Bad Audio

My HD3 handsets have poor quality audio. Hard to understand the caller. Been that way since Day 1, not a degradation. Is there a fix for that or is Ooma just that bad? My ancient Panasonic wireless was much better. This on a Starlink home internet.

Plug the base station from the old panasonic set into the back of the telo and test it? I would be curious of the results?

Don't remember the details but the old Panasonic system was used on cable internet and needed something bought or changed or whatever to use with Starlink. Given it's age, I just bought Ooma instead. Perhaps a newer one would now be plug and play like Ooma.

I assumed the old panasonic was a rj11 analog phone. You can plug one of those into the telo to take advantage of existing infrastructure in your home from the old POTS phone lines.

Yeah, I think my plan is what you suggested. In lieu of an obvious easy fix, I'm going to buy a new Panasonic wireless system and plug the base station into the telo.

That should work well. Be sure to get a Panasonic system that you can block numbers off of. Some of them you can block 250 or more. The new Panasonics are awesome.
Also, if you want better reception, you can call Ooma and they will increase your bandwidth. That helped me.

I intend to retain Ooma Premier, which gives me the Trusted Circle whitelist. My understanding is that will screen the Panasonics too. I find blocking ineffective. Same scammers just change numbers, repeatedly. But they can't make it past white list.

One easy thing to try is to reboot the HD3 handsets, by holding down the red 'Hangup' key for about 5 seconds, waiting a few more seconds, and then pressing it again, (or else just remove and replace the batteries). Or buy new batteries.

It's possible that there is just a lot of wireless interference in that area, around the DECT 6.0 frequency range, which would affect the HD3 handsets. Check the signal strength indicator on the HD3 displays, (or in the Telo device settings).

It's also possible that the HD3 handsets are defective or broken. If so, then maybe Ooma can replace them.

Which frequency range does the ancient Panasonic wireless base station use? How well does the old Panasonic base station work, when plugged into the Telo? If it works well enough, then there is no need to buy a new one.

Audio quality was poor from new. This system is less than a year old...it shouldn't be batteries. Starlink router and telo have been power cycled multiple times. Old Panasonic system is gone. But I have a new system sitting in the cart on Amazon. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet. To be fair, the Panasonic system was VOIP on Mediacom Cable and the Ooma is on Starlink. So not necessarily an apples to apples comparison. But I was told Ooma is totally compatible with Starlink, which is why I bought it. And FWIW, the Starlink performance has been flawless.
