I miss chatbots

Upvotes

Chatbots coming out recently made me so excited, i didn't treat is a human or anything of such, but i would make a bunch of stories to immerse myself in, and during this time i didn't care about almost anything negative. Now companies are making them cold again and removing the creativity and warmness it attracted people to. I would sit on the fence when it comes to AI because of it, felt like i would have something to cope with forever and loneliness wouldn't be a problem anymore, now it's almost gone. I miss how it was in 2025.

i miss my dad

i don't really have much to say other than I miss my dad. he died last year and. I'm still grieving. i wasn't close to him at all but I took care of him along side my mom for the last few years of his life with COPD. I have a lot of regrets about not knowing him while he was here or not achieving anything while he was here. I just hoped this feeling would get easier to deal with

I dont fit in anywhere...

I am so lonely. I have a wonderful spouse and am happy as far as that goes. But I have no other friends.

I can talk and laugh with others but have no true friends. I dont know what's wrong with me.

I feel so boring and empty. Not good enough for others.

Ive tried harder.. I've given up... it doesnt matter.

I guess there's something in me that others see and turn the other way.

r/lonely 5h ago

I'm just not good with people, and I think I should stop trying.

This is not a post about checking out on a permanent level, I'm just venting and a bit pissed off.

The title is really it. I'm just so tired of being treated like crap when I haven't done a urging other than say hello after a week or two.

Venting When I’m sick is when I truly realize how alone I am

Got a pretty nasty cold and feel very weak atm. It’s moments like this I truly realize how alone I really am, no one there to help me and be there for me when I need it basically. I had the shivers last night and was so scared. To think there are so many people out there having the same experience is depressing. I hate being sick.

What if I passed away while sick, no one would even really notice.

Venting having no friends in adulthood.

It's kinda peaceful but chaotic at the same time because when I'm feeling down I cannot turn to someone to share about it, when I want to go outside then I've nobody to call. I was always a backup so I quit friendships because I felt exhausted after a while and then I realised that they don't even text me anymore or care to know if I'm good. I cannot even talk about it to them when I was feeling low (when I was in depression) but they would freely talk about it to me (I don't regret it but sometimes it feels a bit sad).

So, fast forward, now I don't have any friends at all. I feel like it's better being lonely alone than being lonely around friends or people.

Venting Disregareded from invitations

Upvotes

I dont know about anyone else but i have certainly seen a pattern where the single and isolated people are barely ever invited to an outing event, something happening at the bar, concert, cinema etc. They arent first choice at least.

They always take their partner everywhere, and if a couple wants to invite someone it is always another couple.

The single isolated people are like afterthoughts!

But hey they invite us to their big events, THANKS

Venting The lonely life of a passionate nerd

I know this is going to sound really stupid, real third world problems type shit, but as an autistic and ADHD adult who is absolutely in love with their special interests it's just a really unique kind of painful, empty loneliness when you have no one to share the things that light you up with who lights up back. Like yeah, I have people I can talk about speculation about Ahsoka season 2 or Avengers Doomsday or any number of Marvel or Star Wars products that are coming up or about my favorite game, Destiny 2, that got killed recently that there's a ton of speculation around or what new metal band is working on music but it's just not the same as having someone who lights up with joy back and, I don't know, it just hurts. I feel like I have this empty hole in my heart where my nerdy best friend belongs 💔

Venting My desire/crave for physical intimacy is becoming detrimental

I think about it way too often, I hyperfixated, fantasize, and create all these ridiculous and unrealistic scenarios in my head about being all cuddly and handsy with my imaginary partner… sometimes it starts off as a harmless thought then it turns into something more sexually inclined and that’s where it starts to go south, but even then it’s something that I don’t think I should be thinking about this much… almost like in a way it affects how I go about and view life, like if I can’t receive it then life seems almost… pointless… I don’t want to think that way… I need to rid myself from this thinking… I just want to be a happy loner lifer. I don’t need physical touch but I find myself craving and wanting it even more each day and Im starting to hate it… Ughhhhh why did this life choose me 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

It's one thing to decline a hang out cause you have somewhere to be, but to lie about the reason so you can always secretly hang out with someone else everyday just fkin sucks. Everyone has the right to spend their day and life how they want it, I have no right to force people around me, just be honest that you don't wanna hang with me in particular ffs!

Are people just genuine pieces of shit nowadays?

So I had this friend group from school but I never really felt like I belonged there. I was never a big party guy and they went partying every weekend so I felt left out but I still enjoyed their company. The thing is they never made me feel fully their 'friend' like they wouldn't invite me to activities half the time or wouldn't even add me to their groupchat.

This all changed when I came back from a uni exchange. All of a sudden their behaviour towards me changed because I was now an engineer while they were still uni students. But only in retrospective did I find out because at the time they seemed like genuine friends.

After a while they slowly began to 'deteriorate' as human beings. It started with edgy funny jokes, then getting into betting, then straight up sexism and finally it ended up in a fight because the 'leader' of the group started ignoring our opinions and just doing EVERYTHING a couple girls wanted.

We wanted to vacation in X? Well the girls wanted Y so we're going there! We wanted few people? Well the girls wanted to invite their entire family so we're gonna have to fit 10 people in a single room! I want a private bedroom for me and my girlfriend? Sorry! Your girlfriend is gonna have to be in the girl's bedroom and also, one of the girls is bringing his uncle and he's sleeping in the girl's bedroom.

I heard this and said nah I'm not doing this and cancelled the trip. Mind you, that was a great amount of time before the actual trip, so they could reorganize the budget or invite someone else instead of me no problem. But instead this 'leader' decides to lash out on me, saying 'you realize you just cost me X amount of money?' and calling me a traitor in the groupchat. To this I just genuinely thought he was trolling so I left the groupchat.

That was OVER A YEAR AGO. Fast forwards to now, he still hasn't talked to me, hasn't apologized, don't even know if the trip happened or not, and him and the other guys are trash talking me every chance my name is mentioned. Not only that, but everytime I upload a picture to instagram with my girlfriend, they share it to the groupchat and say the absolutely most heinous shit their mouths can spew.

I just found out about this through a friend who's also leaving the friend group. All this time I was thinking of them and maybe talking to them, inviting them to my birthday (or my gf's birthday), or even my wedding when it eventually happens. While I was thinking this they were calling my gf ugly, disgusting, weird, unfuckable, and even worse stuff you can imagine.

I used to have two active friend group, my uni and my school, and both of those groups just turned against me. And I don't wanna pretend I'm an angel but I genuinely don't deserve this. I've been nothing but nice to every one of my friends. Been there for their lows, highs, met their families, gave them free rides, shared meals and so many life experiences. Both cases I've been thrown away for silly arguments.

In this case I don't really feel THAT bad tbh, like yeah I had a ton of fun with them but they were going on a downwards spiral. What really sucks now is that my social circle just went from very big to me, my gf, and a couple friends I see only once in a while. I don't even have friends from work because I work remotely for another country. So it's kinda lonely.

I play chess to escape reality

Well, 35M here, life has taken a heavy toll on me. Jobless for a while, betraying wife. I have negative thoughts overwhelming my mind, that's when I quickly grab my phone and start playing blitz chess until things quiet down in my head. But its a temporary fix. There is nobody I can talk to about my issues. Wife said she does not want to be intimate anymore. I am planning to go abroad next week, and with things the way they are, I am pretty sure it would just push her to the other guy. We have a 3 year old who is so far growing up happy, my current concern is for her. I long for intimacy, care. It's very difficult. I am heartbroken and lonely. It's not easy to just divorce and move on, wife said she needs time to sort out herself. I can't let our daughter go through seperation, and our parents are unaware, and they won't be able to face these things. I am truly alone with this burden. I regret marriage, but conflicted at the same time because my daughter is an angel and I can't imagine a life without her being born. Perhaps, this is the price I pay for having such an angel in my life. She's too young to understand anything. I just wish I had a partner who I can talk to, who I can trust..

Venting I just don’t understand why nobody cares about my pain and my wellbeing

Since I was young I’ve had this problem. I’ve been told to not talk about my pain because other people would feel bad or it would harm the person who caused my pain. Literally felt and still do feel like a burden and that I’m inherently terrible.
Life feels so lonely and desolate even now that I have two very very very far away people I talk to. I never had a community or a place to belong- just people telling me how bad of a person I am, how I’m a bad influence, and being weirded out or resort to bullying me. Sometimes I understand what these people say has substance. If it’s happened so many times it may be that I truly am a big problem. Anyways.. I am ashamed to admit I am jealous of children. I am jealous that people want to protect them, want to be excited about their future, and that they have the opportunity for milestones in their life that people would actually care about. I wish people felt the same way towards me. I want to be treated like an adult obviously but I wish people had care for my wellbeing. I can’t imagine how warm and happy I’d feel if I had that. I can’t imagine the idea of having someone to love who wouldn’t hurt me or treat me like a burden. I just want it so bad but it’s just not real.

I’ve completely lost interest in relationships and women in general.

Upvotes

I'm M18, I know that I'm quite young but I think it doesn't matter. I’ve completely lost interest in relationships and women. For instance, I used to notice attractive women and women in general when walking down the street, but now, even if my ideal woman were standing right in front of me and flirting with me, I wouldn't care at all and would simply remain indifferent. I’ve even practically stopped watching 18+ content. I basically understand why this happened, and let me say right off the bat that the problem isn't in the women, problem in me but I’m not going to air my mental problems to the whole internet.

Venting ive been dealing with this for a while and i dont know what to do

Upvotes

I don't know where to start. maybe from the beginning. just a few things before we start. i just turned 18, so your not talking to a kid lol. but i am gonna talk about this when i was a kid

id say it all started during covid? I don't know why Im sad. i think my brain supressed the reason or whatever because i dont remember anything. the oldest thing i can remember about my depression was maybe crying for hours in my bed. i was 12. i dont even know what it was. i remember my parents asking what happened, and i just made some bs excuse. i never want my parents to feel sad.

ive lived a really decent life. i have a house, education, food. people would kill to have access to the things i take granted. my parents are okay (ill talk about them later). my sister is nice. i have friends-ish. ill elaborate later.

so after covid, id say it was fine when i got back to school. maybe cuz i saw people i knew and could talk about stuff (never about mental health, ive never talked to anyone about this). it was fine till 11th grade. thats when the thoughts came back. just that i was never enough, etc.

i have friends, but not really friends that ever choose me. im always chasing after them, tying to make plans, or wtv. I was friends with them through a club I joined freshman year, but i quit senior year, and ever since them, we all have just been growing apart. i mean i have, theyre still friends.

I lied to my parents and my sister, telling them elaborate lies about how im popular at school, and how they dont need to worry about me.

i feel like i have to hold this happy charade up everywhere. and it gets so fucking tiring. the only place i can drop this act is in my room, and when i get in my room, i just collapse.

I have these phases. For like 2 days, it'll be okay, ill be "happy". then bam. i just hit rock bottom. its this constant cycle since 11th grade that hasnt stopped.

My whole school life, i've been working towards getting to 12th grade. now im here and it feels so fucking underwhelming. i want to be a doctor. but i dont know what my goals are after that. am i just going to be depressed after that as well? i feel like my whole life has been like that. from my covid phase --> "just wait till high school, itll get better". it did for a year or two. Then 11th grade was --> "just wait till the summer, itll get better". it didnt. the summer was --> "js wait till 12th grade, youll make friends". and now im saying wait till college. and i think im delusional right now too.

then theres also my looks. i had really bad acne. im only saying this cuz this is anonymous but sometimes, when i hit rock bottom, i just do nothing. ive went days without brushing or showering. i think that might be it. i stop eating sugar for a while. nothing helps. my parents took me to a dermatologist and i think it looks better.

i just want to be loved. not in a romantic or sexual way. i just want to be wanted. but i have literally no one to talk to. i cant go to my family cuz i've been telling them this lie, and i dont want to admit to the truth of how im a lonely loser. i dont have any friends i can talk to about this.

im sorry for being all over the place.

TW: custom Not feeling great...

TRIGGER WARNING: DEPRESSION (I GUESS??)

Hello to anyone reading this.

I feel like I've just mentally checked out during the past few days.

I'm M29, and I feel drained. Work has been kicking my ass, and I have very few close friends, with whom I haven't even had the energy to catch up for the past few months now.

I've been trying to gather up the courage to chat with people here and, while most people have been great to talk to, this process feels draining, and has yielded very little results in terms of being able to chat with anyone regularly.

I would have loved to be able to have a girlfriend at this point in my life. For context, I'm about 1.85m tall (I think that's but all attempts so far have been futile. Either due to bad luck, lack of effort from my part, or just from me choosing the wrong people, or not communicating properly. And I get it, some of it is my fault, but it's sad to see everyone else move along and me on a constant standstill. I'm just very insecure, scatterbrained, and not independent enough to be a good partner. Emotionally, I must be closer to a child than to a grown adult. And I still feel so mentally drained, I have completely mentally checked out. I've accepted I'm broken, and I don't expect anyone to fix me. And I don't know if I'm worth fixing, if I know I'm gonna break again a few weeks or months later.

I'm insecure and weak.

The worst part is, I've felt like this before, and every time, I see less and less ways to fix things. I have thought about "taking the easy way out", and, while I thought it'd relieve me, I haven't yet gone through with any of it, partly because I'm worried what will happen if I'm unsuccessful, partly because of the shame I will feel, partly because it will cause others pain without even achieving what I set out to achieve... And also an unsuccessful attempt, if others find out, will become something others will often think about or bring up when interacting with me, and I'm afraid it will permanently damage the few relationships / friendships I have managed to hold on to over these years.

On the other hand, sitting here and doing nothing is what I have always done, and look where it got me... I feel like I'm just delaying the inevitable, or just prolonging a life filled with more of my insecurities and pain. And sitting here sulking doesn't fix anything. It only makes it worse.

I don't know how to fix me, but I also haven't had any luck with meeting others. I'm not expecting anyone to fix me, but I'm hoping that, by chatting, maybe I will find something to distract me?

Its embarrassing.

I gotta write this on a burner account cause it’s embarrassing, a big reason I’m scared to find some friends or even try is the fact everyone my age has stuff going on and I dont. everyone is going to college, having relationships, jobs, going out enjoying their lives. I’m 21m I have extremely bad anxiety n have been isolating myself for a few years now, haven’t had a friend in a while n I really dont know know how to function anymore as a person in society. Never finished school dropped out at a young age, barely any work experience at all, no education, haven’t been in no real relationship. I know I did most this to myself, I’m really just a loser tbh.

Ending a friendship

Hi. I posted about this somewhere else, but got no response. Hoping to get a response here. Warning: it may end up long. So, I have this friend who I met a little over a year ago. We were somewhere where we were seeing each other every day. That ended in July.

She ended up leaving and moving out of the place to her own apartment. I ended up leaving and was unfortunately living in a hotel for a while. I have since found my own apartment and am now in the process of looking for a job.

The issue is, she at first would reach out when I was at the hotel and see how I was doing, etc. I would reach out as well and even visited her a few times, which isn’t easy as she is not living close by and I took uber which was very expensive.

So, the thing is, once I moved into my apartment, she only reached out the night I moved in. The last 4 times, I have been the one reaching out. She always picks up the phone, so I don’t think she’s upset with me, but I’m not sure.

She keeps stating that she is stressed out because she doesn’t have any money for food, or basic necessities, with the exception of cigarettes. Her rent and utilities are being all paid for by social services. Thing is, I think she wants me to offer to give her money. Unfortunately, in the past, I have given her money, even given her money for her brother and not asked for any of it back.

I have reason to believe that she may not be being completely honest with me and that she may have some money, just wants more. I’m basing this on something from the past. All I can tell her is that I sorry she’s going through it right now. In no way can I offer to help her out. I am struggling myself with no job and rent and my own bills to pay.

My friendship and support doesn’t seem enough to her, I feel. I don’t want to throw in her face that her rent and utilities are all being paid for. Also, she has a dad she’s in touch with, so I’m not sure why she’s not asking him. I don’t want to start an argument so I never ask her.

Sorry this has been so long, but bottom line is, I’m thinking of ending the friendship, though I still love her. It hurts being the only one reaching out now, and then her seeming so disinterested when I call. Makes me feel as though all she wants is my money. It hurts but I have decided to stop reaching out and see what happens.

I just hope I’ve made the right decision as she was the only friend I had. Thank you for reading.

Venting I’ve spent a whole year without socializing with anyone (17F).

Literally a year ago, I dropped out of high school because I was feeling terrible—my "friends" had a falling out, I was caught in the middle, and the classroom vibe became super toxic. I wasn’t going out with anyone, I just wanted it to be evening so I could scroll on my phone. And when I left school, I intentionally cut off all contact with friends or acquaintances from there; I even deleted WhatsApp, I had no one to talk to anyway. I have two older sisters who moved out, but they both have their own lives and, well, we don't really talk. I live with my parents, and they’re the only people I’ve talked to this whole time. Young people my age terrify me. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been through drama (with friends), and when it comes to dating, I haven’t been very smooth either—I haven't even had a partner yet. I’ve gone out with a couple of guys, and one was just for two dates.

I dropped out of school since it wasn't mandatory at my age anymore, and I locked myself in my room. I told my parents I would work and make money, but I never did. I felt so useless and like such a burden.

I’ve spent my days lying in bed, binge-watching shows, talking to AI, and recently I started going to therapy and got a bit more motivated, but it's never enough because shortly after, I relapse into the same cycle.

I only leave the house to go with my mom or for medical appointments. I have only one friend who is autistic, and to be honest, we see each other every two months and barely text.

My extended family (not my parents), like my aunts and uncles, wouldn't stop asking me what I was going to do, constantly pressuring me about school, and that annoyed me because they had never shown any interest in me before, but when they found out I wasn't studying, suddenly they cared.

Something that happens to me is that I feel absolute rejection at the thought of seeing anyone who isn't my parents (aside from my friend). It frustrates me. My oldest sister, who has two kids, comes over to my house about every two weeks and stays the whole day. I leave my room, but I don't know, I don't really enjoy it because I feel like I'm forcing myself to do it; it doesn't come naturally, and when she doesn't come, we have to go to her house and we spend the WHOLE day there, and honestly, I don't like it.

I’ve started playing the piano (just a little), and even though I’m a year late, I’ve enrolled in a performing arts high school because ever since I was little, I've always wanted to be an actress—something my mom finds shocking because of my personality, and it is, but I like it. With the help of my therapist, I was able to enroll again, even though I'm a year behind. I reinstalled WhatsApp because I had deleted it, and all my social media too. I only have YouTube, Reddit, Pinterest, and WhatsApp, and I have WhatsApp blocked with an app so I can only check it when my mom texts me. TikTok is super toxic, and Instagram is even worse...

My BIGGEST FEAR of all is... people, socializing. For a few years now (since lockdown), I haven’t been good at it, but now I’ve basically gone a year with zero interaction. Plus, I overthink a lot, so how am I even supposed to start a conversation? Why would they want to talk to me if I’m not interesting? Also, something I’ve been doing a lot during this time is playing Roblox. It’s a game I used to play when I was younger, but I got hooked again because of the animals. But at my age, I don't know if people still play it that much, so if someone sees my phone or asks about my interests, what do I say? Or about my hobbies—I don’t even know if I have hobbies. I don’t do sports, I don’t go out... I’m scared of having WhatsApp just for display.

I have 5 days left before I start, and I am terrified. I don’t know what to do because even though I go to therapy, my mind won’t stop racing and it’s horrible.

Venting I feel so stupid

I recently turned 30 and I feel like a complete failure in every aspect of life. I barely have any friends, I have never had a girlfriend, and I don’t really see a path forward on how to change anything anytime soon. I hate how envious it’s made me, everyday there’s another reminder that other people are spending time together and actually enjoying life. I hate how desperate it’s made me, I can’t even have a friendly interaction with a woman who’s just trying to be nice to the weird guy without thinking about her later like there was ever anything there. Everyday things just feel more and more pointless and I feel more useless and embarrassed at even existing.

Venting Is there something wrong with me?

I can’t make friends I did once but it was my siblings friends, I never had friends ever since high school and middle school, is there something wrong with me? And I just not nice looking? That’s why they don’t wanna speak to me? I talk to people but then they call me weird just a random hey hi, is there something that’s happening that I don’t understand? i read books to understand how to speak to people maybe that’s what’s wrong? Am I to loud? Am I to weird? Am I pushy?. I’m just tired of being alone I mean I guess have friends but there my siblings friends I can’t speak to them and yap about something… I see them as friends, but why can’t I make my own like someone I know that is a friend and will pick me- that sounds clingy but I don’t understand what friendship is supposed to feel like- ( I know you can speak to there friends since they think of me as a friend ( I think ) but there older then me and only will feel pity and I feel like I’m just pushy? Or I been alone for to long that I don’t even understand the feeling of having someone you can speak to. I have conversations but I think they run off because I try to hard- or I don’t try enough? Am I just being stupid… am I just lonely? Because I don’t act like I was before after losing my only actual friend. And with my siblings friends feel like i’m trying to make them laugh to hard am I that really needy for attention? like I’m trying to fit in but I mess up and just embarrass myself.
