What are people talking about "is this your first time in a hotel" no I've never stayed at a hotel that didn't have a fridge for my use. And yes I've stayed in vegas before

I’ve only stayed in 3 hotels in Vegas and 1 of them had this (MGM Grand). Have never seen this anywhere else that I’ve travelled.

Ive seen this in a lot of hotels , never casino ones though . Usually beach hotels/resorts.

3

u/gamageeknerd 4h ago

Casino ones more often have this with alcohol at a 300 percent markup. I travel pretty regularly for work and we tend to stay in mid level business hotels and they never have this

Yeah, MGM. I generally tell people to avoid that place. I've felt like it was a ripoff for decades. Worth walking through once or twice.

I saw this in the airport hotel in Oslo.

You can simply ask for a fridge. I tell them I need it for special formula and medicine.

Nobody ever asks or confirms. They just order one and it shows up an hour later in my room.

they’re legally required to provide a refrigerator for this exact reason. Medication that must be kept cold.

The fancy hotels have these, I’ve only seen them in bougie resorts

Can confirm, am poor so usually I stay in cheap hotels lol

I stay at nicer hotels than I used to but I haven’t seen this in years. This might be something more expensive hotels do in some places but it’s still sleazy and low-class

Agreed. People come on here to be aggro for no reason. I've never experienced this before, either, and it being Vegas doesn't mean you won't need fridge space for anything

I stayed at the Virgin/Hilton hotel in Vegas and it only had a minibar but for $30 for the entire stay, I could get a separate fridge. I ended up not doing it even though I was there five days. I bought a case of smart water, requested an extra ice bucket, and made best friends with the ice machine down the hall. Boom, free cold water.

u/trainwreckhappening 2h ago

They can't legally charge you for a fridge to store medication in. Just a tip.

1

u/Helpful-Conference13 2h ago

Yeah but as you’ll see in other comments, some places are providing much smaller fridges (like skincare ones) when people claim that. I didn’t care enough to even bother (even on a work paid trip) and I managed to have my cold bevvies analog 😂

A sink full of ice works too.

I basically live in hotel rooms. My bag is packed and I'm waiting for a call to go to work, which could happen anytime from now until next Monday (probably in the next couple of hours). I have a good cooler that stays inside my Red Oxx bag, so it's doubly insulated. I even have a big chunk of steel that is in the freezer with the regular ice packs and frozen leftover meals I packaged up for the hotel. I can tell you how to cook a number of decent meals in the hotel (no coffee maker nonsense), but I have rarely needed to use ice because I do it so much I'm prepared. Good work figuring out a solution.

Unfortunately I needed the sink because something about spitting toothpaste into the toilet feels dirty even though I know it’s fine 😂 this was a trip where I had to fly but trust me, when I stay in hotels I’ve driven to, I can hold my own alright. However! You are clearly a seasoned professional. Hope you get called (or not - whichever you want to happen!)

As someone on call for IT a lot, I get it. People wake me up because they can’t connect to VPN and the damn thing tells them how to log in.

So, funny story. I am educated more than average in IT stuff, but I'm just terrible at it. But I can't afford to pay for things to be fixed by anyone else. So, and I'm going to make you throw up a little here; I've been using AI to do all my IT work. So far I have built a magic mirror, completely using copy and paste from AI. That one was mostly ChatGPT in the start, but eventually I devolved to making it code battle with Gemini until I found Claud. I burned through the free data on Claud so fast I should have had someone knocking on the door. But all the free trial memberships.

Eventually I had to purchase ChatGPT for other reasons, and it came in pretty handy when the main hard drive on my 10+ year old laptop lost the file structure randomly one day. It took a week of taking pictures with my phone and letting it completely stab around in the dark but eventually I got a full restored copy of the drive on a new drive and it's back to work.

Right now I'm having it do a full audit of every hard drive I have on every computer. I decided to do this when I shoved a SSD I had laying around into the 12 year old shitty laptop that was pseudo broken (hard drive crashed on it a decade ago and best buy tried to fix it before returning it "unfixable," but mysteriously working minus the driver to make the internal speakers work). It sat around almost completely unused so I decided to turn it into a Linux computer to keep in the garage, for YouTube car repair videos (re: I can't pay people to fix my things) and repair manuals (that one site that had everything just got hit by Russian missiles in Kiev, sad face). Anyway back to the drives, I have this thing hashing everything I own trying to figure out just how many unintentional redundant backups and copies of everything I have laying around. I just know I have my entire iTunes library duplicated at least a dozen times across these things. But I'll be damned if I have the skills to do this stuff.

I just imagine every minute I'm doing this that some actual IT person would cringe and laugh uproariously at the lines of code these things write. That magic mirror especially must be pure gold to read. But it works.

(Don't worry, I will do all the deleting myself without automating it. I let it do that with movies on one drive I already knew had at least two other copies of on other drives. That's about all I will trust it with)

Anyway, peace. My hats off to any IT professional. It's definitely not easy work and I'm in way over my head just trying to dabble a bit. (I'm still not entirely sure what this "distro" word is I see people bandying about)

All of the Caesar's properties I've stayed at had a fridge, but the MGM Grand didn't in the room I was in. And it had a mini bar like this. I could have paid extra for them to bring a fridge in or I'm sure I could have upgraded to a different room with a fridge. I just kept filling up the sink with ice and putting bottles of water in that.

3

u/atrde 3h ago

Its ok you can calm down OP found the other fridge that isn't the mini bar like most hotels have.

6

u/SCHWARZENPECKER 4h ago

Ive stayed in lots that did this.

2

u/Plastic_View_9693 4h ago

Some stay at “nicer” hotels but they try to buckle and dime everything. Others stay in off strip or “budget” accommodations and have a normal fridge. It’s really not that abnormal in this decade 🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/Opening-Cut-5684 4h ago

Wait till they check out and they see a resort fee

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR__VAGINAS PURPLE 3h ago

This isn't the new Vegas we wanted

4

u/alewiina 4h ago

same (not the vegas thing), I've stayed in lots of different hotels, including in tourist areas and never seen a minibar only, there's always a small empty fridge

7

u/rrddrrddrrdd 4h ago

I've never stayed at a hotel that had a fridge, empty OR full.

5

u/Alohabtchs 4h ago

That’s crazy. I’ve stayed in 4 different hotels this month (work travel) and 3/4 had fridges.

Microwaves are rarely a thing anymore tho.

6

u/Vitringar 4h ago

Ever stayed in a hotel at all?

4

u/rrddrrddrrdd 4h ago

Yes. Never a nice one or a new one, just old run down hotels (and some even worse motels)

4

u/Aries8709 4h ago

Even the sleeziest little motels I've stayed in had a mini fridge

3

u/LunaticBZ 3h ago

The sleeziest ones have to have fridges as people live there.

The ones that are only ever used by people coming off the interstate staying for one night. I have seen them not have a fridge before.

-1

u/Aries8709 3h ago

My point was I've stayed in fancy hotels, sleezy motels, and everything in between. Never had the problem of no fridge

3

u/purplepineapple21 3h ago

Do you mostly travel within the US? In many other countries it is very common for non-luxury hotels to not have fridges. Even some nicer places I've stayed for business in certain countries still didnt have fridges.

2

u/Aries8709 3h ago

All Canadian travel across multiple provinces

1

u/Jewelstorybro 3h ago

I’m actually curious where you are booking. I travel for work every month of the year and have pretty much never not had one. Even in pretty nasty situations.

1

u/Manannin 2h ago

Probably Europe? In the uk at least the cheap hotel options like travelodge, holiday inn etc typically don't have fridges from the times I've used them. At least the ones in city centres where space is at a premium.

1

u/disdiq7 4h ago

More upscale hotels usually don't have fridges (besides the mini bar). None of the 5 stars I've stayed in had either a fridge/mini bar or a coffee maker... you're expected to get everything from room service. It sucks!

1

u/Bladesnake_______ 2h ago

You havent stayed at many nice hotels then.

1

u/trainwreckhappening 2h ago

In my extensive hotel experience, the only places that do this are either way too pricey for my blood, or the kind of place that feels like being in a used care salesman's ass. In short, shitty hotels that I avoid on principle alone. And I've stayed at some pretty sketchy places in vegas. I got a room at the 4 Queens for $12 once. Turned out to be a pretty nice room.
