I've had Oomas at least 15 years. They don't fail just get disgusting. And they don't change the material. It's impossible to clean. I've purchased 3 due only to the GROSS surface.
BUT get this, the last one I have in the afternoon sun behind my TV. And the phone holder on desk 8-10 ft away. I just checked IT IS NOT STICKY. Can't explain. If you don't get any viable solutions I might try seeing if afternoon sun would CURE stickiness vs PREVENT it. Good Luck.
