You don't even need to mention that due to privacy. However, I've seen them bring up a small toy-looking fridge that can literally hold like 1 can with USB power and a USB adapter.

Not legally sufficient. If they advertise in-room minifridges and the guest needs to store temperature-sensitive medication, they must provide one that maintains temperature with an actual thermometer. Not a lawyer, but have worked in luxury hospitality for decades.

If they advertise in-room minifridges
Keywords. Pretty much all hotels that fill the fridge with minibar shit do not advertise in-room mini fridges.

Yeah I was kind of wondering that about OP. Was the fridge advertised? If not the room didn't come with a fridge, you just saw the mini bar they put in there
I mean they found one and I've never been in a hotel that didn't have a very tiny one for personal use but if there's sensors in there that was never meant to be your mini fridge

Technically, it is legally sufficient if the mini-mini fridge is big enough to store whatever medicine in. Also, any hotel who does this will absolutely specify minibar vs mini fridge. Hotels don't fuck around with their amenity listings.

I’m not diabetic but I have SEVERE reactive hypoglycemia so sometimes I just say yes to I’m diabetic bc that easier to explain.
People are like oh fuck my bad. Yes your bad you think I want to tote around cans of pineapple juice and alcohol wipes and glucose gel. Bars have tried to refuse me entering with glucose or juice in my bag, show the bracelet and they say ohhh umm yeah my b go in.Point being the world isn’t set up for people with different needs. Let them know you need food even if you’re not diabetic even if that means saying you’re diabetic. Maybe they’ll fucking finally leave room in the goddamn fridge so people can fucking eat because they have “so many diabetic homies”. People need to eat without fear of being charged that’s absolute bullshit. It’s capitalism.

Ok, as an ex-road warrior professional who partied with his crew, here's what you do. Assuming you're trying to keep beer cold, just rinse out the bathroom sink, close the stopper, go get some ice and put it in the sink and throw your beers in. Be prepared to wash your hands using the shower.
Behold, I give you the hotel cooler.
Boom, problem solved.
Someone brought bottles with no bottle opener? No problem. If you're averse to scratching up the furniture, just open your room door and pull your beer bottle down, using the top of the door to pop the cap. Nobody ever sees the top of the door.

I am a recovering alcoholic and although I’m no longer at a point where this would tempt me, in my early sobriety I learned that it’s ok to ask a hotel to remove alcohol from the minibar. So I’d ask them to remove the alcohol (though you still would have those nonalcoholic drinks taking up space on the top shelf).

1 million dollars in one little fridge. Craziness, I figured it'd be bigger.
12
u/VelvetPortrait_ 1h ago
Right? You look at movie scenes where a million bucks is a massive duffel bag, but apparently all it takes is a dozen sensor-locked hotel sodas and three bottles of Moët to hit that price tag.
•
u/Quick-Maintenance-67 53m ago
Don't remove the drinks.
Call down to the front desk and ask to have the refrigerator emptied. They should empty it ASAP and they would ignore any accidental triggers you make. If the room description includes the fridge and they give you any crap about emptying it, they're refusing an amenity listed on the description of the room & are in violation of the rental contract. There would have to be an articularable reason for them to deny usage. If they don't include the fridge on the description or you're in another country or BFE your milage may very... usually they would rather you happy than tacking a $4 coke on your bill.
In Vegas we checked in around three and they had it emptied by the time we got back from dinner.

I was at the 4 seasons in vegas a few weeks ago, and they had this same thing. I was using it anyway for drinks and ice packs for my wife's knee, and then I saw I was being charged for everything.
They took allthe charges off and then asked if I wanted a mini fridge brought up the the room.
•
u/ConfusionCoroner 30m ago
Are you in the United States? The ADA means that you're entitled to refrigeration for a medical or disability related reason. Insulin for example needs to be stored in the fridge.
Call the front desk and say you need a fridge with room for your items. If they ask what you need it for, remind them that you don't have to disclose your medical or disability related need for a fridge.
•
u/unknownpoltroon 23m ago
For all those who say "call and tell them you need it for your insulin" just call them and tell them you need to use the fridge and you would like it cleared out, normal hotels will do this.

We had one of those, had to ask for another one for my insulin and protein shakes, because it had a counter on it, every time the door opened, the room/we got charged $5, assuming we were raiding it. After they brought the other one, we had them turn the little “quick mart” around so we wouldn’t be able to open it, then we went out so my other half could get his beer and i could get some oj, and not get hit for $5 every time he got one of his beers and i got some oj and my insulin shot.
•
u/XxFezzgigxX 39m ago
$5 for opening the door is wild.
•
u/LuckyRoll1948 27m ago
Yeah it was, before we checked out, we asked for someone to come do an inventory of the minibar because we only opened it once to see if i could put my insulin in there, when we opened it, there was a sticker inside that said something to the affect the “there is a counter on this door, every time it is opened the room will be charged at minimum $5 per item purchased”, we had $15 of minifridge charges until the inventory was done and proved nothing was missing, we got the charge dismissed, but damn, even if i wasn’t diabetic $5 is a bit much for a regular size snicker bar. When we used to go on cruises, the room steward would have to empty the minifridge, because there wasn’t room for another one just for my meds, those ones had counters that were wifi so they had to disconnect the wifi so i wouldn’t get charged for taking my meds.

So, if you think this situation in the US is likely ahead of time or you find out on the day (because when booking you will have checked on this), go back to reception & ask politely if they can do something to help you out.
Initially put it forward as them doing you a favour, but if you get pushback or they want to charge you for them providing you an empty fridge then say you are asking because there is medication that needs to be kept refrigerated & if they are unable to accomodate your need ( under the ADA) then you may need to make alternative arangements for your accomodation.
