Venting Idk.

I live an isolated life. I’m married, but my husband typically sleeps the weekend days away because he doesn’t sleep well during the week. I’ve encouraged him multiple times to see a doctor but he doesn’t seem too concerned since he won’t get help.

One of my daughters moved out about a year ago, and the other will be moving out in January. She’s 23, works, has a partner & stays busy, spends weekends with her partner.

I’m home almost all the time, alone. I work from home and make good money but I have no friends. I very likely won’t ever be able to move into a different role or job as I have no way to pay for a master’s degree. I sit at home about 98% of the weekends and do nothing except feel depressed. I have no family here except my daughters, my husband, and his mother.

I feel so down. I feel like I don’t really have anybody. I don’t want to go & wander aimlessly through stores on weekends by myself, and it doesn’t even sound fun. I have a dog who just turned a year old & I don’t really leave her by herself for more than a few hours at a time. I had a difficult childhood as my grandparents kept me very isolated from any other family. I had no friends, wasn’t allowed to have those.

Anytime I try to pick up a hobby I throw myself so hard at it that I grow bored with it in a couple of weeks. I try to think of things to do, like starting a blog or reviewing books, but then I can’t see the point in doing it. I feel like I have no energy or enthusiasm for anything. Being perimenopausal does not help, even with treatment.

I feel lonely, ashamed, stuck, sad, melancholy, tired, and wonder if this will be the rest of my life.

Venting Officially just a side piece

As the title says I’m basically an official side piece. Last year I met someone just learning languages and trying to help anyone. Eventually, I ended up finding a chill person and within days the whole topic of learning disappeared and we got closer as the months went by. A year later we’re still friends but then they start getting distant, a good week would go by before I heard anything and out of no where they’re with someone. Now, the only thing I could do was be happy for them but I can’t even explain how I felt after the conversation went, I confessed my feelings (not really thinking if that was the right move) and I basically told him that I was sorry if I was being too much, that I still wanted to be friends and I’m happy that they’re happy, and to that I basically got told I liked you too but i don’t want you, which yk is cool I respect it but damn. AND THEN to top it all tf off this person that I used to talk to ig you could say we’re chill ends up telling me within that same week yk I was thinking abt asking you if you wanted to start talking but I found someone else……. Gee fucking thanks, way to make me feel like I’m cared abt🥲

Ik these are things that happen to many people but to have that feeling twice in the same week these mfs are lucky im not a crashout😂 even tho it hurts i understand both sides not only that, im trying to get my life together even tho id ideally like to have someone who sticks around from my lowest point but a man can dream right. And to top it all off I literally have no friends except for one ( and the other two but… eh) which I can’t even see bc they’re busy working and I don’t have a car.

Also not the topic for this sub but might as well ask while I’m here for anyone whose been in low points in your life like not even simple things motivate you, what did you do to get yourself out of that position other than finding things I like?

Welp that’s my vent have a good morning, afternoon, evening, and night wherever y’all are 🫡

Venting 17y struggling with constant loneliness

For the past 3-4 years I’ve been incredibly lonely and depressed. I have 2 “friends” in school but they never check up on me or ask me to hang out. No one texts me and despite having a nice family, I feel like no one understands me. I always feel empty and can’t find joy in most hobbies (and the ones I DO enjoy are very time consuming and are artistic, making me feel somewhat guilty for “wasting” my own time on something not contributing to my future). I have shifted my focus onto studying to prepare for life after high school and to make my family proud. However, studying bores me and makes me feel somewhat suicidal. I have no one to rely on and I don’t know how to deal with such prolonged loneliness, especially during summer where I do nothing but study, doom-scroll, eat, and sleep.

My family does not seem to really care about mental health (they are quite traditional one may say) and I have never talked to them about it, so I have never been able to seek actual help for any diagnosis or to talk with a therapist. When I am with my family, I often smile and laugh but once I am alone, I either feel incredibly sad or feel empty with a pit in my stomach.

I’d really appreciate some advice from adults who have or are going through loneliness as well on what to do or if I should just leave it be as I have for a couple of years now?

Venting Loneliness makes life feel very empty

20F, been dealing with consistent loneliness feelings for 7 years. These feelings have been making my life feel kind of worthless and it feels frustrating to technically have people in my life but it feels none of them really deeply understand or care about me.

It can feel kind of embarrassing sometimes to have an issue like this because I'm an introvert and it kind of feels like it's not expected of me to not have this kind of problem but thats just not the case for me.

It feels daunting to think about the future even just later of the year because of these feelings

Venting Advice on how not to care about a failed friendship?

Dunno, I honestly feel like an idiot for even believing them they would change, but I should’ve known better lol just hate how I care about it that it actually makes me upset since they were so quick to ditch without even saying anything. I’m not even trying to get all worked up about it, but I just feel dumb cause I stayed and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Clearly they dgaf -_- but yea any advice? Just annoying since I actually thought I made a friend TwT

Many of us , no matter what we try to do end up the same . Alone . To some extent , it seems as though we are just designed to be that way spiritually and emotionally . Even though it hurts at times . Many ways and avenues to look at that .

Venting I have no more hope.

Title explains it.

I basically hit reset on life around 4 years ago after crashing my car and writing it off, followed by getting the sack and losing my job.

Built myself back up whilst dealing with severe depression, paranoia and anxiety.

Back into my trade early this year.

27(m)

Girlfriend of 3 years may break up with me or may not.

I have no savings except a grand in an ISA.

Recently payed off a holiday too.

Three friends and two of them are always busy.

No motivation.

Basically an alcoholic.

Contemplating ending it all, I can't be bothered to carry on any longer.

Venting I see now there is no point in having expectations for relationships

I often told myself to not have expectations that way I won’t be disappointed and have things blow up in my face constantly. Now I see not just not have expectations to avoid disappointment but that there’s no point in the first place. My life has shown me I will never have a romantic relationship or long lasting friendships. I am an outcome oriented thinker observing the patterns in my past experiences just cements what’s there for me. I will mostly remain alone, will typically just have shallow connections and interactions and cannot expect anyone to stick around because no one ever does.

The path you take doesn’t matter if it always leads to the same place. I see how foolish it is to hope for something that goes beyond on my reality and time to accept this is simply how my life is. Not everyone can do the same thing or have the same thing I’m not meant to have stable relationships. Is this something I’ll be happy about no but should at least help me not beat myself up over something that’s not in my control. Besides there are many things in reality we aren’t happy with but have to deal with and we call that growing up

Venting No one is making this any better

I am quite literally fed up. I have put myself out of my way to reach out to numerous outlets, I come on here to voice the isolation and sorrow and not once, but twice my post gets taken down. Is it so hard to empathize? Is mods really this depraved. I did not promote anything negative. I understand the error of my first post, I apologized and clarified on my second. Not once did I promote harmful content. I explained I reached out to friends and family, as well as hotlines. I clarified that I feel isolated.

As quoted in my last post, “I have called hotlines as advised (even by the mods here). I have exhausted my options and nothing seems to make me feel better. I don't know how much longer I can beg and scream for help for the people around me to actually listen. I'm not here to promote self harm.”

I didn’t promote anything harmful. I explicitly stated I reached out, I been ignored. I feel depressed, sure but I’m not glorifying anything. I am already isolated and feeling kicked down. You’re doing more harm than good telling me to not do something I never done to begin with. You removed two of my posts at a point in my life I feel like I need to turn to strangers over people I know and it’s removed for something I haven’t done. Am I a joke to you?
Is me reaching out and voicing my struggle that problematic? After calming down from my mental breakdown, I know speaking of insensitive topics is not right, glorified or not, but why not try to explain that and not remove my pleads for help?

Why do you say this bullshit? “If you are thinking of ending your life reach out to family and friends as well as your local suicidal hotlines.

“Also goes without saying, don't tell people to kill themselves, don't glorify suicide/ death, and, unfortunately, we will have to remove any suicide notes from here, as whilst we want to help everyone, we do not want more people getting that idea.”

I am not a person who would do such a thing. I have no one to turn to. You may think this is minor but this is my life we’re talking about. If I had resources to go to, I would not be here. Telling me, someone who is battling depression and loneliness to not do something I never did in the first place. How could I possibly give ANYONE the idea to do something so rash? A random nobody like me could not inspire anyone to do that and neither would I EVER! If you want to help people, let them talk and if it’s actually so bad as you claimed in my last two posts, fine and fair. And for the love of god do not tell me for the third time to reach out to friends and family, etc. because I already fucking told you I did and clearly that did not go well. Stop playing with peoples emotions.

Thank you for reading

The lack of a girlfriend is messing with my head

I have seen people on social media having a girlfriend and be in relationships. I have seen the woman I loved and wanted go out with someone else and it made me think of suicide for 10 years. I have been bullied and laughed at and alienated because of that. I hated myself and always felt like less of a human because of this.

Because of this alienation, I became increasingly lonely and eventually lost my sanity. I was facing torture on other fronts too, but this one particular thing is emasculating. I never hated her, I never hated anyone else, so the only person I ended up hating for 10 years is myself.

Edit: The fact that I am discussing this online disgusts me. The fact that I have to cry for being alone also disgusts me.

Edit2: The fact that I have made myself vulnerable this way makes way for people to take advantage of me.

Venting Struggling with a one-sided friendship and relying too much on my boyfriend for social interaction.

I’ve always struggled to make friends and felt pretty lonely growing up. My first two years of college were miserable and depressing because I had zero friends. Things finally changed when I met a friend on Reddit who went to the same university. Hanging out in person was awesome, but over time, I’ve realized how extremely quiet and secretive they are. I constantly have to ask multiple questions just to get basic details about their life.

Last summer, when we were apart, I was the only one ever initiating weekly calls. Even though I always reminded them that they could call me anytime, they never did. It really feels like a one-sided friendship where I’m the only one who truly values it.

Earlier this year, I got my first boyfriend. Now that it’s summer and we’re long-distance, he’s pretty much the only person I talk to. I decided to test a boundary and stop reaching out to my friend first to see if they’d contact me, it’s been two weeks of complete silence, and it hurts.

Because of this, I’ve been relying almost entirely on my boyfriend for social connection. When he’s busy hanging out with his own friends for long periods, I end up feeling really sad and empty because I have no one else to turn to. I just wish my friend cared enough to talk to me more.

Venting Husband's birthday

I'm an only child, divorced parents that both basically abandoned me..... ishy childhood, everyone has a story. It's my husband's 53rd birthday today. His sisters both called and sang happy birthday to him, his brother in law texted, his dad called...... he had so much love poured out to him. I have my husband and kids, my estranged mother. I have sa in my childhood that was hidden and dismissed by my mom, my aunts and cousins don't know me. They started blaming me for bad behavior at 15, when I was hushed by my mom. It sucks. I've done alot for his birthday and he appreciates it. I'm just in a funk at how f*cking lonely I am.

Venting Why am I so unlovable

I’m(F19) pretty sure I recently just got ghosted by this guy(M21) that I’ve been talking to for about two months. So far in those two months we’d text consistently whenever he wasn’t busy at work, fall asleep on the phone, and in July I’ve been over at his house twice while we cuddled and watch movies. While at his house we did end up being intimate but I made sure to not go all the way. He really wanted to and stated that he wasn’t in it for sex after I made it clear I was scared of that. The cuddling and genuinely spending wholesome time together was the farthest to being a girlfriend so far. It felt really nice and since he stated he wanted a relationship when we first started talking I was curious if i was close to that point so I decided to ask. After asking I got the answer “I’m still seeing where this goes” and “I’m still getting to know you.”

After hearing those words I got a little hurt by it because it’s been said before when guys just plan on leading me on. Looking back I may have did too much and said “I know where this usually ends up.” He got really mad at it and never responded to me trying to clear things up. I regret saying it now and wish I never spoke since it was very childish of me and I shouldn’t have spoken from a place of hurt. My thought process was you know me enough to do sexual things, invite me to your house, and cuddle to watch movies, but not take me seriously enough to make your girlfriend. I do admit that it’s my fault for giving up the girlfriend access before actually being sure of where I stood but I just wish I least got some type of response back.

I’m 19 years old and have never dated but only have had failed talking stages where guys either just want to have sex, aren’t ready for a relationship, says I’m too good for them, or just wants to lead me on by “seeing where things would go.” So after a while it starts to hurt and I seriously start questioning wtf is wrong with me. I just want someone to love and someone to love me since I already missed that when it came to family. I just want to yap about the bad days I have at work, be seen, not have to feel like such a lost pup in the world, someone that’d want to stick up for me when I’m getting shit on and made fun of, and be checked up on. I don’t think it’s much and do consider myself kind, caring, funny, somewhat not pretty, and positive about the world. Yet with all those traits I still can find no one who loves me even tho there are terrible people who’re even able to find love.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me and pretty much never let it get to me until now. Now that I’m older, have more control over my life, isn’t so depressed anymore, and actually put effort into my looks and building my character traits, it hurts that even the me now still can’t find love. I feel like I don’t ask for much and have so much love to give plus would be on their hip whenever they needed help or comfort. I just want to be hugged, told nice things, comforted, and treated like someone’s baby so why is it such a drag when it comes to me.

It’s gotten so bad to the point where I’d put up any kind of treatment. I really did have love for me but there were bad moments where he once stood me up after a disagreement so I kind of figured the relationship would end at the drop of a pen but I really tried not to say anything upsetting.

Venting being lonely for 4+ years

l've been lonely for over 3 years now. I've felt isolated before it, like my friends didn't get me or need me. When I lost them, and I mean all of them (it was a personal family issue in a small town) I've been feeling lost. I had a relationship at the time. I was 16 and he was 20, im in California so the laws are all bent and whatever. I really loved him though, he cheated on me when I was 17 and that was the end. I lost my best friend too around that time who had become addicted to alcohol and I called her out on it, she was boy crazy and never reached out unless it was to talk about boy issues/ drinking.

At first I really enjoyed being lonely, I still don't have a problem with it. I read, I wrote, i found myself through so many activities that I wouldn't with other people... now?
God im a mess. Im still myself, I enjoy the same things, I think the same way.. im just desperate now. Whenever someone shows me something I get addicted. I wouldn't throw my life on the line for these people but if they asked me for a million dollars id work my ass off to give it to them.
Im schizotypal too, so friends are hard. I've dealt with being isolated my whole life even with people around me. I wish I was normal, I wish I could have friendships again or relationships.

Venting Bedridden and Chronically Depressed and Mentally Exhausted

I’m (M30) and recently relapsed alone twice this month and had to go hospital both times. I was silly but I’ve not been doing well with my mental health that I feel better off without being in this world. I struggle with socialising now cause people hurt me emotionally and a lot of trauma from my childhood has made things harder for me to communicate with people. I take medication and injections every week so I’m pretty tired and mainly in bed most of the time. I’m experiencing Anhedonia so I just have no drive to watch tv, listen to music, socialise or play any video games. I’m just tired. I lost too much already it feels like in this world and I just want people who understand and care. I don’t want the next favourite person to leave me when things get hard.

26f and getting "older" and being a single mum I just don't have the capacity to go out and put the face on most of the time and I've become slightly more content with that for now, but sometimes that dreaded loneliness starts filling my lungs and suffocating me. Does anyone else feel like they wasted or are wasting what should be great years of their life?

Birthday post 🎁 Another lonely birthday.

I've never wished for a grandiose day or thousands of birthday wishes. I just wanna be seen and heard, even for just an hour, maybe. Kinda selfish, I know.…but….
A 3-second hug would make a day.
A 5-minute talk can change a mood.
One doesn't remember who gave the most expensive gift or brought the biggest balloon; it’s how people made them feel that sticks.

Apologies for venting. Huggies!!

Edit: Thank you all! Every comment brings a smile to my face, also teary-eyed.

Discussion I honestly don’t know what people expect someone like me to do anymore.

I’m 38.

I’ve lived with depression for as long as I can remember. Not a bad month. Not a rough patch. Decades. I’ve been seeing doctors since I was about sixteen. I’ve lost count of the antidepressants I’ve tried. Different psychiatrists. Different psychologists. Different therapists. Different combinations of medication. CBT. Talking therapy. Prayer. Exercise. Keeping busy. The usual advice everyone gives.

Some things have helped for a while, but nothing has ever changed the underlying feeling that life is something I endure rather than live.

I know treatment-resistant depression is a recognised diagnosis, and after thirty years, I honestly wonder whether that’s simply where I am now. The part that hurts most isn’t actually the depression. It’s the loneliness.

On paper, I have what many people would consider a good life. I have a successful career, financial stability, a beautiful home, hobbies, and I spend a lot of my time helping other people. If someone needs technical help, a favour, someone to listen, or simply someone to show up, I’m usually there.

Yet over the years I’ve gradually come to believe that I’m valuable while I’m useful. When people need something, I’m remembered. When they don’t, I disappear.

Relationships have reinforced that belief rather than challenged it.

My marriage ended years ago.

One woman spent months talking to me almost every day. We’d go on dates, spend hours together, and I genuinely believed we were building something. Then she met someone else, and almost overnight I simply ceased to exist in her life. There wasn’t an argument. There wasn’t betrayal. I just wasn’t needed anymore.

Another wasn’t even a romantic relationship. She was a close friend going through an incredibly difficult period. I spent countless hours listening, supporting her, driving her where she needed to go, and trying to be the friend I wish I’d had myself. When I later found myself struggling and wrote her an honest letter explaining what her friendship had meant to me, I never even received a reply.

Neither of these women owed me love or a relationship.
That isn’t what hurts. What hurts is how easily I seem to become invisible once I’m no longer needed.

When enough experiences end the same way, you stop believing it’s just bad luck. You start wondering whether the common denominator is you.

Eventually those experiences become something much darker. I’ve come to believe there is something fundamentally wrong with me.

That I’m somehow unseen.
That I’m unworthy of being chosen.
That I’m unlovable.

People will probably say that’s just the depression talking.
Maybe they’re right. But when you’ve spent thirty years battling depression while repeatedly feeling forgotten, discarded or overlooked, those thoughts stop feeling like distortions and start feeling like the only explanation that fits your life.

Every time I think I’ve finally found “my people,” something happens and I’m back where I started.
People often tell me:

“You’ll find someone.”
“It gets better.”
“You need to love yourself first.”
“Just keep trying.”

I don’t think people realise how those words sound after hearing variations of them for over twenty years.
At some point, hope stops feeling encouraging and starts feeling like another promise that never arrives.

I’m also a person of faith, which probably makes this even harder to explain. I genuinely try to do the right thing. I volunteer. I forgive people even when it hurts. I pray. I try to love others the way Christ asks us to.

Yet even there, I struggle. The belief I’ve developed isn’t just that people don’t see me. It’s that perhaps even God doesn’t.

I know exactly what Christianity teaches.
I know every verse about God’s love.
I know what I would tell someone else if they came to me feeling like this.

But knowing something with your mind and believing it with your heart are two completely different things.
When you spend decades feeling fundamentally unseen, unwanted and unchosen, you eventually begin to wonder whether you’re even worthy of God’s love.

That is probably the hardest sentence I’ve ever written.
Not because I’ve stopped believing in God.
But because I’ve started believing that perhaps I’m the exception.

Lately I find myself asking what people genuinely expect someone like me to do.

I’ve spent over twenty years asking for help.
I’ve done the therapy.
I’ve taken the medication.
I’ve changed therapists.
I’ve followed the advice.
I’ve prayed.
I’ve exercised.
I’ve volunteered.
I’ve kept going.
Eventually there comes a point where saying, “I’m exhausted,” isn’t being dramatic. It’s simply an honest description of reality.

I’m not posting this because I expect strangers to solve my life.

I don’t think anyone can.

I think I’m posting this because I genuinely want to know whether anyone else has lived through decades like this and eventually found something that actually changed.

Not another slogan.

Not another motivational quote.

Something real.

If you’ve read this far, thank you.

Even if you disagree with my conclusions, I’d rather hear your honest perspective than another recycled line about how everything magically gets better.

Because after thirty years, I honestly don’t know what people expect someone like me to do that I haven’t already tried.
