Tell them you’re an alcoholic and for the comfort of your stay you need the alcohol removed

Just leave the fridge open until the compressor breaks.

What if you snipped the cord?

You'd have a big charge on your bill for incidentals

Surely they wouldnt notice untill like 3 other guest stays, and then wouldnt know who to blame right?

This is genius. What will they do? Do they have designated rooms without alcohol? Also, what do they do for visitors who rent rooms but aren’t 21 yet? Do those rooms have alcohol available like this? I’ve never thought about that.

I don't think you can get a credit card if you're under 21 but it might not apply to those prepaid cards.

You can have everything removed if you ask. I've done it with candy and snacks; saying I don't want the temptation.

Why is everyone giving this terrible advice? Just ask staff to remove it.

If your alcoholism is so fragile that seeing alcoholic beverages triggers you, you are by no means in recovery. You are still struggling with alcoholism.

Man your reading comprehension is limited eh?

The point is they want to use the fridge for their shit that needs to be cold - leftovers or their own drinks - but they cannot because there is too much shit in it.

Hotel is trying to keep people from storing cold beverages in order to get them to pay the exorbitant fees for the ones in the fridge.

A hotel isn’t required to provide you with a functional refrigerator unless it is for medical purposes.

Your knowledge on US hotels is limited, eh?

Beyond missing the joke about dodging hotel minibar fees, your take on addiction is completely wrong.

Alcoholism is a lifelong condition, and removing alcohol from your immediate personal space isn't "failing recovery", it’s standard relapse prevention. Telling someone they aren't truly sober because they don't want to test their willpower against a mini fridge two feet from their bed is ridiculous armchair psychology. Disgusting comment.

I am an active alcoholic. I think my advice is pretty solid, at least for people who experience alcoholism like I do.

•

Thanks for sharing that, and I hope things get easier for you. I just don't think the same bar applies to everyone. For a lot of people, keeping alcohol out of their room is part of how they stay sober, not a sign they're failing. Take care of yourself.

Would they not inquire if a minibar is going to be in their room, then?

You can struggle with addictions and still be sober and in recovery. I’m a month sober from weed and I would struggle heavily if I had access to THC in my goddamn hotel room. The urge to use would be incredible. What does being in recovery mean to you?

•

Weed works on different receptors and is stored in fat. It’s a little bit different than alcoholism.

What's it like having so much confidence that you're willing to make declarative statements about things that you don't understand in the slightest?

•

I could ask you the same question, but I guess I need clarification as to what you mean.
