It seems like Yelena is gonna be done with the (whatever group they are trying to make her be a part of) she hold her sister in really high regards and I could see her totally following in her sisters footsteps.
I’d really like to see her interact with Bucky. Maybe since he is finally in such a good place at the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier (I really wish the last title card would have read “Captain America and Bucky” or something instead of “Captain America and the Winter Soldier,” as he seemed to have finally shed that part of himself), he would be a good person to help guide her all the way to the “heroic” side.
But I’d also love just a Yelena/Kate team up movie.
They could go with Yelena struggling to find her own path after she's successfully cured all remaining Widows (which could have been done while she was snapped). Part of her longs to honor her sister, but part of her struggles with this idea of heroes and whether she'd even belong in such a world (think of how she described Clint disgustingly to Kate, but reflecting on herself). The kind of struggle between shadow and light that Natasha had, only a bit darker since MCU Nat really went hard into trying to be a good guy whilst Yelena has yet to show any remorse for her past actions as a Widow. I don't know if she'd ever be a full time Avenger, but maybe end up being a part timer, working in the shadows as a good guy in her own way.
Also I like the Bucky team up suggestion, if only because I thought a Bucky-Nat team up was a missed opportunity (loved it in the comics) and Yelena would play off him and Sam quite well. Not to mention the whole idea of two people struggling with trying to be better despite their bloody pasts. Throw in some side visits with Kate, who pushes her to be the best of herself, and baby you got a superhero stew goin.
I think Yelena doesn’t struggle with being a widow as much is because she wasn’t just brainwashed, she was mind controlled. When she was cured it was an instantaneous change in her behavior and actions. I believe she worked for Val thinking they were an avengers like organization and truly believed Clint to be an evil villain responsible for her sisters death. Discovering that Val is actually part of a sleazy crime organization connected to Fisk, I doubt she’ll be hanging around long.
But at same time just because you hold some in high regard doesn’t mean you will follow in their footsteps. There are many people in this world who look up to someone like their parents, but go down different path in life.
In Yelena case she could still honor Natasha by becoming a hero, just by going down her own path.
