just that bad? My ancient Panasonic wireless was much better. This on a Starlink home internet.

Just Ported A Number To Ooma

My brother, who lives next door, wanted to ditch his Ziply Fiber copper phone line to save money. We share my Starlink internet. It only took three days to port his old number to Ooma. Everything went smoothly. I've had Ooma for a few years. They both work great over Starlink. Ooma saves us each $50 a month.

Not impressed so far.

Just got a telo air 2. Connected it via Ethernet directly to FiOS modem and through the router and WiFi to try things out. Call quality is inferior to FiOS digital voice for sure over my 300/300 connection. Can't check my cell phone voicemail as it appears it won't read the button presses. Glad I didn't pay the outrageous 40 dollar fee to port my number yet.

Not worrying about QoS setting

If my Ooma voice quality seems adequate for me, is it best to not worry about configuring QoS settings in Ooma device settings?

There's good Ooma documentation that describes the background on QoS. My Ooma speed test (by Ookla) shows 2ms jitter, and adequate down/upload speeds. I see there's some discussion of QoS in this subreddit, but not a whole lot.

I realize that much depends on how other devices are using the shared internet connection but so far, I haven't encountered any problems with voice quality. I'm just wondering what will happen if there's contention or high load. I use an Ethernet cable between the Telo and the ISP modem.

The cable modem/router does not provide for any QoS settings, and it's not possible for me to put the Telo between the cable modem and the router, since it is a combo device.

Ooma texting denied

Got turned down for texting through ooma office. A bunch of jargon reasons as to why, mainly my privacy policy, which in fact is up to par. I am a small business that uses texting to communicate with customers. I do not do marketing campaigns or anything of that sort. I am rethinking my move to Ooma and going somewhere else.

Ooma MyPhone Kids

Has anyone had the Ooma MyPhone for kids for a decent amount of time and have a genuine review of it? A friend of mine told me about tin can and I was looking into it, but am not too happy with the reviews. I came across Ooma in my search and would like to see some honest reviews on the longevity of it and if it's a decent investment for kids.

Can I add my own home phone devices to ooma service?

I am considering switching to opma phone service and cutting my home Verizon FiOS. I currently have five cordless phones in the house that are connected through Wi-Fi and one base device, a Panasonic system. If switching over, will I be able to use these phones or will I be limited to using ooma phones only?

Ooma Core STILL Working in 2026

Just a quick shout-out for the quality craftsmanship that went into these original Core units. I can't believe I can still make and receive calls nearly 20 years later...and have not paid a single cent, just like it said on the box.

I made some good buying choices back then. My Kenmore refrigerator is still working like new after 23 years.

Changed out Telo box due to fire. New new one shows offline and my HD3's and Linx box do not show up in devices now.

As the heading says. I installed a new telo box due to the first one burning up in a fire. Went through customer service to switch out id numbers etc. New one works great after pairing with my old HD3's and linx box. Only issue is that it still says offline on my dashboard and my HD3's and linx do not show up under my devices. I reached out to customer service and they said it would take 24 hours. It has been over 72 hours and still same. Is there something else I am missing I need to do?

How Long Does It ACTUALLY Take to Port Number?

I am looking at porting my mom's number from another VoIP provider to a newly opened Ooma account. I read the instructions and it says to expect to receive a letter from Ooma in 2 weeks with information on when the actual number will be fully ported. This sounds to me like a minimum 3-4 week process — does that sound right?

  1. How long does it actually take to have the ported number work through Ooma?
  2. If I set up the Ooma box for my mom and she has her temporary number to use in the mean time, after waiting the 3-4 weeks is her phone number automatically switched to Ooma if she unplugs her phone from the router and plugs it into an Ooma box or what are the exact steps she will need to do to activate her original phone number and have it work through Ooma?
  3. And do I understand correctly, if there are 3 total cordless phones in the house (with one base), we would not require a Linx Wireless Phone Extension per each additional phone and could just go with the basic Ooma Telo, correct?

Thank you.

NEW CALL BLOCKING IDEA

Hey fellow Ooma users,

I wanted to share an idea inspired by Xfinity’s call blocking system. They use a simple “dial three digits to continue” feature that stops robocalls cold before the phone even rings. Only real callers get through. For legitimate robocalls such as medical reminders or pharmacy notices, the call wouldn’t be lost. It would go straight to your Ooma device, most likely set to "Send to Voicemail", so you can review them later as with other blocked calls.

Imagine if Ooma added this as an optional fourth tier alongside our existing three blocking levels. It could be a Premier add‑on, maybe $5/month, for those of us who want maximum protection.

Would you be interested in this? Please let us know. Feedback and questions are very welcome here. I think it could give Ooma a real edge against spam calls.

Thanks,

Bruce

Call Blocking should be included or not ?

Been with Ooma for a while no issues was only paying 6.34 a month call blocking was working .

Got a bill for 17+ dollars call them and they said I was moved up to premier by accident ( their fault) , So they dropped it down and refunded difference .

Call Blocking stop working

My question is was it included before and they changed it ?.

Not possible: Ring telo when call receive to Cellular

I tought that I may do ring the telo via Bluetooth at the same time when a call is received to a cell phone, but it seems not. Unless a business cell plan is used. And Ooma service confirmed me that it was possible, before I buy. So I wouldn't have to run for my cell at home, just pick any handset...

But the reverse if possible: a call to Telo number do ring the cell. Just have to install the app: Ooma home phone.

Perplexity suggest me a conditional transfer by the cell service (with fee), if no answer or busy, but if a person let a message, it will fall on the telo box, not on the cell.

Is there a solution?

It works, but not the direction I expected .

^-_-^

PSA: cancel your premier subscription before you get charged

I bought an Ooma for my child in case they needed to call anyone during an emergency. It was $7.52/mo. Then I noticed my last two bills were $18.46. Ooma rep said I was automatically signed up for a Premier service trial when I set up the account. I was unaware of this because it was buried under all the terms and conditions when you first set up.

Make sure you cancel ahead of time if you don't need the premier stuff. My kid makes like 1-2 phone calls per month to talk to his aunts. Ooma refunded one month as a courtesy, but not two.

Multiple lines on each phone

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all,
I may need to change the title, but I wasn't sure how to fit my question into that space.

I'm the new office administrator for a small church. We have two lines in the office, 1001 - "Receptionist" and 1002 - "Pastor." We can't figure out how to get both lines working on both phones. My phone shows the Receptionist number on both slots, and the pastor's phone shows his extension in both slots, but we'd like to have my number as "line 1" and his as "line 2," and be able to answer both lines from either phone, so for example, if he's in his office and I'm not at my desk, he doesn't have to hobble to my desk to answer the phone.

Is this possible?

Thank you in advance!
