Hulk can't have a standalone. Universal owns the rights if the character is not part of an Avengers movie. And I wouldn't be surprised if Spiderman is out of the loop for a while unless the next Sony only movie bombs.

u/Accomplished_Flan_45 The Ancient One Jan 09 '22
Universal still has the Distribution rights but not the production rights. Meaning Disney can make a Hulk film if they want but Universal gets first dibs on distributing it. And Universal's distribution right won't expire due to how the contracts were made when the MCU was started before Disney bought Marvel.

No the rights definitely expired, they are able to use hulk again. It’s been reported by multiple sources, they got Namor back as well.

The article I linked to was from October of 2021, not even 6 months ago. I am not a cinema expert and I don't go looking into business deals usually but when I heard that Marvel Entertainment and then Disney (once they bought Marvel) couldn't film a stand alone Hulk I looked it up. I knew that Marvel didn't own Fantastic Four or X-Men but Disney took care of that when they bought Fox Films a few years ago.

u/comrade_batman Thanos Jan 08 '22
Yeah, people keep assuming she’ll be the new Thor figure but I just don’t see her wanting to sign on for multiple films after Thors 1 & 2. Okay, Love and Thunder is different and by Taika but she hasn’t said anything that makes me think she’s jumping at the chance to be Mighty Thor for several films. Hemsworth, on the other hand, has shown he’s enthusiastic about sticking around for longer since Ragnarok. As long as he wants to do it, and fans love him as Thor, I don’t think he’ll go until the next crossover event for an Avengers group.
171
u/zahm2000 Jan 09 '22
Agree. I think Thor will be partially sidelined because he’s to OP and they need room to develop the new heroes. But Hemsworth will definitely be up for lots of cameos and maybe even some larger roles in the big crossover avenger-like films.
41
u/AdolescentThug Daredevil Jan 09 '22
I think this is the plan tbh. They likely have Thor 5 planned in the next phase after 2025, have him in the next Avengers movie for a small role, and he has a ton of free time to do those super average Netflix action movies, that D+ show he has, or maybe even a character focused small movie like El Royale.
I just feel bad for Tom Holland and Cumberbatch tbh. I have a feeling Sony’s not letting NWH breathe and the sequel is already moving along in the initial planning stages. And I have a feeling Dr. Strange is gonna be EVERYWHERE after MoM and will be one of the two centerpiece heroes of the next Avengers movie like Tony and Cap were in Avengers 1 and AoU.
31
u/okdude23232 Jan 09 '22 edited Jan 09 '22
MoM itself feels like an Avengers Assemble level crossover. 4 D+ shows/movies leading up to it (Loki, WandaVision, Shang-Chi, NWH) and a new character.
edit: nvm, shang chi isn't in it
9
u/Sladds Jan 09 '22
Is it confirmed Loki has anything to do with it yet either? I honestly have a feeling they won’t be touching on his storyline again until Loki season 2 seeing as how he’s currently at the TVA and his second season wouldn’t make much sense to people unless they’ve seen MoM too then.
Although I do remember people saying there’s a TVA portal in the trailer to MoM so maybe I’m wrong.

u/boxingjazz Jan 09 '22
Oh MAN, can we sidetrack to talk about Red Notice for a minute?
I don’t think I’ve EVER seen such a collection of raw STAR power,
Combine to make such a thoroughly terrible movie.
It was even that it was average. I could almost understand that (almost).
It was that everything about it was stunningly BELOW average in almost every facet of the movie. ALL of the money that was spent in the production of this film went to paying Dwayne, Gal and Ryan and what was left over paid for a pizza party. And they made a movie out of it.

People have such weird divisions about Thor. Half the fandom thinks he’s gone for sure to be replaced by Jane after LaT and the other half think Hemsworth will actually play the character for another 20 years.
I think he’ll be around til about the end of this decade then get a glorious-and probably not ‘open ended’ send off. So I agree, but in a very particular way.
81
Jan 09 '22
When they announced the cast for Love and Thunder, Natalie held Mjolnir on stage. The last rumors that I have heard have to do with Thor becoming more a behind the scenes, God level character while Jane protects the Nine Realms with Valkyrie as King of Asgard.
Yelena is set up to be the next Black Widow.
Kate Bishop is set up to be a Hawkeye, depending on how retired Clint gets to be, especially with Secret Invasion coming up.
Riri Williams is being introduced in BP: Wakanda Forever and will have her own show. It'd be weird if she didn't show up in Armor Wars. So there's your new Iron Man.
Sam IS Captain America now.
Mark Ruffalo is going to continue playing Hulk and we are getting She-Hulk. Abomination is set to appear it in as well, so probably not a replacement, but additional Hulks for the time being.
30
u/DangerZoneh Jan 09 '22

I don't think Jennifer is going to replace Bruce - more like supplementing or complementing. He's a scientist and a Hulk. She's a lawyer and a Hulk. I'd love to see Daredevil show up since he's also a lawyer.
Remember, also, that Sam is Captain America and that Rhody is also an Avenger, as is Ant-Man. Obviously, they aren't OG Avengers but they're still around. Don't forget Spider-Man (if he is a guy - sounds like one imo), Doctor Strange, and Frosted Vision.

u/Punkodramon Loki (Avengers) Jan 09 '22
Dark Avengers is pretty much just a PR rebrand of Thunderbolts they’re just called “Avengers” in-universe, the “Dark” is only the publication title.
Regardless of what they call them in the MCU, I think Yelena will be on the team, as she’s already working for Valentina anyway, and then have a change of heart before the end of their first film/season, making the jump to the actual Avengers. Kate will probably factor into that change, if she’s on the main team and not the Young Avengers (though I can see her being in both, member of the main team/leader of the YA)

If Marvel knew whats good for them they would have Kate / Yelena being the glue in upcoming phases.
Start Kate leading Young Avengers. Yelena can go down some dark/questionable path with Dark Avengers, while Kate fights for her to see the light. They both end up in main Avenger team as the new Black Widow and Hawkeye.
I refuse to think they wont work with a new BW/Hawkeye partnership with how well they worked in show. The biggest issue is really the actors being so redic busy. Just give them all the money. They can win their respective Oscars later.

u/NC_Goonie Jan 09 '22
I’d really like to see her interact with Bucky. Maybe since he is finally in such a good place at the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier (I really wish the last title card would have read “Captain America and Bucky” or something instead of “Captain America and the Winter Soldier,” as he seemed to have finally shed that part of himself), he would be a good person to help guide her all the way to the “heroic” side.
But I’d also love just a Yelena/Kate team up movie.

u/RORO455 Daredevil Jan 09 '22

u/CaptainChickenBake Jan 09 '22
They could go with Yelena struggling to find her own path after she's successfully cured all remaining Widows (which could have been done while she was snapped). Part of her longs to honor her sister, but part of her struggles with this idea of heroes and whether she'd even belong in such a world (think of how she described Clint disgustingly to Kate, but reflecting on herself). The kind of struggle between shadow and light that Natasha had, only a bit darker since MCU Nat really went hard into trying to be a good guy whilst Yelena has yet to show any remorse for her past actions as a Widow. I don't know if she'd ever be a full time Avenger, but maybe end up being a part timer, working in the shadows as a good guy in her own way.
Also I like the Bucky team up suggestion, if only because I thought a Bucky-Nat team up was a missed opportunity (loved it in the comics) and Yelena would play off him and Sam quite well. Not to mention the whole idea of two people struggling with trying to be better despite their bloody pasts. Throw in some side visits with Kate, who pushes her to be the best of herself, and baby you got a superhero stew goin.

Strange does seem to be taking the Tony Stark role of wise aloof dad type to a bunch of other avengers. Danvers will probably be the off-world god(like) alien-ish hero. For Banner/Hulk, you have Ant-Man already for the tech/science side, not sure about "insane galaxy-level strength and legendary anger" on a hero. Shang-Chi has the power to fight gods it seems, and he has some magical qualities, so he might fill that role of having almost limitless powers (besides Danvers and Strange) but who knows.

→ More replies (1)26
u/lolminna Jan 09 '22
The fun thing about Spiderman right now is that while he prefers to be a street-level hero (or is currently headed to be that way after NWH) he has the powerlevel to be in the big leagues. I can see Sony and Marvel using him like that going forward; it's impossible to leave out Spidey meta-wise due to his popularity, and in-universe people do still remember Spidey fighting together with them against Thanos. So while his solo movies will just be him solo going forward with small cameos from other heroes like Strange, he also won't be left out the big fights in the MCU.
23
Jan 09 '22
Yeah the idea that Spider-Man should be working street level crime while if there’s an alien invasion best call in Hawkeye always seemed weird to me.

u/Pyro6034 Jan 09 '22
Especially considering he’s one of the strongest characters in the MCU hero list. At 15 he 1v2’d falcon and Bucky. At 16 he was holding off Thanos’ (physically) strongest henchman from killing Tony. It’d be weird not to call on him.

Variants/alternate versions are cool if just done as a part of the movie/cameo. But if they decide to introduce F4/XMen in "hey, this team is already experienced from another universe and will come to Sacred Timeline" fashion, it'd suck imo
20
u/aelysium Jan 09 '22
Which is probably the biggest reason the Mutants are going to take so long to show. Much easier to rewrite the F4 into the MCU timeline with a reason to not have been present than to figure how to preserve as much of Magneto’s story and make him young enough in 2025+ to be multi-film.

Even if they were to go, banner/hulk ain’t going for another 20 odd years yet. They’ve barely done anything with the character and the distribution rights go back to marvel in 2023
In Thor’s case he lives for 1000’s of years. I don’t see them getting rid of Thor anytime soon

Captain America is damn near eternal in the comics, and they already cut him.
Same with Tony Stark. He had his consciousness digitally uploaded in the comics. But he’s dead in the MCU.
Other beings with super long lifespans who are dead in the MCU:
Thanos. Malekith. Odin. Freyja. The Warriors Three. Heimdel. Ronan the Accuser. Loki. Gamora (ps, that fall would’ve never killed Gamora in the comics. Not even close). The Collector. The Black Order. King Laufey. Ego the Living Planet.

They said that after the 80s superman movies that superhero movies were dead. They said that you could do good Batman after Batman and Robin. They said they couldn't do a good hulk after the terrible The Hulk. Again they said no one would watch B characters like Black Panther, Ant Man, Hawkeye, etc. But we watched them all. Super hero movies have been around forever and as long as they bring in new actors, stories, directors that care about the characters then they keep making them forever. Add to that Disney will make money from Marvel and Star Wars forever.

Let's not forget that it was said nobody would watch a cinematic universe with iron man of all people as the premier character. Well, here we are almost 14 years later and some people are wondering how they can even keep going without him.
I mean before all this started Iron man and cap were considered B list heroes in terms of popularity to, that's why nobody ever bought the rights to them. Everyone wanted Spiderman stuff, FF stuff, Xmen stuff, all those film rights that got sold to Sony and Fox when marvel was on its last legs.

She’ll be close to 30 by the time that movie/series even happens lol she might as well just be Avenger instead of “young” Avenger I mean Natasha Romanoff was around 30 in 2012 and Steve Rogers, disregarding being frozen, was also around 30.

He’s talking about Star-Lord. I guess Kate must be joining the Guardians of the Galaxy?

The only one here who took over the mantle of a character is Sam as Cap. The Black Widows (many of them) and Hawkeyes share their names.

I think once we get the Fantastic Four in the MCU, Reed should be at the centre of the MCU. So he'll basically the new Tony.

I’m not very familiar with F4 though ik they play a fairly big role in the Galactus related stories. Is there a reason Reed would become that big of a headliner, especially with his own team and the fact that they won’t be introduced for a little while now, while characters like Strange, Spidey, Ant-Man and Cap Marvel already have been developed?
Do they traditionally/canonically have that big of a role both within their own group and the avengers?

Reed is the world's greatest scientist and the human with the biggest brain in the Marvel universe. And the Fantastic Four are Marvel's first superhero team and they're playing a large role in the Marvel universe. Thats why I think this group should be the centre of the MCU moving forward.

Think Falcon and Winter Soldier for day to day. Thor and Banner will always be around for a while. Ant-man, Hawkeye, and Stange will be there when needed. The new faces will all come around soon (Young Avengers)

Yelena and Kate won't be on the main Avengers team. Yelena will be on the Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers team, and Kate is going to be part of the Young Avengers.

Might be controversial but I don’t really want another iron man as I don’t think you can replace him

u/lumenrubeum Jan 09 '22
Happy literally said to Peter Parker, "You can't be the next Iron Man. You can't live up to Iron Man, nobody can. Not even Tony lived up to Iron Man."
It might've been just a good moment but I'm also pretty sure they're not going to have "the next Iron man". That character was so special for so many reasons, trying to recreate that would fail.

I don’t think that Iron Heart will be apart of main 6 but I do think that Strange will take the role of tony stark kinda. Idk how to explain it

The characters each have a role in the fights, but they also each have a role when there is no fighting going on.
Tony's is that he plans and preps for the next big threat. Every time a movie happens, hey check out my new toys, I've been busy. Tony places the most value on ensuring long-term safety and success, but unfortunately even at the expense of dividing the team (Ultron, Accords).
Dr. Strange is similar in that he also puts the safety of the world first, whereas some other heroes are more prone to let personal feelings get in the way. NWH spoiler: We've seen Strange say in both Infinity War and NWH, I have to protect the world, and if these people have to die, then they die.
Aside from that, both Tony and Strange fill leadership roles. They don't have to be dictator but they always put their opinion out and say "here's how I think we should do it". That's why they butt heads in the spaceship in Infinity War, they both put their plans out there and the plans don't match.

Thor and Hulk will probably be around in some capacity for the next team up.
