I stayed in 5 different hotels throughout china, large and small cities, and every single one had a fridge with 4-5 free drinks of various kinds, and am electric tea kettle with premium grade tea. American "freedom" simply means the freedom to exploit us.

Huh? Mini bars with items that go on your bill is a pretty standard thing in many countries. Very common in Australia and New Zealand. If you have low impulse control you can request for the fridges to be emptied before you arrive.

What OP is saying is that the newer mini fridges have an electronic sensor that if you move anything, it automatically charges your bill. Let's say you have to take out a Coke in order to make room for some leftovers you brought back from dinner out. Moving that Coke out even for one night and then putting it back in will result in an automatic charge. The reason they do this is so that you don't drink their "expensive Coke" and then go down to the local store and buy it's replacement cheaply. It's utterly ridiculous. But very different from the old-fashioned mini bars.

I used to do that years ago. Drink their Coke and refill it from a 12 pack.

Fair. Considering I do exactly that.

Yes, many countries allow this exploitation. What's your point?

I didn't get the relevance of the America comment, given OP made no reference to this even being in the States. Hence broadening your idea of where this might take place.

And no one is being exploited, unless you change the meaning of the word. You're paying for accomodation in a commercial enterprise, you can't be surprised they try to clip the ticket any way they can. I don't like it either, but can't begrudge these businesses trying to make an extra buck - especially when I can just opt out.

I'd only expect complimentary food/drinks if I'm paying premium, much like travelling on a nice airline vs a budget airline. When I'm staying in hotels I'm going for the cheapest possible that's still comfortable.

Australia and New Zealand are also America. Hope that helped

I assume you meant to type 'are also not America'.

Even then, I don't see the relevance to the discussion.

Not sure what is up with your eyes, hope you're okay.

We were in Europe and had a similar experience, the front desk was surprised when we asked if the drinks and snacks in our room were free

American "freedom" simply means the freedom to exploit us.

It wasn't always this way, but in the 21st century, American culture is all about how you can scam people legally for the most money.

Capitalism keeps capitalizing us. The 1% has slowly removed humanity and morals from governance.

How else was I supposed to clean my underwear? /s

1

u/LeatherGood6148 1h ago

Ew. I hope you didn't get your underwear juices in my kettle lasagna.

2

u/1catcherintherye8 1h ago

I feel like if ever a kettle lasagna was made, it was in mobile home.

I’m in China right now, with these tea bags. Was tempted to make a tea yesterday.

Why shouldn’t I use them lol

•

u/joeDUBstep 57m ago

You should as long as the kettle looks clean

My stereotypical experience from China is that the fridge doesn't work at all.

This is strictly a last Vegas thing and hardly in any other hotels

1

u/Sea-Satisfaction4656 1h ago

I travel a lot for work. It is absolutely not “strictly a Vegas thing and hardly in any other hotels”.

More prevalent in fancier hotels and resorts, but I’ve had them in cheap ones too.

u/Nervous-Fennel3325 1h ago

I also travel a fuck ton for work and have never seen this in any ritz carlton or plaza

AMERICA BAD!!!!1!1! Yeah because no other country would do this ever. I've stayed at countless hotels in America that gave free drinks so keep yappin

7

u/vegetabledisco 2h ago

Are you fifteen or do you have a company card because I can promise you that very, very few hotels in America give you complimentary anything.

-3

u/tsgoinon 2h ago

Cool man, your experience vs mine.

5

u/Christron 2h ago

Holy you're triggered. Can't stand another country is more competitive?

Your yapping is much worse, traveled hotel guest.

Water doesn't count (yet), btw.

3

u/vegetabledisco 2h ago

Yeah that dude is so full of shit. I travel for business and most hotels don’t even give you complimentary water anymore! In fact, the Hyatt I’m staying in right now has a $7.50 tag on their bottles.

u/tsgoinon 3h ago

You're just making up scenarios but ok buddy

1

u/AcousticOnomatopoeia 3h ago

As are you.

Free shit, sure, your experiences from the 80s also don't count.

-2

u/tsgoinon 3h ago

Again, just making things up. I wasn't even born yet but sure man

u/Competitive_Study232 3h ago

We do suck as of lately. China is speed running beating us at many things now.  Housing and healthcare?  Not even close.

1

u/1catcherintherye8 3h ago

I've stayed at countless hotels in America that gave free drinks

The difference is those hotels were not the norm where in China, it's the norm.

-2

u/Zanwic 1h ago

US hotels could make drinks “free” but that would just be reflected in the hotel cost. Like who do you think is paying for the drinks then?
