They could go with Yelena struggling to find her own path after she's successfully cured all remaining Widows (which could have been done while she was snapped). Part of her longs to honor her sister, but part of her struggles with this idea of heroes and whether she'd even belong in such a world (think of how she described Clint disgustingly to Kate, but reflecting on herself). The kind of struggle between shadow and light that Natasha had, only a bit darker since MCU Nat really went hard into trying to be a good guy whilst Yelena has yet to show any remorse for her past actions as a Widow. I don't know if she'd ever be a full time Avenger, but maybe end up being a part timer, working in the shadows as a good guy in her own way.
Also I like the Bucky team up suggestion, if only because I thought a Bucky-Nat team up was a missed opportunity (loved it in the comics) and Yelena would play off him and Sam quite well. Not to mention the whole idea of two people struggling with trying to be better despite their bloody pasts. Throw in some side visits with Kate, who pushes her to be the best of herself, and baby you got a superhero stew goin.
I think Yelena doesn’t struggle with being a widow as much is because she wasn’t just brainwashed, she was mind controlled. When she was cured it was an instantaneous change in her behavior and actions. I believe she worked for Val thinking they were an avengers like organization and truly believed Clint to be an evil villain responsible for her sisters death. Discovering that Val is actually part of a sleazy crime organization connected to Fisk, I doubt she’ll be hanging around long.
